My boyfriend and I came to Savannah for a day trip/weekend trip as a Quick weekend getaway. We traveled investigated down the river street and had a great time. We decided to patron one of the restaurants on River Street as they had good reviews from what I could see. And a lot of people we've had said they patron dockside seafood before and they would recommend. We were in for a rude awakening once we arrived. We sat on the patio as we were quested so that was amazing however the food..... We started off with mozzarella sticks and stuff mushrooms. The mozzarella sticks are good they were just heavily breaded for my taste in the stuffed mushrooms were so dried you would know that they were stuffed they weren't large portobellos but extremely small baby portobellos. The mushrooms had absolutely no flavor. It was fairly late and we normally don't eat too late so we decided to share and Entree we got to pick two and a side. He chose fish I got the fried scallops and we had french fries as the side. With Savannah being so close to the water I expected the fish and scallops to be fresh which you could tell they were , however ; it was the most bland unseasoned fried seafood I've ever had. We were not appeased or happy with our food- we immediately asked for a check after we received a check paid and tip however we will not be coming back to this restaurant. I think our hopes were so high that we were immediately let down. Our server was a sweetheart but just the overall status of the food which you come to the restaurant for ....was terrible. The only item we ordered was fried green tomatoes. They tasted nasty. There was no flavoring or any seasoning on it. It just seemed all they did was batter it up in breadcrumbs, fried them in oil and served them in an oily mess. Wow. So we searched on yelp for seafood places in the Savanah Area and search after search the over priced menus of different locations popped up. We took a chance on the reasonable price entrees at Dockside Seafood and boy we took an excellent chance. Perfect timing as we first walked-in there was only one large group of customers at 8:10 pm. Within 15 minutes of sitting down the restaurant filled up. Our waiter was friendly and told us about their special for $29.99. How could we go wrong - 1/2 snow crab legs, sausage, corn, 10 shrimp and potatoes. From the first bite to the last is was delicious. The atmosphere was right by riverside and we could actually see cargo boats and tugboats cruising up and down the Savanah river. There is both inside and outside patio seating in a very comfortable setting. Fresh seafood, cozy atmosphere and a waiter that entertained us throughout the night. The history of the building is truly amazing. Built in 1792 and the original load bearing wood beams are original. Nonetheless, the food was good but nothing overly special. Except for the crab chowder (MUST TRY). Could use some updates but maybe they're going for the historical look. Service was good with no complaints. Check this place out! read more

Had a delicious dinner outside riverside . Our server was friendly, helpful & truly enjoyable. I got the Low Country Boil. The husband had the same thing but with an added lb of crawdads (which wasn't on the menu but they happily accommodated us). Lord of Big tasty approved ! Food is amazing...owner was there (Rachel) and she made us feel like family. Ambiance was lovely and prices were exceptionally reasonable. This was our 1st dinner in Savanah and probably our weakest meal of the 4 days there; a compliment to the culinary delights of the city, not an indictment on Dockside. By the time we had checked into our hotel, wandered thru several plazas, visited the Colonial cemetery and navigated our way down the old steep and ancient stairway to River St. we were hangry. Dockside was the 1st place that we agreed upon that didn't look too crowded or we didn't feel underdressed in shorts and t-shirt. The punch drink I started with was very potent and started to take the edge off of walking 500 miles in the past few hours. We shared a fried green tomato app and then my wife ordered the crab legs and I went with the fried oysters and another drink. There were no issues with food or service, just no WOW factor. If I was visiting again, I might go in for a cocktail or appetizer as a respite from the day, but I would probably save my limited amount of tourist meals for other destinations. read more

Has a very beachy, laid back vibe. Beautiful decor. Low ceilings, so watch out tall people! :) They had all of the doors open, so there was a nice warm breeze. Super nice waiter. Delicious cocktails. We had the Pirate Punch which is heavy on the rum and sweetly (but not too sweet) pleasing to the palate. We got our food quite quickly. The shrimp and grits are a work of art! The oysters on the fried oyster sandwich are oh so fresh! The french fries are also very fresh, perfectly seasoned and thinly sliced (but not too thin). We felt no need to add salt or even ketchup. Enjoyed a afternoon lunch with my parents at Dockside seafood on River street . The restaurant is on the waterfront of Savannah . They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating has a great view of the waterfront and even a few tables inside share the same view . Goose was our server and she was very pleasant and welcoming . Made us feel right at home ! My mother ordered the special that was offered and I took Goose's recommendation of the blackened Mahi Mahi that was cooked perfectly to top my Caesar salad! My father and enjoyed jack Daniels on the rocks and were pleasantly surprised with a very solid pour ! All in all we enjoyed our lunch very much and will definitely return when in Savannah as well!!! read more

Don't go here. Long story short. Horrible and overpriced. They don't know how to cook or have fresh seafood apparently on the water. Now for the longer more detailed part: Shrimp and Grits: Terrible, frozen shrimp maybe 6-8 pieces. The grits were caked....idk what this is about. Tasted like frozen shrimp was boiled, than put with caked up grits that were microwaved. No seasoning or salt or anything. The dish was topped with what seemed like a stick of butter with a hint of garlic. Nothing special and for the price absolutely a rip off. The Savannah Salad (with grilled chicken): Absolutely a rip off and terrible again. The chicken was paired with nice pieces of hard chemical like blackened parts that I guess were chicken....and the salad was supposed to be spinach. Well, they put spinach on top and iceberg lettuce underneath it...wow. And the goat cheese, maybe a drip or too but for 20$, ya no. Absolutely no onions, tomato, or anything else either. Just half spinach and iceberg lettuce and some burnt pieces of chicken. Oh ya, the chicken tasted dry, no seasoning, and tasted like refrigerated chicken for days. Definitely not fresh. The drinks: the bartender couldn't make a cranberry vodka...wow the most basic drink ever. So I asked for a Long Island. He made some super watered down iced Long Island that mostly tasted like sprite. Little to no alcohol in it. Than, my wife tried one of their cocktails. Absolutely watery and supposed to have 2 shots of gin in it. Couldn't taste anything. No atmosphere to the place with some crappy pop music coming out of some bad speakers. Nothing interesting on the tv's either like you're out of touch if you have NCIS channel on at a bar TV. Maybe a sports game or college football??? We were seated quickly for lunch on a Tuesday - the place was about half full but with one big party. We sat waiting for a server for about 20 mins while the two bartenders did shots behind the bar. They must have done about 4-5 shots while we very obviously looked around for someone to serve us. When we finally got a server, she was very friendly and apologetic - said the person who was supposed to be our server had a big party and was overwhelmed. After that, she made an effort to get food to us quickly. My blackened shrimp was tasty, but the side salad was sub-par - lettuce, two big chunks of tomato, and some croutons. I was expecting some actual vegetables in there. My husband got the fish sticks. He said the texture was good- not greasy, but the flavor was bland. The ambiance was nothing special. In all our trips to Savannah, we've never been in here, but since we were "kid-less", the wife and I decided to give it a try for a Sunday lunch. Their grit cakes were touted as original. We only got the appetizer portion, which was plenty. The restaurant was empty, which should have been a sign. The shrimp was good, but small. The sauce was very good, but not thick enough. The ham was super thin, only about 3 pieces, and extremely salty. The grit cakes were an interesting idea, but had a horrible fried aftertaste. Decent-sized mostly-seafood restaurant along the Savannah River Walk area. Very little parking nearby, so plan on walking to it. Driving in front of it is difficult anyway on the rough cobblestone road. It's very dark inside; I guess they call it intimate. So could be a good date night location. The A/C provides a nice break from the summer heat when you've been walking around the area for a while. They had an outside misting system under their canopy, but it didn't do much since it was too high (so you never felt it when walking by) - B for effort! The popcorn shrimp appetizer was really good; lightly battered. The hush puppies that came with it were just average. Overall a nice, light lunch for about $10. I tried their coleslaw too. This meal was very disappointing. We ate at a lot of restaurant in Savannah and had nothing but amazing food until we went to Dockside. We did not even finish half our food. The shrimp was very rubbery and my husbands food was like a tray of soup. Fried pickles were okay but were dripping in grease. I really wished we had not waited for a table only to be disappointed.
