Now, typically, a jelly-like donut wouldn't be my sort of thing but I couldn't resist when I saw that they had Mango. Unfortunately, the cruel woman in front of me grabbed the last one! They have cereal donuts, maple bacon bars, pastries, iced and frosted, baked and poufed... It's glorious and you inhale weight by being there so time is precious... chop chop! Best Donuts in Eugene! Stopped here last night on a whim and so pleased that we did! The traditional yeast donut glazed is pretty much perfect...springy, sweet and well glazed. The apple fritter is one of the best I've had, seriously so so good! And the chocolate glazed Bavarian cream was delicious! Lots of cream! The cake donuts were meh but in their defense I've never had a good one. All donuts weren't even fresh so I can only imagine how dangerously delicious they'd be hot! read more

If you've lived and worked in Eugene long enough, you've probably experienced the unmitigated joy of showing up to work bleary-eyed, detecting slight hints of cinnamon and sugar from the doorway, and finding a box of Dizzy Dean's waiting by the coffee machine- early morning gift of some saintly coworker. Uncertain as to why this place gets such high marks. The donuts are average at best. Had a marionberry filled donut early this morning (when you'd expect donuts to be the freshest). The jam filing was good but the donut itself did not have much taste. Also had a maple frosted old fashioned which looked the part and had the right texture, but was lacking something in the taste buds department. Granted I have high donut expectations, but it wouldn't be too difficult to substantially improve the recipes and step up their game. Wouldn't come back here again. Forget those touristy specialty donut shops that had popped up in the last few months. They're neat and all, but when you really want a good, classic donut in Eugene, this is the place for sure. The people are always friendly there, and the donuts are great. Price is very fair and they do bakers' dozen, so you get an extra with every dozen or half dozen order. When I think of going to the donut store with my parents years and years ago, this is the kind of place I think of. Also, I just noticed on the box that they now deliver to anywhere in Eugene. I needed 2 dozen muffins to take to a meeting in Portland. I called in pretty late the night before. When I got there at 6:30am, the muffins were ready and waiting. And not day old, like some places try to pull. These were fresh out of the oven. They were a big hit and I was a hero for bringing in such a delightful treat. French Crullers !!! My wife and I have been searching for french crullers ever since we moved here. There just isn't anything like a french cruller. A groupon (or some other company's coupon thing) first brought me to Dizzy Dean's. For a $20 minimum purchase! As you can probably guess, I walked out with multiple boxes of donuts and had plenty of opportunity to sample their range of flavors. We even had a couple weeks worth of cake donuts to freeze. Dizzy Dean's probably has the best donuts in town. They're fresh, they offer a huge variety of choices, the cake donuts freeze well, and the service was friendly. But while they're the best, I would probably just give them three stars compared to Krispy Kreme or Indiana's Square Doughnuts. Since Eugene has neither, and we must make do with what we have, I'm giving Dizzy Dean's four stars. read more

Donuts were good. The counter service was understaffed and confusing. The tables and booths were not clean. Dried on gunk and it was also on the walls. We were looking for a place to celebrate National Donut Day and Dizzy Dean's was the spot! It was our first time there and...wow...delish!! When we walked in, there was a line and only a few donuts left in the case. One staff member was hustling to make sure we all were waited on in a timely manner, while the other staff member was baking hot donuts and bringing them out to sell. It was quite a production and they pulled it off with ease, kindness, and humor. Great staff! We had a glazed, chocolate cake with chocolate icing, and a maple bar. All were delightful! The service was great. They greeted us when we walked in. They were helpful in making recommendations of what to try. I always ask why they are know for. We tried a couple of donuts and had a cup of coffee. The donuts were good and made us crave more. They serve Boyd's coffee from Portland. They Had a big selection. We go here often. Good donuts, but service is always touch and go and the cleanliness is always questionable. Today the lady in front of us ordered and walked out with her donuts. She then came back in minutes later saying it was the wrong one and hadn't been touched. The counter person took it out of bag and placed back into the donut display to sell again! When we questioned why she would do that since it had walked out the building she got upset and told us because the lady told her it was not touched. She got angry stormed off to the back to throw away because we were disgusted. To us and anybody in their right mind it takes seconds to tamper with something. These donuts are better than Voodoo! I have to admit, that's not saying much though. The atmosphere is classic donut joint, and the staff are friendly and competent. I tried a buttermilk bar, a plain cake donut, and a raised-glazed donut from the hot case. The buttermilk bar had a decent crispy crust and was flavorful, but not as melt-in-your-mouth as I like my buttermilk bars to be. The cake donut had a nice baking powder tang to it, was mildly spiced and had a good texture, but lacked any sort of crisp on the outside, which is something I expect from a good cake donut. I think the strongest part of the experience was the raised-glazed donut that had good texture and flavor but was only mildly warm, despite being in the case that promised "hot donuts." All in all I would frequent them if they were in my neighborhood, but they're not good enough to be worth going out of my way for them. Competent, but not amazing. read more
