Staff couldn't be friendlier and the food is incredible. My wife and I go to London once a year and always make this a stop and I think we would come here weekly if we lived here. Fun atmosphere, great food, and everything comes out very fast too. An absolute must if visiting Shoreditch
Still really good. Like the breakfast better, but the all-day menu is fantastic too. Walked in Saturday at 1 PM
Not just "hyped", dishoom deserves the recognition! SERVICE Amazing service, easy to make reservations online, and easy to check in and get seated once your entire party has arrived. INSIDE Spacious, clean, and plenty of seating both upstairs and down. MENU For larger parties, they recommend their prefix menu which includes a various sampling of lots of delicious items. FOOD 10/10 I haven't eaten Indian food much, but was thoroughly impressed. From my mango lassi which was perfectly sweetened and tart to buttered buns, fried okra, black Dahl, garlic naan, and lamb skewers, everything was delicious. I esp loved the lamb skewers! We ordered a side of garlic naan with cheese which is basically a quesadilla and it was super cheesy and delicious as well. OVERALL Would def recommend Dishoom when visiting London. It'll definitely be a hit in your books!
Came by for breakfast the other day and it was a decent experience. Dishoom Shoreditch is conveniently located near a bus stop. Dining is available both indoors or outdoors in the covered seating area. Service was attentive by the staff. Started off with the chai and it was decent. I think their chai used to be more fragrant. Moved on to the wrestler's naan and it was gigantic featuring freshly baked naan cream cheese, ketchup, eggs, streaky bacon, along with sausages. The wrap was a touch hard to eat too! The restaurant was 20% full during a weekday breakfast. The restaurant was offering some type of loyalty card at checkout. Paying is done via QR code and credit card...which leads me to ask the question...what is the 12.5% service charge for then?!?
This was a difficult restaurant to rate... If you like good spicy food, I think it deserves at least four stars. But I would give the service one star. They told us it would be an approximately 30 minute wait for outdoor seating, and so we sat at the bar. When they finally came for us about 40 minutes later, they said they did not have a seat outside and it might be much longer. When we asked how much longer, she said she had to go check. And then she said it was a miracle, but an outdoor table opened up. It must've been a big miracle, cause there was at least another table outside open. My sister and I placed our orders, and the waiter said we had ordered a very small amount of food, and that we really should consider ordering more. She made specific suggestions on what we should add to our order. Since my sister and I had had a fairly substantial lunch and only wanted a lighter dinner, we thought we were good. And we told her that. But she still pushed harder about ordering more food. I really felt like they were trying to upsell us. But we left it as it was. The food came out... we had a starter of fried okra. It was marvelous! My sister had ordered chicken tikka masala, and I had the lamb chops. The lamb chops were incredibly tender, but I did not expect to find them as spicy as they were. However, I like spicy food so they were good. My sister is not a big fan of spicy food, and as she took a bite of her chicken, she almost spat it out. She cried out spicy spicy, and I knew we were in trouble. We flagged down our waiter and ordered some raita. Our waiter never came back to check on us. When she picked up the dishes at the end, she asked my sister if she did not like the chicken, and my sister told her it was too spicy. The waiter told her next time she should order something different. I was just not very happy with how we were treated there.
We came here on a Friday night after looking at yelp reviews. It was close to our hotel and there was a little bit of a wait. So we sat at the bar. My dining companion ordered a margarita that came straight up with a smoky paprika, sort of rim. I ordered the Mojito. They make their own Mojito mix and it was exceptional. Just a little hint of mint, but the excellent drink. Our bartender did not steer us wrong. We sat outside and ordered the okra appetizer, tikka masala, lamb chops and naan. Our wait staff said we were ordering a very small amount of food. I thought it should be enough, as we had a large lunch. She was kind of insistent, but maybe she was just trying to be helpful. The fried okra was amazing. It was like french fries but with okra. There's just a hint of spice very very crunchy and delicious. The rest of our meal came. I really should have asked about the spice level, but I did not. The menu didn't say my dish was spicy, but it was far too spicy for me. Since our wait staff did not come back to check on us there was not much I could do. However, I did flagged down another waiter and asked for some raita. This helped but I don't like the burn so I was pretty much done eating at that point. My sister's lamb chops were very tasty but overcooked for my preference. But we weren't asked how she wanted her lamb chops so there you go. I bet this is a phenomenal restaurant if you like a high level of heat. And maybe on a night when they weren't so busy and the wait staff stretched so thin. I will say I thought the cocktails were exceptional. And our bartender was great. I would really give it a 2.5 but there are no half star so I'm rounding up
Dishoom absolutely delivers on flavor. Every dish we tried had depth, heat, and that layered spice that lingers in the best way. The prawns were good, perfectly cooked with bold, punchy seasoning. My biggest recommendation: go big with your ordering. This isn't the kind of place where you stick to one or two plates. The magic really happens when you try a wide variety and share everything around the table. It's much better suited for larger groups than a small, quiet dinner for two. Service was solid, attentive without hovering, and the overall vibe is lively, energetic, and fun. It feels like a place meant for conversation and passing plates back and forth. Only minor knock: oddly enough, the toilets weren't as clean or as vibey as the rest of the restaurant, which felt a little off-brand given how polished everything else is. That said, 100% worth the visit. Go hungry, bring friends, and order more than you think you need.
Dishoom is always a go-to while in London. Everything is so flavorful, so fresh and so delicious. The restaurant has such a great energy and is always lively. The staff is friendly and attentive. I do recommend a reservation as I have never seen it not busy. This restaurant is also a great option if you have vegetarian/vegan folks in your group as the menu has something for everyone. My personal go-tos - chai tea, house black daal, and the chicken ruby. I highly recommend Dishoom if you are in London!
Came on a Friday night without a reservation, and only had to wait 20 min for a table for two. Loved the large NA drink menu. The matcha sour was great. Food was good. Menu was really large, which was nice, and the server was helpful in navigating it. Would recommend.
Dishoom had been on our list for weeks leading up to our recent trip. We were able to grab the last walk in table available just before 6pm. The food was mouth watering and oh, so delicious. The chicken ruby was the star of the show, though it did not have much chicken. I would suggest adding more chicken. They recommend that you order 3-4 things and split them amongst 2 people and that is what we did. The interior was very nice and the vibes were high. It was very crowded! We would go back tomorrow if we could! Looking forward to when it expands to the US.
I've really been looking forward to finally being able to give Dishoom a try! I walked-in around 6:30 on a Monday and was quoted around a 20 min wait time (solo dining this time) -- there's a nice bar area for customers to wait and order some drinks/snacks. Ultimately I managed to get seated just around the estimated 20 min :) Per my server's recommendation, I ordered the chicken ruby with garlic naan, and it was definitely a great choice. I loved the depth of the curry flavour, a wonderful balance of umami, creaminess and the (just-right level of) spicy-ness. The meat was so tender and juicy, and very well-infused with the rich curry flavour. The garlic naan, light and fluffy, was a lovely complement to the heavier flavours of the curry (but I wish it had more of a garlicky taste). I also ordered a mango and fennel lassi to drink, which was yummy. The mango flavour was crisp and fresh, and I liked that it wasn't too sweet nor was the texture too thick. I did not taste much of the fennel though. Portion sizes were not bad -- I think it's definitely a higher-end restaurant and the prices reflect that. I'm really looking forward to my next visit already to try some other fantastic dish off their fairly-extensive menu.
Came to Dishoom in Shoreditch with no reservation and expected a long wait, but it wasn't too bad. We hung out at the bar and the bartender recommended their special drink, which ended up being amazing. I ordered the murgh malai and the chicken ruby and both were so flavorful and comforting. The garlic naan was okay but it didn't have much of a garlic taste, so that was the only thing I wasn't obsessed with. Overall the experience was great. The vibe is lively but still cozy, and the service was friendly and attentive even with the crowd. I would definitely come back.
Since I was unable to post photos in my previous review nor was I able to edit my review to post photos, I'm posting my photos in an update.

We had no reservation, but the wait wasn't too bad: 45 minutes, considering. They served us House Chai Tea and sherry while we waited. These drink samples were amazing! Please try both, you won't regret it! The staff were all wonderful and friendly. The food was delicious! Here's what we ordered: Garlic Naan - really good Prawn Koliwada - salty, crispy morsels served with chutney. Chicken Ruby - silky and flavorful, the chicken was tender. House Black Daal - deeply flavored that pairs well with the Naan. Mango & Fennel Lassi - it's okay. I found the taste a little bland compared to lassis I've had in the past. Overall, a great experience. We will definitely come back. read more

Our first meal in London and we were pleasantly pleased! Service was great. We got seated immediately with no reservations at 5:40pm for a table for 2 on a Friday rainy night. Score! Love the spices! Fan of these dishes: * Prawn Koliwada - small appetizer * Chaap Pineapple Tikka - I actually thought it was chicken and marveled how buttery and tender it was! Lol and then found it was soy. * Garlic Naan - can't go wrong with these classic! * House Chai - unlimited refills! It was like drinking a dessert! * Pistachio Kulfi - creamy ice-cream on a stick, yum! * Basmati Rice Not a fan of these dishes: * Chilli Chicken - it was made up of more onions and sauce than chicken * Mutton Pepper Fry - curry sauce was good but didn't like the taste of the mutton (old lamb) * Chocolate Chai - tasted like hot chocolate * Spicy Lamb Chops - my bf liked it. I was like, eh. Total bills was 82.80 pounds, which is about $92, tip included and no tax! Not bad for a fancy full dinner for 2! read more
If there's one place you absolutely must eat at in London, it's Dishoom. Fair warning, if you go on a weeknight, you will wait in line. But trust me, it's worth it! While waiting in line, we were offered complimentary chai and mint tea. Fabulous by the way. We waited about 1.5 hours on a Saturday night. Once inside, you're transported to another world. The restaurant is beautiful inside and all the guests are very cozily sat together. Soak it all up. We ordered the vada pav, lamb curry sandwich, and the Ruby chicken (murgh makhani), along with rice and roomali roti. It was all so fabulous and delectable. The service was very quick and hospitable. Honestly, it was my favorite meal of my London trip and I'm glad it was my last. I think for the atmosphere and quality of food, this is very reasonably priced. Next time I'm in London, I'm definitely coming back. read more
Dishoom has got to be one of the best Indian restaurants I've visited! Inspired by the Irani cafes of Bombay, Dishoom today offers a modern, trendy atmosphere with amazingly friendly service, great drinks, and if you come late, long waits! That being said, as we waited, we were entertained the entire time by the bartender, and after ordering, the food came out lickety-split! The waitress started out by bringing us three chutneys that went well with every dish, though I was partial to the refreshing green cilantro-mint chutney. The Shakarkandi Chaat was a special dish they were offering for Diwali, and this flavorful mixture of fried sweet potato chunks topped with shredded beets, radish, carrots, along with yogurt and tamarind was an explosion of flavors and mouthfeels--it was sweet, tangy, savory, crunchy, soft, and creamy, all at the same time! The Gunpowder Potatoes were simple potatoes grilled, broken apart, and tossed with seeds and green herbs, but they had an amazing flavor and the heat was toned down nicely with the yogurt sauce that came on the side. The "Bowl of Greens" was an excellent vegetarian side dish of grilled broccoli, kale, and green beans, tossed with chili and lime--nothing crazy, but very tasty. But my favorite dishes had to be the signature Black House Daal, a deep, creamy, rich stew of lentils cooked for over 24 hours; as well as the Paneer Pineapple Tikka, which were marinated and grilled paneer slices served alongside grilled pineapple slices for a sweet and tangy twist! On the side, we also ordered the very thin Roomali Roti and the Garlic Naan to go with the dishes, and every last bite was flavorful and delicious! On top of the amazing food, great atmosphere, and friendly service, the prices here were just unbelievable for the quality of food you get--just come early to avoid the wait! read more

Was told it was an hour wait to dine and it was well worth it. Served warm chai and mint tea while we waited. Charismatic bartender made me "the best margarita" ive ever had after I explained my tequila deprivation whilst traveling europe. Once seated our waitress came in hot- prompting us to simply reply "yes" to every dish suggested. Family style is the way to go, and I wish we were a family of 20 to be frank. Booked a reso for another night this week to ensure the smell of dashoom on my cheap leather jacket could be renewed before departing london. Yummy stuff deshoom, see you soon read more

Due to all the hype around this spot, my family and I decided to try it last weekend on our trip to London. Our server was extremely helpful and ran us through the popular items and his personal favorites on the menu. We ordered the chicken tikka, black Dahl, prawn curry, gunpowder potatoes, lamb kebab, and the cucumber salad. The food was more than satisfactory and everyone was happy with what we ordered but it didn't have the particular authenticity that I was looking for. However, Dishoom does seem to advertise itself as a more modern/fusion take on Indian cuisine, and I believe they do a phenomenal job at reinterpreting traditional flavors in a fresh new form. read more
Sometimes you dont have to say much. I've heard London has great Indian food. I was told that its hard to find a bad spot. My 4th day here and this was the first place I decided to try. I ordered the Pau Bhaji. As a general rule, I make my meals around a meat dish, but this was hands down the best vegetarian dish I've ever had. Service was excellent. The 3 sauces that came with the dish were amazing and allowed to slightly adjust the flavor( don't get me wrong the flavor didn't need adjusting at all). Dishoom has set the bar really high for the rest of my stay. read more
Dishoom was quite the experience for a newcomer to London. The Indian and irali inspired cuisine was delicious. However, be warned, this restaurant has a longggg wait. It was nice that they offered everyone waiting on line some shandy and chai to hold you over. The food is family style or shared entrees. Our party got a few but our favorite was definitely the ruby curry. The portions were generally big as well. The garlic nana was flavorful and the chutneys were a very good addition to your dish. I would definitely recommend! read more

Yum! So glad to have gotten this recommendation from a foodie in London. I really liked knowing they give a meal to someone in need for each meal purchased. Also really easy to pick vegetarian options from the menu. I tried the black daal and vegetarian samosas. Both were delish but too much food for one person. read more
A religious experience. A meal that almost brought me to tears. I ended up flying back to the US with their cookbook, a set of spices, a tote bag, and their "incense." Do not skip the Black Daal or the House Chaat. An unforgettable meal. read more

I have never seen a restaurant go through so much detail on food intolerances.-even on spices/onion/garlic/ egg vs dairy for food allergies. It's incredible. I forgot to ask if the nuts were peanuts, so that's on me, but the food was delicious. We got very lucky with our walk in (no reservations for parties under 6) because there was a huge line out the door on a Thursday by the time we left. They have vegan gluten free desserts, delicious mocktauls and rose cardamom lassi if you're not vegan. Food was excellent. My son ordered the lamb curry. It was very spicy but he couldn't stop eating it. He loved it. We over ordered. Everything was delicious. read more

Nice Dishoom branch although a bit loud. Food is good as usual at Dishoom and I shared a few many dishes, starting with the Dishoom House Chat while having drink and then the Murgh Malai chicken with some Gundpowder potatoes, the chicken Biryiani, and the Shoreditch special Lamb Raan which was the best dish. read more

Really good authentic Indian food in London! The service was excellent and I really liked the ambiance. We left full and plates empty. Also they accept walk-ins. We were able to get a table almost right away. read more
The best food I had in London, period. While on holiday in London, I did extensive research about the restaurants I HAD to try. DISHOOM ended up being 1st on my list. Iraní Cafes were disappearing and they created this gem. I visited the Shoreditch location. Upon arrival, more likely than not ... there will be a wait. They don't take reservations after 6pm for groups of less than 6. Full disclosure: ITS WORTH THE WAIT. They offer complimentary shots and chai tea while you wait on line. As the line progresses, they'll lead you to a bar area where you can order an appetizer and drinks while you wait. In my case, we waited just under one hour before we were seated. This ended up being less time than they had anticipated. We were led to a downstairs dining room. Busy, crowded and loud. Groups of friends, families, people on dates... a very diverse crowd. Very vibrant atmosphere. Our waitress Naomi was a dear. First thing, she walked us through the menu and explained how everything worked. There is a lot on the menu, including vegan and vegetarian options. For our meal, we shared the House Black Daal, the chicken tikka, the jackfruit biryani, vegetable and lamb samosas and the prawns. Food didn't take more than 15 minutes and came out HOT. Mostly everything was a big enough portion we could share in between 2. The Black DAAL was SPECTACULAR. SO DELICIOUS. Think Lentils in a creamy sauce, with a tomato base, tons of flavor and herbs. The Jackfruit biryani was also AMAZING. Jackfruit is well known as a good pork replacement. I promise you, you won't be able to tell the difference between Dishoom's juicy jackfruit and savory pork chunks. It was AMAZING. I would absolutely recommend both of these dishes. Everything we tried was super yummy. For drinks, I had the Cobana Colada which was a type of pina colada. Very light and fruity. Great as a dessert drink. I'll honestly be dreaming about this food for a while. This was the best food I've tried in a while, both in Europe and USA. If you're visiting London, DISHOOM is a MUST TRY. read more

Oh my god oh my god oh my god. We loved this place. Like so so much. We actually tried to get in on a Friday night and there was no chance at all that we were going to get in. Maybe frustrating, but I'll take that as a sign that this food is worth waiting for. Eventually got in for dinner on an off-peak day and time and holy cow, y'all, it was worth the wait. We ordered a variety of plates, and went all in for one of the sauces. I recommend sticking with their "staples" and venturing off afterward. The food arrives on the fly, so the nice thing is you can try something and still continue to explore the menu. Our server was friendly and helpful. She gave us a rundown of how the menu worked and made some recommendations, all of which were great. We felt that she was attentive without being pushy or overly involved, which was much appreciated too. Long story short, get here, it's worth it. read more

Long review ahead! So let's talk about Dishoom. But first a disclaimer - I'm an absolute novice at this cuisine. This place showed up on many must try lists accompanied with warnings of often very long queues. We basically couldn't get a reservation after 5:45 but the website cheerfully announced that walk-ins were welcome. Given the particularly inclement weather that night the two of us thought we just might catch a break. I guess Londoners, like New Yorkers, are hard core when it comes to trendy food. There was a decent line the length of their covered walk to the front door - maybe about 10-15 people. There is a person to check you in at the head of the line who cheerfully estimated 55 minutes (!). Thankfully the line moved quickly (probably since they were mostly in bigger groups). A few more points about the service even before stepping inside. There was a gentleman walking down the line serving small cups with warm chai or alchy drink - which the gals in front took the last of but he was happy to get for us except by then we reached the front of the line anyway. Second, there's a gap between the covered walk and the actual entrance - because the rain resumed and was starting to fall between the gap (less than a foot), he held the door open and held up an umbrella while we entered. Wow. Needless to say the service inside was just as gracious and warm. Once inside, we were handed a beeper for part 2 of the wait but this time we could settle in at the bar. Started with a Bollybellini for her and a Botanist gin and tonic for me. Bellini tasted delicious - slightly fruity and light. The Botanist is hard to find so I was glad they had it. It was served with a separate mini bottle of tonic water - fancy. Paid for it using the beeper number so they could link it to the final bill - smart. After what really felt quick due to everything to see and watching the skillful bartenders craft the drinks, we got buzzed and was taken to our table which was downstairs. We got seated at a small two seater by a column in a somewhat crowded area. There was an open kitchen area down there too. The service was so friendly and helpful with suggestions and answers to our many questions. We ordered the lamb samosa and chili chicken for apps and for our mains, the chicken berry Britannia and prawn Pathia. We ended up ordering a side of roomali roti (but got what I think was just plain naan) which was unnecessary. The server brought out a trio of chutneys which I think they also sell bottled. The samosa was freshly made and was delightful dumpling. The chili chicken, a play on a Chinese-inspired flavors, was just ok - kind of dry and not particularly memorable. The prawns were so flavorful and the roomali roti it came with - a thin but stretchy wrap - was so good. It was like a flour tortilla but lighter. And lastly, the Biryani (my wife's first time trying) was out of this world amazing! It was a savory pot full of basmati rice, cranberries, and chicken. All washed down with some Kingfisher beer and their house IPA - it was more than just a spectacular meal, it was an experience. read more

Dishoom is just as good as everyone says and it's not overhyped (I was a skeptic)! The decor is vibrant and the restaurant has a nice ambiance. I went to the shoreditch location and they have outdoor and indoor dining. I was sitting in the outdoor area which was heated and incredibly cozy. Our servers were incredibly attentive - they filled our waters (but not too much), checked in on us, and brought us our food pretty quickly. I ordered the roomali roti, the daal, and the chili chicken. For drinks, I tried the Indian Gimlet and the Espresso Martini. I typically wouldn't have ordered the daal because it's something I could easily make at home but the daal was absolutely phenomenal. It was so flavorful and creamy but not too heavy. The roomali roti is soft and fluffy - perfect with the daal. In terms of my drinks, they both were really good. The espresso martini has chili in it, which added a nice flavorful kick to it. This is some of the best Indian food that I've had and I've been to India. I'm going to dream about this place for a while and hope to be back!! read more
Words cannot express how much I loved this place. The chicken ruby practically melted in my mouth and the cheese naan was unlike anything I've had before. The spices on the okra fries were cooked to perfection. Also the service was amazing- our server allowed us to try the homemade chai before deciding if we wanted to get it. Definitely go and make a reservation read more

For our last night of vacation in London, my daughter insisted on taking us to Dishoom. She's been working in London for 3 months and has taken everyone who's visited her to the Shoreditch location, and we all agree it's great. Firstly, the wonderful hosts were highly accomodating. Due to Uber difficulties, we were an hour late for our reservation. We kept in phone contact with them and when we arrived, they honored our reservation and we were able to circumvent a considerable line. It seems as though our daughter knew the menu inside out, and ordered so much I couldn't keep track of it all for my review! However, here's some highlights: COCKTAILS: Espresso martini was great, and had a bit of kick owing to the use of chili liquer(!) and black walnut bitters. Also tried the Permit Room Old-Fashioned..Woodford Reserve with bay leaf and green tea reduction, muddled and aged 3 months in a small, serving size bottle known as a "peg" Poured over ice, this was unmistakably an old-fashioned, yet mellow..highly recommend! SMALL PLATES (we tried 4): vegetable samosas were rich and warm, and coriander/mint chutney was provided for dipping, a nice touch. Okra fries made me feel I was back in the southern USA . And the Dishoom House Chaat was a new epicurean experience for me...Fried sweet potatoes covered in yogurt, pomegranate, beetroot, radish, and carrots, and drizzled with tamarind and chutney...very delicious and a generous serving size! Chilli Chicken..Indo-Chinese in nature, this is a nice sized plate of chicken chunks crisped in a soy, garlic, ginger and chilli mixture...spicy and delicious! FROM THE GRILL: We had the chicken tikka, prepared differently than I've had in the States, but VERY good...also had the spicy lamb chops. These were my favorite thing we ordered...they are large, juicy and delicious as they are marinated in garlic, lime juice, ginger and spices...highly recommend this one! SIDES: you must of course try the garlic naan to push your food around and enjoy. Basmati rice was perfectly moist and sweet. Also had the "chilli butter-bhutta...this is the Indian version of what is served as Mexican street corn in the States...corn on the cob, charcoal grilled, buttered, then finished with chili, salt and lime. DESSERT: I had another new experience with the "Gulkhand Mess". This is Dishoom's Indian variation on the quintessential British dessert Eton Mess. Fresh strawberries thrown into a mixture of rose syrup, cream and meringue. Very sweet, yet sublimely refreshing. During the course of the meal, our server was very professional, prompt and attentive. Twice, the gracious manager on duty stopped by to check on us. The atmosphere of Dishoom was warm and inviting, yet with a trendy edge. All in all, a very pleasurable dining experience to top off our vacation! read more

One of the top recommended spots for our trip to London, Dishoom was a must try and it's fair to say the name lives up to the hype. While I didn't take many photos, because I was feverishly filling my face with rice, curry, and some of the best garlic naan I've ever tried; I can confidently recommend Dishoom for their delicious food, refreshing cocktails, meticulous service & welcoming ambience. read more

Yes, the hype is warranted. I made a reservation a month in advance, and this place still had a line outside when I showed up at 5 pm. This location has a beautiful setting with covered outdoor seating. Old books on South Asia and the Middle East line the shelves, and the plants give the vibe of sitting in a garden. The food was excellent. I have traveled throughout South Asia, so I was familiar with the dishes, and I will have to say I really like this British twist. Not oily at all, with many fresh vegetable side dishes to choose from. The chaat was my favorite (tangy, sweet and savory), but the daal (comforting with just enough spice) was a close runner up. The garlic naan was a bit too thin for my liking, and we much preferred eating the meal with rice. Definitely add to your London must-go list. read more
