Hands down the best Indian meal I have ever had. In London for a wedding and friends strongly suggested we go to Chutney Mary's. Wow. You need reservations so plan in advance. It is also expensive (5 people with one round of drinks + service was over GBP 400. But HANDS DOWN WORTH IT. We actually may go back for lunch later this week Plates we would recommend - the artichoke hearts were amazing, the chili lobster, the curry shrimp and the butter chicken. I order butter chicken / tikka masala everytime I have Indian food just to compare and this was the best I have ever had. Highly Recommend.

When you find yourself in London, and are searching for a dining experience, make a reservation at Chutney Mary. The ambiance of the bar area, through to the dining room is one of sophisticated elegance. Our server Sunit is a true professional, and made us feel at home, treated us like VIPs. Of course, we started with cocktails. For my wife, a gin martini, beers for my son and me. The main courses were the star of the show. Our son enjoyed the Butter Chicken, my wife had Afghani Chicken Tikka, and I went with the Lobster, all outstanding. We shared Dal, amazing, and another chicken dish, for which the names escapes me. We finished with a fantastic chocolate dessert. Chutney Mary is definitely a must do when you find yourself in London next!

If I had the guest list and something to celebrate, this would be the spot.

This restaurant is peaceful and beautifully designed. I was warmly greeted and seated with an ideal view of St. James. I enjoyed a delicious Aviation cocktail and their venison samosas, which were equally delightful. I didn't dine in the main restaurant, but sat in their Pukka Bar. Before leaving, I explored a bit and captured a few photos to share.

The artichoke hearts and the samosas were the most interesting dishes of the night. There is a dress code per their site but people seemed to be dressed casually as well.

What an absolutely wonderful experience, this is on my top three list of restaurants in London. China Tang being number one and number three still to be decided...! We had the chefs menu, I'm always a bit hesitant to tasting menus, because you are served so much food, but this was absolutely perfect. The amount of food, the mixture of flavors and texture, the speed with what they where brought out was everything you could wish for. We chose the wine pairing and I definitely recommend that as well. Arrived a little early and enjoyed the new spice old fashion and the Lychee rose martini in the bar upstairs. Such a beautiful space, a great start to what would end up being a wonderful evening. The restaurant was very busy but the noise level was still good, the service was lovely thru out the entire night. I got nothing but admiration for how this restaurant is run, for the fabulous dishes the chef prepared and the ambiance in general, do not miss this gem when in London!

Brilliant presentation with every plate, including the excellent "Indian fish and chips" starter.

Absolutely brilliant food, very attentive service, and a very kind offer to transfer reservations when their sister restaurant Veeraswamy (where we originally were to have been) was unfortunately and unavoidably closed. Of exceptional value was the presentation of the starter dishes, all done beautifully and brilliantly in a luxurious setting. Very quick service which was deeply appreciated as we had a rapid meal prior to a theatre appointment.

Hands down the best Indian food I have ever had. The level of flavor in their sauces is incredible. They taste like they took days to prepare. We were with a group of 7 and every single person was impressed with their meal. The wine list was great with plenty of options. The ambiance is beautiful and inviting. Would definitely recommend.

I got the spicy butter chicken, rice, and paratha. They had an order minimum of 60 a person. For 60 I expected a bit more but portions were tiny and it certainly was not spicy. That said the chicken itself was very creamy, but the paratha was a miss. Nice bathroom; a bit of an older crowd.

From the cozy, elegant ambiance to the delicious food and impeccable service, Chutney Mary is certainly worth all the hype. Each dish was unique and tasty and the cocktails were creative and fun to explore. We will definitely be back!

I had the Andhra Lobster Chilli Fry and the Indo Chinese Bhel Salad to start, absolutely delicious! Then I had the lamb chops, which were divine alongwith the most sublime saag paneer.I was dining alone and I was made so welcome, which really made my day. The Virgin Tom Collins are divine too.Thank you Chutney Mary and a very happy 35th Birthday to you.

Chutney Mary was recommended to us by one of our good friends, and she did not steer us wrong! Chutney Mary was one of my favorite meals in London, and I would go as far as saying one of the best dine-in experiences for Indian food. Can't say that I've even had fine dining at an Indian restaurant, so Chutney Mary set the standard high. The customer service wasn't that great though. Servers were hospitable, sure, but not attentive at all. The food, however, exceeded my expectations and was downright fantastic. We ordered everything as family style, so that we could share. We ordered two appetizers of crispy fried chicken and vegetable samosas, 2 entrees of shrimp curry and butter kitchen, a couple of orders of naan, side of basmati rice, and a side of saag with paneer. All excellent. Only thing that I thought was average was the sticky toffee pudding. Chutney Mary put their spin on it with Indian flavors, but I would've much rather preferred an original version. Also the sauce was really thin and not thick and syrupy how I like it.

Came to this place after so much hype and recommendation. Frankly don't know why. Had way better Indian cuisine with more authenticity. Our waiter was not very engaging. Almost like he didn't want to tend us. We order several appetizers. The prawns were very good. The vegetable simosas were a let down. As dinner portions were ordered the highly tauted Butter Chicken - lacked depth. The Lamb and the Drunken Chicken. They all had an incredible amount of complex flavors without the refined delivery to our palates. We were expecting a culinary experience but they came up short.

For me, Gymkhana absolutely lived up to the hype. Although they offer a set lunch menu, I went à la carte to try exactly what I wanted: Chicken Butter Masala, an Indian Onion & Green Chilli Salad, and Garlic Naan (which I appreciated they offer in single pieces). For drinks, I started with their signature Masala Margarita, paired the meal with a Salty Masala Lassi, and finished with a Masala Chai. It was more food than I usually eat, but it was too good not to finish. Every dish was outstanding--bold, layered flavors with distinct character. It really highlighted how exceptional Indian cuisine can be. The drinks had creative twists and complemented the food beautifully. Service was warm, attentive, and efficient without ever feeling formal or rushed. I could tell the staff would gladly accommodate special requests if needed. It was all very deserving of its two Michelin stars. Total bill: GBP 94 including drinks, service, etc. One tip for first-time visitors: go easy on the rice and bread. The food was exceptional -- aroma, flavors, spice levels, portions; everything was perfect. While visiting London, a local friend invited me to Dishoom, knowing how much I love Indian cuisine. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon around 5PM, and the place was already packed. They don't take reservations for dinner unless you're a large group, but trust me, the wait is worth it. They have a fantastic bar where you can grab drinks while you wait for a table (they give you buzzers). I tried the Negroni and another tequila-based cocktail (sadly I can't remember the name), and both were phenomenal. Shared plates are definitely the way to go at Dishoom. We ordered the gunpowder potatoes (incredible), an appetizer with potatoes and pineapple (not my favorite; the pineapple threw me off), monkfish curry (amazing), and chicken curry. It was a lot of food for just two of us, but I couldn't stop eating. I seriously wanted to bottle up that sauce! The service was surprisingly impeccable, especially considering how busy they were. We ended up spending about £110 for an incredible dinner, and we nearly couldn't finish everything. Lastly, the ambiance! Inspired by Iranian cafes in India, the atmosphere at Dishoom is eclectic. I loved the dim lighting, unique decor, and the lively pace of the restaurant. Just go!

The restaurant's wall was decorated with various historical photographs, and right above our table was a photo of Vancouver, titled "Well-dressed Sikhs walking along the street in Vancouver, Canada c. 1908." Although over 100 years ago, I immediately recognized the location -- the corner of Granville and Hastings. How coincidental is that, to be thousands of miles away from home in a different continent, and to come across a photograph of the very street corner I cross multiple times a week! I don't recall what my husband had (a chicken dish), but I had Acharri Murgha ("chicken curry cooked in a traditional pickling spice mix") and it was delicious! Both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal -- it was a taste of home! I also had a couple of glasses of wine, but each glass was 250ml, so I was pretty tipsy. In the washroom, a woman, another tourist, started conversing with me, but she only spoke French, and despite being drunk and rarely speaking French, I was able to have a semi-coherent conversation (she was also a bit tipsy). I had a drunken conversation in French inside an Indian restaurant in England!
