I've waited 3 years to get back to a Dishoom. I've dreamt about it. The smell, the flavors, the atmosphere! All of it. You won't be disappointed! I even took home the spices and chai as merchandise so I can try and recreate this at home with their cookbook. I love it so much! One of my favorite dining experiences in London because of the association with restaurants in Bombay, where I grew up. Visited with extended family and we had a lovely time trying various drinks - both alcoholic (like Colaba Colada) and non-alcoholic (like Kala Khatta Sharbat), plus an assortment of snacks and entrées I grew up on - like pav bhaji and murgh malai. Dishoom came highly recommended by other travels and friends as a must try Indian restaurant while visiting the UK. There are multiple locations, but this one by the Coal Drops Yard was the closest one to where we were staying. We made reservations in advanced and dodged the long wait. The folks who came right before us without reservations were told they had to wait 60-75 minutes. There are some nights where walk-ins are even turned away because they're so busy. The interior was very dimlit and intimate. Every table was full the whole time we were there. We were table to the bottom level. Service was really slow. Not because staff was inefficient but it seems like each wait staff had to manage many tables. Everything was slow from getting the menu, to waiting to order, to getting the food, and waiving down for the bill. My boyfriend and I shared the Dishoom Chicken Tikka (£14.70), House Black Daal (£11.50), Grilled Greens (£7.50), and a Garlic Naan (£5.40). It's important to note that this chicken tikka is a dry rub version and not the curry masala version you typically think of. The chicken was moist and well flavored but in some spots there was more seasoning than others so it seems inconsistent. The house black daal that came highly recommended is a slow cooked lentils cooked for over 24 hours, which makes it too mushy for my liking from a textural perspective. It was also really spicy. The grilled greens during our visit was split peas and broccolini. They were simple but a nice relief to the rest of the meal. Their version of the garlic naan was soft and bready, not flakey compared to some other versions I had. It could have used more garlic for my liking. My boyfriend really enjoyed this meal and considered potentially the best Indian restaurant he has experienced. I live in an area with a large Indian population and I have been to many Indian restaurants so I can't say I was as impressed. Also the long wait between things was a turn off. This place is an experience! The food will remind you of the taste from India. Their speciality is the bun maska Pao with chai - yummy! The prawns and biryani were superb too! If you are a loyal customer and have a key, on week days, you can roll a die and get the meal for free if you get a six. On our last night in London, we were lucky to eat here despite not having a reservation. We walked in and waited about an hour for a table for 6 people. The place was really noisy so it was a bit hard for us to hear but they did their best to seat us in a less noisy place. There was some confusion on number of people as we had updated it to 6 from 5 but they first gave us a table for 5 instead of 6. Because it was loud we had some communication issues with our waiter re: a couple of orders, but he quickly and calmly fixed it. He was even so nice as to mark up a menu to make sure I would avoid ordering anything with bell peppers, since I don't eat them. Everyone was just so pleasant and attentive and catered to our situation with our 80 year old aunts and preferences. Second time here - pretty much a must-go every time I'm in London. As soon as you walk in, you walk into a warm haze of incense smell. There's a very rich smell of cardamom, cinnamon, chai, and various other spices. It was suggested by a hotel employee that if I wanted Indian food, to come to Dishoom, and while I'm dining at a different location, I imagine the experience is every bit wonderful in any establishment. Everything about this establishment is fantastic. Food was phenomenal, spices were amazing, and the heat level was perfect--enough to be a tad hot, but not so much I couldn't eat it. Came on a Friday night and waited 47mins before getting a table. The staff was nice and handed out chai tea and lemonade soda drinks for those standing in line. We ordered the okra fries, fish amritsari, chicken ruby, black dal, and garlic naan for 2 people. For drinks, we got the mango lassi and hot oat chai. The hot oat chai is bottomless refills! We were able to finish the food but were very full. I normally don't like okra or chai but they were pretty good. The black dal just tasted like a bean curry and was not my favorite. The naan was also more expensive than what I'm used to. Overall the food was good but I wasn't as ecstatic about it as everyone hypes it up to be. Interior and ambiance were amazing. I was in London for work this week and got a glowing recommendation from friends that Dishoom was a must-try. With several locations across the city, I was lucky to find one within walking distance of my stay in King's Cross. The Experience: Definitely try to get a reservation if you can. I went with a coworker, and though there was a wait, we got lucky with just 30 minutes. The wait was made better by grabbing a drink at the bar downstairs before being seated upstairs. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, with a warm, nostalgic Bombay café vibe. The Food: Our server (who was also great attentive and super helpful) recommended ordering family style, which was the right call. We went all in and ordered: * Cheesy Naan * Garlic Naan * Lamb Samosas * Okra Fries * Lamb Chop * Chicken Ruby * Nalli Biryani * A side of rice The dishes arrived in a well-paced flow, starting with the apps and followed by the mains. Every single dish was bursting with flavor. The okra fries and lamb samosas stood out among the starters, while the cheesy naan and lamb chop were hands-down my favorites from the mains. If I were to return (which I absolutely will), I'd reorder those four without hesitation. Final Verdict: This was easily the best Indian meal of my life. The balance of bold spices, perfectly cooked and tender meats, and flavorful sides made for an unforgettable dining experience. Tried to come here last year when I was in London but they were closed for their Xmas party. Managed to dine here this year. Chose the Kings Cross location as I thought it would be the quietest. The restaurant is in the Coal Drop Yards, which was dead on Friday night, however Dishoom was full and on a 50min wait for a party of 2, we took first available which included the lounge, so of course we got the lounge - which is low seating, not the best environment to eat in, but we had plenty of space around us and weren't crowded by other diners. We even had to queue to wait for the bar, but were called for our table before our drinks even arrived. We probably only waited less than 20mins for the table. Our server was really nice, went over the menu. We went with the chilli chicken to start on her recommendation, which was good, very spicy - would have preferred samosas however. Poppadoms weren't your traditional poppadoms, but mini puffs - needed more chutney for them. For mains we started the Lamp Chops and Chicken Ruby with a roti. I thought the ruby would have come with rice but didn't, so had to order plain rice for £4.50! - a little excessive. The food was all ready good, my husband claimed it as the best Indian food he'd had. It was all very flavourful. Just small portions and expensive. Service was good. Everyone had a role and knew what they were doing. I think this place would be better for a bigger party so you can try more of the menu. We were full after our meal. Dishoom is located in the Kings Cross area of London, across from the Coal Drops Yard shopping center. For tourists who've arrived via EuroStar, the restaurant is a 4-5 minute walk from the Kings Cross Train Station. My wife and I had a two night layover in London from our recent trip to Europe. One of my best friends told me I HAD to stop at Dishoom for dinner. They're all over social media and UK travel blogs as well. People rave about this place. So I made a reservation a few months out and thought, lets see how good Dishoom truly is. Is the hype real...? If I only knew what was in store... We arrived at around 4:30pm for a very early dinner (we had a pub crawl tour at 7pm and wanted enough time to enjoy our meal and properly navigate the Tube). We were promptly sat in their upstairs area. Dishoom was MOBBED even at 4:30pm... not an empty table in sight!!! The ambiance here is fascinating!! You feel like you're in an upscale restaurant in 1920's or 1930's British India. The interior design is so creative with patterned tiles, dark wooded furniture with blue cushions, high ceilings, and dark green lanterns. The walls are pavement and have giant clocks attached. It's uniqueness is like nothing I've ever seen, an absolute EXPERIENCE like none other. We were greeted by our server and decided to get a medley of British Indian dishes. Indian food in the UK is a hair different than here in the US, but luckily we had done our homework before to better understand what we should order. For drinks my wife got some tea (best tea she's ever had) and I had a local kombucha I loved. As an appetizer my wife and I went with some vegetable samosas. They arrived quickly and we gobbled them up. Perfectly crispy on the outside but soft and delectable on the inside. And this was barely the beginning... For our main course we ordered some house black daal, Tandoori lamb chops, chicken ruby, raita, two orders of garlic naan, basmati rice, and grilled greens (for health right? lol). Everything arrived quickly, and we enjoyed what is arguably the best meal of our lives. I don't even know where to begin. I typically am a fast eater but I took the smallest bites possible on each item so I could properly savor it. The FLAVOR, "brightness," and creativity, were out-of-this-world!!! The black daal was creamy, spicy, and heart warming. Maybe the most underrated dish of them all! The tandoori lamb chops... WOW. Perfectly grilled with a little char and masala/ lime flavoring. The chicken ruby? I hadn't heard of this dish until we had done our research, but it's BETTER than Tikka Masala. The makhani sauce is silky, with a creaminess I've never experienced before. The amount of spices in this dish are too many to count! I'm salivating and crying thinking of each item as I'm writing this up! Dishoom has the best raita in the game. Period!! I typically don't love raita, but something about Dishoom's was so tasty. It complimented everything else perfectly! And their naan... don't even get me started. We got two orders and probably could've done three to be honest! Perfectly crispy (not too little or too much) and garlicky. Additionally, Dishoom's rice and greens were fantastic! They balanced the spiciness and "heaviness" of the meal perfectly! We were both incredibly sad when the meal was over. We were at a loss for words. There are no proper words to describe a place like this. Everything just went together perfectly. Also, there was no "weighed down" feeling from their food you would expect. They somehow made the best food imaginable that isn't greasy or overly heavy! When we left there was already a line around the block for those who had no reservation. Mind you this was at like 5:45pm! The hype for Dishoom is completely justified. In fact, one could argue they're actually UNDERRATED! It's a super cool building with high ceilings and beautifully decorated in a hip sort of art-deco kind of way. The food here just tastes amazing. The chole had the perfect amount of spice, tang, and flavor. The halwa ... just the right amount of sweetness. Such a good combo. Dishoom was another restaurant that many people highly recommended visiting in London, especially as it is one of the places representing the UK's vibrant Indian cuisine. I had some spare time during lunch to visit this place so I didn't have a reservation booked, but I highly recommend making one if you don't want to wait for a while. It took me around 30 minutes to get into the restaurant for bar seating as a result but I think that it was still worth it. The waiters gave free small cups of chai to people waiting in line, so that made it a bit more bearable too. For the food, I decided to get the Chocolate Chai, Gunpowder Potatoes, House Black Daal, and the Chicken Ruby. The Chai here was top-tier, with an authentic flavor that went well with the chocolate added to it. The black daal lived up to the hype, as the creaminess and the striking flavor of it definitely solidifies it as an essential dish here. The gunpowder potatoes and chicken ruby were excellent as well, with tons of spices added to it for amazing flavors. The curry in the dish pairs very nicely with the potatoes too. It was lovely. Service was excellent, we were well attended to and given great guidance. The food was delicious. Visited Dishoom at Kings Cross this week after hearing so much about it. There is no debating that the interior and decor is quite impressive. There is an engaging attention to detail and accessory decorations in addition to the building structure and layout of the restaurant. Overall ambiance drives my rating to a 4. For those of us very experienced with Indian cuisine we enjoyed the meal but can't say we were wowed by the food. It is notably all very fresh and nicely cooked (eg the chicken tikka was grilled perfectly). The aloo paneer was outstanding. We had lunch for four near the kitchen. It was fun to watch the dishes come out of the kitchen and our server was very attentive. We started with Papadums and sauces, but sadly they were not gluten free. They were different than I have seen before - puffy and not the crispy lentil flour type. The consensus was that they were just OK. some in our party ordered the samosas and they looked overcooked and were reported to be dry. The menu has several gluten free options, though fewer than I am used to at Indian restaurants. Several unique dishes were on the menu. The black lentils were very good as was the Dishoom Chicken Tiki made with vinegar instead of yogurt. I also had the gunpowder potatoes - OK but not special and not very spicy. The broccoli salad was very good and my dining companions mostly liked the chef's special biryani cooked with a naan covering and came with lamb liver sauce. We didn't have reservations but they made the wait so pleasant with hot drinks and then showed us to the bar for pre-dinner cocktails before our table was ready. Lets start off by I should have tried to see if reservations were a possibility. I decided to come check out Dishoom on weeknight with my family (4 in total), thinking that it would likely be shorter lineup than on a weekend. I was wrong. Because i walked by on a weekend night and the line-up was shorter. BUT during my 45 minute lineup for a table of 4, we were constantly offered chai tea, mint tea, and even shots of alcohol! Unfortunately nothing appropriate for the kids, so i had to keep feeding my kids snacks out of the backpack. Which i guess helped with the final bill in the end. After you are told that a table is ready, you are then given a buzzer to wait for your table. At this point you are welcome to get some drinks at the bar. We got a table downstairs shortly after handed the buzzer. Since our table was downstairs, we were asked to leave our stroller (pram) upstairs. I could see why once we got downstairs, it was very crammed. The tables were quite close together. Service was great. As i've never been to any of the Dishoom locations before, i wasn't sure about the portion sizes. We "under ordered" as per the recommendation from our server since we had 2 kids with us. Very thankful we did as most of the food was quite spicy. Also very thankful that they had a kids menu that had food that had no spice at all. I think it was around 10gbp, and portion was large! The option we got had grilled chicken, cucumber tomato salad, potatoes. I think it also came with a drink as well. For the rest of us, we got grilled veggies, a regular naan, garlic naan, monkfish curry, kathi chicken roll (came with cucumber salad), okra fries and the Dishoom house chaat. the chaat was my absolute favourite! the dessert was exceptional. the chili ice cream was subtle and a good pairing to the "chocolate pudding" that almost gave the consistency of a lava cake (melt in your mouth worthy!). the cheese naaan was to die for (warm when came out and the cheese pull!! 10/10 the best food I've ever had in my life. I'm dreaming of the day that I'll travel back to London to have Dishoom. The service was outstanding. Even with a wait outside, they were so attentive... offering complimentary small beverages while you wait. The staff was super organized and everyone seemed to be on one accord. Although the restaurant is a bit dark, it's perfect for a cozy date night. This was my first time trying Indian food so I didn't know what to expect but wow. Packed with flavor. I was so pumped to try Dishoom as I've seen it all over the Internet, and my friend raved about it. I heard this is one place to go if you only have a day in London, and I'd eat there whenever you're able to get a reservation for lunch or dinner--totally worth it! We came in at 1:30pm. The restaurant is huge, and the ambiance is lovely. The staff were very welcoming and made good recommendations. This food truly blew me away. For four people, one order of each dish was enough to share for lunch, and we were super full at the end. We skipped drinks and jumped straight to food as we walked the Tower Bridge earlier that day. We started off with two of my favorite appetizers--paneer tikka and chili chicken. Both were so flavorful with a perfect amount of spice. The chicken was so crispy, and the lime added a nice tang. The paneer was soft and marinated nicely. We also loved the ruby chicken, which had a classic butter chicken flavor except so much better quality. The gunpowder potatoes were spicy and made a decent side dish, but not really our favorite. The chicken biryani and garlic naan were so worth it too! Definitely a meal for the books 10/10 read more

Met some family here and had a wonderful dinner! Our family had made a reservation, but accidentally booked for AM hours instead of dinner, so we had a little wait. At the Kings Cross location, we were able to be seated in the downstairs bar while we waited for our table and enjoyed some lovely drinks. Then we moved upstairs and ordered way too much food, but everything was so tasty it was hard to regret it. I'm glad I got to try so many dishes. The place is gorgeous with fun decor and the service was outstanding. I keep finding myself surprised by the attention to food allergies, but I definitely appreciate it! Dishoom definitely has earned it's reputation and is a must visit. read more

My expectations were sky high given all the recommendations to eat here! The wait time was zero ( which is extremely unusual). The host and hostess were extremely kind - we had 2 additional guests show up and they allowed us to sit together. We ordered a number of dishes and I have rated the dishes based on my favorites : 1) Okra Fries/ Black House Dal - Brilliant! 2) Paneer Roll - tangy and the right blend of spices 3) Mutton Sheekh Kabab - could have used a little bit more flavor punch 4) Murg Malai and Chicken Tikka - good but I have had better 5) Chai / uninspired I am glad I got to try the food here - the ambience and decor brought in me a wave nostalgia of the wonderful Iranian Cafes in Pune that I had been exposed to years back. I will definitely be back if I visit London anytime soon. read more

Dishoom was on my friend's bucket list to try while we were in London. I think we did the best possible thing and went there at 11:45 pm after finishing a tour. There was no wait, we got seated immediately, and the food came out in literally 10 mins! We ordered the fish amritsari, the chicken berry Britannia biryani, and the ruby chicken with a roomali roti. The food was great! Our absolute favorite was the chicken berry Britannia biryani. The dum was wonderfully done and when you opened it up, the aromas of the biryani enthralled every single smell and taste receptor. The accompanying salan and raita were fantastic and the spice level was on the hotter side, which was perfect for us! The chicken was tender and spiced up which we loved. The fish amritsari was nice and crispy and the accompanying chutney was delicious. It could've been done with less oil overall as after a few bites, we definitely started feeling the weight of the food we had ordered. The ruby chicken was fine. Nothing wrong with it, but since this is one of their signature dishes, I expected to be vowed by it and I was not. I also felt that there was a tomato powder used in the curry because the taste reminded me of the instant tomato soup from Maggie or Knorr. The chicken was fine, but yeah, the curry wasn't up to my expectations. The roomali was less of a roomali, more of a thin large roti. Nothing wrong with that, but roomali in India is obviously very different so again, my expectations were very different. I also had the Bombay Bellini because of its kokum hint. The kokum was just a hint. You can actually add more of it! The people who order this drink usually order it because they like kokum so please don't be stingy about it! The pricing is actually quite reasonable but I do think they should charge more for that biryani. I paid approximately the same amount for the ruby chicken and the biryani and we know who the winner was and by miles!! The servers were all nice. The tables are small and the whole place is very dark, which takes away a little bit from the whole experience. We had a good time but we've heard that the wait time here can be up to 2 hours and I can safely tell you that this food, while being very good, is not worth a 2 hour wait. So try to stop by when you can be seated quickly or look for a different option. read more
