On our night out, our options to eat at ran dry and essentially we did not know where to go. It being the holiday season, everywhere was packed with either full house or long queues. My wife looked up other options as we were walking and saw Roti Chai. It sounded good so we walked it to this location. The host asked if we had reservations, and we said no. She led us downstairs where they were able to accommodate us. The ambiance and service was top notch. Our waitress was very attentive and let us take our time to order. Everything we've ordered was phenomenal with great flavor. I highly recommend this restaurant. I would definitely be back again when in town. read more

Two restaurants in one. More formal/traditional dining is downstairs and a more relaxed/street food experience is on the street level. I ate in the casual part of Roti Chai. The food is good and the dishes reflect the street foods of ann Indian market. The dining area is a large open room with wood tables and chairs. None of the cloth tableclothes you'd expect of the more formal experience. There are plenty of servers but for some reason, we had to flag one down each time we wanted to order. Our meal started with drinks and progressed to little plates and then main courses. We only had the table til 6:30 and started with 2 hours to eat but with the delays in ordering, we were pushing right up against the time limit at the end. One of my most favorite places from when we lived in London. Was just in this week and they have not missed a beat. The food, which they call Indian Soul food, was outstanding. This place was incredible!!! I cannot recommend it enough. The food was undeniably our favorite meal during our trip to London. Everything had so much flavor and each dish was better than the last. The service was quick and very kind. The waiter had many recommendations for us and was very pleasant to talk to. As were the hostesses. Everyone was very attentive. A manager even came and asked us how our meal was and questioned if we have any suggestions for them to improve on, to which we of course said no and that everything was perfect; The inside is clean and beautiful, as well as the bathrooms. Very good atmosphere with lovely decor. If I was a local, this is where I would take all my guests. 10/10 would recommend. Did an early dinner and had no issue getting seated. Strong food menu; everything we ordered was verygood. We opted for the more formal downstairs dining area, which had a nice vibe. Came here today as my last stop before heading to Heathrow. I hadn't managed my time so well and only had about 30 minutes for lunch. Luckily, I visited during Ramadan and they weren't as busy as normal. I was seated right away and got the Samosa Chaat and the Jackfruit Biryani. Both were delicious... especially when you add a little bit of the yogurt and chutney from the chaat to the biryani. Shout out to the kind hostess and the waitress who made sure the kitchen got my order out quickly. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting London or local to the Marble Arch area. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people who were Asian eating there - the mark of a good I Dian restaurant. I wasn''t a sed to the hipster vibe in an Indian restaurant but the food looked good. I did not like the ambience upstairs- it was def more like a cafeteria with high prices (and downstairs they were having a big private party) but the food was really excellent. We came here for dinner and they're not busy at all. The hostess asked us would like to try street kitchen or dinning room. We hesitated the different and checked the menu pretty the same dishes. We prefered to have Indian Tapas and we could ordered a bit more. Garlic Naan - it's fresh made, soft and fluffy. Vegetable Samosa - it's good but not great. Macher Jhol - fish curry just ok and not flavourful. Railway Lamb Curry - it's medicore and curry wasn't rich. We were visiting London and craving Indian food, and we were lucky to come across Roti Chai. We sat in the downstairs dining room, which has a different menu and vibe than the upstairs street kitchen. Everything we ordered was delicious! For starters we had garlic naan, saffron chicken tikka, and chili garlic prawns... all must have in our opinion. The main entrees- butter chicken and malai methi paneer- were wonderfully flavorful. They have excellent cocktails too... our favorites were the mango caipirinha and pineapple gimlet. You cannot go wrong with anything on their menu. read more

I went here on a Sunday afternoon approximately at 3:00 PM and it was quite crowded but I was able to get a seat within a couple of minutes. One seated I was given water and placed my order I ordered the chicken and Railway lamb. The chicken was very tender and the sauce that accompanied it was great. The Railway lamb was magnificent it was not too spicy. The lamb was cooked tenderly and it was also accompanied with some potatoes too. Absolutely delicious food with impeccable service in a restaurant that provides two dining options: The Kitchen upstairs that serves Indian Street food and the downstairs dining room that has a bar and a lovely nighttime atmosphere. Super happy with our evening and we are both foodies who can be picky. We had the lamb samosa which was best samosa we've eaten- the flakiest of crusts with very flavorful lamb and accompanying spicy sauce. The chaat was a revelation. Flavorful. Cool, and with multiple textures It was recommended by our waitress. We shared a main dish- the Nimisi chicken. It was so tender and juicy with a gorgeously sumptuous filling. The presentation at the table was a triumph. Perfectly sliced chicken fanned out in a bowl full of golden sauce was set out. The waitress then poured more sauce over the chicken table side with a lovely flourish. There was enough sauce in the pitcher to pour over to make the chicken even more steaming hot before eating. The rice was steaming from the bowl, every grain perfectly cooked-my husband kept commenting on the fluffiness.The naan was freshly made and very tender, The dining room had many large dining parties but you'd never know it by the attention to detail and the care the servers gave us. Instead of the tapas (or chaat as we might call it), I went for their side curries, paratha and pulao. The pulao was lacking the salt just a bit but otherwise the basmati combined very well with the steaming carrots, cauliflowers and other veggies. A side of chole with oil-free paratha completed a delicious dinner. The chole were cheap, plenty and had a rather unique spice to it. Love this place for casual dinners in the street kitchen upstairs. Everything I've tried has been delicious - from the refreshing papri chaat to the creamy kulfis - its all spot on. The naan sampler is great with anything, especially the curries, such as the pulusu chicken curry. The only thing is that service can be a bit slow - a bartender had noticed that we weren't being serviced and had to alert a waitress to get to us. Okay this was the best Indian food I've had so far in London. Nice place, good vibe and excellent food! Went here as a group of 3, and at around 8:15 pm; they had a 5 minute wait for the Street Kitchen. They also have a fine dining area, which we weren't really interested in. We ordered some Chilli Paneer for the table, which came after our entrees -- but it was good in a way. The Chilli Paneer's spice level is nuclear. I usually enjoy spicy food, but even I couldn't handle their spice level towards the end. For main course, I tried their Macher Jhol. It was absolutely delicious! I wasn't too impressed with the portion size. At £8.50, I expected a bit more.. but whatever portion was served was absolutely yumm! Best Indian food I've ever had. No lie. Downstairs dining area: I'm veggie, and was surprised to see so many options on the menu. I started out with the palak papri chaat. Excellent. My husband and I shared the Schezwan chilli paneer. Seriously, hold me down. Bada**. I then had the palak paneer and tarka daal, accompanied by the roti and naan plate. Wow, the paneer melted in my mouth, the palak was of the gods, and the daal was unique, and tasted like the most epic buttery daal goodness I've ever had. Broke my taste buds. Rico. Rico. Rico. The service was excellent. The waiter and manager were both very present, without being overbearing. Def going back! Update: 2 days later we went back to try the Indian street food (upstairs). In a city with no shortage of good food, Roti Chai is definitely a runt of the litter. The branding and decor are cool, but there's not a whole lot of depth below the surface. The food is rather bland for Indian food, and the whole street food shtick has been become rather tired and trite. This must be the universe's way of saying "beta, don't waste your shillings on such mediocre khaana when you can eat your ammi's cooking and buy her a gift with the money instead": point taken universe! The cocktails are actually fantastic here, and the few my brother and I tried were delicious, and reasonably priced...the food on the other hand was uninspired. The agni "fire" wings were fatty and chewy and as far them being "dangerously hot and spicy" per our waitress...mah, me thinks not. The English concept of "spicy" is laughable and the general lack of "mirch" left most dishes lacking in any sort of real flavor. I'd stop in for drinks and maybe a samosa...beyond that, just go to Dishoom! read more

Was recommended to go here by a local friend. The food was delicious. We had the butter chicken, chicken 65, and the lamb curry dish. I have zero complaints about the food it was perfect. The ambience and service though were just okay. We were in the reservation downstairs area and had expected it to be quiet and a nice date night. Especially when you're spending over a hundred pounds for two people for dinner. Couldn't have been farther from the truth. This is a very family friendly restaurant so a lot of kids were running around plus it was quite loud.
