OMG! Service and food were INCREDIBLE! I LOVE getting Indian Food when I come to London, given my arrival this morning I checked in to my lodging and found Zayna a short walk away.... I am SO GLAD I did. My server was super helpful answering my questions and helping me home in on something unique I hadn't experienced before. ... and WAS IT REMARKABLE!!!! I ended up selecting the Biryani Shah Jahani (Lamb) and some Tandori Partatha bread. The flavor was explosive on my pallet. I requested it as a medium spice level and was concerned that it may have been too "tame." In the end it was perfect (for my tastes). Had a nice amount of heat but not overly so. I'm here all week and can see myself swinging back by here multiple times. A definite place to add to your list of must experience Indian restaurants in London!!! read more

4 women close friends from NY wandering around in the neighborhood, noticed Zayna, small, pretty little restaurant. Great menu, we had a variety of apps, one of us had the cauliflower dish as a main, very flavorful, another had butter chicken, I had the lamb chops and one had harissa. Accompanied by red, white glasses of wine and a glass of prosecco. All were excellent, flavorful, well- spiced. We're used to NY restaurant prices, so this place felt moderately-priced to us. Service was lovely, we enjoyed a nicely-paced meal at our new discovery. If you're in the area, worth a visit. read more

Every trip to London should include a trip to Zayna. They have some of the best Indian and Pakistani food to be found! The restaurant is small and has a quaint atmosphere located walking distance from the Hyatt Churchill or about 4 blocks from Selfridges. Very convenient! We started with samosas, kebabs and tandoori. Quite a variety of incredible tastes. For the main course, we had the butter chicken and Jheenga Biriyania. Both are excellent dishes. The mutter paneer makes a great side dish. All of the deserts are wonderful--my favorite is the falooda. Definitely worth trying as the food, ambiance and service all are wonderful. read more

There is limited seating so be sure to make reservations. We've eaten at this restaurant about ten times in the last two years. When making reservations, request upstairs seating. This is not a great restaurant to bring small children or babies. The kutchoomer salad is a great way to start. It is comprised of diced apples, onions, cucumbers, lemon juice and parsley. It is so refreshing. The chicken skewer is spicy but comes with a dipping sauce that calms it down. Mukhun murgh is our favorite dish that is basically cooked white meat chicken cut into chucks and simmered in a rich curry sauce. We also order garlic naan bread and pileu rice. We've tried the lamb and beef and the chicken is the best. read more

What is it with Indian food that put me/us off for a long time? Most Indian restaurants serve their curry with the same old same old sauce. It seems they put the same sauce over any meat, be it chicken or lamb. The meat itself is drown in this insipid sauce, so one has to eat rice or nan to disguise it. This place is no different. To avoid the curry I ordered a mixed grill and a friend order tandoori lam chops. My dish is quite a decent portion, but the chicken pieces are dry. The lamb chops also. No sauce. Our host ordered a chicken curry because he is Jewish, and all I could see was a dish or yellow sauce with a few pieces of chicken. uninspiring. read more

On a recent trip to London, we had dinner at the charming Zayna restaurant in Mayfair where we'd been once before. They serve Northern Indian and Pakistani specialties in a lovely, cosy space filled with sumptuous fabrics and carved wooden furniture. For starters, we had vegetarian samosas, a delicious mélange of sautéed potatoes and peas encased in delicately flaky pastry. We also tried their "Boti" (chunks of yogurt marinated grilled chicken) which was superb. For our mains, we split an order of the Chicken Murgh Masala which consisted of chicken bathed in an outstanding creamy tomato gravy as well as the Salmon Sultani, grilled salmon cooked in an aromatic blend of crushed tomatoes, ginger and pepper. The waitstaff were friendly, polite and attentive. While Zayna's food is more expensive than your average London curry house, the food is topnotch and the atmosphere is delightful! read more

I was on vacation in London (from the US) with two friends and we stopped in for dinner. It was absolutely lovely. The staff, while busy, was attentive and helpful. The food (we had samosas, dal makhani, and mutter paneer) was all delicious and well proportioned. So tasty! We came here on a rainy Saturday for lunch, mostly due to proximity to our destination, but this could be a destination in itself. The server was opinionated about what was good and what wasn't (we did ask) and helped us select a fantastic combination of dishes. We weren't starving, so ordered two curries and one rice as we figured that would be enough. Took our first bites and immediately ordered some naan as well. American reviewer here. I've been to London many times, and was very lucky to stumble across Zayna on my first trip. My wife and I enjoyed it so much, it was the only restaurant we ate at more than once on that trip. And we've been back every time we've been to London since. It's some of the best Indian food I've ever had, maybe the best. I wish I could remember precisely which dishes we've ordered over the years, but we've had a number and all have been very tasty. The milder dishes (butter chicken style) are subtle and delicious. The hotter currys manage to hit a perfect mix of fragrant spice and flavor, and also lots of heat (without being too much). The meat is well cooked. I would highly recommend to any travelers. Next time I'm in London I'll be back. This is a very strong 4-star (bordering on 5 star) restaurant. read more

Underwhelming and rather empty at 6pm on a Monday. Came in for dinner alone, and only one other couple in the front of the restaurant and the chef in the back working on his Mac. The food was ok, but nothing breathtaking (had the til mil jheenga - two fried shrimp with a rather basic hot sauce; mukhun murgh - their version of chicken tikka masala, naan and basmati rice). Great food, very steep price! We were in the area so we thought might as well stop by since it was a Pakistani restaurant. I definitely felt underdressed, given most people were wearing formal shirts and pants. The owner however was very kind and let us sit down and offered us water and drinks immediately. The menu isn't overwhelming; it has just the right number of options. We ordered the Shahjahan Biryani, the Mixed Grill, Bengan Bartha (Eggplant) and a dish called Chicken Shaalimar. Each dish was between £14-18 and naan and accompaniments were another £5-7. Food quality was great, portion sizes were very very small for the price. This is definitely for more upscale audiences. As we were heading out, the owner, also from Pakistan and who relocated in London, struck up a conversation with my folks and we all talked for a good 25-30 minutes. It was refreshing to see just how caring and kind he was to us all. read more

My wife and I made reservations for 8:00 PM on a Sunday night, and we arrived promptly after a full day touring Windsor Castle, City of Bath, and Stonehenge...so we were a bit famished. We chose this restaurant mainly for its close proximity to our hotel...and after consulting Trip Advisor. The restaurant didn't seem to have any empty seats (it is not a big place but there seemed to be additional tables downstairs close to the wash rooms) when we got there, aside from our reserved table. We were seated immediately and shown the menu. I opted for Ishtu (the house specialty), and my wife chose Murgh Chatkhara, accompanied by garlic naan and white basmati rice. The main dishes were all good and flavorful...the naan was just OK. While the food garnered high marks as well as the attentive service, I don't feel the value is there. In a city replete with Indian (or Pakistani) restaurants, I felt there are other restaurants with food just as good as Zayna for a fraction of what you would pay in this restaurant. read more

My mother and I are huge fans of Indian food, but we wanted to try something slightly different. Walking to work every day, my mother saw signs outside Zayna's door touting the awards this Pakistani restaurant had won. We were intrigued. We ordered our standard Indian food favourites: lots of naan bread, aloo ghobi, Bhindi (okra) curry, and tandoori salmon. As an experiment, we also ordered a chick pea appetizer that came with yogurt sauce and pomegranate seeds. The food was really tasty (if a touch oily), and we couldn't help but finish our meal with a bowl of temple-achingly sweet house-made ice cream. The food was delish, and the staff was really quite lovely, lighting tea lights on our table before gingerly placing our food on them. That's a nice detail I've never seen before. The staff was generally attentive and helpful, our experience only slightly mired by our server's comment to my mother as we left: "goodbye, Lady!" Perhaps not. read more

Delightful, up-scale Pakistani restaurant. Best dishes we had were the butter chicken, the lamb curry, chicken biryiani, and the seekh kabab. (Those are not the names on the menu, but you can order them by these names. The actual names on the menu were unfamiliar to me.) The dishes were balanced in flavor, appropriately salted, and bore the kick that one expects in Pakistani cuisine. They do have one chicken kabab dish for kids that is flavorful without being the least bit spicy -- perfect for our small ones who are not (or not yet -- hope springs eternal) fans of the chili pepper. The second time we dined here, we were seated in the smaller room in the basement because they were so busy in the main dining room. In most respects, the room downstairs is less desirable than the main dining room. There is just one exception -- the basement location provides a view of the kitchen, through a large, decorative window. We were able to watch the four chefs at their respective stations -- prepping veggies, forming kebabs from scratch, rolling bread, tending the tandoor, spicing the dishes free-hand and from memory. We enjoyed the food all the more having watched the chefs perform their art. They can get busy, so if you're going at a popular time (like weekend dinner), it's probably a good idea to call ahead and make a reservation. read more

Eat here! You won't regret it. Zayna is rated one of the top restaurants in all of London. It was pure luck that it was located near our hotel and that there wasn't a wait for a table when we arrived! Inside was very cozy with comfortable furniture and mood lighting. The service was attentive and professional although a bit slow toward the end. After reading over their mouth-watering offerings I settled on Murgh Taka Tuk (marinated chicken with onions, tomatoes, chillies, and coriander). My vegetarian boyfriend and his vegetarian mom each ordered two half portions from the vegetarian menu. In short, it was all amazing, from the presentation right down to the food itself. I was particularly lucky because I got to sample the vegetarian dishes as well. Needless to say, we ate every last bite and were quite stuffed after. The three of us shared Falooda for dessert, but I found noodles on ice cream to be a little strange both in taste and texture. It's on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. And it is London after all! Overall, I'm really glad we got the opportunity to eat here. It is certainly one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to. read more

The minute I land in London, it never fails, I crave for Indian food and this is the perfect place for it. My friend from work suggested Zayna, so off we go this quaint yet cozy place. Naturally, I start out with my favorite, some Samosas, it was flaky and tasty followed by the chicken tikka masala, a bit on the spicy side, but oh so good. The one that stood out were the Prawns, it transported me back to my childhood because it tasted alot like my grandmother's recipe. Although, nothing beats the indian food at Asha's in Dubai, I think I'll make Zayna my new favorite when I'm in London. read more

Totally delicious. Very unassuming from the street, but don't walk by. Not really sure what we ordered, we just told our waiter to choose for us. 3 starters, 4 mains (2 chicken 2 lamb), spinach paneer (outstanding). Starters were Papdi Chanaa chaat- this is so unusual and very good. Spicy and sweet. Samosas, and the Jumbo Prawns (lived up to their name) Mains, can't even imagine what they were, but there was not a bad one in the bunch. All had sauces, not that it helps. So so good! It was so good we went back twice. The first night, they were closing so we had to order quickly but the prawns in the tomato based sauce was so good we had to go back again. The servers were friendly and kept up with drinks and water. The food was so delicious that I wish it was in the States so I could go again. I felt that the prices were pretty reasonable because the portions were generous. A little out of the way but seems very popular since the tables seemed packed even late at night. I also liked that it was open on Sunday whereas many restaurants in London seemed to be closed. We had the prawns (the best) as well as the lentils and the Chana. All were good. One of my friends with us had never had Indian food before and I was both jealous and sad for him because he got such an awesome intro to Indian food but now his standard is going to be so high that when he eats Indian food elsewhere it will most likely be a disappointment. lol. I've had Pakistani and North Indian Cuisine from San Francisco to New York City and this tops them all... absolutely WONDERFUL, from the delicious amazing food, outstanding wine list to the superior service, I highly recommend this place. First off I love Pakistani - Northern Indian Food, the spices, the flavors, Zayna hits the ball out of the ball park. We're from Vancouver. Visiting london and heard indian was must try. This place didn't disappoint. We went for their famous Tiki Masala and two veggie dishes (mixed lentil and spinach). We enjoyed our dinner at Zayna. We had Pakoras, Prawns and Mango Salad as appetizers. Dinner consisted of Tandoori Salmon, Murgh Karahi and Baati (Balti) Lamb. Mango Salad was excellent. Prawns were good as well. Pakoras were over cooked and so was the Salmon. The curry bases were good but meat on both Karahi and Baati was over cooked and, therefore, a bit tough. Overall it was a good experience and I will give it another shot. read more

We were excited to try a top rated halal Indian restaurant for our first food stop in London. Unfortunately, we went in with high expectations and came out disappointed. We ordered about 5 items; pakoras, chicken Tikka masala, prawn biryani, murgh Tikka, and the mixed grill. The flavors were slightly underwhelming. Coming from San Francisco, we have a plethora of wonderful Indian/Pakistani cuisine....without the need of putting a huge dent in our wallets.
