Dishoom is a popular place but the dinner line for 3 on a weeknight wasn't too bad (they don't take reservations), I thought the line moved fairly fast and at some point they handed out small sample cups of chai to us which was nice. It's very spacious inside. Although their black bean dish Black House Daal is popular, I don't think it's something I'd reorder because I don't like beans that much in general. As a chicken tikka masala fan, I enjoyed their butter chicken the most. It's the closest thing they have to chicken tikka masala--which they don't have, they only have chicken tikka which is dry and quite spicy, has no creamy sauce. I also liked the okra fried, which is a type of fry I'm not used to seeing! It's got flavor, and I also loved the chutney and sauces on the table! I enjoyed a Dishoom Margarita which was strong in alcohol content and flavor, and a nice addition to the meal. They have an interesting drink menu, where you will find lots of nonalcoholic and rather healthy options! I just do not understand the hype surrounding this restaurant. It's hard to get a reservation and there's a long queue to get a table without one. I just don't get it. In my opinion, there are 2 main things to know about Dishoom: it's an Indian restaurant that is a chain, with 11 locations worldwide. The food is really good for a chain, bit it doesn't begin to come close to a restaurant that takes care of of its individual customers. Walking in, there's lots of energy. People are having a good time, there's no question. We were seated upstairs where there must have been around 40 tables. All of the staff are walking around in a hurry, cause everything here is in a hurry. The intention is to get you our in less than an hour. They want you in, through, and out. I saw this with multiple tables. Our server Yanko came to our table quite promptly and helped us make selections, both for food and drinks. For the first time in my experience eating in a restaurant, the appetizers arrived minutes before our cocktails. They came so fast that we didn't even think it was our order. And then moments after the drinks arrived, all of the main dishes and sides were placed on the table. With no way to keep anything warm. All of this with 10 minutes of placing the order. I appreciate prompt service, but this takes it to an absurd extreme. Our appetizers included the house Chaat and prawn koliwada. I enjoyed the prawns more but the flavors were facile, not close to what I expect and have enjoyed in excellent Indian restaurants. The main dishes were the Goan monkfish curry and Sali Goan. These were also just OK, absolutely nothing special. The cheese naan was soggy, though the flavor was good. This was an unacceptable texture for a naan. Dessert was Basmati Kheer, flavorful Basmati rice with fruit compote on top. In between and unneeded, was a thin layer of creme brulee. I did enjoy my tea: ginger, lemon and honey and my wife liked her mint tea. I do not know the restaurant scene in Edinburgh, we've been here for 4 days. But this is just not a place I'deven consider returning to. It's really a factory that feeds folks, not a restaurant that cares for its customers. The chai is absolutely delicious. The Chicken Ruby, Okra Fries, and Masala Prawns were my favorite dishes. House Black Daal is their signature dish, which is good to try. The restaurant is dimly lit for an intimate family dinner, but a bit loud. The restrooms are clean. The staff is friendly. First off, I strongly recommend booking a table because it's quite a happening place. The place is dimly lit and I found it perhaps to be to little lighting in some places. After walking around the rainy streets of London for 11 hours I wanted some amazing comfort food and this is exactly what we got. Much like other places in London walking in you have no idea how far this place actually stretches. The restaurant is HUGE. We were seated right away on a Friday night and worried it would take a while to get food. It took us longer to decide what to order than to receive our food. The service was quick and every single dish was phenomenal. We decided to start with the samosas served with the most delicious sauce. You only get 3 so 1-1/2 each it was, yum! For entree we decided to split the super popular chicken ruby, a side of rice and the garlic naan. There was definitely some spice to the chicken but amazingly delicious. Out of our 10 days travels through Paris and London this was our absolute favorite meal. Came here on a Sunday morning around 10am, mainly because it was one of the few places open for breakfast. We had originally wanted to try Dishoom for dinner another time, but since they were open early, we decided to stop by for breakfast instead. This review is strictly based on the breakfast experience. Dinner may very well be better. The breakfast overall was a bit underwhelming and didn't really deliver much in terms of Indian flavor. The highlight was the chai tea, which was nicely done with a subtle hint of spice that was comforting and well balanced. We ordered the bacon naan roll since the server mentioned the naan roll is a signature item. Unfortunately, the naan wasn't warm and was quite soggy, and the bacon wasn't crispy, which made the whole thing lack texture and flavor. It just didn't come together well. We also tried the Kejriwal, which is essentially a cheesy toast topped with egg. This was better than the naan roll, but still fairly mild and nothing particularly memorable flavor-wise. On the plus side, the space is large with plenty of seating, and it was pretty busy when we were there, which says a lot about its popularity. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, which we appreciated. Overall, not a bad stop if you're looking for a place open for breakfast on a Sunday, but based on this visit, the food didn't quite live up to expectations. Dishoom is my favorite go-to for Indian cuisine when visiting London. I am thankful for my friend Tiffany J. who made the recommendation. On my first visit, I was coming from Italy and Germany and had to pick an overnight stay before coming back home to Houston. I literally picked London and stayed in a hotel in Covent Garden just to be within walking distance to Dishoom. Priorities. It was late, and I was exhausted traveling from the morning to 3 different countries. I read that there could be a significant wait time without a reservation, so I knew what to expect. It was still quite chilly in mid March and a little damp from the rain, but it wasn't so bad standing out in the line. I actually only had to wait 10 minutes, and they served chai tea. I think because it was just me, I got a seat ahead of larger groups. I was seated at a table for four. Since I hadn't eaten since breakfast, I ordered quite a few things like the infamous okra fries, charred lamb chops, garlic naan, basmati rice, hot tea and a cocktail. I laid it all out in front of me. The small bowl of okra fries were amazing and perfectly crispy without being too covered in breading and dusted with spices. I could snack on that often. The charred lamb chops were flavorful and nicely blackened. I liked the pop of pomegranate seeds to the dish. The basmati rice was cooked well like how I make it at home. There was plenty of thin garlic naan. The pot of ginger, honey lemon tea was soothing since it was cold, and I was feeling under the weather. The India gimlet gin cocktail was refreshing with the cucumber. Second time around, I was busy doing touristy things and celebrating the New Year and almost didn't make it back here, but I pulled myself together to catch the tube in the freezing cold on my last night. I actually hadn't been eating much due to the time change, so I was hungry. It's about a 20-minute commute walking and by tube from South Bank near the River Thames. I waited less than 5 minutes and was seated downstairs again. This time, I tried the Chicken Ruby with a side of basmati rice and a bottle of water (there's a charge). I started with the okra fries first, though. The Chicken Ruby was sooo good and homey. Loved that it was served in a cast iron pot. The makhani sauce was everything, and the chicken was so tender. It was like butter chicken. I'd order this again next time. I would've ordered a NA drink from their Teetotal Tipples menu, but I was so full and needed to hydrate. This was the perfect last meal before flying home. The server recommended I try breakfast items next time. I will definitely be back! read more

This review is for breakfast only. I ordered a naan roll with bacon. There was an option to add green peppers to "spice things up" and they ended up giving me a small serving of diced raw Thai chilis. I wasn't all that impressed with the naan roll. It had a sweet sauce in it, English back bacon was not crispy (as it usually isn't) and most surprisingly the naan didn't really taste all that fresh. Food was a miss but I'll have to come back and try lunch or dinner. My matcha latte was great. Service was helpful and attentive. They helped me navigate the menu and figure out what to order. The ambiance is very nice. The restaurant has low lighting and a huge amount of space so I can see it being a good spot for a nice dinner. I've had butter chicken (chicken ruby) plenty of times in my life but this butter chicken was the best I've ever had! I will say that one order of chicken ruby is good for 2 people to share. Before visiting I had several people tell me I need to go to Dishoom. After dining here, I can tell you that it is worth the hype! We had the lamb samosas, chili chicken, and okra fries to start - all were so flavorful and fresh! For mains we had the chicken ruby, which was the star of the night. It was so creamy and smooth with some spice to it. The black dal is recommended because they slow roast the lentils for 24 hours so it gives it a smoky flavor. We ended the night with lemon, ginger and mint tea which was perfect and light. This restaurant was recommended by my wife's UK counterpart, and it did not disappoint. We knew that this was the place to be when we arrived and there was a line around the corner. Somehow we were able to jump the line by only asking what the expected wait for 2 would be. They let us in and so the line is just a memory to me now. The food was so good that I would have easily waited for it. When we were in London a few months ago I slept through the chance to have Indian food in London and so Dishoom has set the standard. I've always heard about how some of the best Indian food in the world is in London. Until I get to Bombay I'll have to say that I agree. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was lively. We were sat downstairs and could see all of the food coming out and every dish looked tasty. We decided to have vegetable samosas, chicken ruby and goan monk fish curry served with rice.
