There are 3 Gunpowder locations in London. I went to the one in Spitalfields. It's a very small restaurant that serves delicious takes on Indian food. Everything is creative and mouthwatering. I had the absolutely delicious kale salad - the kale is crispy! And the leaf wrapped fish with a creamy mustard sauce - very moist and tasty. From my reservation, they knew my birthday was approaching so I also got a dessert with a birthday candle - very thoughtful! The waitpersons and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. London is known for good Indian food, Gunpowder really stands out as a great example.

The original Gunpowder where it all began! The food was incredible! The venison donut, soft shell crab and the aubergine and crispy kale salad were amazing. Small location so be ready for a wait. It was well worth the long wait though. Service was on point. Big fan!

Rasam ke Bomb

Made a reservation for a Friday night and had a great meal here. Super tiny space, so definitely recommend booking ahead. My boyfriend and I ordered: + Smoked old fashioned cocktail + Rasam ke Bomb + Porzhi Okra Fries + Gunpowder Chaat + Spicy venison and vermicelli doughnut + Barnsley lamb chop + Old monk rum bread and butter pudding Highlights were the okra fries (so nice I ordered them twice) and the pudding, followed by the Rasam ke Bomb (would order two of those next time because they're small, though they did warn us). Overall amazing spot!

Gunpowder had been on my list for London for a while. This review is for their Greek Street location. We decided to grab dinner here before going to an event at Soho House as it was around the corner. It's a small space but lively. We were seated exactly at the time of our reservation. We made same day reservations just hours before on a Saturday night. We ordered the "Festive Vegetarian Feast" which included: Gunpowder Chaat. Norfolk. Potatoes (Cannot go wrong with this chaat, delicious!) Kale, Bhuna Aubergine with Goat Cheese Salad ( I would pass on this if we had the option, fried kale was good & unique but nothing really held the salad together) Bengali Beet Root Croquettes (these were a favorite, texture and flavor 5/5) Grilled Artichoke Heart in Red Pepper Masala (THIS was the combination I never knew I needed in my life. Grilled artichoke hearts and masala made a unique combination) Mustard Malai Broccoli ( Roasted broccoli with a malai curry, I also never thought this combo would go great together until we tried it) Egg Curry Masala (Delicious, however a bit too spicy for my palate) Saag with Tandoori Paneer (Thick pieces of tandoori paneer over a bed of classic saag) Steamed Rice (perfectly cooked basmati rice) We wrapped up with the Triple Chocolate Brownie with Ice Cream and coffee. This was a LOT of food for 2 people but we wanted to try all the different items. Service was great. They even brought a candle out with the cake as we celebrated a graduation dinner. Would definitely come back next time I'm in London!

Amazing food!! Loved the tasting menu so I didn't have to make any decisions, which came with a great variety of dishes. Definitely can't go wrong with anything here.

Mustard malai broccoli

I visited solo in early June. Really loved both the broccoli and sea bass - the sauce on the broccoli was incredible. Seabass was light and glistening, not dry at all. The staff mentioned the donut was one of their bestsellers, but it was my least favorite item. It was ground meat covered in potato and shredded vermicelli and fried. I would come back to try more dishes. Superb value for the price.

Tiny little spot serving elevated Indian cuisine! Everything is small shareable plates, so be sure you come ready to order several things to pass. The dishes can comfortable be be split between 2, but for larger groups you'll want to order and extra of each item. Standout items for me were the tandoori chicken chop, porzhi okra fries, and mustard sea bass. Each item has a distinct pop of flavor. The only piece I didn't enjoy was the rum bread pudding - might be better with the extra shot of rum they offer. We rocked up at 8:30 and they had a few tables for two available for walk ins; however, it was a Monday night so I'd make a reservation if you're set on dining here. There's only about 15 small tables in general. Service is quick and efficient, with all of the food arriving within 15-20 minutes. Things did slow down at the end, if they always made sure we had anything we needed.

Great authentic Indian food in heart of London. The crab especially was delicious. The service and ambience is top notch as well.

This place was highly recommended and it lived up to its standard. The ambiance was astonishing. I made a reservation on Thursday for Saturday at 6:30 pm. Making reservations was easy. We trickled in a bit early the staff were friendly and they were able to seat us quickly. I ordered the gunpowder chaat, egg curry masala, white rice, and kerala beef pepper fry. The food was flavorful it was a good mix of different flavors and spices. The plates are shareable, so we definitely had the right amount of food for two people with a moderate appetite. I ordered a margarita and I was very impressed. My favorite was the gunpowder chaat. When in London, I'll definitely come back and try the other half of the menu. By the way, Dress casual, perfect for a date night in SoHo!

Our first meal in London and it was a wonderful experience. Overall the food was delicious but the soft shell crab was our favorite.

The food was exceptional -- aroma, flavors, spice levels, portions; everything was perfect. While visiting London, a local friend invited me to Dishoom, knowing how much I love Indian cuisine. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon around 5PM, and the place was already packed. They don't take reservations for dinner unless you're a large group, but trust me, the wait is worth it. They have a fantastic bar where you can grab drinks while you wait for a table (they give you buzzers). I tried the Negroni and another tequila-based cocktail (sadly I can't remember the name), and both were phenomenal. Shared plates are definitely the way to go at Dishoom. We ordered the gunpowder potatoes (incredible), an appetizer with potatoes and pineapple (not my favorite; the pineapple threw me off), monkfish curry (amazing), and chicken curry. It was a lot of food for just two of us, but I couldn't stop eating. I seriously wanted to bottle up that sauce! The service was surprisingly impeccable, especially considering how busy they were. We ended up spending about £110 for an incredible dinner, and we nearly couldn't finish everything. Lastly, the ambiance! Inspired by Iranian cafes in India, the atmosphere at Dishoom is eclectic. I loved the dim lighting, unique decor, and the lively pace of the restaurant. Just go!

So we did some research. Somewhere along the line we found Meraz written up as one of the 12 best Indian restaurants in England. Okay, so we trek over to the East End (pretty wild neighborhood that we enjoyed) for dinner at Meraz. My husband was disappointed not to find a particular dish on the menu, but the waiter didn't hesitate to offer to have the kitchen whip it up special for him. My husband also went a little wild ordering all sorts of appetizers and side dishes. Now I don't like to deal in hyperbole. A five star rating should be sufficient praise. But I'm going to go overboard just this once: BEST INDIAN FOOD I'VE EVER EATEN IN A RESTAURANT. EVER. I've eaten in Indian restaurants at home in Chicago, in L.A., New York, St.Louis, Atlanta, San Francisco, etc., etc. etc. Many have been good, but none approached this. We ate every scrap of all the food we ordered, and only because we had a tight timeline and a busy itinerary for our brief visit to London did we not go back for at least a second meal.

As soon as you walk in, they offer to hang your coat. The young lady who was our server for the evening gave us the best recommendations--I wish I knew her name. She was so patient with our many questions and didn't steer us wrong. My friends and I started with the wings as an appetizer. They had the perfect amount of grill flavor and were very saucy and well seasoned. There was no classy way to eat them--they were that good. For our entrées, we ordered the goat shoulder and the half rack of lamb chops. The half rack is more than enough for one person, especially with naan and rice. The reviewers were not lying when they said you must try the lamb chops. They came out sizzling, and we laughed because it took us back to dining at Chili's (iykyk). Perfectly seasoned and incredibly tender. The same goes for the goat shoulder. This was my first time trying it, and I was very impressed with how good it tasted. While I'm not usually a dessert person, you must try the carrot pastry. Think of it like a McDonald's apple pie (the old-school one), but with warm carrot filling on the inside and a sprinkle of pistachio on the outside--just 10x better. Everything here tasted spectacular, including the chili naan. Can't wait to come back and try more dishes.

Found this restaurant on Yelp after seeing such great reviews and I wasn't disappointed! Booking Process: Made the booking on the phone only a few hours earlier and requested a nice table…read moreand when we arrived we were not disappointed. Location: The restaurant is a little out of the main road and it is just down after the Hakkasan which is next door so easy to find once you get on the right road. Decor & Lighting: Modern design with low light levels and separate bar area as well as a separate private dining room so great for events and private parties. Open Kitchen so you can see all the work. If you want to take photos in the evening you will need to take a light and/or flash. With large glass windows however i think light levels will be fine during the day. Ambience & Acoustics: No need to shout here and music is background and not overpowering. I am sure they can turn up the volume as desired should you want more of a party given i have seen they do live music events in the bar area. But during a normal dinner the level of background music was perfect so you can actually talk without needing to shout. Drinks: Many options here but as i do not drink i focus on the mocktails and they had a good selection and again the staff were able to adjust and amend any based on your taste. You also can get masala chai by the way for all the fans out there. We had the following: Passion Infusion - Asked for one to be more citrus and loved it. Very fresh and sweet but i really enjoyed it. Darbaar Smoothie - A nice red berry drink, thick but full of flavour, i got a hint of cinnamon but i like cinnamon so no complaints there. Food: There is a good selection of food but not too much that you cannot make you mind up. It does seem at first that there is a limited vegetarian selection but this is not the case as they are able to accommodate and make dishes off the menu. One of the party was vegetarian and did not go hungry. Portion size is perfect as any more and we would have wasted it. Worth sharing dishes so you can taste a wider selection. Food all arrived promptly and hot. We had the following: Papad and Chutneys - Great selection and mini papad making it a lot easier to share. Came with three chutneys, all were great and different to the usual. Corn Fritters - Veg option and small portion size but it was nice but not spicy Grill platter (to share) - We asked for the salmon to be substituted which was no issue and you get a selection of Panner, Lamb Sheekh, Murgh Malai Kebab as well as Tandoori Salmon which we had subbed out. The selection and food was fresh and clean. All tasty but mild with the exception of the Lamb Sheekh which had a little kick to it. Chutney served with the dish was just right. Nothing was left.... Nizami / Baby Aubergine - Again everyone liked the dish and something i have not tasted before, came in a sauce which i tried as i don't really like Aubergine (just the consistency i think) but i did enjoy the dish and great vegetarian option for a main course which is not on the menu. I noticed another review said it was caked in oil but i did not find this was the case when we visited. Cumin Roasted Potatoes - Cooked perfectly and a nice side dish. Kasturi Butter Chicken - Cooked well and tasted nice but i am not sure how you can really make a butter chicken taste much different as you get a similar taste in many good Indian restaurants but not too sweet and classic taste so you know what to expect. Rice / Garlic Nan and Roti all served cut and initially looks like a small portion but really fresh and not thick but plenty for us. Garlic nan was really nice and not overpowering. The rice was also really perfectly cooked and very aromatic. Could have eaten the rice just by itself. Desert - Not a large selection but plenty to choose from and they do specials of the day. I was lucky as the special was one of my favourites a Dark Chocolate Fondant with Cinnamon ice cream. Really lovely chocolate sauce inside and it was really good, even though i was full i could not resist and had to eat all of it. Single portion size but enough for a dessert. Highly recommend this dessert if you are a fan of chocolate. Staff / Service: Everyone was super friendly and attentive. There was only some confusion over a second drinks order but this was rectified with no fuss and it is important to know that any issues are dealt with. Head Waiter was always attentive and kept passing by and was always able to help and advice on dishes and happy to make amendments to a dish and even suggested and made off the menu items. We were also introduced to Abdul Yaseen who is the owner and chef. Which was a nice touch. Bill / Cost: We had three in our party and we shared dishes with only mocktails and no alcoholic drinks and the bill came to £50 per head (£150 total for three of us) which i think is reasonable for fine dining. But i would add another £20-40 for those drinking depending on how much is consumed. Conclusion: I would highly recommend a visit and its nice to be in a different area
