Came from Scotland today and needed a chill vibe late at night with amazing food in the Tower Hill area. The greeting was so welcoming and my server, Kawsor, was genuinely so kind and attentive. They constantly refilled my water and brought me a warm damp napkin at the end to clean my hands, which was such a nice touch. Servers are AMAZING!!! Wanted to make sure we did Indian while in London. Made reservations at The India. A little confusion with the listed locations and Open Table but we managed to get to the 2 St Mary's location. The waiter seemed to have a little attitude - especially when I did not want his suggestion of pappadum. But when all was said and done, we had a lovely meal. We ordered samosas, chicken biryani, aloo gobi, one naan and one rice. We also received a daal which I think came as the main entree with the aloo gobi. It came quickly and very hot. We had a long day walking around London, took the Uber boat up the Thames, and got off at Tower of London. Walking more, we happened upon another great Indian restaurant, The India Monument 3 at 2 St. Mary at Hill. Downstairs, a beautifully designed, softly lit decor with Indian infusion. Much larger than expected, we were surprised to learn each person needed to order a main course, as opposed to our typical small plate ensemble, but it worked out well. My partner chose the salmon tikki (£14.95). The salmon was perfectly cooked, moist and tender, not spicy, but healthy and delicious. I chose the chicken jalfrezy (£13.95). Tender strips of breast chicken meat in a sauce of peppers, onions, tomato, and spices, including curry. It was a spicier dish, totally enjoyable, I'd get it again in a NY minute. The cheese and garlic naan (£3.95) was delicious and large, but included only a single naan, a high price in my opinion. Everything was fantastic from the greeting, to the service to the food! My server, Shah was fabulous! He recommended a dish for me with a medium spice and it was delicious! The service is attentive, but not hovering over you. You are even given a warm towelette to clean your hands after eating. Ruhit was very kind and pulled the table out for me to sit as well as laid out the cloth napkin for me so that my clothes do not get dirty. Fantastic ambiance and service! The food was phenomenal so very different than the states. Prices are fair and servings were perfect! Very Disappointing Service Experience I had a very disappointing experience at The India, Monument, mainly because of the behaviour and service provided by Raj Ali. When we arrived, there were clearly seats available, but Raj Ali told us that there was a 1-hour waiting time and gave us information that did not appear to be accurate. We were prepared to wait, but shortly afterwards, another female staff member spoke to us very politely and professionally and arranged a table for us in approximately 5 minutes. I have been working in the hospitality industry for more than 10 years, and honestly, I have rarely experienced such poor customer handling and communication. I would strongly suggest that the management look into this incident and provide appropriate training to ensure that customers are treated with honesty, respect, and professionalism. The other staff member who helped us demonstrated exactly how customers should be treated. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and ensures that other customers do not have a similar experience. read more

Wow. It has been a long time since we've been to a place that surprised us like The India 3 - Best in the City did. First off, the staff were all wonderful. We walked into their downstairs area, and the vibe was very chill while a little lively (and lovely). Dimly lit, music playing at a low volume, and a beautiful tiger painted on a wall. We were greeted immediately and in a friendly manner. We made reservations with Fork and were led to our table. First, the staff provided us with the sample of Papadom four different dipping trays including a diced vegetables tray, mango chutney, a spicy pickled limes dip, and a yogurt with mint and honey. So good! Wow! We ordered one main dish and one side per person. - Lamb Shank with a side of Pilaou rice which looks a bit like biryani rice. So good. One of the recommended dishes. - Butter Chicken with a side of rice. The hint of coconut and almond was yummy. - Channa Masala also with rice. My daughter loved it. - My son had the Lamb Biryani and it was a big serving of rice with a tasty lamb in sauce. A little different than we were expecting but still great. - Balti Masala Chicken, my wife ordered it and also loved it. All the dishes were just fantastic. We would recommend any of them. We were so stuffed, we actually had leftovers for every person in our group. Good portion sizes. The staff also provided us with some chocolates at the end. The staff were all just wonderful. They checked on us frequently, but not in a way that was at all intrusive. Everyone was very friendly, conversational, open to making recommendations, and just generally felt like people. Well trained and courteous. Even though we are part of the first sitting, they never rushed us into paying or leaving. Just super hospitable. Thank you to the team at The India 3. The banner outside looks like it needs to be replaced but don't be scared: really nice place inside. We were a party of 4 on a Friday night. The place didn't look that full but the staff acted overwhelmed. Our waiter was not the friendliest and he wasn't helpful, which is disappointing considering other reviews raved about service. The food is perfect for people who don't want anything too spicy hot. We had chicken tikka masala (the sweet component was high), salmon tikka (very good), aloo gobi and saag paneer (both ok and the paneer also kind of sweet). We were told that the Indian Food is great in London, so did some online searching. We made a reservation for lunch and were seated right away. There were several waiters milling about but it took fifteen minutes for one to come to the table. During our meal we were served by three different waiters. The menu is extensive, but confusing. When we asked for clarification, our questions were not clearly answered. I asked for water three times before it was delivered. The food was fine, but over priced.
