I like that the vibe is fun and casual (order at the counter, grab a number, find a table, they bring you the food). Self-service on cups, olive oil, and a bottle of water (pull one out from the fridge opposite the order counter). Music is always great. Come early to be able to get in and out, otherwise may take some time to get your food and/or a table. Always a fan of the rigatoni, but the seasonal specials are always great too. After attending the opening of Mission Ballroom in RiNo, everyone in our car was starving and all of the restaurants in the area were packed. Luckily, we happened on this very quaint, neighborhood find in five points. Dio Mio offers delicious, homemade pasta dishes and small plates, but the house salad was better than any I have had. The flavors of the pasta were original and absolutely delicious. You order from the counter, then jockey for a table when one opens. It would be great if they offered tables on the sidewalk outside. One downfall was the restaurant was extremely hot and they served their water in hot glasses right out of the dishwasher. It was very toasty and stuffy, ​to say the least. I can tell that Dio Mio sources their dishes seasonally due their changing menus (based on the pictures of the dishes posted on several social media platforms). Today, we decided to be a little adventurous and ordered quite enough for just two people. From the sharing section on the menu, we ordered broccoli that comes with nicely balanced cheddar sauce and we also had the Fritto Misto which consists of fried tempura and fried broccoli. Both were good but of course, anything that is fried (which means helloooo crunchy food) always tastes so much better! Ah, the pastas. Three pastas for two people. Yes, we dared and we liked it. CO Beef Cannelloni (first place), Spaghetti alla Chitarra (second place), and last but not least, the Cavatelli. The CO Beef Cannelloni was extremely good to the point where you just keep wanting more of it. In my opinion, I thought it was a warm and cozy dish. There's something about the brisket and cheese filling that just soothes your soul. So good. The Spaghetti was great but it didn't shout out "best spaghetti ever". I liked how thick the actual spaghetti is and deeply appreciated the amount of sauce, not too much and not too little. The meatballs were ok, I thought they lacked flavor. Cavatelli, Cavatelli, Cavatelli dish. I really wanted to like this pasta dish but it just didn't satisfy me expectations. It was ok. Nothing special. I mean, I liked the poached egg and of course, the pistachios but the broccoli pesto was surprisingly very dull and it just cried out for sharpness. That was a disappointment, to be honest. Went here on a Friday night and they were busy but didn't take too long to get seated. There was a mix up with our phone number and our reservation but they were really nice and seated us right away. We ordered three dishes for three of us which we all shared. The amount was prefect. We had the rigatoni, the chicken parm and one other i can't recall right now. The chicken parm was really different from the norm but it was so delicious, it had a spice to it that was unexpected but delicious. The staff was also really nice and helpful. I have been looking forward to coming here because their pastas sound amazing. I'm not a fan of the seating process since its first come first serve and self order. It was very chaotic and you were always on a lookout for someone to leave. It's not that much different from going to a food hall except there's only one restaurant and very limited seating. I got the Thai squid ink pasta, which seemed like it would be good. It had potential except it was way too salty. The rigatoni pasta was perfectly cooked and flavored. You order by going to the counter placing order/paying then they bring it out to you, we ordered a Moscow mule and paid for it to then be condescendingly told by the bar tender that they couldn't make the drink because "not sure if you're aware but lime prices are skyrocketing because there is a shortage so we have none here." This is a bittersweet review. I was so excited that a new homemade pasta restaurant opened and I was eager to try this place out. The concept of the restaurant is a bit confusing in my opinion - once you walk in, you stand in line and wait to order your food with the cashier/bartender like a fast food restaurant. You have an option to keep an open tab or close out your tab. If you decided to keep an open tab - you can order more food with the server. For an appetizer, my sister and I ordered the sourdough - delicious burrata, prosciutto, and balsamic vinegar. Simple yet delicious dish for $13 I ordered the stuffed mezzaluna - sunchoke filling, sunchoke chips with clementine. The pasta was cooked al dente, which I prefer, and the clementine was a nice touch to the dish for $15. However, the portion of the dinner entree is a bit small and still walked out hungry :( read more

Because I live in Five Points, I have to try out the new places. When you walk into Dio Mio, it already smells delicious. They have other tasty dishes but I had the Stuffed Mezzaluna which is as they describe on their menu "sunchoke" filled ricotta pasta. Basically, it is Jerusalem artichoke filled pasta and they mix clementine, sage and cherry tomatoes plus it comes with sunchoke chips. It is very delicious but very filling. I am cheating on my review because I am including a picture of someone else's dessert. It looked very nice but I was too full. It's called a Nutella Semifreddo which is cherry and brown sweet hazelnut and chocolate. It is suppose to have the texture of cheesecake. Strange being a Yelper and snapping a pic of someone else's dessert, anyways - they do accept Android pay too. I've been going to Dio Mio since it first opened and it's one of my favorite restaurants in Denver. 1) They make their own homemade pasta and it's incredible... making your own pasta is expensive and time consuming, yet the portions are generous 2) They keep everyone's faves on the menu - you must have the spaghetti and meatballs and the cacio e pepe but they also don't rest on their laurels - they change up the menu frequently - so many creative dishes to choose from, they really excel with spring/summer/fall veggies and fruits (I love places that put a spin on traditional) 3) Their bread is unreal and made in house every day 4) It's hip and fun, great music and vibe and I love when that garage door is open 5) Staff is super friendly, and you'll even see the owners serving and even bussing tables 6) 1/2 of a bottle of wine of Wednesdays. Ordering Italian food fast casual style is odd. I don't know why it'd be different than Mexican or any other cuisine but it is. Getting past that is the only issue here. The food was fantastic. The portions are ample and the ingredients were all fresh and tasty. We split several apps and ordered most of the pasta dishes and nobody had a bad word to say at the end of the meal. I was rather disappointed by DioMio. 1. In order to order food or drinks You have to que at the register by the front entrance. If you want a second glass of wine, you have to take your empty cup through the line and wait for the cashier to serve you again. 2. The only happy hour menu is at the front of the register on a small piece of paper. So you can't look at until it's your turn to order. Allowing no time to contemplate any food or drink options. 3. And saddest of all, the pasta wasn't that good. For $20 a dish I expect more. Next time I'll just cook noodles at home. read more

Great new modern Italian restaurant in Rhino! Drinks were well made, and the pasta dishes we ordered were unique and delicious! We ordered a handful of entrees and shared them around the table because everyone had a hard time settling on just one menu item. For appetizers we really enjoyed the sourdough, prosciutto, and buratta as well as the octopus and potato skewers. Don't let the octopus in the name scare you away, it was incredible! For entrees we loved the Rotolo which I would describe as an Italian pasta pinwheel. Imagine onions, mushrooms, cherries, and spinach wrapped in homemade pasta topped with a poached egg. Soooo good! The mint pasta with pistachio and lamb ragu was also a major hit. Favorite drinks were the giblet and RIP AP (bourbon). We left full and happy! Will be back again! read more

Simply outstanding! I came here by recommendation of a friend and I'm so glad I made it a priority to dine at Dio Mio! First off, be prepared for it to be busy. The restaurant is a seat yourself situation and it's not that big so be prepared to wait for a bit (we came around 8:30 and it was packed to the gills). We found a spot for 2 after waiting for 5 or so minutes, so we got lucky (however it was at a table that was a tight squeeze). You order at the counter and wait for your food, and that's it! I will say the only negative was how long everything took, but they're making the pasta super fresh so it was understandable. And, let me tell you, it was worth the wait!! I got the Cacio e Pepe and it looks simple but it's packed with flavor! I was in heaven. If I lived in Denver, I'd definitely try out more of the menu. I was only in Denver for 2 nights and this was the one restaurant I could not miss according to my host and she was not wrong. The restaurant is the order at the counter bring to your table type and getting seating was a bit harder with the Covid limited seating but it was worth the wait. Though everything we had tasted good the fritters were definitely a not to miss item. To be honest they seemed slightly more dessert than appetizer (without being too sweet) but neither if us were complaining. I was thisclose to having dinner at Bar Fausto (also excellent) but my husband was adamant about trying out Dio Mio and I'm glad he was because we hit the last few minutes of happy hour and ended up eating a truly delicious meal. We shared the charred broccoli and I literally wanted to drink that sauce, then split both happy hour pastas. Both were incredible with the freshest tomato sauce on one and a good old cacio e pepe on the other, but the latter was my favorite. Mostly, shout out to those delectable noodles! So thick, chewy and perfect. Took slightly longer than I expect for an order-at-the-counter place, but once those bowls of pasta came out, I forgot about the wait. Worth it. Oh and we both loved our cocktails. Ramazzotti Mule for me, R.I.P. A.P. for him. This place is pretty far down (up?) on Larimer and it was sorta early-ish, so maybe that's why it wasn't busy but there was literally only one other group in the whole restaurant. The place only had a few tables sat and a ton empty but they sat us in a dark sectioned off area tucked away by the bathrooms with ski sports playing on the projector. I wanted to try this place for almost a year. Fast casual fresh pasta... what's not to like? The place itself is pretty cool, big open garage doors and the industrial feeling every other place has in RiNo. Got an appetizer and the spaghetti and meatballs. Appetizer was shishito peppers, not too shabby. Waited 40 minutes and the pasta never came. Two tables around us sat down after we ordered and were finishing their meal when I asked about the pasta. The waiter asked the kitchen staff who got a good laugh over the fact that we were forgotten. Finally got the entree and the pasta was cold. The meatballs were hot, but waaaay too dense, dry, and obviously over-cooked. The food was not terrible, but not worth $19.00 for a small plate of spaghetti and meatballs. Can't see myself going back, the food is not worth the price and the service was awful. read more

The fast casual concept of this restaurant is broken. Got there and waited about 25 minutes for our table. Got a nice little booth. The gentleman who sat us was very nice and polite. You have to go up to the counter and order the food. This is where the problem starts. Got up there to order. It seemed like the cashier and back of the house manager, having some sort of creative differences and didn't acknowledge us for several minutes while we tried to place our order. No eye contact and no acknowledgment that we were even there. So you order and you have to tip immediately...this is the problem, because the service after that was invisible. The first course came out, which was bread and some prosciutto, after we were almost done with that the drinks came out. We promptly finished the first course and waited over half an hour for the pasta dishes. Keep in mind we were sitting right in front of the kitchen and there seemed to be no sense of urgency. The restaurant wasn't that busy and it's not like they're rolling and cutting every pasta dish to order. When the pasta came out, (we had the Cacio e Pepe and the rigatoni). Both were under sauced and under spiced. The pasta was dense and chewy. Overall, a very unimpressive meal with imperceptible service. It's essentially a bougie Olive Garden. read more

Fast casual pasta place. I like the IDEA of it, but I honestly think this restaurant needs a bit of help in some areas. They tout "handmade pastas" which leads me to believe that they are going to be fresh. The pasta itself wasn't bad by any means, but it certainly wasn't fresh. I have a hunch that it's likely dried pasta they're using. The menu information needs to be cleared up. We ordered the burrata plate and expected sour dough bread, as that's what it says on the menu. It was excellent, for sure- all I ever dream of eating is burrata, but we got some sort of whole grain loaf instead of what's listed on the menu. Additionally, we ordered the shishito peppers, which we really weren't sure if it was made with or without meat! Even us meat eaters couldn't tell and the vegetarian of our group wasn't sure. They were ok, nothing to write home about either. It tasted less like XO sauce, and more reminiscent of cha siu to me. Hubby and I shared the rotolo and the rigatoni. The rotolo was something we'd never had before- reminds me of a lasagna because the noodle exterior is crisp, kind of like lasagna edges! It was atop pureed eggplant, which I thought would be IN the rotolo. Instead, it was just a mediocre sauce bed that didn't lend much to the dish itself. Maybe they were aiming for elegance here? The rigatoni was solid, but it was a little more lemony that I would have liked. Overall, the food was plentiful for the price we paid. The service- there isn't any, as you order at the counter and then sit down with your number. I guess the only service we really encountered was at the register, and dude wasn't very friendly - perhaps he was having a bad day. With a recommendation and after reading the reviews we decided to have the end of my visit dinner at Dio Mio. Our food arrived and things went down hill. The pasta was the most gummy clumpy pasta I've ever had. No one came to check on us during our entire meal. In fact My daughter had to get up and ask that our table be cleared so we could have the Warm Olive Oil Cake and Palisades Peaches with Pastry Cream. No one offered us forks and the only utensil left in the container on the table were the big Tablespoons. Their interpretation of peaches were 4 tiny slivers of peaches not even totaling a quarter of a peach. i went up to the register to pay and they did take off for my pasta. May be the best pasta I've had in CO, quite possibly the best I've had in the U.S.! Pasta is fresh, menu is simple, flavors are a great blend of traditional and modern. Having been to Florence and Rome this pasta is extremely reminiscent of what I've had in Italy. The only small gripe I have is the portions are a little small for my liking, it's enough to stop the hunger but leaves me wanting more, two orders seems too much but one (for me) isn't enough, I know it's supposed to be tapas but I really wish there was about three more big bites a plate. I've taken taken multiple people here on several occasions and it's been great every time. I highly recommend the squid-ink spaghetti. We've gone back several times now and have had the fried mushrooms, sourdough, cacio e pepe, stuffed raviolli, fettuccine with parmesan, and of course the squid-ink spaghetti.
