Last time my mom had Dinah's chicken was in the 80s, so when we were in the neighborhood today, we decided to stop in. Parking lot is small, but we were able to find a spot. Restaurant is also small but they were able to accommodate the two of us with my stroller for the baby. I ordered chicken and waffles with one regular piece of chicken and one spicy... the flavor on the spicy piece was delicious and both pieces were so juicy! Mom says it's as tasty as she last remembered. All the sides were good -- we tried macaroni salad, mac and cheese, and the mashed potatoes. I love fried chicken and had never had time to try Dinah's in Glendale. I was in town the other week to visit family and finally had a chance to visit Dinah's Chicken. Dinah's has been in business for 59 years. What a great spot, as you walk up you are taken back in time, the decor, menu board and high-quality fried chicken. We were seated quickly even though the dining area is very small, they seem to turn the tables fairly quickly. The menu is simple but with plenty of options, my brother and I ordered the Chicken Dinner, which is served all day, it's a 3 piece of chicken, 2 sides, we chose the pineapple coleslaw and mashed potatoes and gravy. The pineapple coleslaw had a lot of flavors the pineapple gave it a nice refreshing taste, a must try. They also offer a chicken drumstick for one dollar, well worth it, it is nice sized. The chicken skin is nice and crispy, not sure how they fry the chicken, but I really appreciated the fact that the chicken was not greasy, the taste of the chicken was amazing. They have a variety of drink options and pies, I counted 8 different pies or so, some from memory are, Cherry, Banana Cream, Pecan, Chocolate Cream, Lemon, Meringue, Blueberry, they looked amazing, we did not have any space for a slice but next time we might prioritize a slice or two. The service was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the 2 piece with a Breast and a Wing, Mashed Potatoes, and a side of Mac & Cheese. The chicken is juicy and tender, with a really nice season on the crispy batter. Dipping it in the gravy from the mash is the way to go. I asked for additional gravy and that didn't charge me for it. All I remember from that visit was I was disgusted to find pineapple in their Cole Slaw, I was a NY snob when it came to deli salads, proud that I've grown in my openness to variety, fast forward to today, armed with the knowledge of the pineapple, we gave it a try. A bucket with two sides, the other being mashed potatoes. The place is smaller than I remember, it's also clean. The person that waited on us was friendly. We ordered for pick up, so little interaction actually transpired. The Chicken was very good, the sizes of the peices were quite substantial as was the price a bit over $56 with door dash. We visited Dinah's Chicken in Glendale with our family and used a Groupon to purchase a family meal, fully intending to sit down and eat in the dining area. After we arrived and sat down, the manager named Olga informed us that we were not allowed to dine in the restaurant with other patrons because we had used a Groupon. When I pointed out that this felt like unfair treatment and discrimination against Groupon customers, she stood by the policy. We no longer felt comfortable or welcome, so we asked for a full refund and left without eating. The entire situation left our family feeling humiliated and disrespected. I understand that businesses may have restrictions on promotional deals, but publicly segregating paying customers based on how they purchased their meal is unacceptable. For sides we went with the Mac and cheese ( not pictured ) pineapple coleslaw, stuffing with a side of cranberry sauce and dinner rolls. The chicken was cooked perfectly not greasy at all, just needed a touch of salt for my taste. The pineapple coleslaw was delicious just a touch of sweetness not overwhelming. Unfortunately the reviews on the Mac and cheese were correct it did not have enough cheese and lacked flavor. As for the stuffing it was delicious reminded me of my mother in laws, the presentation wasn't all that appetizing but it was good. Personally I like this fried chicken more than Roscoe's. I know I know but Dinah's breading and flavor are more consistent. Not overly fried and juicy tender meat. People keep coming in and out of the restaurant walking out with buckets and trays of just fried chicken. If that doesn't tell you something good let me tell you more. They even have batter fried fish and shrimp. They're also not overly breaded or fried. My mom loves the fried liver and gizzards mix. So crunchy!!! As for the sides it's hit or miss.
