We just had a really nice dinner at a second generation family run business. The food, atmosphere, and service were very good. I had the prime rib. I very generous cut served with creamy horseradish. Now, I've been an avid Jazz fan for years now and have never ventured to the Dresden while living in LA. I'm kicking myself because of course I fell in love with the Dresden on my short trip back. Arrived around 10:30 and this place was in full force. Beautiful people, lovely bar, and incredible music. I was lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar. Spent the entire night in complete awe of the environment! I had a great time people watching and singing along with the jazz singers and everyone else. Drinks were nice and strong too. For LA, pretty reasonable. I paid about 38 bucks for two drinks. Pretty great especially since there was no cover at the door. Loved my time here at the Dresden! I'm an LA girl through and through so I'll forever be visiting and will totally make The Dresden on my rotation of spots to listen to great music while I'm here. read more

My best friend is always dragging me to piano lounges in Vegas, where she orders all these old-timey drinks that nobody seems to drink anymore--Grasshoppers, Nuts & Berries, and all kinds of crazy throwback cocktails. So I figured it was time to bring her somewhere that actually fits her personality. We walked down to The Dresden and, of course, it was packed! I cannot believe it has been about 20 years since I last went to The Dresden Room (sorry, I hat that it is now just called "The Dresden" but I guess I get it. Maybe? lol My wife, son and I dined here last Friday night after we dropped our daughter and her friends off at the Greek Theatre to catch a concert (Yungblud). I was a little hesitant since it had been so long but the reviews continue to be solid and nostalgia sealed the deal. And I'm so glad we chose to have dinner here! Long gone, unfortunately, are Marty and Elaine...but the place is the exact same as it was 20 years ago which is so great to experience. The vibe, the service and the food were all absolutely excellent, as always. First of all, the ambiance in the dining room is amazing and takes you back to yesteryear dining lounges with deep white leather booths, dim lighting and amazing structures including vertical wooden slats between tables and massively tall ceilings. How I love this place! It brought me right back to when I was dating my wife of now 24 years back when we were in our....eesh...late 20s. Our waiter and our server were both incredible and I feel terrible that I've forgotten their names but our waiter (pic) mentioned that he has been there for 30 years so I am quite certain he was our waiter us back then, too. And the server was equally amazing, checking on us, refilling our water (and I drink a lot of water) and super friendly. I had been craving their fried artichoke heart appetizers for 20 years and of course, we had to order them. They were good...just not the same as the delicately fried and perfect fried artichokes like the kind we used to get there and at The Velvet Turtle back in the day (!! I'm dating myself). These were more breaded and fried than before. Delicious still, but definitely not the same. The house special is the Prime Rib and I actually had never had that here before. I asked our wonderful server if I should get it and he said, "Absolutely" so I did The Prime Rib was delicious, perfectly rare as I asked, and plentiful. It came with broccoli and a loaded baked potato, jus and horseradish sauce which were all glorious. This ain't your Vegas buffet Prime Rib, for sure. The boy had the NY Strip and loved it. The wife merely ordered the blue cheese and bacon wedge and it was amazing. I actually just finished it off today, five days later. The blue cheese is what that's about. Yum! Like I said, service was impeccable. Cocktails and wine by the glass were fantastic. And as they should, the manager came table to table asking how everything was. High class, all the way. And when we came back to use the restroom after jumping into a random and AWESOME next door shop with comedians (Y Que), we even got to catch a little bit of the awesome live jazz band inside. I went for Valentines day and they were only serving from a set menu around $95 per person, to me it's actually worth it because the portions are bigger than what I would have imagined and there was plenty amount to take home. Minestrone: Better than the Caesar salad. Warm, light with tomato. Caesar Salad: Tastes like any other caesar salad. I loved the topping of sliced cheese grating, it was a nice added touch. Calamari Fritti: Subpar, the breading was light and squid was soft. Nothing new in flavor. But there was a lot of calamari which was Escargot Bourguignonne: Paired with light lemon juice. The escargot was cooked softly. Okay, but not surprising in flavor. Prime Rib of Beef-Medium: I can see why this dish is popular. It dish was huge, despite the cut being so thick, the texture was really tender. New York Cheesecake: Just like a normal cheesecake drizzled with raspberry sauce. I recommend making a reservation considering how packed it got right before the jazz musicians set up. Our server was amazing, attentive and I can't help to mention, gorgeous! There's a dining area which is where you should sit if you plan on eating and enjoying a meal (it gets packed in the lounge area) The lounge area tends to get crowded quickly as everyone wants to be there for the live music and the bar. Old school since 1954. We were hoping to watch the Rams vs Bears football game which started at 330pm but the bar doesn't open until 500pm. When they did open we took two seats at the bar and ordered our drinks. The place was pretty empty at this time so we enjoyed watching the game. The Dresden has the vibe and history, but the food has really slipped into mediocrity the last couple of times I've been. I usually order the salmon, but it's been consistently bland and forgettable. My husband's second attempt at the filet mignon came with a béarnaise sauce that was way too thick, lumpy, and gritty, with a strange chemical taste. It completely lacked the smooth, creamy consistency you'd expect from a proper béarnaise. The steak itself, however, was cooked perfectly medium rare and was excellent. His sides of potatoes and broccoli were just basic. The Caesar salad was another letdown -- very mild in flavor and in desperate need of more lemon and some anchovies to give it that tangy, umami kick that makes a Caesar shine. The escargot was just okay; two shells were completely empty, and the ones that did have something inside were tough to remove. Honestly, I've had better escargot on a cruise ship. Service is usually a highlight here, and our waiter was as nice and friendly as ever, but this time it was slow and dragged the evening out. My husband's martini was even forgotten and didn't arrive until after our food. That said, once the drinks came, they reminded me why people still love this place -- strong, classic cocktails that fit the iconic atmosphere perfectly. Bottom line: come for the cocktails and the old-school vibe, especially with the live jazz, and you'll have a good time. The Calamari Fritti were a nice portion, the frying did not overpower the calamari. The Crispy Artichoke Hearts were a great starter appetizer to have that filled the appetite for those more hungry. The Chicken Piccata was a nice choice for those who enjoy chicken and pasta. The chicken was good but the pasta was exquisite with some cheese grated on top. I was able to sample the pork which was a tad dry and the salmon was juicy. The general ambiance of this restaurant exudes a time decades ago of tender opulence and grace, rich red colored walls and plush white leather seats and tables separated by black pillars for just enough separation. The Dresden is a Hollywood landmark located in Los Feliz and it has been operating for over 70 years, yes you read that right, it all started back in 1954! Recently I had the pleasure of experiencing a great night there for dinner and drinks and then more drinks in the lounge/bar area with some awesome live music. After entering the establishment and facing the small lobby/lounge area, you'll see separate sides to the place. On your right will be the dining area/restaurant side featuring red stained walls, white clothed tables and white leather booths, tall wooden pillars, and awesome light fixtures. On the left is the main lounge/bar area featuring a bar countertop and a bunch of tables where you can also grab a bite; the bar area features live music on Wednesday-Sunday evenings with mostly jazz music. The whole place has a great feel with dim lighting and a perfect classic retro type of feel. Currently the restaurant features a menu offering a mix of American, Italian and French type fare. There are different items/menus for the restaurant side and lounge/bar side. For the restaurant side starters include calamari fritti and escargot bourguinonne, they have soups and salads such as a French onion soup and caprese salad, and main items include items such as prime rib, chateaubriand, chicken piccatta, cacio e pepe and various pasta dishes. The lounge/bar side features soups and salads, various sharables such as mozzarella marinara and baked mac n' cheese, and finally various sandwiches including a angus burger - yes a burger is a sandwich. On the recent visit I had the following: Calamari Fritti - Crispy golden rings and tentacles served with house-made cocktail sauce. A little chewy for my liking but good. Escargot Bourguinonne - Oven baked and served over white wine garlic sauce with bread. Haven't had escargot in awhile and it was really good, loved the bread to dip in the juices. Chateaubriand - 20oz tenderloin, hand carved tableside served with mashed potatoes, parmesan-roasted half tomatoes, button mushrooms, and seasonal vegetables. This was a shared item since really it's too much and in fact it's presented as being for "the table". The meat was extraordinary and so tender that I was able to cut it with a fork. The mashed potatoes were fine and the vegetables were good as well. Vesper Martini - Gin, vodka, Lillet Blanc, lemon peel. Nicely made and delicious. Ordered several negroni's in the lounge/bar area and enjoyed! Service was great both in the restaurant and lounge/bar and on the particular night enjoyed some funk music. Prices are fair and comparable for the type of establishment and to the times. Parking includes metered street parking but also various valet around the back and in a alley. The Dresden is a quintessential LA landmark, featured in numerous films like Swingers and Anchorman. It is a mandatory visit for any LA native and a worth a small detour for anyone looking for a decent steakhouse with great vibes and history. Our group of three went on a Thursday evening. After drinks we started with the Escargot ($18) which were surprisingly dry and flavorless, paired with a garlic bread. Following we shared the Chateaubriand for the table ($125), which was a delectable cut of meat cooked to perfection and paired with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and other veggies. Finishing was the white-out cake ($9) which was fair but somewhat dry. The service was friendly but slow. Our waiter, who was kind, was terribly overworked covering too many tables, and our wait to take our orders and check was longer than expected for a steakhouse. The vibes are excellent. No doubt helped by the dim lighting, the historical, 50s era seating, plush tall furniture, and wooden scaffolding are striking and fitting for such a landmark. There is excellent utilization of vertical space. The space is cozy, perhaps a touch sleazy, but undoubtedly iconic. Perhaps the Dresden is feeling pressured by moderate reviews or a long list of competitors on its street creating challenges in modern times, but the prices are very good, or even inexpensive compared to what I would expect from a historical venue. A full dinner with drinks and dessert came to $65/person, a very reasonable final tally. The Dresden is a landmark worth a single visit to anyone in Los Feliz, or multiple visits for anyone who falls for the vibes and are looking for a well priced dinner in one of LA's hallowed halls of history. Fantastic, and the ex prince with the jazz was cool I was here Saturday night that played till midnight. Good easy jazzy tunes nothing to crazy or more then fundamentals, but chill vibe. It has outdoor seating with privacy walls lined with foax foliage and lights. Ambiance here is vintage elegance. Feel free to dress up if you'd like but the dress code is not strict. This place is small and has 2 separate experiences. The bar side w/ live band entertainment and the dinning side which is more romantic with the dim lighting and small booth seating. We were a party of 8 and it felt a little crammed. Our waiter was very attentive and spot on with the service and gave us plenty of time to peruse the menu. Ordered the Garden salad as a starter, Roasted Eggplant Fettucini, Eggplant Parmigiana, and a side of mashed potatoes. Everything is a pretty filling had to take some home. I took my parents out to dinner at The Dresden the other night and we had a lovely time. The night started off a little rocky, as it took our waiter almost 20 minutes to come and greet us. It got to the point where we needed to ask another staff member for help and she was kind enough to at least take our drink and appetizer orders. I had the "White Lotus" cocktail which was one of the BEST cocktails I have ever had! Such a unique flavor profile. For our appetizers, we had the iceberg wedge salad and fried calamari. Both appetizers were tasty. For my main, I ordered the filet mignon with a baked potato and swapped the bernaise sauce for the au poivre. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium, and was a hefty size. Not to mention only for $46! The au poivre sauce was a nice complement, but the texture was a bit gummy for my liking. The broccoli and baked potato were solid side options. My parents were also happy with their mains. Overall I think The Dresden is a nice place to come to for a solid, predictable dinner. My friends and I visited Dresden for jazz night. We were seated in a booth, and ordered 6 drinks. It took nearly 30 mins to receive our drinks, and half of them were so bad! We mainly ordered cocktails, typically we wouldn't mind heavy-handed drinks but they were basically tall shots. The biggest issue was the wait, and our waitress came to over table a total of 2 times. To take our order, drop it off/ grab the bill. There's a 22% surcharge even if you don't order any food. We don't mind supporting our local bar, but it's likely a one-time visit. read more

In March 2026, my boyfriend and I visited The Dresden for drinks and live music. At the end of our visit, we requested the check but experienced delayed and hostile service. The bartender behaved aggressively, ultimately throwing the bill at us and later shouting profanity ("F*** YOU"). Two additional bartenders approached in an intimidating manner, causing us to feel threatened and concerned for our safety. We reported the incident to the manager, who apologized and provided contact information for the owner. However, repeated attempts to follow up were unsuccessful, raising concerns that the contact information may have been inaccurate or misleading. This incident escalated from a routine request into verbal abuse and intimidation, creating an unsafe environment. We are requesting an investigation into staff conduct, as well as the establishment's handling of the complaint and lack of accountability. Stay away from this hostile dangers bar and venue. read more

The Dresden has always been one of my favorite restaurants. It carries that old-school Hollywood charm and nostalgia -- a really unique, classic vibe that still feels special. This visit, though, was less about the atmosphere (which remains wonderful) and more about the food and service experience. Service We were promptly seated, but it took quite a while for our waiter to greet us and take our order. At first, service felt slow and inattentive -- he even forgot to bring my drink initially. To his credit, he quickly corrected the mistake, and from that point forward, the service was attentive and at a higher, "fine-dining" level. Food Here's where the disappointment set in: * Caesar Salad - Easily one of the most bland Caesars I've had. Just romaine, a sprinkle of cheese, and a weak dressing with zero anchovy flavor. A definite miss. * Escargot - My wife ordered this. The taste was fine, but extracting them from the shells was tricky. She enjoyed it overall, though I'm not much of a fan myself. * Filet Mignon (medium rare) - The steak itself was just okay -- not much depth of flavor. The real problem was the béarnaise sauce: thick, flavorless, and nothing like what béarnaise should be. It came with broccoli (tasted like plain steamed or even frozen), plus a baked potato that was solid, though standard. * Atlantic Salmon - My wife's salmon was similarly underwhelming. Very little flavor, with an average sauce. The sides (mashed potatoes and asparagus) were fine but unremarkable. Overall The Dresden still delivers on ambiance and service (once it hit its stride), but the food was lackluster across the board. In a city like Los Angeles, where similarly priced restaurants offer far more creativity and flavor, the dining experience here feels dated and uninspired. They really need to invest in elevating the kitchen -- from recipes to execution -- if they want the food to match the legacy and atmosphere that make The Dresden such a special place. read more

First came to eat in the Dresden Room over 30 years ago. Again went multiple times in the early 2000's to see & hear Marty & Elayne whose duo singing lounge act was legendary.....Kind of like a Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gormé. 20 years later, I'm dining with friends, and I'm time warped back to a place that never seems to physically change which in this case is a good thing.   Old school mid 20th century restaurant & lounge with impressive pristine, white leatherette boothes & chairs to add a subtle lush sophistication. Spiral black wrought iron chandeliers twisting down like stalactites. Black stained wooden 2x4 lumber beams as vertical accents which seem a bit awkward like a movie set that doesn't seem quite finished.  Waiters are dressed in ties, black vests, white dress shirts which seem to hark back to at least the 1970's if not earlier. Pacific Dining Car, Dal Rae, Taylor's along with Dresden all seem to to convey what typical luxury dining was like when our grandparents were young. Musso & Frank also comes to mind, but that goes back to the late 1910's.  0) Warm Focaccia-like bread soft & moist with mild garlic butter.    1)  French Onion Soup had a comforting, deep beefy broth infused with a sweet onion under tone. Broth soaked, classic piece of toasted french bread. The cheese covering the soup didn't seem to be Gruyère with a more pronounced fermented, dairy Umami, but more like a bubble gum, bland white cheddar. Still a deal at $9.  2) Veal Marsala: Medium thin cuts of white veal lightly sautéed & coated with what may be corn starch thickened sweet Marsala wine & beef broth. Baby artichoke hearts seem bottled & in subtle vinegar. Button mushrooms add a bit of earthiness.  Mashed potato scented with butter was the accompaniment.  1-2a) ANTINORI, "TENUTA GUADO AL TASSO IL BRUCIATO" Tuscany, Italy, 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah varietals blend into a black fruit richness. Blackberry, dark plum, dark chocolate, bit earthy, smooth acidity balanced by fruity sweetness.  Tannin was still a bit strong giving a grittiness on the tongue. Aerating il Bruciato in an oversized decanter would have mellowed out the tannins. My swirling the wine oxygenated it so that by the time I was half way through, the wine acceptably presented itself. 3) Coconut Whiteout Cake: Multilayered soft, plush, dense white cake with thin layer of apricot jam in between along with velvety vanilla custard. Coconut flakes, whipped cream frosting. Spotted by red raspberry syrup.  3a) Regular coffee's bitterness and acidity was a good counter to the richness of the dessert.  We got to Dresden at 5pm on a Saturday and were the first ones there so dinner service by the kitchen was fast. We came into the Dresden for a before dinner drink, and we loved it so much that we came back for a nightcap. At first, we sat in a booth and enjoyed drinks with our family, the interior is very dark and moody when we came back later that night, we sat at the bar and they had live jazz playing. If you love Hollywood vintage this is the spot! The decor in every room is true vintage elegance. The bar area has booths and a piano with old rock walls and red leather couches . The dinner area has beautiful pillars and light fixtures with white leather booth seating. The calamari appetizer is one of the best in the city and the drinks are chilled to perfection. The food is delicious and I guarantee you will want to lick your plate (but don't do it) . The service is personable, professional and on top of our all of our requests and needs. The service was really nice and the ambiance is very chill. I think it's a great small bar for more intimate settings. The drinks are highly priced, but maybe that's the norm in Los Feliz. I'm not there often in that area, so I guess a manhattan is $20 lol. read more

The hostess was pleasant and the space is clean with their lovely white leather (kind of uncomfortable) vintage curved booths. We found the service a little inattentive, and it was not very crowded that evening. As for the food, both steaks were very underseasoned, though perfect medium rare. I found the prime rib surprisingly tough - almost like USDA Select, but it was probably just low Choice. But even worse was the lack of sear on the outside of the slice. A bland hunk of meat. The mash was a big problem: grainy (sign of using baking potatoes instead of a creamier variety) and lacking butter. The asparagus was way under, nearly raw, but at least the broccoli was seasoned (although it tasted boiled/blanched and therefore lacked flavor). Now I understand why The Dresden is much cheaper than the Lawry's restaurants (Tam O' Shanter). The chef's asleep at the wheel, I guess. He ought to have been tasting all this stuff at the pass on a Saturday night. Next time I want prime rib I'll head all the way down to Taylor's: drastically better. read more

Horrible street parking Dark interior Rude af bartender. Didn't acknowledge us or say "I'll be right w/you" like a normal customer service worker would. Nasty cocktails (mai tai & old fashioned). Will never return or recommend. Three stars only for the historical "Swingers" legacy. read more

The Dresden - Nasty drinks - Lounges Near Me - Los Angeles, California

There are few places that compare with the mid-century vibe and decor of the Dresden. Their bar is one of my favorites, and I've spent many an hour there nursing martinis and listening to music (still mourning the loss of Marty & Elayne) or prepping for a movie or book signing down the street. However, aside from the bar menu offerings, I hadn't eaten in the dining room in years. But friends invited me so I thought why not? So glad I did! We started with their very decent friend calamari (which I've had in the lounge), fried artichokes, and escargot followed by a surprisingly good Caesar salad. Then I dove into their lamb chops. The only other place I usually have them is at Musso & Frank and these hold up very well to those. The service was impeccable, and attentive but not intrusive. I may have found a "new" neighborhood regular. read more
