The Instagram promo got to me, and I made the trek out to Los Feliz because I had to find out what their new Wednesday special was all about! They are currently doing "Mid-Week Sip & Sizzle" which includes $20 steak frites and $6 martinis. I went back to check the Instagram ad which just said "$6 martinis" but then you see the menu in person which says "$6 MINI martinis".... Still fun but a very different fun than regular martinis. The benefit of the mini martinis is you can basically built a flight because they are so tiny, and they have multiple flavors available. In the end, I had 3 different mini martinis which comes out to roughly $18 and roughly the size of 1 regular martini. So it's not really a savings, just a fun way to switch it up. The steak frites was decent, but certainly not the best steak I've had in LA. It's more about the fun vibes. We sat outside at the fire pit (which is communal seating) and enjoyed our steak frites, martinis, and Chesapeake Bay oysters! Even though we went for the deal, our meals added up pretty quickly in cost. Luckily, they are also on InKind which helped offset that. read more

I wouldn't know about the food, I could barely defeat the host(ess) boss to be seated. Inside or out? There is a time limit on both tables but a shorter time limit on the outside tables. Okayyyyyy... Great experience celebrating my mom's birthday. I appreciate that they updated their hours on Memorial Day and even offered brunch! The food was delicious and service was great. Was looking for a place for happy hour and decided to check this place out. If you want to park in their lot, you'll have to pay for valet which I think was $10. We were able to find street parking around the corner for free without any issue. Their $6 happy hour beer was a good deal and there were a handful of food/appetizer options on the happy hour menu. The food came very quickly! Fried okra and dipping sauce had a surprisingly spicy kick to it but tasted yummy. The Brussels sprouts was more like a salad with onions, herbs, etc inside. It was actually really refreshing! The disappointing dish was the Santa Maria fries which is filled with queso, black beans, tri tip, avo salsa, and cream. I came in here with a HUGE group of 13 people on Easter Sunday and the staff were SO accommodating to our group. I called ahead to make a reservation and the person on the phone was super kind and made sure everything was perfect. I give them 5 stars based on how accommodating this place is. The restaurant was busy but they got our orders right and drinks came out promptly--the staff was super attentive to the little order details as well. Cute place for brunch. I find parking in this neighborhood to be impossible so thankfully they have valet (and Venmo!). My friends, who are much more patient, were able to find street parking. We had a reservation for as soon as they opened on a Sunday morning so we could choose our seat. There are lots of options... completely indoor, enclosed patio, fire pit! Menu offers many intriguing choices. I think I ordered wrong... my standard breakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes (an absolute mountain of potatoes) and a biscuit subbed for toast was just all right. The biscuit definitely wasn't worth the upcharge. One friend had the shrimp and grits, which I, the only southerner in the group, didn't recognize as any shrimp and grits I've ever seen. But he enjoyed it. Another friend had the Chilaquiles and also enjoyed her meal. We shared the seasonal crisp (blackberry) and that was quite good. Our serivce was very friendly and coffee and drinks were also nice. I think this place has a lot of potential and I would try it again. It wasn't busy so they came right away to take our order. We ordered a few beers. I like that they do have decent beer on the menu, although not a big selection. It's just their draft beers and its one of each type (1 IPA on the menu, 1 lager on the menu, 1 amber on the menu, etc). Afterwards we ordered a burger ($10), a shrimp slider ($3), and the loaded fries ($12). The burger was simple but ok. The shrimp slider was underwhelming. It had one shrimp on a pile of coleslaw. I wouldn't recommend this. The Loaded fries were ok. I would say the burger was the best out of all three. We had another round of beer and heading into the concert. Service is great, and the beer ($6) is also a good deal. The food is ok, I don't know if I would come here for the HH food again. We shared plates including the full portion Cesar, dry rub wings and crispy okra. Overall the food was delicious and as prescribed. If you're an avid Cesar lover, this one does come with avocado. Very yummy. They are known for their BBQ, especially ribs. I will try it on the next visit. Ambiance: American menu restaurant with plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor - with a big bar! SERVICE: Tonight was Fabulous. We showed up without a reservation (and they were busy) but, they were very nice and assured us they would get us in. We only waited about 15 minutes and - sure enough....we got a great outdoor seat. Our server was nice and attentive. FOOD: Also Fab!! We tried a few things and everything tasted very good. The burger is a great choice, but we also had the Messhall Cobb, Tostada, Pulled Pork Sando, and the Mac n' Cheese! (And of course some drinks) - All YUM!! Great place to hang with friends. Came by for the first time the other night for an after work dinner with a friend. Since it's Los Feliz, your parking options are either paying $10 for valet or getting lucky and finding metered street parking. We sat outside by one of the fire pits so we were nice and toasty. We were greeted by our server right away and he was attentive to us the whole meal. My drink was the Pitaya Playa - a tequila-based cocktail with dragonfruit! It was sweet and I could still taste the tequila - a perfect balance. I also opted to try one "Singing Scallop" from the raw bar and it was delicious!!!! Fresh scallop perfectly complimented with the chili vinaigrette and chopped apple. For my entree, I ordered the Mess Burger with a side of fries. Also delicious, but very heavy...I was falling asleep as soon as I got home lol. All and all I did enjoy my experience at Messhall, but I will say that it was a bit on the pricier side. The ambiance is casual and decorated beautifully for the Holiday season. I really loved the bar, it is stocked with some of my favorite additive free tequilas! Would highly recommend trying this. I also was able to try the spicy fried chicken sandwich with brie cheese and thought it was absolutely incredible. All of us are avid Brie lovers, but were wondering if it would work well in the sandwich and thought the cheese worked perfectly with it. We also got the pulled pork sandwich, which was pretty good, but not as great as the other entrées. I will say that the prices are quite high, and I definitely wouldn't come often as it is a little bit more expensive than I feel it should be. However, the quality of the food is pretty incredible and all of the plates had so much flavor which I loved. The servers were also very attentive which we really appreciated. We ended up ending with the gooey brownie and marshmallow ice cream and all of us absolutely loved it. Overall, it was a great experience and we would definitely come back. I believe Messhall used to the be the former Brown Derby location and they've done a great job with it. This is my first time here and wanted to visit for Sunday Brunch. The menu is slim but has a lot of offerings for everyone in your party. As you can see from the photos, the portion sizes were more than expected, especially the pulled pork sandwich. We got an extra side of Carolina BBQ sauce to make it even better! The Cobb Salad with the fried chicken was more than one person to eat so we shared it among three of us. Although the hamburger was not as big as I wanted, it was still thick, juicy and flavorful. Lastly, the chilaquiles was a huge order and also shared. The service was excellent and Jack, was like our second server. Both were very knowledgeable about the menu and had some really good suggestions. The music was straight from my days of growing up in the 80's so it added to the ambiance. They have some great promotions that we will be checking out especially the lunch burger with beer for $12 and the fresh oysters for $1 until they run out.
