Went for a New Year's Eve party. Tickets were around $35 per person. Over all it was a good vibe. They had 2 rooms for dancing and a lot of fun was had. Seemed to be all ages from 21, to an older crowd 55+, which was nice to see all ages come together and have fun. The drinks are very WEAK. And for the price you'd expect more. With that being said, probably best to pre game if you plan to drink or stick to the canned beverages they can't water down. Also parking sucks! The room where comedy shows are held in is intimate (aka tiny). The bar literally takes up 1/3 of the room, the stage is like the size of an apartment kitchen, there is one wall of booth seating and the remainder of the room is sparse seating and standing room. If you don't want to stand for two hours, get in line EARLY and claim your seats. Otherwise, love the venue. I came here to see The Super Serious Show and had a great time! The music was great, the comedians were really entertaining and even though they don't serve food here, there is an tasty taco truck right outside and you can bring food into the venue. The atmosphere was very casual and the music was great with a mix of cumbias and reggeaton. Cocktail prices are decent for a night venue at about $18 for two cocktails, but you get exactly what you pay for. Overall I had a great time. read more

All the reviews about exorbitantly priced drinks are true here. They use incredibly cheap alcohol and the mixed drink cups are microscopic in size and basically all ice. The actual bar itself is fine, but would not come back based on how crazy expensive the drinks are here and the fact that they're basically trying to rip you off. If you do come here for one of their events make sure you pregame at home and drink all your alcohol there so you don't lose an arm & a leg here. read more

New owners kicked out all the cool comedy shows they used to have every weekday, instituted a cover, got rid of happy hour, jacked up the prices of the drinks, and went all-in on dance music. What used to be a gem where you could see some of the most amazing comedy happening in L.A. for a fair price with good drinks has become just another dive bar trying hard to be the next "cool" spot where USC trust fund kids swipe Daddy's credit card without paying attention to the total amount charged. What a fall from grace. Good luck for however long you last before you're sold again or close down for good. Sad to see a place that held so many good memories turn into nothing special. Lit. This place is always lit. Was that too millennial to say? This place is always popping and grooving. It's slow to start, pace picks up at around 11:00 pm, and someone brave enough have to initiate the dance on the floor and it becomes a cascade of dancing and fun. Cocktails are $10 typically, unless you have a boujee mix. I wouldn't go for typical cocktails though, like an old-fashioned or a daiquiri. It's a bar who's main intention is to get people drunk, so there isn't much love in their mixology. If anything, just go for two-part mixes, like a rum-coke, vodka-sprite, gin-tonic kind of deal. They put especially generous amount of spirit. So yes, it's worth. Overall vibe is pretty hip-hop oriented. There are two rooms with two different set of dj's with varying soundtracks. The outside one is more chill, relaxed, and house-vibe sounding. The inside one is hip-hop, beat type of music. So I would say pre-game outside, dance inside, and then chill on the sofas by the side after. Overall a cool club that's somewhat underrated. It never gets lines so it's easy to enter. read more

Pretty cool, divey kind of bar. My friend had suggested this place for drinks. Street parking is pretty easy. Neighborhood is slightly sketch. The best thing about this place is that happy hour goes from 7-9PM, which is usually unheard of! The bartender was super cool and did a good job on drinks. I had the Hothouse cooldown which is Vodka, Cucumber, Lime and was really refreshing. Then I just got a Happy Hour white wine. Generous pours! There's another room where they do events like comedy, but I didn't go into that room. We had drinks and then went outside and got some food from the Mexican food truck. I'm not someone to leave a bad review, but with the way this whole situation transpired I couldn't not express my dissatisfaction with the abysmal service of the staff (specifically the manager) of this facility. I came with a bookbag after work. After my bag was checked, I was told I actually couldn't bring the bag inside... that I would have to leave it outside with the doorman. I wasn't comfortable with this, so I decided I wouldn't stay. Moments later, I noticed the doorman let someone else in with a bag which was admittedly slightly smaller than mine. When I pointed this out, they told me the person was a part of one of the performer's team, which is why they were allowed in with their bag. I told the door attendant and the venue manager that I was dissatisfied with the service and would leave a "shitty review". My voice was not raised... There was most likely annoyance in my tone, but outside of the word "shitty", I did nothing to merit the manager raising his voice, cutting me off, and telling me how I should be "nicer". Essentially resorting to a temper tantrum befitting a child instead of making any effort to address my concern. I don't think the issue was the swear word I used or my tone... It seemed like the manager was lashing out at the fact that I would even insinuate that I was going to leave a bad review... That stating I would leave a bad review was "not nice." it was clear that my attempt to express my dissatisfaction was falling on deaf ears, as the manager doubled-down and made the experience even more offputting and strange. Bummed I spent $30 on my ticket and couldn't get in! I won't be returning to this venue and will make sure all my friends who are performing artists know about this experience when considering the local venues. The issue isn't that I couldn't get in... But rather that the manager seemed more invested in getting into an argument with me, rather than addressing my concern, or explaining their policy around bags. read more

DJ kept playing music that was wayyyy louder than performers in between sets, playing super off putting songs and blasting odd sound affects/ using crazy strobe lights (beware if you have light sensitivity!) too bad because the room is pretty cool. but they really shouldn't charge such a high cover for a monday night showcase of indie artists. and maybe get regular sized cups instead of mini ones. read more

I found The Virgil to be a pretty unwelcoming experience. For starters, I do not live nearby, and have tried calling the Virgil every day for the past week to retrieve a car key that I believe I left inside their facility. Despite leaving a voicemail, they have not once answered their phone or called me back. Very poor customer service, and definitely a disappointment. I'm very thankful I have a spare or I would have been screwed, so thanks to the Virgil staff for that. As to my experience within The Virgil, I'm going to echo the previous Yelper's review and say that The Virgil is a very predatory environment. I felt like men were grabbing women left and right, and just kind of had free reign of the place. I felt incredibly uncomfortable, and sometimes had to quite assertively (with the help of male friends) tell men to f*** off not once, not twice, but multiple times. While this isn't strictly the fault of the club, that's what bouncers are supposed to be for. I felt pretty uncomfortable here, and definitely don't appreciate a groping, aggressive environment. Give me my Pisco and no one gets hurt! Located at the outskirt of Silver Lake where Santa Monica and Virgil intersect is The Virgil. Decorated with stark simplicity on the outside, it is easy to think that there's not much excitement going on at this place...WRONG. The Virgil is chill, relaxed, sexy and almost nonconforming. In a sea of lounges and bars that drowns the atmosphere with loud music and bass, it is a nice change of pace and a relaxed way to enjoy the evening with an ambient sound coming from an old school Juke box. The place is divided into two sections, The smaller lounge area is open most nights, The larger section is open on special evenings, it has a nifty little stage where a live band performs to delight and entertain the patrons, call it your living amuse-bouche a little taste of them goes a long way, a true hors d'œuvre for your listening pleasure. Please check their online calendar to see schedule of upcoming performances, both sections have their own cocktail bar armed with capable bartenders... The Virgil's bartenders are very good, each has their own unique style and take on a certain drink. The Pisco Punch which I have truly enjoyed (my personal fave) has been prepared and served a many times during my visits. Kenny, Aaron & Esther (different nights) served me their take on the drink and each delivered a slightly different tone, flavor & punch, all drinks has the same essence and base flavor but sadly boys Esther has the magic touch- all your drinks were good but hers was exceptional, this is my favorite drink amongst the many in your cocktail list. If you are contemplating to visit The Virgil, I highly suggest going on a Tuesday night, cocktails are $6 all night happy hour!
