I was in the area and randomly stumbled into this GEM! The owner was extremely welcoming and even gave me a few samples of nitro cold brew, espresso shots and I ordered their regular coffee. (I left the place with caffeine overdose) The nitro cold brew was delicious - like having a pint of Guinness. Espresso shots were super strong! For those that need a quick "wake me up" this is for you! Coffee tastes super fresh and the aroma was very pleasing as well. I will be back to try their bahn mi's and gelatos (made in house)!! Decided to go to this Viet-based spot as we haven't been to many Viet places in the boroughs, and being Viet myself I was craving some sense of home. I walked through the door into a clean cafe and was accompanied by a warm smile from the owner welcoming us. We ordered the egg coffee, classic banh mi, and the turmeric fish dish. It's hard to imagine a more perfect sandwich than a well-made banh mi--and you won't find a better one than this.

This place spoils me. John, the owner and his wife Chi are super sweet. I love their egg coffee, the bun rice noodle bowls, papaya salad and vietnamese sandwiches are great (had the pork, and I turned the bartender across the road onto them and she had the tofu which she assured me is also excellent). Sandwiches are huge! I have a gluten sensitivity and they'll make them w/ gluten free bread for you if you bring some in, the portions are huge- the sandwiches are dinner and lunch the next day for me. Plus you can take them to the bar across the street, Marullos, and eat them there :) Word of warning- the kitchen closes at 7pm, even though they close at 8pm but you can order ahead and have food waiting for you to pick up, which is wonderful. They go above and beyond and have made me portable egg coffee so that I can have it for the next morning, in 2 seperate cups with full instructions. Who does this?!? So good. read more

I don't usually leave bad reviews but I must inform the public of the severe food poisoning I experienced after eating here that resulted in my hospitalization for 3 days (6-8 July 2023) and a full week of bed rest. I ate half of their chicken bàhn mi (because the taste wasn't great), and within 1-2 hours I was experiencing the worst food poisoning of my life. The aggressive bacteria drained my electrolytes and made me unable to stand, nearly fainting, and delirious. Luckily, my husband was able to take me to the hospital as I could not even dial 911 by myself. The doctors at NY-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital told us that the chicken from the bàhn mi was contaminated with Staph bacteria (Staphylococcus) which is typically a skin infection but can cause extremely severe food poisoning if ingested. I'm a young very healthy woman in my late 20s and this put me down for a week. I have now recovered but I'm deeply traumatized and will never be going to that place ever again. I'm sorry for the cafe to have to report this, but the reality is this is extremely dangerous and they need to asses their suppliers or food prep. I hope this helps avoid people experiencing what I did. read more

I was so excited when this spot opened up in Brooklyn Heights as there aren't many authentic Vietnamese places in the neighborhood - have been here a few times already and every visit has been wonderful! My husband and I love the banh mis (classic and chicken are our faves) and the Vietnamese coffees (bold just the way we like it). I stopped by Diem Eatery on a great recommendation and was happy I did! I had the chicken banh mi and you could taste the freshness in the ingredients. Along with the viet espresso was a great mix for a great lunch. Of course I had to top it off with a scoop of their homemade gelato (both hazelnut and vanilla were amazing!). One of the best banh mi sandwiches I've ever had. Came in on a whim and had the tofu sandwich - the bread was so fresh and delicious, the jalapeño spread was full of flavor and the garnishes were perfect. My partner had the turmeric fish noodle bowl - freshly made, piping hot and very interesting with the dill. Both entrees were SO SO good. The reason for minus one star - which I would have preferred to give 4.5 - is that there is no option for a rice bowl instead of noodles. I think this would be an easy fix and a way to include those who are gluten free. Another recommendation would be a shrimp or fish banh mi. I stumbled in without any expectation of the cuisine but seeing empty tables at lunchtime and an eager looking staff, I ventured in. Diem was the highlight of my day. Ordered the tumeric fish bun without really any idea of what might eventually finds its way to my table. I saw the chef chopping fresh herbs and cooking a fresh piece of fish for my modestly priced meal. While I waited I was offered some dynamite vegan gelato. Enjoyed a first class cup of Joe. Wish i could give a review on the Food, except i never got what i ordered. This past sunday(8.6.23) i walked in and ordered an ice coffee and chicken banh mi(please note) from the women at the counter. I pay and even tip. I get my ice coffee and was told the order will take a min. 30 mins later while everyone got their food, i have still not gotten my sandwich. I walk to the counter and asked the gentleman(the woman was gone) the status of my order. Two mins later i get my sandwich and notice it is the classic pate/pork. Not that i am strict kosher but i do not eat Pork. The gentleman at the counter told me that i should of checked the screen when i ordered before i paid in addition to telling me that the woman whom I ordered with finished her "Last shift" and was fired(obviously not because of my order). He refused to even offer to make the chicken Banh mi( i would of waited) and blamed me for the mis-order. And even when i said do not eat pork, gave me an attitude for no reason. In the end, i was refunded for my sandwich, despite the individual threatening to not refund me because "i was giving an attitude". I stopped by this delightful new eatery on Atlantic after months waiting anxiously for something new two blocks from home. I wasn't disappointed. The staff is very friendly and the menu has something for everyone. We tried the noodle salad and the Vietnamese sandwich and both were delicious. The selection of ice cream was beautiful. We will definitely come back for that. The ambiance is so simple and cozy. Other patrons were equally positive. It's a terrific place to hang out with a friend for coffee or lunch or for takeout.
