Iced Adeni Chai/Shai. $7. A bit lighter spiced than most maybe due to the amount of milk. OK/Good

This is one of the many Arabic coffee (or qahwah) and tea (or chai/shai) shops popping up all over the city with this one being Yemeni as per most others. They opened up rather recently and the staff inside is nice and there is plenty of space with the spot extending pretty far back from the small looking front with some nice comfortable chairs. I was here twice where once I ordered an adeni chai (or shai) and once, I ordered a muffawar (or mufawaar/mufawar) which I didn't photograph. The Adeni Chai which is $7 for an iced version is by comparison to other spots a bit cheaper though it is a bit less spiced in terms of the usual cardamom and cloves. There was a good amount of milk in there so perhaps the spices would have been stronger with lighter milk also. I preferred it slightly over the chain Moka Cafe which is opening up soon on Smith but found it worse than Ruhani which is a bit different as it's Pakistani and the chai is a bit stronger as well as some other spots which have a comparative price point but it was decent. The Muffawar was also pretty good with the coffee being well roasted. Both were adequate and I would have stopped here more often before moving. In short, the coffee and tea here are a bit cheaper but the spices by comparison are lighter. This would be a good introduction to Arabic coffee/tea but it's not my personal preference as if I am going to pay more for Arabic coffee and tea, I prefer a stronger flavor. Mid 3.

I stopped in to kill some time on a late Tuesday morning and had a lovely time. The space is bright and welcoming, with more room to it than you'd think from the street. I'm very new to Yemeni coffee, having only been one other time, so I was curious to see what their menu offered. Not wanting to risk ordering the wrong thing, I asked the man at the register what their signature coffees were. He pointed to the sanaani and muffawwer options. I asked his favorite, and he directed me to the muffawwer, which is prepared with condensed milk. I ordered it hot, but got it iced. That aside, the muffawwer was delicious. I could taste so much flavor and fragrance from the coffee, more than what you get at a standard coffee shop. The coffee is so flavorful and without bitterness that you could mistake it for tea. I'd suggest anyone give Yemeni coffee a try, even those who'd say they aren't coffee drinkers, because it's so good. The staff was nice and attentive, which is always a plus. They haven't been open very long but I can see them gaining popularity in this area.

This was my first time here and I let the server know. She suggested the items I was very happy with her suggestions. The shop is beautiful, clean and was a nice place go sit for a while. It's decorated with such a pleasant aesthetic . I didnt take much photos of the decor because I didnt want to include innocent patrons but trust me it's beautiful. From the front door view it appears there are only a few tables but once you walk past the cashier there are more seats around the corner. Spacious bathroom. The Adeni chai I had was so good- fragrant spices and it was hot to the last drop. The honeycomb bread was delicious- filled with slightly sweet cream cheese and drizzled with quality honey and sesame seeds. Delectable. There's a great variety of other pastries and savory items. After you pay they give ypu a buzzer to return to the counter to pick up your meal. I will definitely be back to try other items and of course the Yemeni coffee.

Go here for a coffee shop to work at late, and lots of seating. The coffee is nothing special but it works.

Delicious Yemeni coffee - so aromatic someone asked me what I was drinking in my cup as I was sitting with my to-go cup!

People have left some odd reviews of this place, including a one-star review for the restaurant…read moreapparently being highly politicized--a vibe I neither felt nor could visually identify within or without the establishment. I ordered a single burger and a Sudan spiced peanut butter latte, for ~$15! That's pretty inexpensive for New York City. I note this as some consider it overpriced. I suppose the food is fairly inexpensive, the lattes slightly higher than average. The "burger" comes wrapped in a homemade pita with diced cucumber, onion, and tomato, plus a few crispy, thick-cut fries and a yummy house sauce. It was a cool twist of the traditional burger and had a nice flavor. The sauce was like a slightly Mediterranean version of Big Mac sauce. The girl working as the barista and cashier was very nice and friendly. She had a nice presence and warm smile, made suggestions, and even gave a stranger free utensils when they popped on to ask. I think it's definitely worth checking out, and it's a good place for a cheap & simple meal that's still quirky and fun.

I have wanted to try this spot for some time, and wound up a bit disappointed with what I tried…read more They feature a tahini cold brew, which features two things I love dearly, but instead of a rich cold brew it was overly sweet and icy--more like a slushie. Perhaps I should have anticipated that, or my mistake in ordering. I also ordered a Moroccan egg salad sandwich which was substantive but surprisingly bland--sparse with the advertised capers and pickled red onions to give it more punch. I've always loved the look of the spot and the vibe--funky decor, outside and indoor facing counters to order, with some outdoor seating for people watching on Dekalb or heading nearby Ft. Greene Park. I see they are renovating and rebranding a bit and adding some burger component. While I didn't love it, I'd definitely give it another shot.
