The vanilla ice cream was decent. It was salted a bit heavier than I preferred but overall not bad. The gelato itself was good for a few bites but eventually got flavor fatigue and generally felt too sweet. So far it's been an okay experience and I'm still open to trying their other flavors.
I have a sweet tooth and couldn't wait to try this place. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and was greeted. Melanie served me and she was nice. I tried a bunch of ice cream flavors and I went with: - Cookie au lait with brownie bites oreo chunk whipped cream - Death by Chocolate Hot Chocolate (marshmallow fluff, Graham crackers, Chocolate drizzle and gold flakes) I really loved the ice cream and the hot coco was good but super sweet for the sweet lovers. All in all I had a good experience!
I had a great experience here! The lady who helped me was so patient and lovely to speak to. She let me try all the flavors I wanted. I ended up getting a flight ($10) which comes with 6 flavors. - ooey gooey butter cake: I actually really enjoyed this one. I liked that it came with cake bit. My favorite flavor. - peppermint bark: I love anything mint and I liked how this one had bits of peppermint bark - strawberry: I needed a simple flavor to accompany everything else I got but didn't finish it. - chocolate milk and cookies: this was a lot of chocolate, but in a good way. But still a lot so be warned..... -oatmeal lace: this was probably my second favorite. I personally love oatmeal raisin cookies so no brainer that I enjoyed this one. - cookie au lait: I liked this one but the coffee flavor got old after awhile. This is less coffee than the espresso flavor though. I would definitely come back if I was in the area.

Love Spell- I'm not a hot chocolate lover but this was superb 10's across the board. The place is spacious. And outside of Valentines day their icecream is great as well. Service can be a hit or miss. Sometimes the staff looks irritated.

Ice cream is one of my favorite treats so I was curious to try Ample Hills Creamery. I just finished a workout (don't judge me!) and decided to check them out. It wasn't crowded. An employee asked if I like oatmeal, which I do.--he let me sample the oatmeal lace. I really enjoyed it and decided to get the small size. I didn't realize that it comes with two ice cream options. I chose to get the cookies n' cream. Both ice creams went well together--for me anyway. The service was good and I want to go back and try other flavors. They also have vegan flavors.
I revisited the social for the first time in years this evening and yes, it was just in fact as fantastic as I remember. As many reviewers mention, I fell in love with this ice cream back when it existed under another name and was disappointed to notice the drop in quality in that *brand who will not be named.* Imagine my delight when I learned the original purveyors of the best ice cream in Brooklyn rebranded and opened. Go here. Get a scoop of anything (I like the oatmeal lace) and experience transcendence. Also, the prices are super reasonable compared to other North Brooklyn scoop shops.
Stopped here after a nice walk at prospect park. It was a drizzly day around 4pm and the place was empty except for 2 customers and 2 workers. I was unsure of what to get but landed on a orange milkshake and a coffee cookies and cream milkshake. The coffee milkshake was really good and tasted like having a coffee flavored slushie. The orange milkshake was delicious with a fun fruity taste in milkshake form that ive never had before but will definitely have again. The place itslef was quiet calm and clean. And the workers were friendly and happy to help.

The staff was very friendly and took the time to explain everything to me. I saw the death by chocolate advertisement on Instagram and had to come right away. It was definitely worth my visit. I was surprised to see if they had a play area for the children and they even had a game room that had lots of family games. We played jumbo Jenga, tic-tac-toe, pinball and many other games. It was such a relaxing and fun environment, much more than I expected. I will definitely return in the future and you should too!
Came by on one of the hotter summer days in desperate need for something cold. There aren't as many flavors in person as they had on their website. I really wanted a mint chip-esque flavor, but I settled getting the strawberries and cream and the cookie au lait. I thought the flavors of each of the ice cream could be bolder. The cookie in the coffee ice cream was very much on the sweeter side for me, so I wanted a bolder, more bitter coffee taste. The strawberries and cream wasn't that sweet which I preferred, but it wasn't strawberry forward either. It's not the creamiest ice cream I've had. I loved that they let you get two different flavors with any size. I ended up getting a kids size which was more than enough for me. The space is enormous, and it really seems like it's meant for kids given the vibrant colors.
Spacious, friendly, plenty of flavors, ample outdoor seating and even Lactaid pills! What more could you want from an NYC ice cream spot? They have some classics like chocolate fudge, and also very innovative flavors like the Paris (tastes like a jam croissant) and mallow (ice cream version of cotton candy and marshmallow). Prices are a little high at $6 for a small with 2 scoops, but not significantly more than other gourmet ice cream spots. Skip the ridiculous lines at Van Leeuwen, this spot is a winner!
The spot is on the corner of the block and there are plenty of indoor space to sit down. They have very different exotic smash of flavors. I decided to get two large cups which you can get 3 scoops of flavors each. They docnot have everything listed on the menu though. The time we went, there were no donuts available either. Morning in Paris - butter croissant ice cream with raspberry jam - can def taste the jam but not butter croissant Banana pudding - banana flavor was bold and came out really good. You can taste pieces of nilly wafers too Chocolate cookies - chocolate ice cream mixed with big pieces of oreo.. taste like cookies and cream but with chocolate instead Chocolate flake - chocolate ice cream with pieces of chocolate, I believe it tastes like flat/non crispy wafer that is stale Coffee flake - coffee ice cream with chocolate flakes - coffee was not as strong as I thought it would be but still good. Marshmallow pop - marshmallow flavor ice cream with rice crispy - not too sweet with a good change if texture of the crispiness
A solid ice cream place but I think it falls flat compared to the original Ample Hills flavors, which was my favorite ice cream store. The ooyer and gooyer was good but I miss the chunks of butter cake. The pecan pie crumble was good as well but the crumbles were a bit too hard compared to the ice cream - it was maybe my favorite but still a notch below my favorite flavor of Salted crack caramel. The strawberry we got just as a contrast, but it was a little too tart for my taste.

This place is like dopamine in a shop! So vibrant, fun and inviting! The perfect 3rd space for family and friends! The flavors are inventive, like devils chocolate (spicy chocolate), spicy mango with tajin, choco fudge, pistachio hazulnut, marshmallow etc. the service is good and let you try 2-3 samples each, and every sample we tried was amazing! We ended up getting the medium, 2 scoop choco fudge and hazelnut pistacio with coke for $11. So creamy and delicious. Went straight to the heart! The interiors are so vibrant and bright! They've got fun decor and a beautiful mural of everyone in Brooklyn having ice cream. Highly recommend! read more

Staff were really nice and encouraged us to try the flavors. I love that this place always has new and interesting flavors. Love the interior. Super family friendly or even a cute date night stop with your partner. They have multiple locations which is such a plus and ice cream tastes like it was made with love. read more

I seriously love this ice cream shop! The flavors are delicious and rotate based on season, etc. The shop itself is a great size with nice outdoor space too to hang out and bring kids. This is some of the best ice cream I've had in Brooklyn and the business is family run and has a great story behind it. Super fun place to bring the family and will be back! The ice cream itself is great and rivals some of the other spots in the city and in my opinion is better. Quick and easy ordering at the counter. read more
Prospect Heights is lucky to have so many stellar ice cream shops in the neighborhood - perhaps the ice cream capital of Brooklyn?? There's Blue Marble, Ample Hills, Van Leeuwen, and now The Social. After my most recent visit to The Social, I might have to award it with being the best in the neighborhood. The creaminess and richness is truly next level. Their flavors are inventive and all delicious (perhaps even a bit overwhelming the number of options). The place was started by the original Ample Hills owner/creators - they are ice cream pros, and it really shows. It's a beautiful, high ceiling space. There are some tables inside as well as outside. If you're visiting the museum or neighborhood and craving ice cream, this has to be a must stop. I promise you won't be disappointed! read more
Such a cute dessert spot! Unfortunately there weren't any donuts left which means we'll have to come back to have some! I wanted to try to donut sundae but since there were no donuts we got a pint of the peppermint and pb ice cream to go. A pint is $10 vs a $7.95 large. read more

I openly gaped at the rise and fall of the massive ice cream empire the wide eyed and seemingly naive purveyors of the much loved Ample Hills built. From their humble Brooklyn storefront to their Disney partnership to their Red Hook playground and ultimately their bankruptcy and sale for just $1 million to a steel manufacturing company, I followed their journey like the superfan that I was. I, like Oprah, and Disney chief executive officer Bob Iger, instantly fell in love with the ice cream as soon as I got a taste. I love ice cream with texture, and Ample Hills never held back. You could find potato chips, candy bars, Greek pastries in their scoops and it always worked. That paired with their fun flavor names and high quality cream always ensured a sensory overload of an experience in the best way. When the pair sold Ample Hills, they vowed to return with a new venture, and when they announced The Social, a generic sounding name, I was really curious about what they had up their sleeve. Entering The Social feels so much like Ample Hills 2.0, with a very similar playful feel, fun flavor names, and lots of textures and ingredients in their ice cream to match. There is nary a mention of their history, except for an opaque nod to the source of the name of their former business, from Walt Whitman's poem "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry" framed on a wall in the shop. "I too lived, Brooklyn of ample hills was mine, I too walk'd the streets of Manhattan island, and bathed in the waters around it" Which is all to say, they know the recipe to their success and are drawing from the same playbook. Hopefully with wiser financial decisions, because we love ice cream like this, and can't wait to return to try the rest of their menu. read more

A friend recommended this spot to us and I'm glad we had time to stop by on our latest trip. We tried: - Morning in Paris - Ooyer & Gooeyer - Breakfast with Nonna D. & Poppy - Vanilla New Fashioned Egg Cream I wasn't a huge fan of the Morning In Paris Ice Cream, but I loved the other two flavors. Ooyer & Gooeyer was my favorite. I'd definitely come back here - there were many more flavors I was interested in trying. read more

When the best, small batch, craft ice cream maker in Charlotte recommends trying ice cream, one should listen and act accordingly and so I did. My wife and I sampled several of their flavors and ending up loving Morning in Paris, Ooyer & Gooeyer, and Breakfast with Nonna D. & Poppy. They have flavors for anyone and everyone. Plus the staff are very friendly and helpful. Give it a try! read more

As a longtime fan of Ample Hills, I was really happy to see The Social come to life with a new mission and several new flavors. The staff are always kind and generous with samples, and there's so much seating available. There is even a little play kitchen for the children too and an extra room with a pinball machine. The Social also has doughnuts and fluffwiches (their version of a whoopie pie) as well if you're not in the mood for their fantastical and whimsical ice cream. Amazing neighborhood spot, and worthy a visit! read more
I have been looking forward to trying The Social since the day I found out that they were going to open! I am a HUGE Ample Hills fan (a hillionarie to be exact) and had high expectations for The Social. My expectations were definitely met! Here is what we had: 2 homemade donuts - one cookies and cream, one cinnamon sugar A double scoop with Breakfast with Nonna D and Poppy, and Ooeyer and Gooeyer. The donuts were soft and fresh, and served warm if you like. The warm donut is the way to go. I was hoping to try the chocolate donuts, but they did not have any when I was there. The donuts were very tasty! I loved the ice cream! It is filled with mix ins and is creamy. There are so many flavors to choose from which makes it very difficult to choose. They allow samples and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast with Nonna D and Poppy is maple syrup and donut infused ice cream with pieces of Nonna D's oatmeal cookies. Ooeyer and Gooeyer is ooey gooey butter cake infused ice cream filled with chunks of the ooey goey butter cake and caramel ribbons. Both were SO GOOD! I wish they would offer the ice cream flights because I would have eaten one of those to try more than the 2 flavors. The atmosphere of The Social is so cute with the 70's retro theme. It is obvious how much effort and thought Brian and Jackie put into their new ice cream shop. Basically, if you haven't tried The Social, you need to. I look forward to eating more donuts and ice cream next time I visit Brooklyn! read more

A solid ice cream shop with plenty of space to spare! I came in during one of the first warm days this year, so as expected, the line was nearly out the door. While there were plenty of people vying for the few booths available, we were able to snag once since customers rotate out fairly quickly (ice cream does tend to be a quick snack...) I had the Butter Pecan Pie Crumble and the Strawberries and Cream. Both flavors hit the spot, and were full of sweety, creamy goodness. With games located at the booths, soaring ceilings, and unique flavors, The Social is one of those rare local ice cream spots that feels like more than just an ice cream shop -- it's a unique community hub. read more

The social is a resurrection of ample hills (RIP). The same owners have managed to bring back their signature Gooey Butter Cake ice cream and rebrand it as Ooeyer and Gooeyer. I'm a girl who loves novelty flavors, and The Social delivers scrumptiously. A few of my favorites are morning in Paris (croissant flavored ice cream with raspberry jam swirl), banana pudding (a banana ice cream with banana laffy taffy potency studded with nilla wafers), oh captain my captain (Cap'n crunch and fruity pebbles ice cream). If you're not into that, no worries, they do fancy remixes on the classics. Their cookies and cream ice cream uses hydrox cookies (the OG Oreo), and their peanut butter has a malty, salty pretzel flavor and chunks of peanut butter cups. Their coffee ice cream is a little cinnamon-y with crunchy toffee pieces. If you're into the plain weird flavors, you'll lose your shit when I tell you that they made a bacon egg n cheese ice cream. I ate a full serving and felt one of my coronary arteries occlude. This place is expensive. They occasionally have samples of their cookies. Overall, I'm a happy patron read more
I scream, you scream, we ALL scream for ice cream.. and where will you run to? The Social. Located in one of the hipper avenues in Brooklyn, Washington Avenue. Stopped by for a quick body A/C, helado mucho frio! The Social serves premium ice cream courtesy of the Hudson Valley, yes, you'll be paying $7.75 for 1 scoop to slurp the creamiest cream from Upstate NY. The Social serves unique ice cream concoction thus if you are in the mood for a butter croissant baked fresh from the boulengerie from Paris, forget the $500 airfare and order Morning in Paris. MIP consists of flaky butter croissants accompanied with raspberry jam! Viva La France! There are toppings from sprinkles to fresh whipped cream. There are also donut sundaes, milk shakes and affogato. I ordered my usual cheat*: Vanilla Bean in a cup with chocolate sprinkles.I asked to taste it first to sample the texture, it was primo. ( I dined Al fresco in their Adirondack chairs complete with fake lawn!) The Vanilla Bean is a combination of Madagascar and Mexican with cream sourced from Hudson Valley. It tastes like the cow just delivered the cream! Yes, that creamy! Interior of The Social has booths, pinball machines and older kids ..they serve alcohol!!! Woo hoo! Since this is my first visit on a steamy Sunday soupy afternoon, it wasn't mobbed with screaming kids. But if you want silent ice cream dining, then Al fresco is highly recommended. All in all, this is one Social call you won't mind making! * I see you noticed my asterisk on cheat well here's my definition: The Yankees slaughtered the Boston Red Sox in their last 2 outings. I screamed my lungs out and needed something to cool my lungs. Thus, I cheated and consumed vanilla bean ice cream. Blame it on Judge and Carpenter. There!!!!! Also, the founders of The Social, own Ample Hills Creamery. AH opened its first scoop shop in Prospect Heights. I consumed many scoops of AH at their now defunct location in Gowanus. read more
The Social was AMAZING. I came here for an event and was pretty skeptical of the dessert- a flufferwich. I love my sugar, but the thought of two whoopie pies and a scoop of icecream in the middle sounded like an overload. Spoiler alert- it was, but in all the best ways. I ordered the Banana Pudding Whoopie Pie, which was essentially two huge vanilla wafer cookies. These cookies were dense and had the texture of soft pound cakes with a crispy edge. I'm not sure if I tasted the banana pudding fluff (maybe it was removed?) but the cookie itself was fantastic. I also got a scoop of their banana pudding icecream in the middle, which was creamy and full of banana flavor. It had chunks of nilla wafer wedged inside, and it was a great balance to the cookies. To top it off, there was a dollop of whipped cream. Definitely a sweet treat, but a really yummy one. I would love to come back and try some of the others- eyeing the snickerdoodle fluffwich and the fun flavors of icecream I didn't try this time (there was even a croissant infused one) read more
A MUST see in Brooklyn. This shop was hyped by many others and my god, it deserves it. The staff was fast and efficient in giving us the perfect scoop and all the taste tests. The interior is very chill and friendly, with a giant mural or the city of Brooklyn on the walls featuring people of all backgrounds, it wasn't surprising to me that it's owned by former public school teachers. The "Oh Captain, My Captain!" was a captivating take on a cereal themed ice cream. It blew my mind how much it tasted like Captain crunch, the best breakfast cereal. The "Banana Pudding" was TOP TIER banana ice cream with bits of bills wafers incorporated... chefs kiss. The "Morning in Paris" was so indulgent and buttery tasting with just the right amount of sweet and tart jam. Delicious! I could go on about all the flavors we tried, but I think it's best to say, please just go. read more
Best ice cream I've had in years. I got Ooeyer & Gooeyer and Butter Pecan Pie Crumble. Both absolutely delicious, though I would buy a flight to Brooklyn just to get that Ooeyer & Gooeyer, it was amazing. It's filled with dense butter cake chunks and caramel and I still dream about it. read more
