It was so hot. Felt like 100 degrees at 3:30pm that I couldn't resist trying the ice cream here. No fuss. Very old school and prices are reasonable. The server was quick and friendly. Small interior with no where to sit. Just take out the ice cream and you're good to go! read more

This is a pretty solid neighborhood place to get water ices, cream ices or ice cream, pretty much anytime and in an array of flavors. I usually go with the creamsicle or the lemon as they are my favorite flavors. The serving sizes are pretty large and you can mix flavors on the larger sizes period stop by and have a try! read more

This unassuming ice cream storefront has some great soft serve and ice cream. I always stop by to get my fix whenever I am in the area. My favorites are the coffee and cheesecake ice cream flavors but they have a long list of flavors to try. Service was nice and fast so that was appreciated. They also have milkshakes and floats which I will definitely try on my next visit. read more

Taste really really artificial I threw it out. It's just a summer late night thing but I'd skip it next time. Staff was extremely helpful and sweet. We're provided many samples before picking the peach. read more

Terrible ambiance, harsh lighting, slow slow slow service. Mediocre ice cream. Dirty floor.

Great, fast service through the window. I tried a small scoop of cheesecake ice cream and it was delicious. It was smooth and delicious. No unnecessary graham cracker pieces or anything dumb. Just a simple ice cream with real cheesecake flavor. I appreciate that there's a smaller size that anyone can get, not just kids. read more

Uncle Louie G - Two face chocolate & vanilla yogurt with colored sprinkles - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

This is my go to summer dessert place in Gowanus. They have an extensive dessert menu from ices to ice cream and shakes. I always get the cherry ices: love the bits of cherries mixed in and after a hot day nothing is as refreshing as a cold shaved ice. However, after my lobster roll soirée at Luke's I was in the mood for something decadently sweet( I've had this sweet craving since earlier in the day at Rockaway Beach) After scanning the menu I spotted the Shake menu and went for the Blackout: a delicious concoction of vanilla ice cream, chocolate brownie pieces topped with whipped cream and a cherry( I told them to hold off on the whip as if that would make it less fattening) My first sip was heavenly;just the right balance of vanilla and chocolate. The service is always fast and friendly. Uncle Louie is definitely the sweet spot for the Summer! read more

Cute little icie and ice cream spot in the neighborhood. If you check in on Yelp and show them the check in they will give you a discount. They have an order counter outside so you can order from either inside or outside. Ordering outside is nice since you can skip the trip indoors. They have so many different icie flavors so it is refreshing to try different ones here that are different from the icie carts on the street. If you want to taste something, they will let you have a small sample of it. The prices are definitely higher than the street icie carts but the quality and flavors are better. The air conditioning inside is not that strong so it may not be a good place to escape a very hot day. read more

Can we give lower stars ... owners need to check his employee's. Rude and telling me what they where not going to serve us. Store closes at 11 I was there at 10:15 on a Saturday night, she said they where closed and wouldn't serve us. Finally served us with an attitude and only what she felt like giving us. Asked for milkshakes nope not doing that.... No covers for the ices no bags Unreal. And I'm not the type to give reviews but this was ridiculous. read more

You'd think I'd learn not to wolf down ice cream like an animal to prevent brain freeze, but I didn't and especially after suffering through the heat at Bonnie's Grill, this too seemed like brilliant idea #2. Only three things can appease me from the heat: 1) an open fire hydrant 2) beer 3) spumoni Being I already did 1 & 2, option 3 looked pretty awesome. Scooping my large spumoni, I thought things couldn't get any better! But then my friend stood next to me with the sundae that could possibly cure blindness or cause it - a brownie with cookie dough ice cream, whipped cream, hot fudge, rainbow sprinkles (yeah I felt totally radical), and chocolate ice cream buried below. $5 worth that couldn't be finished one man alone; so I sure as hell flipping helped! I'd totally go again to watch the poor guy behind the counter struggle with spraying the whipped cream. Guy: I'm shaking it really hard and nothing's coming out guys! Girl: C'mon you can shake it harder than that! If not, grab a new one. Guy: Guys I can't! I think you're tricking me you guys! Guy #2: I never had a problem! Take this convo out of context and it's like an old script from a Porno. You're spumoni makes me go mmmmmmmm. read more

Uncle Louie, I just wanted to tell you that your Mucho Mango Italian ice is one of my most favorite things. And when you add a scoop of Viva Vanilla Ice Cream- things just get crazy delicious. Fun Italian ice $4 kid size. It's like a thicker form of an icee, and smooth fine shaved ice with flavored by syrup (more uniformly flavored than a snow cone). Great for a hot and humid day. Careful not to get it in your clothes like I did because had to rush to a sink to get that out asap! read more

Credit card customers beware! I visited this location twice in the past month. Both times I paid with my credit card, and both times my credit card was charged more than the sale amount. I always tip in cash, and I wasn't offered a receipt. It's not worth the effort to contact the bank for $4, but I think this is a very shady business practice. I called uncle Louie's once I realized, but they were unable (or unwilling) to help read more

Save your money don't go here! Beyond rude employees. I gave this place 2 tries. First girls were extremely rude but figured maybe an off night we have them. 2nd time about a month later two different girls also rude and acted as if we were bothering them by trying to get an ice cream cone, then the sad little portion I wish I took a photo I think I was in too much shock to the point I laughed out loud that she charged me $7 for it. I asked for a chocolate soft serve with rainbow sprinkles.. There wasn't even a full swirl of ice cream and about 10 sprinkles on it. At that point if you hate your job that much quit but you are ruining a business. It's very sad when an owner has no idea the reputation their employees are leaving for their business. Definitely go elsewhere!! read more

I came here with my daughter on a very hot day. It's a simple ice cream shop that also has a window you can order from. They have so many ice cream flavors and Italian ice flavors. They did only have one person working the day I went. But he was moving pretty quickly so no complaints. They also do offer toppings like sprinkles, gummy bears, etc. For those who prefer soft serve they have vanilla or the chocolate/vanilla swirl. I would definitely return to try a different flavor. read more

They Scream for Ice Cream & Uncle Louie Showed up. If you're walking down 5th Ave and you have kids with you shield their eyes from the huge line or you'll end up buying a scoop or two. I'm going to have to return and update my review for their ice cream. The kids outside told me that the Mango ice was the best.. I've had amazing ices before and it was good but no where near the stuff I had at a little spot in Chicago. I prefer Gino's Italian ice. Uncle Louie's was smooth, and the flavor was good, but it seemed a little icy and needed more syrup/flavor. Uncle Louie G - $2.00 Italian Ice in the Small Cup - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Now this is real ice cream! Or real Italian ice. Whichever way you prefer it. Being almost a New York staple, you see these Uncle Louie G's pop up all over the place. Also, its a dangerous temptation two blocks from my gym on the way to the train. Though, I think this specific check in is for the one on Union Street. I haven't tried nearly even a good chunk of the flavors they have to offer. But from what I have tried, the peanut butter chocolate Italian ice is fantastic. I also was pretty impressed with the Holy Cannoli. There are an endless amount of options and the small cup is the perfect amount of decadence to beat the heat. read more

I have never had an ice flavor here that wasn't totally delicious. Great little ice cream spot on Union. You can pay with credit card for purchases greater than 5 dollars. If you are like me and want a place to swing by while walking the pup, this is your place! They have a window off the side you can order and pay from. There is also an atm machine right there next to the window if you choose to use it. Across there are two trees with metal benches to sit and enjoy your ice cream. The Brooklyn bridge was delicious, not overwhelmingly decadent. It has cookies and cream ice cream and chocolate fudge brownie with strawberries pineapple whipped cream, hot fudge and sprinkles (I did chocolate of course). Just what I needed after a fun filled afternoon just a few blocks away at prospect park! read more

I think this place is accurate to its 4-star Yelp review. I ordered a Passion Fruit size small, which was about two large scoops, and the flavor and consistency was both better than your average Italian ice. There are lots of fun flavors like My Honey Doo, Soprano Spumoni, and NYPD Blue, and even a few sugar-free options such as SF Lemon or Chocolate! The venue was clean, cute, had enough space on a Sunday afternoon (but I could see it getting tight during busy hours), and even outlets by the walls to give your phone a quick recharge! The best part was, I received 20% off automatically from checking in (thanks, Yelp!) Don't forget to check in when you come! read more

You might notice many of the positive reviews see from previous years. This summer's crop of employees has been subpar at best. Like one of the other yelp posters, I made the mistake of paying with my credit card and tipping in cash. The employee never offered a receipt and took it upon herself to give herself an additional tip. I'm sure the kids assume no one will make a big stink over $2. So buyer beware. Pay in cash if you can and if you use your card, insist on a receipt. read more

5 stars for the 5 chins i've gained since learning of uncle louie G's jkjk but this stuff is amazing. much more than your typical italian ice and you can't hate on their selection of flavors. i'm still not sure why they have both a 'peanut-butter chocolate chip' and 'chocolate chip peanut-butter' but i love them for it. i wish my uncle was as cool as louie G. read more

Uncle Louie G's makes the best chocolate ices in New York--rich, dark, and semisweet, putting the watery, light brown concoctions sold in pizzerias and on street corners to shame. They offer a cornucopia of flavors, ranging from cantalope to candy. It's also open pretty late, making it a great stop after a night out. read more

One of the best Italian ices! You've gotta try this if you haven't already done so. It does not beat Ralph's, but I definitely recommend this place. Lots and lots of unique flavors to choose from, and it is especially gratifying during a hot summer day. Order your ices and enjoy them while sitting outside on the benches. My fav ices flavors are cantaloupe, pistachio, chocolate peanut butter chip, and banana. I have yet to try the ice cream there! read more

I discovered Uncle Louie when I moved to New York in the summer and crashed on my sister's couch in Park Slope (when it was still semi-affordable, pre-Michelle Williams and Maggie Gylhenhaal). During the hottest days of the summer I walked several blocks for the Italian ice and it was well worth it, once 3 times in one day! While I've tried dozens of flavors, Holy Cannoli and anything related to Peanut Butter Cup is my expert recommendation. If that isn't tempting enough, I once saw a pretty good verbal cat fight outside between a patron and a worker. Italian ice- $1.75. Entertainment- free. read more

Ok Uncle Louie is popping up on every other corner it seems. I do enjoy the rocky road ice cream and the spumoni is on par with L&B's version. The prices are a little high, but it is not like you are going to eat this stuff every day. So splurge a little and enjoy the goodness. They do give you a lot for the money, and Louie is a local, so support your Uncle! read more

On my first morning in my apt. I'm standing there in my unpacked kitchen, frying eggs and bacon, in my unflattering boxer briefs. Just as I begin to whip up some hollandaise sauce I notice out my kitchen window two young female Louie G employees staring up at me from the back of the ice cream shop. I mentally make a note to get a shade for that window, and wait a few days before I buy ice cream...hopefully they don't recognize me. About 8 months later, with Louie G's closed for the season I have been there roughly a dozen times, and am still sans a kitchen window shade. The staff is young and seasonal but always friendly. They make a delicious frozen lemonade which is great for hot summer days albeit a bit large for one person. Their list of ice creams is extensive with flavors ranging from common to the obscure, but not being much of an ice cream guy myself, I focus on the Italian ices....of which I believe there to be over 50 flavors. While lemon and strawberry are excellent staples, try Kiwi, its spectacular. read more

Oh wow! What a great find for the summer. Helps make the heat bearable. I'm new to Italian ice (pretty sure I've never seen it in California), but it's deeelish here, especially the fruit flavors. I tried root beer, and it was not as refreshing as actual root beer. The fifth star is for the waffle ice cream sandwich, which blew my socks off. I told the kid working the place I wanted one and he warned me that it would take like 10 minutes. In that time, he charmed me into his own personal favorite combo, which, I have to admit, was MINDBLOWING. Let him hook you up. So so so so good. I wouldn't share it if you asked, but you could get your own. $3.50. read more

I like my ice cream chunky. None of this smooth, artisanal, we-use-locally-grown-raspberries-and-vanilla-bean-and-charge-$5-for-a-tiny-scoop ice cream. Chunky, flavorful, chewy ice cream. Uncle Louis Gs is the place to go for this kind ice cream, and at $3 for a "regular" sized cup, the best deal in Brooklyn. Try the chocolate fudge brownie, the oreo or the milkshakes. An update on my review is in order - since I've literally gone five+ days a week for the entire summer. We even buy quarts sometimes. Yes. Quarts of italian ice. The staff, not bitches anymore. When I decided to live a healthier life at the beginning of the summer. My heart broke thinking that I would not be able to enjoy Uncle Louie G's ice creams. After a couple weeks, I was ready to throw the towel while waiting for a concert at Union Hall. I, halfheatedly chose an ice, thinking it would taste like street ices. How mistaken was I! Uncle Louie G is to street ices what Grey's Papaya (the real on on 72nd) is to Central Park hot dog vendors. They're smooth. They're flavorful. They are a love packed snowball you want to bring home so your parents can meet it. read more

Those who know me will mention that I go far out of my way to get Italian ice. I will often ride a mile or two out of my way just to stop here for a refreshing pint of vanilla chip dip. What I like about Uncle Louie G's is that the prices are low, the servings are large, and the selection is overwhelming! Most locations carry up to 60 different flavors. Admittedly, I have tried most of them, but I do have some favorites (cannoli, honeydew, pistachio, and, of course, vanilla chip dip) The only negative thing I have to say about this location is that they occasionally hire a pretty crummy staff. The last couple times I went the workers were slow and unfriendly. The attitude of the staff is not critical in my eyes, because it is the ice I go there for, not the service. read more
