I really like the express for its convenience. However, they have messed up my order on three separate occasions, which is really frustrating because I don't realize it until I get home. Too late to have them correct the order at that point. Considering that you are paying a premium for their ice cream, they should be on top of their customers' orders. Tonight was when the most recent infraction occurred. My husband went to grab us each a sundae to enjoy while watching a redbox. I ordered a black and tan and got a black and white. He ordered a tan and white with coffee ice cream and got cookies and cream ice cream. We realized they were messed up when we got home and called and spoke with a manager. She offered a free sundae next time. In my opinion she should have taken one of the sundaes off our bill from tonight. It's irritating that we as the customers now have to remember the next time we go in to mention we are owed a free sundae. Let's just hope they don't screw it up again! Oh and the last time they messed up my order, I was pregnant. You just don't mess with a pregnant lady's ice cream! read more

Leave it to Dewars to be booming in business in the face of a recession. I mean, they opened and built two new stores this year. Although, their Calloway location is not getting many nice reviews (not due to product, mostly due to service), I just can't put this Express location down. I mean, how genious to come up with a store that has a drive thru. I've never passed by and not seen a car in line. Are they contributing to the obesity rate? Probably. Do I still use the drive thru to get my fix of a black and white? Of course. It's too hot to get out of the car! Congrats on all your success Dewars! Since this place has a drive through, getting the ice cream and eating it at nearby Riverwalk park is a fun treat. The ice cream is amazing, I crave Dewar's almost every night.... (that might be a good thing or a bad thing) although the drive thru is not my favorite... they cannot split checks, I went through the drive thru one night with 4 other people in my car and we had to go through the drive thru 5 times to get everyone's order!! By the last order the employee was completely rude and you could tell she was over us. At last order she wasn't even talking she would just hand us our ice cream and not say a thing. I will continue to come back, but I just wish they could split checks especially when there is no one else in the drive thru. It was completely empty. read more

I just want to warn you, if you try the new Dewar's Sugar Free Ice Creams...the first ingredient is "Malitol". I had two scoops and had the worst cramping, bloating, and other intestinal issues for about the next 8 to 12 hours hours. They also have Coconut Oil as an ingredient, which can also cause intestinal distress. I wanted to just put this out there as they do not tell you this, and I don't want anyone else to suffer like I did. read more

Dewars has been my family's go to place since the 70's. I can't afford to go often, as their prices are inordinately high and have increased rapidly throughout the years. But, until tonight, I still considered their icecream worh the pain. Of course, this place is beloved of Bakersfield and gets very busy. Tonight it took nearly half an hour to get my order in at the drive through, as happens. No big deal. I ordered my half gallon of peppermint icemilk and a pint of hot fudge with no issue. I think it was $26. Unfortunately, after the interminable wait to get up to the window, I was informed that they were out of half gallons of what I ordered, but I could get it in pints. Well, I need more than that so asked if I could get two pints (which is still only half of what I ordered) for the same price. Someone was asked and they declined. I asked if there was any recourse for having waited all that time, and was simply told "no." So, I said I'd get a pint, whereupon I was charged $24. This is nearly the same price for a mere 1/4 of the original order, fudge notwithstanding. Like an idiot, I handed them my card. But, as they ran it, I couldn't stop thinking of their attitude, which to put into words would be something like "we know we have the crack you want and that you'll pay ANYTHING for it. Why do you think we have cars anaking all through the parking lot? Now shut up and pay up." To be clear, they didn't say that. But through their actions, they implied that. I simply can no longer afford to support that kind of attitude. Dewars has gotten way too big for their britches. read more

Unfortunately, I have to give this specific location a 1 Star, which is sad considering I love Dewar's and grew up eating it. I've come to this location a couple of times when I'm out shopping near there, however each time it disappoints. The first time I went I requested a George's special with almonds instead of walnuts, well when I received it there was walnuts instead, so I went back through the drive and asked if they could remake it, assuming it'd be fine, however I think I may have pissed them off instead. I ended up drinking my drink once I was on the freeway and couldn't for the life of me get any of my milkshake out, well turns out they ended up putting about 3 inches of crushed almonds all smooshed on the bottom. I ended up throwing it away. My next visit I had was just yesterday and again I requested a George's special, but this time split into two cups, keep in mind I've done this at the downtown location and the coffee location without any issues. Anyways, as they give me my drinks I noticed they were in 12oz cups which is a bit confusing because the other locations give out 16oz cups, so I called downtown to confirm if all locations should be the same, and they had said yes and were going to transfer me to the Ming Dewar's to speak to the manager & that she should fix it, because it should all be the same no matter what. Well I ended up speaking to their manager Margaret, who informed me that their location is doing it correctly and that it's harder for them because all the modifications they have to punch in, unlike the other two locations. She tells me that the George's special is a 24oz drink and that I received the 12oz cups because 12+12= 24. As if I was some idiot who didn't understand basic math. I tell her I get it if this is their standard, but it's upsetting when 2/3 locations do it the same and theirs always fails to, so instead of just apologizing or making the matter correct, she then tells me that the other locations like to go the extra mile even when it's not standard, that they'll do anything for a tip and it's sad to say because her employees are the ones who get the short end of the stick for doing things right and that she's spoken to her general manager about the sizing discrepancies, however the other locations are wrong and her location is the only dewars, who are doing their drinks correct. It was just very off putting. I think if there is a mistake or misunderstanding that's happened I don't think there's a need to bash other locations when one isn't doing everything the same as the others. For a manager or any employee who claims they've been with the company for 30+years, the way she handled her behavior and responses to an issue were just completely horrible and unprofessional. Someone gave me a box of chocolates and soft candies from this place. The candies are beautifully packaged. However, I have to say that I enjoy harder chocolates more. I love the georges special and I love being able to get my ice cream at a drive through! The way the fizz of the soda water plays off the viscosity of the ice milk is a culinary symphony found only at Dewar's ....... Today was the all time rock bottom for my fave. Instead of soda water they mixed it with water..... Uh yes water! I'm assuming tap water.. Maybe flat soda water but a fatal error nonetheless! Since I went drive thru there's no real recourse for a $7.00 dollar mistake.... Do I wait another 15 minutes to rectify or spaz out on a young punk... Me sez not! My milkshake was good, but for $10 it should of been amazing! All I wanted was a peanut butter fudge milkshake. They tried to sell me on using chocolate ice cream or peanut butter ice cream, but I just wanted vanilla ice cream with them adding in peanut butter and fudge. So, they charge me for the two add ins. There ice cream is good, but not that good! I didn't use the drive-thru, but I do like that option. Inside there isn't a lot of seating. On a Friday evening, we had to wait a little for a table. Best invention ever! Drive thru ice cream that is actually good! Prices are a little high but honestly, I don't mind paying $7 for amazing ice cream. I got the small sundae with chocolate ice cream, hot fudge and crushed walnuts. The ice cream was creamy and yummy, the hot fudge was rich and sweet, and the walnuts were crunchy adding the perfect compliment to an amazing treat.
