Dewar's has been on my ice cream Mount Rushmore since I was a kid. I have saught after small batch, specialty, mom and pop, craft ice cream shops in all the places I have lived, and I still always crave and want to come back to Dewar's ice cream and their highly coveted peanut butter chews. I almost always get the same order every time. A large sundae with Reese's on the bottom, cookie dough on top, hot fudge, and almonds with a handful of peanut butter chews on the side. This location is a great place to stock up on chews as they can sell any amount of mix and match in bulk of whichever flavors you want... which is something anyone would know and is only a slight indicator of my obsession with their chews.. lol This location in particular is my favorite to visit. The interior is completely decorated with the classic ice cream parlor decor, complete with large circular booths inside as well as comfy chairs in the enclosed outdoor area by the cozy fire during winter. You might even be lucky enough to have a wild Chewy sighting, their mascot, at this location. lol What a local icon! This location also goes ALL OUT with Christmas decorations during the holiday season. I grabbed a few of their custom ornaments and soaked in the festive vibes. They also have solid sized water cups, which is a niche thing to appreciate, but it is most definitely appreciated. I would be remiss if I didn't give a proper shout out to the staff at this location. Their staff are some of the most kind and attentive you'll ever find. They want to see every guest have an amazing experience and it shows in the pride they take in their work as well as the care they show when interacting with each of their guests. Their impeccable customer service feels personal in a way where you can't help but feel a part of the Dewar's family. Came in to try their candies for the first time. First off, the person who helped was so nice and friendly. She was also very patient with out questions and helped us pick the quantity/pack for us. This spot was super cute, clean and organized. Would probably dine in soon. We tried their pistachio and almond candies and both were really good. Came here for a Father's Day treat. It was not as expected. We received water but the hard plastic cups were dirty with debris floating in one and another cup has a rough rim all around it, it would cut a lip. The ice cream was good. The men's restroom did not have any soap, and it was really dirty. It was a disappointing visit. read more

I've moved out of state- but when I visit I always pick up a couple boxes of chews. I remember working at Gottschalks in 1998 when the Almond chews came out and employees walked around with free samples. They are still my favorites service was ok, she cashiered my order( too my money) - but I wish as a visitor I'd received more information for the possibility of buying more / other items. After a late dinner, the family was wanting a sweet treat. I wanted to head downtown for my favorite ice cream spot but ultimately ended up settling for Dewars because it was getting late. Depending on what you're looking for the menu seemed a bit thin. I appreciate unique creations and it just consisted of all your classic cravings (shakes, sundaes, etc.) I have a nice sweet tooth but couldn't quite find what I was looking for, so settled for an ice cream sandwich. Can't go wrong? Yea, no. It was literally a scoop of ice cream sandwiched between a chocolate chip cookie. In spite of it being a sandwich, it was ironic because it didn't come together well at all. The cookie was cold and dry, too thick, and crumbled easily. It would have been much better had it been a warm nice and soft cookie. It didn't help that the ice cream was also very firm. It felt like 2 ingredients put together that failed to be cohesive. I'm sorry, not impressed. Next time I'll plan accordingly and head downtown. I had it delivered. Quality has gone to crap. They don't care any more. The size is cut in half and the price doubled. I ordered extra hot fudge, innsomething that has hot fudge, and I received none. I attended a birthday party on 4/11/26 and was absolutely blown away by the hostesses. Amanda was full of energy, Calissa was very helpful and super sweet, so was Michelle. All the kids were having a blast! 10/10 would recommend having a kids party here! read more

Our go to Birthday Ice-cream spot. Always greats people and the Maple Nut Ice-cream is my favorite flavor. The atmosphere is reminiscent of an old fashioned ice cream parlor. We love it there. We have also rented the party room for Birthday and Girl Scout parties. The kids love it! read more

Went to the ice cream shop off of Rosedale for the very first time and I really enjoyed how big the places and their ample booth seating. This place is quite large and also has space to host birthday parties, which was really cool. They also have a giant counter in the middle of the restaurant that you can sit at Well, this place is large. I feel like their downtown location has more options in terms of candy, truffles, and other knickknacks that you can purchase. And for the ice cream well... What can I say? It is always delicious. My son and his family who do not live in town really enjoyed this place and I hope we can go back many more times. The staff was very friendly and attentive. This was definitely one of the "if you're stopping in Bakersfield, you have to come to Dewar's" recommendations we received whenever we asked someone what to do in Bakersfield. I love the old-school ice cream parlor feel of this place! You seat yourself and staff come over to hand out menus, then when they check back in, you can place your orders. We came in around noon on a Sunday, but as our first meal of the day. I ordered a brownie sundae to split with a friend, which was the perfect portion. The ice cream was good but the marshmallow fluff on top was amazing! Gooey and sweet, but a great compliment to the cold ice cream. Gabryelle at the candy shop nearly had me purchasing all the pistachio chews...delicious! I loved the Dewar's "museum wall" chronicling the family's history in the candy business. Dewar's original location is the best one in my opinion , such a nostalgic feel when you come in through the doors , you get a warm and cozy feeling especially during Christmas time. Yelp menu said they offer sugar free (one person in our party is diabetic) Apparently they stopped having a single solitary sugar free option. When we asked why, we were told they just didn't sell enough of it. Maybe they should consider that it isn't about profit in order to be able to provide an option for the few. I had to get my go to which is a chocolate chip cookie dough malt while she got the black and white with almonds on the top. The malt was so good and you get almost whole another malt left in the tin to take home if you don't finish it all! You gotta try their marshmallow fluff too, it was too bomb and you can even buy some that they jarred up from their little candy shop. I thoroughly loved this spot and will have to come back next time I'm out here. The ice cream was super good! It almost reminded me a bit like Blue Bell. My girl got me some chews too and these are must grab before you leave! Service was quick and everyone was super nice that was working even closer to when they were closing down shop for the night. A Bakersfield Staple! And for good reason! My family and I stopped by this location on a Saturday evening. I was a bit worried that it was going to be super busy due to the time that we went. But we were seated promptly and our waiter Julio took care of us. He made sure to offer us samples of certain ice creams before making our decision which I very much appreciated. My wife and I both ordered a small sundae each, which was the perfect amount for us considering we both had just had dinner. Our ordered arrived in about 10 minutes.
