Dewar's has been on my ice cream Mount Rushmore since I was a kid. I have saught after small batch, specialty, mom and pop, craft ice cream shops in all the places I have lived, and I still always crave and want to come back to Dewar's ice cream and their highly coveted peanut butter chews. I almost always get the same order every time. A large sundae with Reese's on the bottom, cookie dough on top, hot fudge, and almonds with a handful of peanut butter chews on the side. This location is a great place to stock up on chews as they can sell any amount of mix and match in bulk of whichever flavors you want... which is something anyone would know and is only a slight indicator of my obsession with their chews.. lol This location in particular is my favorite to visit. The interior is completely decorated with the classic ice cream parlor decor, complete with large circular booths inside as well as comfy chairs in the enclosed outdoor area by the cozy fire during winter. You might even be lucky enough to have a wild Chewy sighting, their mascot, at this location. lol What a local icon! This location also goes ALL OUT with Christmas decorations during the holiday season. I grabbed a few of their custom ornaments and soaked in the festive vibes. They also have solid sized water cups, which is a niche thing to appreciate, but it is most definitely appreciated. I would be remiss if I didn't give a proper shout out to the staff at this location. Their staff are some of the most kind and attentive you'll ever find. They want to see every guest have an amazing experience and it shows in the pride they take in their work as well as the care they show when interacting with each of their guests. Their impeccable customer service feels personal in a way where you can't help but feel a part of the Dewar's family. Special shout out to Ashley, Brooke, Joey, and Sieclenda for always being so amazing!
Came here for a Father's Day treat. It was not as expected. We received water but the hard plastic cups were dirty with debris floating in one and another cup has a rough rim all around it, it would cut a lip. The ice cream was good. The men's restroom did not have any soap, and it was really dirty. It was a disappointing visit.
Came in to try their candies for the first time. First off, the person who helped was so nice and friendly. She was also very patient with out questions and helped us pick the quantity/pack for us. This spot was super cute, clean and organized. Would probably dine in soon. We tried their pistachio and almond candies and both were really good. Highly recommend this place (at least for their candies... for now).
Had such a great experience at Dewar's! Brooklyn, Emilee, and Kevin were the best and provided such great service. They were super friendly, quick with making our ice creams, and always made sure to check up on us to make sure everything was good. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers and making sure everyone has a great experience. Definitely some of the best employees! We'll definitely be coming back!
A classic in town with delicious sundaes and ice cream! Really a big fan of their peppermint chews too! Inside is always decorated so cute for the season. Valentines and Christmas are one of my favorites!
After a late dinner, the family was wanting a sweet treat. I wanted to head downtown for my favorite ice cream spot but ultimately ended up settling for Dewars because it was getting late. Depending on what you're looking for the menu seemed a bit thin. I appreciate unique creations and it just consisted of all your classic cravings (shakes, sundaes, etc.) I have a nice sweet tooth but couldn't quite find what I was looking for, so settled for an ice cream sandwich. Can't go wrong? Yea, no. It was literally a scoop of ice cream sandwiched between a chocolate chip cookie. In spite of it being a sandwich, it was ironic because it didn't come together well at all. The cookie was cold and dry, too thick, and crumbled easily. It would have been much better had it been a warm nice and soft cookie. It didn't help that the ice cream was also very firm. It felt like 2 ingredients put together that failed to be cohesive. I'm sorry, not impressed. Next time I'll plan accordingly and head downtown. Despite the late night, the young lady that helped us was very sweet and energetic.
We had such a great time here! Emily, our server, made the experience so much fun. I don't usually eat ice cream, but my friends absolutely love this place. The employees are fantastic! 12/6/24
I've been to Dewar's quite a few times, but why don't I remember the root beer floats literally floating? LOL The root beer float was yummy and made for a good laugh. Every time I come to Dewar's, I order vanilla ice cream in some form. This time as a float. It's simple yet delicious! Dewar's is a great spot to enjoy ice cream with friends. The iconic pink seats and the playful decor make it such a fun place. Service is swift and friendly too.
There is an old school ice cream parlor vibe once I walked in, which was cool. We sat ourselves and a server came over to take our order. We ordered a child's scoop, birthday cake flavored ice cream with crushed walnuts. I love the vibrant colors of this place. Definitely a place to recommend since it's a Bakersfield staple.
My mother is a native of Bakersfield and relocated decades ago. In town for a family event, we just had to visit Dewar's. Every single employee smiled and greeted us immediately. Jill was our server who was absolutely both patient and amazing. She answered our questions, made recommendations based on our likes and shared her favorites. The ice cream decision was so tough, but we landed on two Sundaes: butter finger, English toffee/pumpkin and eggnog with cold caramel and walnuts. Cold, sweet, creamy, all of the things! Gabryelle at the candy shop nearly had me purchasing all the pistachio chews...delicious! I loved the Dewar's "museum wall" chronicling the family's history in the candy business. Bakersfield is very fortunate to have such a "sweet experience" such as Dewar's. I understand my mom's childhood stories better now!

Dewars has delicious ice cream and good service. Inside is loud and fast pace . Fun place to come and eat a delicious dessert with your partner , friends or family.. my favorite is the strawberry special. While there are 3 locations around Bakersfield, this one is my absolute favorite! They have a large seating area for big groups, a party room, outdoor seating with a really cool fire display, and your traditional ice cream "bar" seating. They have tons of options from sundaes, to shake, splits, and just plain old ice cream too! They also have a candy area and locally iconic dessert chews (peppermint, peanut, and other flavors too!) Their servings are hefty so come with an appetite or request it in a to-go cup. read more

Small sundae that was originally served in an 8 ounce paper cup this is what I got when I asked if they could put it in a dish! This evening was the first time at this location & most definitely the last! Dewar's is known for their old-fashioned ice cream. What we didn't know that it was also served with a side of old fashion bigotry, racism and prejudice! Not only were we not acknowledged when we came in & as we continued to sit unacknowledged we witnessed the people who came in after us sit next to us. They were handed menus, order & get served. We finally asked for menus & were told they only had one & we had to share it. We were served in paper cups as everybody else in the establishment was served in glass dishes. I was handed this plastic container when I asked the waitress for a dish because I couldn't even stick the spoon in the sundae without the almonds spilling everywhere. We felt very uncomfortable & decided to leave & we went to pay for our ice cream. We talked to the manager. She apologized, asked who our server was, comped the ice cream that we didn't eat. If our server Katlyn & her coworkers are the future of this country, we are most definitely headed in the wrong direction as a nation. read more

So many options it was hard to choose. Service was fast and the place has that classic vibe. The bright 80s colors with the 50s feel. I do wish they had some lactose intolerant options, but that's cool. The kids loved it. They have a soda fountain and candies also. The parking lot is small and weirdly built but as long as you watch your surroundings you should be good read more

We couldn't find the original store so we came to this store. I used to order their floats, but tried the ice cream this time. It was good! I ordered the small sundae (2 scoops) and couldn't finish it. No regrets trying it. This place is easy to find, and the parking is quite easy since there's a parking lot in front. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly. Our server, Tristen, was very nice! She had a sweet smile and very patient and thorough answering our questions, introducing what's good. There weren't a lot of people when we first got there, but slightly over half way through our desserts, people started to float in. She would check up on us from time to time making sure everything was fine. She just made our day. Highly recommended this place. read more

This place is a Bakersfield legendary staple. With currently three locations and one on the way on the West side .... There's a location for mostly everyone. I think East side is missing a convient location though. The service was great ... loved how the wait staff greets you at your table automatically with cups of water. Perfect on a hot summer day. The ice cream and sundaes are pretty good... just missing something... Whipped Cream to complete it with a cherry on top. read more

Surprise. That is my first thought when we recently visited this place and I ordered a Root Beer Float while my wife browsed the candy shop. This place has been making candy since 1909 but for sure the ice cream floats will surprise you. Creamy vanilla ice cream topped off with root beer is a classic. Come see for yourself. read more
A staple of Bakersfield and you always know that you are not going to go home hungry. Beyond the large portions are well flavored ice creams, decadent syrups and the perfect finish finely chopped nuts. They are a must have when you are craving a classic treat. read more

Stop by to have my favorite thing in the menu which is a strawberry special. As always it was delicious, I always tell myself I'm going to get something different but the thought out get something not as satisfying always kills that idea lol. Essential stop! Dewars has been a favorite of mine since childhood. Although I no longer live in Bakersfield, I make it a point to visit whenever I'm passing through to indulge in my favorite treats. The store's retro ambiance adds a wonderful touch of nostalgia. The staff was super friendly, made sure we were hydrated, and got the spot we wanted. I usually go for the classic taffy chews in peanut butter, peppermint, and caramel, but my top choice is the sizable Strawberry Special--blended with strawberries, bananas, almonds, and vanilla ice cream, it's like a little slice of heaven served in two cups because it's so big. This time, I went for another favorite the peppermint bark ice cream, a perfect mix of creaminess and peppermint, I wish I could take tubs back home with me it hasn't lost its homemade taste since I was a kid. We also got my cousin's beloved George's Special, similar to the Strawberry but with chocolate. She loved it so much she married a man named George haha okay maybe for other reasons but still... It was telling since was a kid. Definitely a 10/10 experience every time. read more

One ice cream experience was enough to figure out why Dewar's showed up as no. 1 ice cream parlor in Bakersfield. Plenty of outdoor seating in the patio and they even have a tent set up in the parking lot. Staff was one of the friendliest I have ever met! Service was super fast, they were really really busy but we got taken care of in minutes. Everyone was wearing masks. The ice cream itself was amazing. We just got 1 sundae. The ice cream was rich, creamy and smooth. What really makes it different than other places is the crushed nuts (of your choice) on top. We got almonds. The crushed almonds paired so well with the vanilla and the chocolate scoop. read more

Yes. However the last time I was there (a week ago) he was broken. They are fixing him. He is still on the wall.
