I love me some Dewar's ice cream, but something about this location doesn't compare to the downtown location. I know it's the same ice cream, but to me there's a difference... maybe a mental thing haha. The first time I tried Dewar's ice cream was about 15yrs ago and after I tried it, I was hooked. I tried so many different flavors, but my absolute favorite ice cream is the Red & White and my 2nd favorite is their Susie Special which changed now to Strawberry Special. What can I say? You're either a strawberry person, a chocolate person or a plain vanilla person and all 3 are everyone's favorites, but don't be bummed, Dewar's has soooo many different flavors to choose from. This location stands out from the rest because it's the biggest one they have and they have party rooms. I actually got to see one of the party rooms recently and it's actually a really neat idea. I wish Dewar's had this location years ago because my kids are older now and won't be doing any parties here. They have a cute little entrance here too w the banana seat and a cute little character by the front door. Dewar's ice cream should be eaten w a lot of people so you can experience the ice cream together. Ice cream brings tons of smiles and who can really be mad when eating one of the bests in Bakersfield. read more

Popped in to buy chews. An attendant at the door was directing customers to either the candy counter, the pick up counter, the indoor seating or the outdoor seating areas. Covid compliant. Not busy when I visited and really quick service. I buy 5 to 10 pounds of chews , 6 to 8 times a year as gifts for business trips to Mexico. Not sure if Dewars knows it, but they have a fanatical following in Hermosillo, Sonora and Nogales, Arizona. Note: I don't always get ice cream, but when I do, it's a George's Special with malt. read more

Love how they have orange berry sherbet because rainbow sherbet is so popular but I don't like the lime flavoring, so this flavor was perfect for me! This definitely a popular spot in town. Bakersfield just isn't Bakersfield unless there's Dewar's! I've been coming since I was a child. We used to go to the one downtown with the animal heads on the walls, I'll always remember that. This location has a moose head on the wall that sings. Now I take my own daughter to Dewar's. We always have to get a box or two of the candy chews. The best are the peanut butter, peppermint, caramel and pistachio. They ship as well, it's pretty quick. The ice cream is so good, the last few years I've been ordering peppermint ice cream with hot fudge. The black and whites and sundaes are so so so amazing! They can't be beat. They always bring a cup of ice water to the table. There's lots of booths to sit or you can sit up at the bar and watch them scoop the ice cream. Finally came here this past weekend after being in Bake for 7 years, crazy it took us so long to venture into this Bakersfield institution. We ordered a 2 scoop sundae, got the buttercream & the Reese peanut butter scoops. Delicious!! We also topped it off with gummy bears & walnut trimmings. Definitely enough to share between 2 people. TLDR; the ice cream's always great, but the customer service is always awful. Tonight we called the Dewar's on Calloway to get some ice cream. We used to love it, but the past half a dozen times or so the customer service has just gotten worse; today was no different. Savanna took our pick up order. She was a bit rude over the phone, but unfortunately that's just the Dewars standard lately. The order consisted of a few items, but they messed up half of them. Adding nuts to something we asked for no nuts on, forgetting nuts on another item, and flat out lying about not having ice cream sandwiches in stock when we asked them what flavors they had, so we ended up getting another item instead of the sandwich. Upon arriving, we saw they had what we wanted in stock, so I grabbed that and asked "hey you guys said you didn't have these over the phone, but you had them?" Savanna responded and stated "yeah, well that just wasn't the case." So I asked if we could replace the item we ordered with the sandwich, her coworker said no because they're different prices. So I just bought our ice cream and left, because generally speaking from my experience there over the years, I doubt they would've done anything to fix the situation. There was 6 kids behind the counter ready to mess up the next person's order, so I just let them get back to doing whatever it is Dewars pays them for. So the ice cream is always good, and the service is always bad. But hey, at least they're consistent, right? read more

No more whip cream!! Two stars for the candy and the young lady who did an outstanding job! . Ive cream was super runny.. im not sure if thats the way it comes here but it was like eating a melted shake. Waaay too much of that sugary marshmallow stuff.... i wish i had more ice cream since that is what i came to eat was ice cream not marshmallows. The fact they do not have whip cream anymore i propose to say you cant sell sundays or banana splits anymore. Its the bedrock. I doubt ill ever come back. It has lost its touch. If I'm ever invited i will come again and try something different and maybe change up the review. But not on my dime. read more

My family and I did not feel welcomed both times we visited this location. Some of the employees were rude and did not attend our table as they did to others. Maybe it was because we are of color? Definitely wouldn't attend this location if you are a person of color. read more

My SIL and her hubby always go here with their two daughters for ice cream. She thought we'd like it just as much so we came here when we visited them. AND SHE WAS RIGHT! I love all the flavors of ice cream, the different combos you can get- sundaes, milkshakes, the sizes of the ice cream. The toppings to add are a good selection. I ordered a small sundae with cookies and cream for one of my scoops. I forgot what the other scoop was. I topped it with yummy marshmallow!! Everyone else got different flavors and they all tasted so darn good!!! I see in people's photos on here that they have like.. crushed graham crackers topping. I want to get that next time!! When you take your order to go, they place it inside a styrofoam container, instead of just out in a cup. I think it's pretty convenient for the drive home. The big moose is my SIL's daughter's favorite HAHA. She used to be scared of it (I dont think shes scared of it now). The ice cream is a bit pricy, but worth it! Delicious homemade ice cream, man! Surprise. That is my first thought when we recently visited this place and I ordered a Root Beer Float while my wife browsed the candy shop. You really can't go wrong with local creamery ice cream, and Dewars is not exception. I absolutely love the old soda fountain feel of this location, the roomy booths, and of course...the ice cream! Came here today, a hot Sunday afternoon, and was happy to find there were tables available. They also do curbside service and a lot of people were waiting in their cars outside. We ordered our ice cream, 1 black and tan and 1 single scoop of sherbet. Our order was out within 5 minutes or being placed! Highly recommend adding the almonds as a topping on the black and tan, it really made a big difference and I was delicious!! read more

The red and whites had so much marshmallow cream that the strawberry cheesecake wasnt even tasteful as the top of the glass had 2 inches worth of marshmallow making ice cream a very tiny portion . The serving dish/glass was small and the portion was rather small for the price 3 sundaes didnt even have any marshmallow fluff on them. Spent over 70 bucks and totally disappointed. Dinner after dental work and a frozen mouth = milkshake! I had never been to this location before and we were happy to see it not too busy at 330pm on a Fri. It is a big location! Not a ton of candy selection but was still fun to browse and check out the chocolates behind the glass. The shakes did not take that long to make. I had ordered a strawberry and the nice gal agreed to throw some strawberries in there for me too for taste and texture. He ordered his fave flavor of cookie dough and enjoyed it. They were nice and thick, the spoon they give you is a needed bonus. The shop was clean and seemed well run. I looked at the menu for a bit.. Hard to believe that I am giving Dewar's anything less than 5 Stars but I must. We have been supporting local businesses since the shut down began and get ice cream once or twice a week. Dewar's has now gone with smaller cups with their "to go" sundae's yet when we were there in person they were the size we are used to. Prices seem to have gone up as well. Dewar's is a kitschy, 1950's-inspired ice cream parlor. It pulls this off well with an appropriate decor, lots of seating up at the bar, and tall sundaes overflowing with nuts and chocolate fudge. I ordered the "small" sundae which was just about more than I could finish and a great value for the price (under $6 before tip). An ice cream sundae is a hard thing to do badly, and this was just as delicious as you can probably imagine. Our server was smiley and friendly, and our sundaes arrived at our table about 4 minutes after ordering them. This is a place I'd mostly recommend for families. They have large rounded booths for groups, high chairs stacked tall against the wall, and plenty of music and decorations to keep the kiddos entertained. I could also see Dewar's being a nice place to go to on a date if you don't mind the lively, boisterous surroundings. They have small tables with stools perfect for a couple to share a sundae. A true Bakersfield treat! This place is one of a kind and unique to this town. They sell delicious ice creams and chews that you must try! Originally, dewars had one location in downtown Bakersfield but since then, they've branched out. As a local, I highly recommend this place. Ice cream: SO YUMMY. I can't really describe in words how delicious is it. You just have to try it for yourself. My boyfriend ADORES the marshmallow sauce and claims it's the best he's ever had (and he's quite the marshmallow sauce expert). Note: if you ask to split a malt or milkshake, they will put it into two glasses. Chews: As this company has grown, they have added more flavors aside from the originals (caramel, peppermint, etc). My personal favorites are caramel and almond. The chews with nuts have the nuts placed inside the taffy so you get a burst when you bite into it. Really good! Environment: This location has a more of an open space and larger tables for big parties. There is also a covered patio area with smaller tables. Every 30 min or so (I think) the moose head sings a little song. Keep an eye out! Definitely an ice cream parlor feel! Service: top notch. They have multiple locations throughout the city, but the main location is on Rosedale and Calloway (where I typically go to retrieve my curbside pick-up albeit I often use the drive-thru location as well). My go-to to order is the Red and White, which is strawberry ice cream, fresh strawberries, whipped marshmallow, and your chose of nuts (I choose almonds). It's SO delicious and is my favorite hands-down, but I have tried and enjoyed the Sundae and Black and White as well. The locations are clean, service is great, turnaround is quick for the orders, and the ice cream is AMAZING. Not to mention, the Dewar's chews are classic Christmas gifts in my family :) Dewar's is a must-try for anyone in the area! read more
