This has been a long time favorite for many years! Back in 2014 we ordered our 3 Tier wedding cake Red Velvet, Matterhorn, and vanilla. Today we still come in for little treats. We love the Vanilla cheesecake, cookie butter and Matterhorn cupcakes. I tried the Dubai Brownie and it was a 10/10. This place is SWEET so be prepared to Surrender!! This local bakery is my family's go-to for special event cakes. Their cakes are dense, flavorful, and never dry. One side of the shop is the bakery with coffee, cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. The other side of the shops is a seasonal boutique with candles, jewelry, home goods, and clothing. My only constructive feedback is I wish their clothing line sweatshirts and caps didn't promote so much day drinking (think glitter Rock Republic 1990's vibe.) Sweet Surrender is the best bakery in Bakersfield. Whenever we are in town we stop there. We even ordered a cake there once for my grandson's Birthday since we were in town. The place is super clean and very cute. They have an amazing selection of cakes, cupcakes and cookie and whatever else you may want that is sweet and fresh. They make everything right there. Whenever we stop we get a dozen or more cupcakes to take back to our hotel and then home. They are so fresh they are still great the next day. We love their red velvet cupcakes. The frosting is perfect, not too sweet. Their chocolate cupcakes are amazing. You can always call a day ahead and ask them to make certain types of cupcakes for you and of course you can order cakes, but if they are special call at least a few days ahead of time. Usually Sweet Surrender is consistent and great, but something is up lately. Idk if change in staff or management, but whatever it is needs to be changed back lol. We order my nephews birthday cake from here every year, funfetti with the fondant polka dots. This year they tell us they don't do the polka dots anymore, just sprinkles??? He doesn't like sprinkles. So now we have a boring cake that we have to put our own fondant circles on- super annoying, especially for how expensive their products are. I also order a Rice Krispie treat, and I can't really see it because it's far away but it looks yellow. I ask the employee why it's yellow and she says it's "colored marshmallow" and I say okay... I get to the counter to pay and it's already in the bag and I don't check because homegirl said it was a colored marshmallow. I get home and it's got PEEPS in it. Bro, why did she say "colored marshmallow" when it is a name brand patented product called PEEPS. I despise peeps, they're disgusting. Not to mention it's July???? Why the hell are we using peeps in July, that is March/April activity. I had to call and ask for a refund and throw away this Rice Krispie all because the employee couldn't be bothered to accurately describe the product and purposefully used the vague description "colored marshmallow". This place is ADORABLE. I've lived here in Bakersfield all my life and never been here until today. Honestly I came looking for specific stuffies but once I saw their goodies I couldn't NOT try them. The selection provided was great. I got a brown butter chocolate chip sea salt cookie and OMG. I 1000% will return for that alone. You know how you smell or have nostalgic tastes? That's what that cookie was for me the moment I took a bite. Crunchy but not dry and everything I always want in my cookies I also got 2 cupcakes. I got the Chocolate Samoa Girl Scout cookie (which my fiancé had and liked) and I got myself the Oreo Cheesecake Cupcake and OMG listen to meeeeeeee okay!? I was thinking it was just gonna be a basic cupcake and it was a cheesecake disguised as a cupcake and the frosting YES YES YES. I'm a huge fan of the Pink Champagne Cake from smiths, the topping on this cupcake reminded me of the kind on those cupcakes and Oreos happen to be one of my favorite cookies. Was having a little outting with my hubby when all of a sudden I knew I needed something sweet and pumpkiny lol. Quick Yelp search for all the nearby bakeries and this little gem popped up! Never seen this place before, probably because it's hidden. It's actually right off of Ming and Asher, tucked behind the shopping center itself... You gotta turn down Cheshire Dr to actually get to it! So glad we came though, it's not only a bakery, but a cute little boutique too!! They have so much decor and stuff! Books, toys, clothing, hats, pillows, Halloween decorations, fall themed products, etc. You can definitely spend a good 30-45 mins browsing everything! And then the bakery section... Cute and clean. Everything is beautifully set up and displayed. Very appealing! Cakes (whole and sliced), cookies, cupcakes, bars, toffees, chocolates and even coffee! We ended up getting a pumpkin crumble cupcake, a chocolate chip cookie, a pecan bar and a slice of Manhattan cake. The pumpkin crumble was loaded with crumble!! It's so good! So moist and soft and fluffy and had the perfect blast of pumpkin flavor throughout each bite, I believe the frosting is cream cheese too, whatever it is, my sweet tooth was satisfied. The chocolate chip cookie, was a little on the small side, but was super good, soft and chewy and chocolatey and definitely falls into the class of "upper-class premium cookies". The pecan bar crust was so buttery & tender. The pecans were glazed and cooked perfectly, the center part wasn't overbearing, perfect balance with the filling and crust thickness and it was sweet & very delicious. And it ended up being the highlight for me! :) The Manhattan cake was so moist and hefty and chocolatey! Big ol slice! Very rich, it's the chocolate lovers dream! The frosting was butter cream and so smooth and had the perfect thickness. Plus the free sample chocolates at the front counter! lol We loved them all, and there is many more to soon try! Little bummed to have not seen a wider "Pumpkin flavor selection" though, considering it's October and all... But they did have the one pumpkin crumble cupcake, so ill take it! Plus the staff we all encountered were very happy and sweet people. Felt very comfortable the entire time. So that made the experience that much better too. For all 4 treats we paid around 16-17$. Obviously people are buying the cupcakes for gifts or whatever and the presentation of the box is well known for the beautiful bows they put on them. That's fine if there is no time to make one and put it on for your customers, but please offer the ribbon to do so myself or have some pre made to hand out as other pre made boxes had all the bows on them. I would even buy the pre made bow if it was available, I mean why not? I skipped breakfast yesterday before my manicure stopped here for my annual Xmas gift for my manicurist shop and Miss Mandy They open at 10am but you know i was waiting out there at 9:45 sharp Hahaha!!! Remember that Mervyn's commercial where the people were tapping on the door saying "open open open" Lol that's what I felt like!! Such a beautiful store hidden behind the grocery outlet area totally secluded they have a gated dining area now!! And when you walk in you feel like hansel and gretel!! Like you are in a nummy edible house!!! :D You cannot walk in here and not have every bad feeling or stress just disappear for the time being!! Oh and trust me you'll have the sweetest goofiest smile on your face wanting to buy EVERYTHING in that dessert case!!! I am not over exaggerating!! If you know me i'm more of a salty bitch than a sweet but when i crave a dessert that means it's REAL!!! Haha I have to have a balance and Sweet Surrender has That balance!!! Super sweet staff!!
