As I was walking I saw the sign for this place and was happy I did because my other coffee options were a fast food restaurant or the famous coffee chain. It was a bit confusing to locate. It was tucked away in the back of a commercial office space type building. Once inside the place was very clean and organized. Very minimalist design. I was only one of 4 total people inside. My order was taken quickly. I ordered an iced americano with a ham and cheese turnover. Coffee was on point. No notes. No complaints. The pastry however was not good. They asked me if I wanted it heated up. I said I did. I saw her put it in the microwave, and I assumed they turned it on. When I bit into it (I had already left and walked across the street) it was cold. Like cold cold. On top of that it was flavorless which made it worse. If you're driving up, go past the outdoor dining space for the restaurant and the door foe the coffee shop is opposite the restaurant. I di ask the barista if they had any specials or any drinks they were really known for and got some funny looks. But ended up with a delightful honey lavender latte, which was delicious. My constant search for coffee led me here. It is a charming little place tucked in the corner of truxtun and oak. This corner has had its ups and downs through time. The place has decent decor, you can tell the owner invested in the place, with nice lighting, a pretty bar, and a big orange coffee roaster in the back. The barista was friendly, gave me solid recommendations. I went for an oat milk latte with white chocolate syrup. They chose a mild, delicious bean for this coffee. Everything was made well. Only gripe is I decided to drink it there, and I was served a paper cup. My one rule for coffee shop is I don't go back unless I was served in a ceramic cup with coffee art. Cafes don't sell coffee, they sell the customer experience. That is why it is worth $6 a cup plus tip. read more

He's also the Chief Cook and Bottle Washer...just kidding! It is hidden away in the back like other reviews said. First impressions, a filthy homeless guy laying his head on a table talking to himself in the lobby. The service was poor to fair with the lady helped us very short and clipped answers and not appearing to be happy to be working there at all. I wanted to buy some beans for home, but when I asked about beans she said there machine had been broken for about a month so they didn't have any. My wife ordered and mocha which was not on the menu but they made one. She said it was gross because it had a funny taste she couldn't identify and didn't drink it although I thought it was good but did have a very different flavor. I had a cappuccino which was very good. My wife also wanted a bagel with cream cheese. They had bagels but said they were out of cream cheese. Following a quick search on this here website, Beanies was the establishment that caught my attention, so off I went. To be honest, I wasn't expecting anything fancy. I just needed something decent. The place is somewhat difficult to find, as even though it is visible from the street, once parked in the lot, it takes a little bit of maneuvering to locate it. Perhaps I didn't notice, but there is minimal signage pointing to its location in the back of a walkway between a salon and a diner. Once inside, I was impressed with the cozy, inviting feel, and was instantly greeted by the kind barista. My go-to drink is always Cold Brew, so once I saw that on the menu, it was a no brainer. I also grabbed a gluten free muffin to go along with it. The decor is simple, yet creates a surprisingly comfortable atmosphere. In the back, there is also an impressive industrial coffee grinder machine to add to the visual aesthetics. What was supposed to be a quick pitstop turned into a relatively long session where I whipped out my laptop to get some work done. As the time was cutting close for me to hit the road, I still found myself wanting to stick around even longer. Oh, and as for the Cold Brew and muffin... Absolutely magnificent! It's no exaggeration to say that this is one of the finest, smoothest Cold Brews I have ever had the pleasure to imbibe. I was tempted to grab one more for the road. I needed a place to get some writing done and ended up here. The San Luis Obispo hipster in me was nervous at first--it's a very specific vibe and very easy to get wrong. But I was pleasantly surprised. The aesthetic inside makes you almost forget you're in Bakersfield, which I am all about. I wanted to try something with lots of caffeine because... well... life. I had been waiting for my drink so when one of the workers set a drink on the counter, I asked if that was mine and she looked at one of her coworkers and they both smirked at each other. What an adorable little coffee shop. I love their insignia with the tiny beanie. The coffee shop is very well hidden, but they have a lot of markers to make it as easy as possible for you to find it. The parking was a little bit of a problem and it's funny because the parking lot is huge but the spaces are designated for certain businesses and then they were re-doing the parking lot so there was a lot of tape blocking off spaces. No worries, we found a space. The coffee shop itself is in the back on the left. It is a cute and tiny space. We ordered a black coffee and an oat milk latte. They were very good but my latte was not hot. It was lukewarm. I can deal with that but it was a bit disappointing. The drip coffee was super hot and good. They did not have any pastries. I mean, maybe they do but when we went on Saturday morning at 11, they were out. I really liked the coffee and wanted to buy beans like I always do. I was driving toward a different coffee shop and out of the corner of my little eye I spotted their sign. I made a quick U-turn and found may way to their parking lot. My Beanies Coffee Roasters Detour turned out to be one of my best detours. Not only did I receive a delicious cortado I also had the opportunity to chat it up with one of the baristas. She recommended some of her favorite coffee shops in the area. She also recommended I search for "coffee roasters" along with "coffee shops" whenever I am surveying an area. This has probably been one of the best pieces of advice I have received in my 1,000 coffee shops quest. Well...besides 29th Parallel Coffee, my 37th coffee shop, they introduced me to cortados. I was looking for a new coffee shop that was opened downtown on the weekend as many places seem to be open primarily Monday-Friday. There is plenty of parking and it's located within the commonwealth building area. The staff were patient, and friendly. They have seating indoors so my sister and I enjoyed our time chatting while we waited for the coffee. The coffee was smooth, and they offer non-dairy milk options (soy, almond and oat milk). They have both hot and cold coffee options and had two different sizes to choose from. They have pastry options and seasonal items such as pumpkin options which I wish I would have tried.
