Really enjoy this bakery! It not only has yummy treats, but also cute knickknacks you can buy! What I really love is that they have delicious gluten free treats! I did a gluten free diet, and this was my go to during that time. They have a gluten free almond horn that I must say can be addicting. I really have enjoyed everything I have had from here. The Matterhorn and red velvet cake are my two favorites, but I don't think the red velvet is available in a gluten free option. Either way you won't leave this place without something delicious. read more

Okay so I just recently started going to sweet surrender for there frosted sugar cookies. They give a bit nostalgia to a sugar cookie. However having gone a hand full times now I keep asking myself if this is a $5 cookie. It's a sugar cookie with sprinkles and sugar glaze, or sometimes just glaze. The regular cookies are $2.50 so the price for a frosted cookie could be capped at about $3.75. Also if you order a dozen I was informed you pay regular price per cookie. $60 dollars for 12 sugar cookies is wild! Atleast discount the cookies for buying a dozen or more at a time. Supporting local businesses are amazing, but price gauging is not. read more

My husband and I snagged a pink champagne cake from their pre-made case to enjoy as our personal wedding cake. The staff was friendly, and the bakery also includes a cute little shop. Absolutely amazing flavor! It was sweet, and almost fruity from the champagne taste. The cake was soft and moist even after multiple days in the fridge. My only complaint was how heavily the white chocolate decor on top tasted of food coloring; I'm not sure if that was avoidable though. The frosting itself wasn't overwhelming. I can't wait for our one year anniversary so we can eat the pieces in the freezer read more

Sweet Surrender is more than a bakery. I don't even know where to start in talking about this marvelous place. It has wonderful things to eat, but it's also great to gift these things as well. This is to me the best bakery in town. I'm from the bay area and I miss my favorite places. This place has the best Italian cream cake. Others in town don't know what they are doing. I won't mention the other bakery, but the recipe is posted inside the store. You must try the pink champagne cake. It's deeeelishous!! It's a bit expensive, but it's worth every penny. read more

My review is strictly about the Matterhorn cake. Once upon a time it was the most deliciously moist and flavorful cake in town. The last four times I have purchased this cake I have been disappointed. It has been dry and literally crumbly. The frosting too is no longer flavorful but just sweet. I love this charming bakery and am sure there are lots of other treats for me to enjoy. read more

Last minute snafu with ordering a custom cake for my aunts 89th birthday elsewhere. When I called Sweet Surrender, they were very accomodating. Though they don't really do "custom orders" we were able to pick up a two tier "The Matterhorn" the next afternoon, as well as some beautiful candles (they sell various cake decor items), then add some faux flowers from Amazon. Although their baked goods are pretty good, their customer service leaves little to be desired. Absolutely won't help out, go the extra mile, smile or take any steps to be understanding or helpful. Was really in a pinch today and even though they had want I needed wouldn't even help out. I can't tell you how much business I've given these people but it's time to find a new bakery. read more

Bought a "slice" of tiramisu recently. Price was $15.00, which is obscene, it was mostly cream, very little cake. The taste was okay but not great. Did not leave me wanting more. Another bakery in Bakersfield charges $5.00 for a slice. It's much tastier and has more cake than cream. I have noticed that Sweet Surrender's prices have increased on all their baked goods. I don't think I will go there again. Their baked goods are not worth the prices they charge. Nothing really special about them. read more

I live in Colorado and have been gluten-free for 5+ years. Best gluten-free cookies I've EVER eaten. If it would have passed as a regular cookie before I went GF, I would've said it was a top notch cookie period. My lord! They need to franchise and take this to Colorado. They should try their hands with mastering a gluten-free cinnamon roll, too ... I have yet to find a GF cinnamon roll that could pass for a Cinnabon or other elite cinnamon roll. I have a feeling Sweet Surrender could pull it off. And I didn't find this in LA or Malibu ... I got it in Bakersfield of all places!! Amazing!!! read more

This is a cute bakery that has a nice gift shop. If you're in the area, it's fine to visit. However, I wouldn't go out of your way to go here just because you want to try the Matterhorn chocolate cake or the white chocolate lemon cake (Giada and Oprah love these). We made a trek here just to try them and they were okay but not great. Prices were reasonable. It's probably the best bakery in Bakersfield but when I compare it to other places I've been to it's just average. Good customer service. read more

This is such a cute little gem to stumble upon if you get the chance to check it out. There's a gift shop within the bakery which is wonderful cause you can kill two birds with with one stone. A nice treat and a sweet momento for those you cherish. I recommend the cheesecake cupcakes. I've had the pleasure of trying the reeces peanut butter cheesecake. My sister loved the English toffee cupcake. The staff was helpful and gave excellent recommendations based on cravings and likes which I found helpful. They have a full menu from caffeinated beverages and alternate craving killers like cookies and even gluten free options. These are the best cupcakes I've ever had! They are way better than dots or sprinkles in LA. They are super moist and the flavors are excellent. My favorite is the strawberry shortcake and it tastes just like the old school ice cream bar. My hubby bought me some for my birthday in December of last year and that was the first time I had them. Since then I've got my coworkers hooked and they demand I bring them for every potluck. Red velvet, and pink champagne are also favorites. The flavor is not too overwhelmingly sweet, and they melt in your mouth. These are perfection. read more

Quick Summary One of the more popular bakeries at Bakersfield. Great selection, but I do prefer Smith's more, as Sweet Surrender is too sweet for my taste Food- 4 stars I've tried the Matahorn cake and cupcake (made popular by the Food Network). It's good, but I found it overwhelmingly sweet. It's great for a bite or 2, but you feel like you've been hit by a train when that sugar high goes away Service- 5 stars Staff members are very friendly and attentive. Very accommodating on food recommendations Value- 3 stars You're paying a premium when you come to Sweet Surrender because of the brand. Bottom Line It's a bakery that's a well-oiled machine and I respect that. However, I feel that it's overrated because of how overwhelmingly sweet their products are. read more

You're gonna think I'm crazy, but I've eaten so many different sweets from Sweet Surrender now, but I've never been to the physical location. When my older son was younger and attended OJ Actis down the street from this place, I passed this building everyday and still never visited this place. It's funny because I've only tried it from reps bringing it to the office or from friends bringing me goodies. From everything that I have tried here and believe me I've tried all sorts of different items and flavors here, I couldn't tell you what my favorite item was because a lot of the flavors can't be compared to the other item. If you have a sweet tooth like me then you'd understand what I mean. So many different items to choose from and I hear that tons of celebrities visit this place because of the deliciousness that comes out of their oven. I even heard that Oprah and Giada loved the cakes made inside this place, so you know they make goodness in their kitchen. One word Matterhorn. If you've never bitten into Sweet Surender's Matterhorn cupcake well my friend, you're just not living. Let me explain, it is chocolate without being chocolatey, it's rich without being overly rich, it's moist with and airy frosting that has me plagued because I just don't know what it is but I do know that I love it. It is my one must have every year on my birthday and my sneaky treat when I'm buying cupcakes for other Birthdays lol. When I switch to a mostly gluten free diet, I was happy to find out they offered my favorite in gluten free. However, I was shocked to find out how freaking good this version of the Matterhorn also is! The texture is nearly identical and the flavor is spot on so all the gluten free girlies please enjoy also. I've never had a bad experience the staff is friendly and I love the added touches of the packaging. Makes it perfect to gift some cupcakes. In the shop you'll find all sorts of decor, clothing, and gifts. read more

There was also cute fall decor. Looking back at my photos now... I see a discrepancy in pricing for my Iced Pistachio Latte. The physical menu says $8 and the digital menu says $7... not sure what I paid for it because they didn't give me a receipt. I asked for it with Oat Milk, not sure if there are additional charges. On a positive note that iced pistachio latte was delicious, especially the sips with chunks of pistachio sauce. Yum. Wanting to support the small business I also got their Bitifour ($2) and the Baklava ($6). The bitifour was described as a butter shortbread cookie which I really like but this version was on the dry, not buttery, and not sweet enough side for a cookie. The baklava came with 2 pieces in one order. I liked the baklava a lot more than the bitifour. I really liked the pistachio latte but I have a hard time giving a business 5 stars when their pricing is fuzzy. I'm all for pricing changes and increase to adapt to business cost, but it's funny they went out of the way to update the physical menus and not the much easier digital menu.

I LOVED these cakes. Last year, I bought and shipped more than six cakes across the country to relatives on special occasions. The cakes were wonderful!!!!! The shipping was way high, but the cakes were worth it. Then a weird thing happened. My go-to person no longer worked there and shipping-order had to be placed a month or more in advance, not just a week, as their previous website promised, so couldn't get a cake out with two weeks notice last attempt. Nada No Never mind I was a repeat loyal customer. Then, today, I started to place another order for my Dad and the cost -with the shipping rate for the $38. cake (including the cake)- used to be about $105. which was already outrageous, but the cakes were so good. But today, that shipping rate went up to OVER $138. plus the cost of the cake which makes it over 168.00!!!! to ship a $38. cake? Give me a break! They have totally LOST my repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat,etc. business as well as one of their best-ever employees. Get a clue. You turned magic into sludge with that move. -- Update: 6/11/15: Update: So odd, they had someone -apparently or claiming to be from the bakery- send me a "compliment" here to thank me for that "positive" review... obviously they didn't see the ONE star and only read the first line... Also, after losing my business due to their outrageous shipping hike above and beyond their previously already outrageous shipping cost, we went to another company for the cake we wanted to send our loved one. We got a similarly GREAT CAKE out of NYC -also shipped across the country- and their costs for frozen professional guaranteed overnight delivery were around $19. Much more reasonable than approx $138. in shipping costs (not including the cake cost) that Sweet Surrender wanted. Saved a bundle! Fabulous service! Piece of Cake! read more

Sweet surrender how disappointed you have me I've been a customer for so many many years, but after my friend worked there in the customer service area and I was just told of how horrible this places is I definitely do not wanna go there anymore. Where do I start let see---with how unfair you guys are with the workers front and or back and how disgustingly, the owner starts everyone as minimum paying it does not matter if u have 5yrs of experience. We are in 2024 economics is so high in California and how can you guys start people at $16.50. Secondly, overworking all of your stuff, making them stress and overwhelming to the point that they are literally crying of how overwhelming it is in that bakery and finally a high-end bakery that I thought was homemade freshly done is such a lie. All your guises recipes are from a box. The brownie was one of my favorites and the recipe is straight from the Costco box this really really does disappoint me sweet surrender start appreciating your employees and start doing better. read more

Sweet surrender is the BEST place for cupcakes, cakes, and other pastry deserts. After eating cupcakes from here, no other cupcake compares. Their cakes and cupcakes are extremely moist and seem to just melt in your mouth, and they use the most delicious butter cream icings. My all time favorite is their pink champagne cupcake, it is absolutely delicious! Not only are their deserts amazing, but their facility carries a various amount of decorative items from season to year round! They carry wine and cocktail glasses and ornaments for the Christmas season, you name it, this place has got it! I have visited this shop for many years and have recommended it to my friends. The cakes are made with fine ingredients and taste buttery homemade. My last visit was disappointing just this week. It wasn't the bakery items that disappointed but the new atmosphere. The person waiting on me could have been the owner. She was not unpleasant exactly but definitely not friendly. This is my favorite place to get sweets. I come in very often and try to treat myself and my boyfriend to a few cupcakes when I can. My favorite one to get is Pink Chamagne and sometimes I'll get the Confetti cake. This place completely satisfies my cravings whenever I have them. To top it off, they are more than just a bakery!! They also have this sort of boutique that sells beautiful clothing, accessories, etc. I have never had a problem at this place and I look forward to going every single time! read more

This is not my first time ordering birthday cakes and they were always wonderfully made.
