Stopped in last minute hoping to find a bday cake, they didn't have anything that was reasonably affordable. I don't mind paying but $25 for a chocolate cake the size of a large brownie. (I've ordered them before and they're good but no way not that good), So I ordered 4 donuts. I know they're good it's Smith's. My issue is this location make me feels ba-hum bug!! It seems the lady was annoyed with my presence and questions. Very unenthusiastic about anything! Also seems to be just a preorder and pick up location not much product in the cases. read more

This Smith's bakery is inside the little mart at the Sinclair station. They don't carry a lot of quantity of anything so it's hit and miss. Their products are always good and appreciated by the office staff read more

Best cookie experience! We unknowingly planned a bridal shower on Easter weekend. We went in Saturday to pick up the cookies and she very kindly told us that on holidays the deliveries are often a little later than normal (makes sense). We let her know we needed them to set up for a bridal shower. She immediately got on the phone to find out where the delivery driver was to give us an ETA. Honestly, this was something she had zero control over yet she had two phones calling/on hold with different locations trying to be helpful. So nice! She had the most amazing attitude, which is hard to find The other sweet gal helped everyone who came in while she was on the phone. They really worked together! We were super appreciative! Smith's Bakery - YUM Smith's always satisfies my sweet tooth, either with a yummy donut or cookie (thumb prints are my favorite). For my birthday my friend got me a giant pink donut saying "Happy Birthday Jillian". It was so so good! If you aren't a sweets person, they also offer homemade croissants and bagels. Smith's Bakery is by far the best there is. They have been around for as many years as I can remember. They have multiple locations throughout town now and I've been to all of them. They take pride in the quality of their baked goods. Service is always great at each location. When I was a kid, Mom ALWAYS got me their Pink Champagne cake for my birthday cake. It remains my favorite cake to this day. It is so delicious and each year since I moved away, I've missed that cake. It's not enough of a reason to drive to or visit Bakersfield, but, since my parents still live here, I can get my fix every now and then. Smith's also has a variety of cookies. Their smiley face sugar cookies and the thumb print cookies are to die for. One cannot go to Smith's without getting some. In fact, I may get some to take to my co-workers. Keep baking! Well today was not a good day for Smith's at Brookside. I am in the store usually twice a day. Don't always purchase at Smith's but maybe every 5th time in the store - always on Saturdays for sure! Today I make my request and after it being bagged and placed on the counter the person (Crystle??) waiting on me turned and walked away, without comment, and engaged in a long conversation with their delivery guy. When she returned I asked "what just happened" and she replied I needed to talk to our delivery guy. Well, after asking way she walked away and left me standing there (there are to counter people and I was the only customer at the moment. She became very defensive and at at point I told her she was very rude. She then said she was trying to apologize (well in an off handed way obviously) so I handed her the money and she turned and walked to the cash register, mumbling but turned and said "it's only a donut". I immediately asked for my money back and walked away. Customer service really is dead...sad to see great old businesses die by way of rude employees Won't be going back there. read more

I ordered pink champagne cupcakes Friday for my friend's birthday today. Got a call early this morning saying they didn't have enough cupcakes for my order. What?!? The reason I ordered last week was to make sure I got the treats that my friend calls "cupcakes to die for!" I showed up early to pick up my order. I was ready to run to another Smith's if my order wasn't complete. The nice woman working there said she was able to fill my order completely. Whew! Not sure why those cupcakes are so hard to get. When I'm in Southwest Bakersfield craving Smith's Bakery and the car is in need of gasoline, then I head on over to this location. Smith's Bakery has a nice little spot inside Brookside Market. Smith's is one of the best bakeries in town, and just about everything they make is delicious. You're sure to find something inside to satisfy your sweet tooth. I really miss this place. Beside the typical assorted pastries that my coworkers and I used to eat on a weekly basis, I LOVE the yellow smiley face cookies and thumbprints with icing and sprinkles. I turn into the Cookie Monster when I'm near this place. No bakery I've been to anywhere since does their cookies as good as Smith's. Buttery with a nice texture, and the best icing. I usually have a good experience at Smith's but I wasn't happy with this particular time at Brookside Deli. I first walked over while waiting for a coffee at the deli to be made. The woman didn't notice me but I got a phone call so I walked away. When I returned another customer was being helped and I waited behind the other customer. When the customer left, the lady went back to reviewing receipts or something. I was baffled as to how she didn't notice me. I know I could have spoken up but I was really curious how long it would take her to notice me. I didn't time it but it was a very long time and I eventually just spoke up. When I asked her a question and didn't hear her mask-muffled response, she seemed to get attitude because she closed her eyes and sighed before repeating. read more

I like this place for my sugar fixes. It would be five stars but sometimes they sell you yesterday's cupcakes, and their cupcakes are pretty pricey anyhow, and certainly overpriced if stale.
