I really liked Deeper Roots Coffee. I came in here on a cold, rainy day before shopping in Oakley and it was exactly what I needed. When you walk in, this place is so cute! It is definitely work-friendly so if you have a group meeting or if you want to get some work done during the day, this is a place I would check out. The tables are pretty big and even though it's a small coffee shop it didn't seem that busy. I really like all of the plants inside and the Edison bulbs (I have a fascination with Edison bulbs for some reason). The people that work here are extremely friendly. I was worried they would be coffee snobs because Deeper Roots is known for being coffee connoisseurs, but they were very helpful and nice! I ordered a honey bear latte with almond milk, which was not served as hot as I'm used to...I think this is because they didn't want to burn the almond milk, so next time I order a latte I will get it with regular milk. It was very tasty, and they put a foam flower on top which is a nice touch. My husband got a Guatemalan coffee blend to go in his coffee mug that he brought with him (they will fill up your cup if you bring it!). His coffee was very very good, and honestly I think I liked it more than he did...He still prefers Coffee Emporium coffee. Overall, a really nice coffee shop, and probably the only one that could tempt me away from Coffee Emporium. I'm a fan! read more

The fate of the fifth star is hanging in the balance. I sip my Ethiopia Amaro Gayo pour-over and try to determine whether it is good enough or not. Sadly I think it falls a bit short of the mark. It's a bit too dark maybe. Not bad but not that pleasing. Oh well. Deeper Roots is the best coffee roaster in Cinci. There's no doubt about that. I've been a fan of them for some time. And now finally I make it to their new cafe. I was expecting the cafe to be nothing short of incredible. Was it? Yes it was a positive delight, but it left me feeling just a bit disappointed. Not because it was bad but because it wasn't more awesome than any other usual third waver. Maybe it was because I had just been to the epic, hip, new m5 Espresso Lab five minutes earlier. But I probably had too high of expectations. The cafe is fairly cool, fairly typical. The La Marzocca is fairly cool, fairly typical. Baristas were fairly cool, fairly typical, fairly reserved. Generally I give five stars to places that I don't find any major fault with. At Deeper Roots there may be a slight lack of the Wow Factor but I still would have given them five stars if I had liked the coffee a little better. I'm still a fan of these guys and I'm proud to have a good roaster in Cincinnati. I'll come back whenever I get the chance. read more

A little on the smaller side but with white walls and a minimally decorated interior it looks a lot bigger! And I LOVE all the natural light! Its very clean inside and the staff is amazing and super helpful. They have a nice selection of hot and cold drinks and lots of different teas. There is a lot of in and out traffic from all the window shoppers on Oakley Square. Its great to see everyone stopping by the local shops. It is definitely a place to go to catch up with friends on a Sunday afternoon. It isn't really a place to study or work, warning: the wifi is slow, but the tables have loads of space if you're willing to try. read more

The cappuccino you can tell by the smooth flavor, that they put a lot of effort into making this. Their coffee is sourced smart, and in general the vibe of this place is on. A small coffee shop with a few high tables and a couple of larger tables, Deeper Roots seems like a nice change in scenery compared to the usual bustling and #basic Starbucks. 1st time visiting. My opinion from traveling to many coffee shops in the United States is that the name is creative, and this place has a nice atmosphere. There is a few things I'd like to address though. 1. When ordering the guy wrote down on sticky notes and handed to the barista to make the drinks. Where is the P.O. system? 2. The lids were difficult to get on. 3. Waited for someone to remember to grab one of our croissants and heat it (no communication). 4. There are picnic tables out back but no shade and trash cans. Please don't take this as all bad i own a business also and if there is anything that I can improve on I would love to here what would make my customers want to come back. First coffee of the morning. I have nothing uncomplimentary to say about the place, it's just that the coffee was kind of dark, and I didn't connect with surroundings. It was a bit too chain-like, perfect looking, lacking character or art; it didn't inspire me. Papua New Guinea macchiato. Served in a red cup and saucer, and sparkling water, on a wooden tray. Today, after a late start, I set out on my morning errands. Still needing my coffee fix & knowing I was heading towards Oakley, I thought I would stop by The Blue Manatee. To my surprise, the outside décor has changed (that big goofy flower pot or whatever it was is gone) so I sensed something was amiss. When walking thru the door, I obviously knew things have changed. I'm fine with that! Looks good so far, right? Fresh new interior design. A classy feel. This will work. So I briefly talked to the employees behind the counter about the 'new place'. How long have you been here. What are you all about. I then asked for a café au lait. I wanted a large only to be told there is just one size. What??!!?? Why? Ok fine. Looks rather small and won't last me long but here I am. I was then told the cost - $2.75. Wow! Better be damn good. I can get these elsewhere for $2.00. What makes yours extra special? I will admit that, once served, it was very frothy and seemed to be a higher echelon than what I might get at other coffee houses. But here is where I almost lost it. I like to add cinnamon and nutmeg into my beverage. No nutmeg. Are you kidding me? Isn't that a coffee shop basic component? I did without and left with my overpriced 12 oz café au lait. The beverage was very yummy - major point score. The employees were nice & friendly - more points. Coffee portion was inadequate - negative score. Price was too high - major point loss. All in all, I obviously left with a somewhat confused, disillusioned opinion of Deeper Roots. Might give it another whirl in an effort to either support my first impressions or dismiss them. Beautifully decorated space in Oakley area, which Oakley has developed nicely over the past decade or so... - the coffee at DR is good, the offerings change frequently: (for example, I'm drinking a soda right now made of syrup using coffee cherries...neat.) Seating is somewhat limited, but most of the times I drop by, there are seats available. Parking is mostly street (there may be spots available in adjoining parking lot, but is usually full when I visit). Kid-friendly: they have two high chairs available for use - so, that tells me that they don't mind the munchkins hanging around. Coffee: they usually have 3 espressos available from what I can see. If you want to try some single-origin, this may be your place. Oh, they have Edison bulbs in their lights, so you know they're legit. read more

I'm a sucker for a local coffee shop, and Deeper Roots is a welcomed addition to Oakley Square. For starters, it's perfectly located within walking distance of everything Oakley has to offer, and there's even a private parking lot! The interior is small and cozy with a simple and rustic design. I could totally see myself spending a morning here catching up on emails and Yelping about my next favorite spot. :) I walked in on a cold morning after a run and proudly exclaimed to the very friendly cashier: "I've never been here before!" and she was quick to run through their entire menu and list of coffees while I watched the barista next to her, mesmerized by his meticulous attention to detail of his french press (although, the process they mentioned was called something different). She told me they don't have any artificial flavorings, so all their fancy lattes are made with natural ingredients. My go-to is usually a vanilla latte, and I'm not a coffee snob by any means, but I overheard the man ahead of me order his Guatemalan brew and proclaim how fantastic it was, so I took his word for it. Alas, it was incredibly rich and smooth and exactly what I'd expect from a local shop. Deeper Roots definitely knows their coffee and are true artists in their craft. I can hardly wait to go back and try out more of their delicious offerings. read more

I live just down the street so I attend regularly. That being said, I have merely two suggestions! 1) Please offer small/medium/large size beverages. Your 'one size' is not nearly big enough for those that need a big caffeine dose in the morning. 2) Perhaps consider extending your hours? A 4PM close time is kind of a bummer! If you were open until even 6 PM, I would stop in for an after-work beverage, as many people enjoy getting coffee later in the evening. Had been buying and brewing Deeper Roots for a while and was elated when they took over this brick and mortar shop. These guys make an awesome cup and are always working with farms around the world to ensure quality from the farm to the roastery to your cup. Come here for a good cup of single-origin coffee or espresso. Also have some great cold brew and nitro cold brew! Bonus, they also serve some great bread/jam from Sixteen Bricks and Hen of the Woods or my favorite - almond croissants from Frieda's Desserts. Delicious coffee with a great mission. Everything about this place is fantastic. Nestled right next to the Blue Manatee in Oakley Square, the location couldn't be more perfect. I've had mostly lattes and boy were they delicious. But recently I tried the nitro coffee via suggestion from the barista. It's nothing I've ever tasted before, and in the best way possible. Nitro iced coffee comes straight from the tap, like a Guinness. It's infused with nitrogen, pretty trippy right? On a hot day it was the perfect companion. For taste it's crisper, slightly sweeter and creamier than just your regular iced coffee, even when consumed black. If you're looking for a something new to try I'd definitely recommend it. This is excellent coffee. Excited to come back and try more drinks. So far I've had several espresso drinks and they've all been excellent. This shop is right next to the Blue Manatee. They've closed off the pass-through that used to connect this space with the Blue Manatee book store. Reasonably priced coffee, a short and simple menu, great Wi-Fi and free parking are a good start. The server was also very friendly.I would have liked to have seen more to eat. But the selection of snacks were good ones. My wife and I shared a chocolate stuffed croissant which is every bit as devilish as you would imagine. Somehow Deeper Roots runs a hipster-ish sort of environment without making you feel like you need to be 20 to hang out. Yes, they put a cute leaf pattern in your cream, but no they don't make a big thing out of it. The music was also very tasteful. There were quite a few tracks off of my playlist! read more

Probably my favorite coffee shop in Oakley/Hyde Park area. The space is very cozy and clean. I love that they have milk alternatives for people who need dairy free or are transitioning to dairy free. The Macadamia milk is a nice and unusual alternative.One thing l notice is that they don't really offer any gluten free bakery items. I think that could be a nice addition. Some sort of muffin or donut would be great! And I'm sure local gf bakeries would love to team up. I truly love their espresso, and coffees. You can't go wrong here! read more

I have been to this little coffee shop a few times recently, and have enjoyed it every time. Maybe I get lucky, but there never seems to be a ton of people there. Maybe, we just go at off times, but we never have a long wait to get our drinks. I've loved everything I've gotten here which includes some of their amazing regular drip coffee, some iced coffee drinks, and the nitro. All the employees are friendly and helpful with questions about flavors and what not. This is definitely a great local coffee shop and worth a stop. read more

I was a half hour early to work so I decided to go to a coffee shop. I found Deeper Roots Coffee near me and decided to try it. I realized on my way that by the time I got there, I would have to turn around and go back to work. I would not have enough time to wait for my order AND get to work on time. So I called them and the man who answered was super helpful and said he wouldn't start my coffee. When I arrived I instantly loved the aesthetic and set up of the coffee house. My drink was ready to go, and I was able to be back on my way. The best part was when I took a sip of my coffee, it was the PERFECT temperature and taste!! He seems genuinely surprised that there are places in America outside of SF where you can buy coffee that isn't swamp water, and the whole second paragraph is about how awesome his life is. I tripped over Eric W's fixie just trying to walk into the place, then listened to another couple Eric W's argue about Shellac records (they were both wrong, it's "1000 Hurts" and that's just it.) ... ... By now you know that I am Eric W too. Not the exact Eric W mind you, but a simulacrum of Eric W. An ersatz Eric W. Like, when your mom put a little water in the ketchup bottle and you had to eat it and it wasn't bad, it was just...odd. We Eric W's go from place to place ruining things for everyone because our mothers didn't hug us enough when we were young and we're desperately crying out to the world "notice me! I'm special too!" We went to Deeper Roots on a whim. Walked in and it seemed like a perfect quaint little coffee shop. People quietly sitting at the tables or talking in groups. My spouse had a vanilla latte and I had an iced nitro coffee. The nitro coffee is basically carbonated coffee. A lot of people after me were ordering the same so it must be very popular. The Nitro wasn't for me but the vanilla latte was DELICIOUS. We will be returning for lattes for sure! Give this adorable place a try. It's a million times better than any Starbucks. read more

I like boutique tea and coffee places, especially when they have interesting tea. Food was pretty good. It's not extensive, but quality bread and jam/butter options. I had silver needle with 12 grain toast and nut butter. I enjoyed silver needle 20 years ago in China and it's rather mainstream today. Teavana sells it too. This cafe has a nice vibe and kind and efficient servers. Watch that sun coming thru the glass in the mornings. read more
