Quite large, specious, nicely decorated, clean restaurant with good food. The restaurant has several dining halls to accommodate multiple large groups (during our dining we saw 2 tourists busses arriving). To start the experience they serve on the house noodles in a small cup, very flavourful and delicious. We had the Bulgogi from Hot Plate menu and added the chef's special with it. Nicely presented and cooked. The portions/ratio of beef and vegetables were balanced. We started with Takoyaki (octopus ball), very nicely prepared, well fried crispy outside with soft melting inside. Overall a nice experience. Ample parking available in front of the restaurant in the private parking lot

If you've ever craved that Korea-level cozy home meal without hopping on a plane, De Chou is the spot. I'll admit, when we first pulled up and saw an empty parking lot, we were skeptical. But the moment we walked in, the aroma of warm soup and all the classic Korean essentials hit me like a hug I didn't know I needed. We kicked things off with the seafood pancake -- golden, crispy edges with a soft, melt-in-your-mouth center, packed with generous seafood bites. Honestly, I could've called it a night right there, but then the mains showed up like a feast. My wife's kimchi jjigae had layers of flavor that kept building with every bite, while my beef bibimbap was so rich and satisfying it almost felt unfair. The vibe? Cozy yet elevated. Perfect for a casual date night or a relaxed dinner with friends. Huge shoutout to the staff, who were warm and attentive -- especially the ajumma who kept the side dishes and water flowing. Those sides? Don't sleep on them. The kimchi and fishcakes alone could make a whole meal. Insider Tip: The sides are unlimited, so don't be shy about asking for more (you'll thank me later). Would I come back? Absolutely. Would I bring people here just to flex my foodie radar? 100%. This spot is lowkey now, but the food is top tier -- Scarborough's best-kept secret, and now my wife and I's new favorite go-to. Final Take: De Chou isn't just a restaurant, it's the kind of meal you'll brag about later. If you enjoyed this review, hit that follow -- I'm uncovering the gems so you don't waste a bite.

Dropped by this restaurant for a spontaneous dinner. This place has both open seating and semi-private dining areas, offering options for different occasions and preferences. Like at other Korean restaurants, the complimentary appetizer set was a nice touch, and I liked the marinated potatoes the most. Chicken Katsu: The chicken was a bit on the dry side compared to what I've had at Japanese restaurants. Takoyaki: The preparation and taste were on par with what you'd typically find at Japanese eateries. Bibimbap: It matched the quality I've experienced at other Korean places and had plenty of vegetables, making it a healthy choice. Service was good too. Overall, a pleasant dining experience with room for improvement in some dishes. Visited in the evening looking for some Korean food in the neighbourhood. We walked in and were greeted by some nice staff. Looking at the menu, however, we were surprised to see that it was much more expensive than any other Korean restaurant in the area. We got the Pork Bone Soup hot pot, and the portion size was big enough for leftovers, but after tax and tip, it was over $60. While it tasted good, there were some odd bits and pieces that we didn't expect, like enoki mushrooms and bok choy in our soup. It was a good experience overall, but I personally would opt for some of the other local Korean restaurants in the area instead which offer higher quality of food at more reasonable prices.

Been here few times! Located in plaza Victoria park/ McNicoll where there's lot of parking. This is where Sharon used to be so a big spot. Tried a few dishes: Beef bibimpap- nice fulfilling portion! Love the beef being marinated Seafood pancake- thick big portion which is good but isn't as crispy as other places Cold noodles- slushy broth and lot of nice flavor. Similar to cho sun ok! Which is great cause this closer to me Wings was special of night and decent but not sure if it's worth the price Overall def try it out!

I went here and tried their pork bone soup, bibimbap (beef), and pork belly veg wraps. Everything was good. I think the pork bone soup broth could have been tastier, but it was still pretty solid. The bibimbap was really good and had a good combination of ingredients. The pork belly wraps were also good. The service is quick and overall, I would definitely recommend!

Moved to a new location in Scarborough and space is super duper big and spacious. They also have very private booths for their dining, where you can ring a bell to get a server. Washrooms are outside near the entrance. It's like a maze in the restaurant since it's so big and has so many sections/ booths. The food here is so good and delicious. As always with any Korean food, it's great for sharing. They bring a little noodle to each person to start their meal as a little complimentary app. The menu is huge and options are endless, they really have everything! They also have golf combo sets that come with a lot of standard Korean dishes. Here's the ratings of some of the yummy food: Tangsuyuk 5/5 - A great sharing item with deep fried pieces of pork in a sticky sweet and sour sauce. Was so good and first item to arrive to the table. Bossom 5/5 - Love love love! This is a must get. Came with a hot pot stove to keep the pieces of pork belly nice and warm. The plate of cabbage and lettuce on the side also had a beautiful presentation with their pickled radish, placed like roses on the plate. Everything about this dish/ combinations was out of this world. Pork bone soup 5/5 - Get the hot pot version, as it's bang for your buck and good for sharing with the table. Super tasty pork bones and soup and will definitely come back just for this! Cold noodle with icy broth 5/5 - Always a must get, since it's refreshing from all the hot/ spicy foods you'll probably be consuming. Comes with an icy broth that makes it extra cold. Seafood pancake 5/5 - Delicious! Dipping sauce for it was also so good and a great compliment to the pancake. Love their new location as it's so spacious and has lots of free parking. Come with a larger group so you can share food and try more things!

I had read a lot of good reviews about this place particularly with respect to the sliced pork broth soup, so of course I had to try it! It definitely did not disappoint and hit the spot. I was definitely full after. They also give you a nice variety of banchan that I haven't had at other restaurants. Service was good too. Our waitress explained how everything worked.

New and updated location of De Chou. It is 25x bigger than the old space. You walk in and it's an escape room. There is enough seating to house a village. You'll have to walk to the back of the restaurant to be greeted by the staff. In my immediate circle de Chou has the best pork bone soup (gamjatang) - I cannot disagree. We ordered a few items for 8 people. Some bossam, seafood pancake, pork bone soup Korean style sweet and sour pork Bossam: meat, sauce, veggies - 10/10 Seafood pancake: thicC pancake made it feel like a deep dish pizza, lots of seafood inside Gamjatang: spicy, meaty, soupy, flavorful. All the elements you want in a PBS. Galbi: small portion but always so good Best value and flavor in Scarb for Korean IMO. (Pls if you can open again in Thornhill my wife and I appreciate it. Also pls get liquor license soon because soju and Somak) Ample parking outside but construction? Plaza is a little wonky Tyvm

We were craving Korean food and this spot was perfect. Tucked away in a quaint plaza in Scarborough is this welcoming restaurant with delicious Korean comfort food. It seems like the restaurant is family run which is great. We ordered the steamed pork belly , Korean fried chicken & jajamyeon. Overall, this was a very satisfying meal.

This is a lovely mom and pop style place. It's not that big so it fills up quickly. The service was amazing, kind and attentive. They have lots of very traditional items but we stuck to regular fare, beef and tofu stew, beef bulgogi bi bim bap and chicken katsu. All were really tasty. Next time we will try one of the cold noodles!

All you need to know is that this restaurant is HUGE but really fills up for dinner. It's really popular, and there's definitely a reason why! The food was good and the service was good. We ordered the pork bone soup hot pot, the seafood pancake and a bibimbap. This was definitely way too much food for 4 people, but we wanted to try it all! The food and sides came out quickly despite the restaurant being so busy. There were 6 refillable side dishes, in particular the kimchi stood out to me as it tasted fresh and not overly fermented. For our mains, the bibimbap was really good: hot, flavourful and great texture. The seafood pancake was thick and crispy. A little pricey, but I guess it's okay since there was so much stuff inside it. The pork bone soup had a good amount of bones, potatoes, rice cakes and veggies inside. Good value for the hot pot compared to the individual portion! The meat was tender and fall off the bone. However, we found the soup way too spicy for us. I've had extra spicy soups at other Korean restaurants and this was even spicier than that. Couldn't taste any other flavour in the which is disappointing. We ended up taking this home and recooking it. Overall, I would say it is a little pricey, but if you are looking for good Korean food or looking for a place that can sit a lot of people comfortably, I would definitely give this place a try!

It's dry aged meats so you can expect the pricing to be higher than other Korean bbq's. The service was top notch with servers coming to check in with us throughout our meal. The food was amazing here and the quality of their meats is definitely the highlight. Here's what we got: Yukhoe (raw beef tartare) 5/5 - So fresh, so delicious and a must get appetizer. Pairs perfectly with the sweet pear slices and delicious crisps. Cold Noodle Soup 5/5 - Chewy noodles with a cold broth that is the perfect carb and contrast to the bbq meats. Refreshing and delicious. Heritage No Name 5/5 - Such bang for buck in my opinion. $25 for 240g of this premium heritage pork. When cooked, there was no porky flavour at all, it got so brown when cooked that it almost looked like beef. A must get! Marinated bone-in short rib 5/5 - This was so good and was one thick piece of short rib. My favourite meat of the night for sure. Like all Korean bbqs, this spot also serves a variety of banchans and kbbq comes with a complimentary soup that I thought was the best compd soup ever (compared to all other kbbq places). I loved this restaurant and can't wait to be back! A must try that is worth all the hype.

I came here during Korealicious to try traditional Korean soy-marinated crab and shrimp…read more The complimentary side dishes were great. My favorites were the sweet soy-braised tofu skin, japchae, and spicy cucumber salad. The hot barley tea also paired really well with the marinated seafood. Marinated Crab The platter comes with six half pieces of soy-marinated crab and six half pieces of spicy marinated crab. The soy-marinated crab tasted very traditional, with a strong sweet soy sauce flavor. Compared with another Michelin pop-up restaurant I tried before, this version was much richer and saltier. The blue crab meat had a soft, jelly-like texture from the curing process, which was impressive. However, the soy sauce became quite dominant after a few pieces, so I highly recommend pairing it with the beef tendon soup or barley tea to balance the flavors. The spicy crab, however, wasn't my favorite. Instead of the sweet, savory heat that I usually associate with Korean gochujang, it leaned more toward the direct heat of Korean chili flakes, similar to the spice level in tteokbokki. I felt the spiciness overwhelmed the natural sweetness of the crab rather than enhancing it. Marinated Shrimp I was worried that eight shrimp wouldn't be enough, but the plate was huge. They use giant tiger prawns, each about the size of my hand, so two or three are already quite filling. Because the prawns are so large, they are only lightly cured, so the meat stays firm and springy instead of becoming soft like the Cantonese-style marinated shrimp I'm more familiar with. The sweet soy marinade penetrates the meat very well, making every bite flavorful. However, after a few shrimp, the soy sauce becomes increasingly dominant and the flavor starts to feel one-dimensional. Personally, I prefer the layered flavors of Cantonese-style marinated seafood, where the freshness of the seafood is complemented by ginger, garlic, cooking wine, and fish sauce. Beef Tendon Soup This ended up being my favorite dish of the meal. The broth was rich with beef flavor and had a wonderful silky texture from the collagen released by the tendon. It paired perfectly with the marinated seafood. A sip of the soup cleansed the palate from the strong soy sauce, making the next bite of crab or shrimp taste fresh again. The tendon itself was tender and well-cooked. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the mustard soy dipping sauce served on the side. Overall, this meal felt more like experiencing two very different marinated seafood traditions. Korean-style marinated seafood emphasizes the deep savory flavor developed through soy sauce curing, while Cantonese-style marinated seafood highlights the natural sweetness of the seafood with layers of ginger, garlic, cooking wine, and fresh aromatics. Even though I personally still prefer the Cantonese style, I enjoyed experiencing this traditional Korean approach.
