Feels like it's hard to find good jokbal, but Hanyang has the best I've ever! (and it's close to home too! ) I had the half & half jokbal, cheese corn & seafood pancake. There was only 3 of us, but this can most likely feed 4-5 ladies. Portion sizes are very generous, staff are friendly. Definitely coming back again!

half and half bossam and jokbal. garlic bossam is TOP tier.

June 30, 2024 - Late dinner with friends, I arrived a bit late but my friends already ordered the Jokbal. We added the rice balls and rice cake after. Everything came out around the same time. I really loved the garlic Jokbal!! The rice ball was really good. Loved the flavour. My friends said that the Rice cake was too spicy. It wasn't that spicy. But the Kimchi was very spicy for me. Definitely going back.

DIY rice balls and BBQ jokbal

Found out about this place through social media and really wanted to try it since it looked delicious! We came on a Saturday around 6:15pm and got seated right away. By 6:30 though, there started being a wait for a table, so be sure to get there a little earlier to beat the rush! Tables can be a little close together with others unless you have a booth, so be mindful of that. We ordered the roasted jokbal with extra meat and DIY seasoned rice balls. Our food came decently on time. They also give you tea to drink with your meal. The food was pretty good - the DIY rice balls were amazing! However a few things went wrong during our visit. First, there was a moth in my lettuce. I let the server know and they apologized and brought us some new lettuce. Second, when we were about a third of the way through eating the jokbal, we were notified that we actually got the wrong order. We were eating BBQ jokbal and it didn't have the extra meat. Our options were to keep the BBQ jokbal or take the roasted jokbal with extra meat. We wanted to just switch the BBQ jokbal with the roasted jokbal without the extra meat, but we were told we couldn't. So we ended up just keeping the BBQ jokbal. We weren't offered any complementary appetizers or discount for the moth or for messing up our order. To me, this is not good customer service. Although the food was decent, I don't think I'll be back for that reason. This experience left me with a bad first impression.

Ambiance is causal, music is medium to loud. There are few large tables to accommodate bigger group. Perfect for group of 2-4. The place is busy and only 2 front staff on Friday night. Need to be patient for refill of water, side dishes. Food is delicious and best Korean pork hocks in town. The meat is flavourful, juicy and tender. DIY rice balls is a must order item. They have the best recipe to have well balanced flavour and texture. Their pork bone soup is good too. You must order 2 people order for dinner. Come at lunch time as they have pork bone soup for 1 order. Decent price lunch menu too.

Casual atmosphere, bit of a wait but the large portions and tasty jokbal and gamjatang was worth it. Bring an appetite and a group.

Pork bone soup tower for 2 people

Got the pork bone soup tower for 2 people. The picture doesn't do it justice because we knocked down the tower before taking a picture. The broth is very good and so was the meat. The downside is that it does not come with rice, so we spent more $ than we had anticipated. Although the service was very good and the atmosphere was mostly quiet.

I tried the half/half and the spicy one. Original jokbal is really good, flavourful, fatty. All the jokbal was really good and large portion. Bossam is ok, tad dry and lacked flavour compared to other places I've had it from. DIY rice ball is fun, great side with the jokbal Would def come back for their jokbal!

Gamjatang Tower

This is an amazing spot for traditional Jokbal! The portions were huge and the flavours were spot on! We also got a Gamjatang tower to share and it was perfect for the winter time. I love how quick the service was too; the food was served nice and piping hot. We definitely had leftovers even with four people sharing it and the food was reasonable priced. I like how everything on the menu is a shareable item, making it a very family style meal. This space in Scarborough also has a cozy wooden cabin vibes to it.

We love coming to Hanyang Jokbal and we have visited both locations thus far. The food menu here is simple and pig's hock plus some other yummy street food. Totally amazing. The service is on point and their service staff are great. Walked inside and the ambiance is great that is filled with K-Pop music. Coming back again!

Bbq jokbal with rice cake add on
Jessica L.

We tried the bbq jokbal - it was smokey and flavourful. I don't recommend adding the rice cake since it's not a saucey dish so the rice cake was kind of tasteless. If you want some carbs, def try the DIY rice balls. It was yummy and fun to make. Both dishes are big in portion, and they filled up 3 of us girls. Lettuce is unlimited. The jokbal comes with bean sprout soup - but a warning that this is actually spicy even though it doesn't look like it ! Our server was friendly and attentive. Overall, it was a great dining experience! For more food photos, please visit Jess.feed.me on IG!

Pork bone soup

Looking for some specialty Korean food. This place serves up a variety of pork hock (leg) cooked in various methods and flavours. We called in earlier during the week to book a reservation. When we arrived the restaurant was not too busy about 3 tables of customers. By the end of the dinner the place was almost full. We order the Spicy Jokbal $42 + $4 rice cakes. The meal came with a spicy clear broth soup, lettuce, pickled turnips, some sort of spicy chives, and we asked for kimchi although we were told it doesn't come with the spicy jokbal. There was a gochuchang sauce and raw garlic and jalapeno peppers and another dipping sauce which I wasn't sure about. The meat was tender and the skin also so succulent. You can order a steam rice or DIY rice ball dish to offset the spice and savouryness of the jokbal dish. The appetizer or ban chan in Korean were refillable. We also got a refill on the green leaf lettuce. They had a promo on the pork bone soup $9.99 with any order from the menu. The soup had great texture and flavour. The bones had lots of meat. My wife and I enjoyed it however had we known there was a soup served with the jokbal we would have passed on it. Overall the service was attentive and friendly. The server apologized for the delay on our pork bone soup and offered to give us a free drink. So we got a free bottle of Sapporo for our troubles. Great cuatomer service goes a long way in keeping customers coming back for more. Well done Hanyang and your food was definitely worth it and we will be back! We will try the seafood pancake and garlic jokbal next time!

I was starting to get really hangry and irritated after walking around the city all day. We started with Korean beer and shots of Jinro Is Back Soyu. It was a good idea. Overall the food was quite good. I recommend everyone to check this restaurant out for themselves. The Korean pancake with seafood and vegetables was huge and much crispier than the one I've tried before. My beef tartare bibimbap was perfect. Just thinking about it makes me want to have it right now. The sizzling hot plate with pork and squid also looked very impressive. It must have been delicious as well, because one of my companions ate the whole thing with no problem. The spicy shredded beef brisket stew/soup 'Yukgaejang' was something which i wouldn't survive, but my man finished everything to the last drop. Hence we entered Jin Dai Lae. Good decision (yes, I am patting my back). Entree pricing was $3 to $4 lower than Markham/Richmond Hill. Portion was so big that you would be full, and might have to doggy bag. Most importantly, food tasted good. Short ribs stew had many pieces of beef. Squids hot plate was saucy. It wasn't too spicy, so it was good for me (menu didn't have a chilli sign either). For people who like it hot, you can ask for some chilli sauce.
