Lunch and dinners here are top notch. They do a great job on sides and main dishes alike. Good atmosphere for couples, small groups, and family event dining. Love their steaks, and their portions are spot on. In other Davio's locations, I have seen their desert carts, and all of their pastries and fruit and cream based dishes were fabulous, even worthy of the being sampled at the best of the North End bakeries. I have been to their Chestnut Hill location as well, and their main fare is fabulous at both locations. Parking is doable at the meters and at the surrounding garages. It's also easily accessible from Back Bay, the Theater District, and Chinatown. If you love Italian, and also want a change of pace, with their Northern Italian menu, check them out. Tonight I went to Davio's Back Bay for an early-evening solo dinner. I placed an order for drinks and a meal consisting of free-range chicken, french fries, and spinach. The drinks arrived promptly, and the food was served after an appropriate amount of time. The chicken and spinach were acceptable, but the fries were soggy and not too warm. I had to speak to both a busboy and a hostess before my server finally appeared. By then I was almost done eating the chicken and spinach. The server apologized and said that she was serving a function that was taking place in the restaurant that night. She then brought a fresh batch of fries. It wasn't clear if the problem originated with the server or with management for spreading the staff too thin. Either way, it was an unpleasant experience. I'm not going back to Davio's. read more

I frequent Davio's often for lunch, mostly because it has absolutely scrumptious gluten-free pizza (which is why it made my list of 11 Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in Boston). So when I heard they were adding an extensive gluten-free brunch menu, I jumped at the opportunity to try it out! Davio's in Boston's Back Bay is a classy place, white tablecloths included. It's perfect for a fancy girl's brunch, a date, or to take your parents to when they're in town. We started with the Caesar Salad, which was delicious and came with the most scrumptious parmesean crisps. I love how they were generous with the anchovies - for some reason a lot of restaurants skimp out on those, but their salty texture is so great paired with the romaine lettuce! My sweet tooth was super excited about the gluten-free french toast and berry plate! Sometimes gluten-free bread can be crumbly or more crisp, but these pieces were soft and thicker - perfect for french toast! N got the gnocchi with mushrooms and truffle oil. He likes the more earthy flavors so this one was a hit! Prepare yourselves for the epic dessert tray that comes around as a brunch dessert! At this point we were happily full, but who can say no to dessert, right? So clearly I opted for the flan and berry plate. No regrets! This dish was so decadent, and the vanilla flavor really stood out in the flan and paired nicely with the tart blackberries. We experienced great service and impeccable meals during our brunch at Davio's - who has a full non-gluten-free menu as well. They have so many options on their menu, which means you can keep going back and getting something new every time. Plus, they're walking distance from the Public Garden, the South End, and shopping on Newbury Street or in the Prudential Mall! Hubby and I ate at the beautiful bar last night. Our server, Anna was so welcoming and gracious. She prepared an Old Fashion with Eagle Rare Bourbon for him and I had the softest and best Negroni I have ever had! The menu had so many exciting choices. We chose the small (!) hot seafood tower. There was more than enough for the 2 of us and it came to us sizzling hot. My favs were the broiled oysters and an amazing San Marzano tomato confection with shrimp. Their tomato sauce was awesome. Could have eaten that with a spoon We each got 1 cannoli. Tiny - my guess is that the shell might have been a wonton and I also think the filling might have been marscapone rather than ricotta but they were absolutely delicious - served with a variety of truly luscious berries. I have been to Davio's both in Foxborough and Braintree MA. Foxborough seems to be superior to Braintree . Have not been b there in the last couple of years . I feel the place is over rated and over priced. The food is so so and the prices are high. The service, however is first class. read more

I came here for Dine Out Boston the other day and the experience was wonderful. The hosts were vibrant and friendly as they led us to our seats by the bar. This restaurant is near work and convenient for office outings. When our Executive Team has lunch (we have gone 4 times) the food is good. We always order appetizers to share. But it seems to take the kitchen a long time to deliver 8 entrees. It becomes starkly obvious when your water glass is topped off several times between courses Also, during peak lunch hours it's very hard to hear the people sitting at the same table, which can be a bit of a struggle for a business outing. I love this restaurant for dinner but my recent brunch experience was awful. If you're going to try this place for brunch I definitely would go later in the day. Perhaps our experience was bad because we were there right at 11 AM. I will definitely go back and give it another try but probably for dinner. Had dinner here for Father's Day. After waiting for 40 minutes at our table with no waiter, we asked water girl what was going on and she rudely told us it was not her job to find the "missing" waitress. We then ask the waiter serving table next to us and like a twilight zone movie he stared at us, looked up at ceiling and walked away without saying a word. All of a sudden, this gentleman came over and told us he didn't know what was going on but he would help us. He was wonderful and was tipped accordingly. Now the food. The filet was unseasoned and super dry. The baked Alaska was a thin slice of burned cake with chocolate ice cream and marshmallow fluff. No resemblance in taste to baked Alaska. I came here for dinner on Friday night, and we arrived at 7:15pm and got seated at 7:30pm with our reservation. We ordered drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts for the 7 of us and honestly, we didn't leave until 10:30pm because the service was very slow. I understand it's busy, but it shouldn't take so long for our orders to come out. I ordered the specials with the scallops and it was so horrible, I didn't even eat 1/4 of the entree. The birthday girl ordered the haddock, and she didn't finish 1/4 of it. I'm surprised why the waitress didn't ask why we didn't touch our entrees! Davio's on Arlington Street doesn't disappoint. Saturday we sat at the bar and the service by Erin and Anna was attentive and friendly. The octopus appetizer was tender and delicious. I had the scallops and risotto with a hint of lemon and lightly sautéed veggies that were really tasteful. My wife had a fusili pasta in a lemon sauce and shrimp. Food was excellent . My hubby surprised me for my birthday and brought me to this lovely place. The menu is a tad bit confusing however we were very grateful that our sever explained very thing to us . We order a dozen clams, 18oz ribeye with onion rings and Mac and cheese . Also the Roasted Free Range Chicken, Creamy Potatoes, Brussels Sprouts, Lemon Butter. Once the food was served our waiter never came to check on us . We took a bite of our Mac and cheese and I kid you not those noodles were no where never cooked . After Kinky Boots, we went to dinner at Davio's. We had a 615 reservation but got there about 515. They went ahead and seated us. Our waiter, Tim was fantastic. I started with the Rueben spring rolls and there were great. I then had the pork chop. It really should be called the whole pig cause it was huge but cooked perfectly and was delicious. The fries cheese curds were a nice added touch. We sat near the open kitchen so we could watch the staff and they all were working hard and seemingly like a well oiled team. Been coming to Davio's since 2016 when our son started college. Every visit to Boston meant a dinner there. Davio's had also become a day-after-Thansgiving tradition.THIS Friday after Thanksgiving, we had the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. Upon arrival, the host could not find our reservation. Half of our party was already seated, but the hostess kept looking at the computer screen saying, "NO reservation." At that point my sister, who just finished chemo, goes walking around the large space, cane in hand and finally finds the rest of our party. I then said to the hostess, "That was ridiculous and rude. Just shaking your head no for 10 minutes. What an awful way to handle that." I did not raise my voice. As soon as we were seated, the manager on duty, STEVE, came over to our table sweating and ranting, saying I upset the hostess. He just kept reprimanding me, embarrassing me while I said nothing. My husband said, "She didn't raise her voice or do anything wrong. She just spoke sternly." The manager, STEVE walked away, then came back and insisted we leave the restaurant. 6 people. 7:30pm. The Friday after Thanskgiving. One person in our party wearing a chemo headscarf. Pork chop was not good. First one came out way over done. Had to send it back (I rarely send things back), second came out better but with little to no taste - just a bland piece of pork with zero seasoning. My partner had finished their steak when the pork came back out which made for a frustrating dining experience. This was my first time dining at Davio's. I have passed by this restaurant many times and have always wanted to try it. I decided to give this place a try on Valentine's Day. One thing is because I was making last minute reservations and this was one of the restaurants that had tables available and second, this restaurant would be great for a Valentine's day dinner. For Valentine's Day, they have a special $95 per person 4 course dinner. Each course had about 5 to 6 choices to choose from so it can definitely satisfy everyone's cravings! The ambiance of the is romantic with dim lighting, which sets an intimate mood, perfect for V-day dinners and date nights. For Antipasti, I ordered the tuna tartare, ponzu, cucumber salad, crispy wontons and my date ordered the baby iceberg, applewood bacon, tomato, onion, croutons, herbed buttermilk dressing. The tuna tartare was delicious and it was fresh. The ponzu sauce went really well with the tuna. It was savory and acidic, which sparked my taste bud and opened up my appetite for the rest of the courses. I also tried the iceberg salad and it was fresh and crispy. The dressing was perfect. For first course, I ordered the hand-rolled potato gnocchi, organic mushrooms, basil, white truffle oil. This was my favorite course of the night! Although I did not get much of the truffle flavor, the gnocchi was made to its perfection! It was so light and fluffy. I have tried many italian restaurants in Boston and the gnocchi that I have tried have always left me with disappointment. I cannot describe how amazing it was in words! My date ordered the spaghettini, shrimp, hot cherry peppers, olive oil. The presentation was pretty. The pasta was al dente and everything was delicious as well. The first course was a perfect portion and left us enough room for the main course. For the main course, I ordered the grilled center cut filet mignon, crabmeat, asparagus, roasted potatoes, béarnaise sauce. The temperature of the meat was perfect and it was topped with a mountain of crabmeat bathed in the béarnaise sauce. I wish the meat was not as charred on the outside because it was a little too bitter to the taste. My date ordered the sautéed veal tenderloin, prosciutto, shallot polenta, sautéed spinach, marsala sauce. The veal was tasty but a little on the salty side. It might have been sitting in the brine or marinade for too long. But it was tender and flavorful. For dessert, I ordered the chocolate moose and my date ordered the cannolis with mixed fruits. These two desserts were not on the menu. I might have been too full from my meal that I thought my dessert was too cloying after a few bites. I loved how they gave us a small box of sweets as a souvenir and a lovely rose for the ladies. It definitely made my night! The service was also superb. They were very attentive at making sure your wine glass/water cup is always full. They were also prompt with delivering each course to the table. 4.5 Stars. Sadly, I am not a fine dining expert, just an enthusiastic Yelper, but I think Davio's is a good choice if you're looking for a nice dinner. As far as I can tell, everyone loved their entrees. I was part of a 13 person convoy and our reservation was accidentally cancelled due to a error on their part. The hostess had a table within 30 min and offered free apps which was nice. I liked the meatballs, and the nicest compliment I can give is that they don't cause indigestion! (rare feat!) In fact, I stuffed my face and the whole meal sat nicely. (TMI, I know). Do fine dining experts divulge such info? The spring rolls (available in your Grocer's freezer!) are nice, but the real winner was the calamari. They were the ring style (as opposed to tentacles!) and normally I associate that with cheap, rubbery calamari. Quite the contrary - best calamari I've had in a long time. I ordered the lobster ravioli special for dinner, which came with roasted corn. It was delicious but I still scammed the people around me into offering bites of their food. I got a bite of the veal chop which had a nice char to it, and the shrimp which were really flavorful. I enjoyed the mac n cheese side and Brussels sprouts. I also had a bite of my brother's steak which was very tender. The only complaint I had was that my lobster rav came out a few minutes after everyone else and they had to wait awkwardly. I encouraged them to dig in, but no one wanted to be rude. As a consequence, my brother's steak cooled off near the end, but it's a small gripe. Otherwise, the service was excellent. Two words: Dessert. Cart. Instead of a dessert menu, at the end of your meal you will be presented with a dessert cart with 6 tantalizing dessert options, including a deep dish tiramisu that I will have to go back and try next time. I love dessert and I love being able to see exactly what my food will look like before I order it, so the dessert cart pretty much sealed the deal for me as the perfect way to end our delicious meal. Tip: Based on the two desserts we ordered, desserts appear to be $10 apiece. The highlight of my night, aside from the sheer presence of a cart full of desserts, was the Lobster Bisque. I'm not usually partial towards lobster bisques and I was getting lobster risotto for my entree, so I decided to pass on ordering any appetizer in order to save room for dessert at the end. However, after trying a sip of my dad's bisque, I was sold--dessert was just going to have to make room for this soup. It's a large portion and just the right balance of creamy and tomato-y with chunks of lobster happily adrift. For my entree, I ordered the Lobster Risotto. One thing worth mentioning is that most of the lobster in the risotto, if not all, are all claw meat, including the rubbery pointy tips. It didn't necessarily detract from the risotto though. Again, it was a large portion and I ended up taking a small half of the risotto home with me. Their portion sizes are definitely one thing that sets them apart from other "fancy food" places. My parents both ordered the Pan Seared Sea Scallops, which comes with 5 plump scallops sitting in a shallow pool of sweet creamy corn (which my dad replaced with grilled asparagus) and topped with a crunchy match stick potato garnish. The scallops were super tender and flavorful, yum! Bonus stars for Davio's uncommonly extensive menu--this is definitely another thing that sets them apart. I generally find that expensive/fancy restaurants tend to have very short menus with only a handful of choices for each course, which is problematic because someone in my family often can't find anything on the menu that they really want to eat. This was definitely not a problem we ran into at Davio's and we all left with happy bellies. All this being said, one of the things Davio's is known for is being a steakhouse, but none of us ordered any steak so I can't speak to that part of the Davio's experience. I would definitely recommend Davio's if you're looking for a dressy night out in a elegant, spacious restaurant that can accommodate large parties and rocks a dessert cart. read more

My boyfriend took me here for our anniversary and it was such a lovely evening. The staff are friendly and attentive without hovering and the food is absolutely fabulous. I love that their bread is popovers instead of regular dinner rolls and I swear, that cannoli is the best I've ever had (sorry Mike's). In a word - excellent! The food at Davio's is part work of art and part Italian comfort food. The staff are all experts in the art of service - case in point, "I was running late from a meeting and walked from my hotel to Davio's. I had on jeans and a casual dress shirt. My instant reaction when I entered the restaurant, seeing many of the dinner guests dressed in a more elegant fashion than myself, was to comment to the maître d', "I think I am under-dressed." His response (without missing a beat), "I think you look great and we are delighted to have you joining us." My goodness - talk about a tone setter for a great evening. I ordered off the dinner menu - but ate at the bar. It was really a wonderful match of flavors, textures and Italian cooking styles. The risotto with lobster was decadent and creamy. The arugula salad was a perfect bitter-sweet accompaniment to the stretch, and finally the desert - oh my goodness. With each course I had a wonderfully paired wine. Davio's is not a "three times a week" kind-of-place, but oh my goodness is it worth it for a holiday splurge, business dinner, or a celebratory meal. read more

Billed as North Italian steakhouse, meaning higher dollar. Honestly, Olive Garden is significantly better. First thing of note is about 50 dishes on the menu. No one can that many high quality dishes. It showed upon consumption. My sons both ordered spaghetti with basil for 20 per. A meatball (one) was an extra 6 dollars. At the guess of 8 meatballs/point, that would put the price at 48/pound. My son had to ask for extra basil since he could not detect it in his meal. I took a bite and hardened back to elementary cafeteria style days. The tomato basil soup my Mom ordered was very bland. I was sensing door and cut my looses with a very mediocre spinach salad. Only bright side is fairly nice decor and solid service. Prediction is out of business by end of year, because expensive Italian restaurants need to really bring it to survive. read more

Arrived for lunch. Springrolls are good. Chicken liver appetizer mm mm great - not too liver-ly, a little crunch, a little sweet but a huge plate so get it to share amongst many. Main I got the scallop salad. It was just OK. The scallops were delicious really but the salad was nothing exciting and a bit droopy. Dessert, hands down, get the Pancotta. Is it just me or was that the best berries I've had in years? I don't even like berries. Nice bar separated from the dining hall - great for after work drinks. Fantastic service. Beautiful room. It was a warm day. It shouldn't be warm inside. It was a problem. The staff and waiter all recognized it. "I'm sorry, yes it is warm" shouldn't be the norm. Food ok. Service ok. Our waiter was trying, and nice, but I had to go to the bar for the second round of drinks. Bar was great. Drinks were great. We left before ordering main course after two starters. It was just too warm inside. Customers dressed in T-shirt's, shorts and flip flops didn't enhance the experience. My wife in a dress was the first to notice. Why men wear flip flops to a nice dinner restaurant I'll never know. I dont want to see that. Perhaps the restaurant does not have a dress code. I was hoping for much better. My husband and I graced Davio's with our presence during Restaurant Week. The bread was good. My husband went crazy for the ricotta cheese dip and the olives. I was boring and went for the white bean dip. Apps were good; I had the corn clam chowdah and my hubs had the roasted beet salad with gorgonzola. Entree: This was where my taste buds took a nosedive into the unpleasant world of mushrooms. My entree had mushroom risotto with pan roasted chicken breast. The risotto was good, but the mushroom was a bit much. I thought I was taking a nice bite of chicken, and it ended up being a huge wad of mushroom. I mean, it's good for mushroom lovers, but no other entrees appealed to me on the menu. Chicken was good! Hubs had the pasta dish...which he happily devoured. I tried it...quite tasty!! Today was my first time at Davio's to go. I didn't know what to expect. I ordered the Portobella Mushroom sandwich (grilled w/ Provolone Cheese, Red Pepper Aioli, and French Bread) and the vegetable minestrone soup. I took the first bite of the sandwich and almost died b/c it was so good. It was piping hot, the cheese was melted perfectly, oozing out the sides.... It was, without question, one of the best grilled sandwiches I've ever had in my life! Two thumbs waaaaay up. It's the perfect sandwich for vegetarians AND meat-eaters. It's that good. Seriously. I really like Davios. Davios is my go-to pre-Boston Marathon dinner. Why? --They easily accommodate a big group (we usually have 8-14). --Great breadth of menu, so there is something for everyone--pasta, risotto, fish, meat. --The food is really clean, fresh, well put together Italian food (not cutting edge creative but above average interesting). --Super nice and professional waitstaff. --They are very nice to children--we bring well mannered kids, and the restaurant has some crayons and coloring stuff--many high end restaurants either chase off or ignor kids, Davios likes them! I've eaten at Davios before 4 Marathons and brought groups each time--and we've all been happy! read more

How have I not written a review for Davio's yet? This has become a regular quarterly dining place for a good friend and I. The menu is ridiculously extensive, which is generally a red flag for me, however, everything I have eaten here has been fantastic. Also--the bread. Omg. Buttery, fluffy amazingness. Round two, please. Service is wonderful, complete with napkin folding while you excuse yourself to the restroom.
