We reserved a table for two people on OpenTable right at opening 5pm and we were seated when they opened. The inside is nicely decorated and has a few tables outside near the entrance. We were seated inside in an area towards the back near the kitchen. We appreciated the fast service and large portions. We got the crispy brussel sprouts which were delicious, the Schmaltz fried rice and Orange chicken which are also great. The portions were so large that we had a lot of food to pack. For the bill, they automatically added a 20% tip and 5% for employee benefits. The total for the food and one drink and including the 25% was around $88.
I stopped in to DanDan the other night for dinner and absolutely loved it. I sat at the bar and the two bartenders working that night were incredible at efficiently making drinks for the restaurant while also making the guests at the bar feel taken care of. I had the Singapore noodles for my main, which was outside of what I normally would have tried, but I loved the curry flavor with the char sui pork. I had the Ric's Got Flair to drink, which is their version of a whiskey sour, which was delightful. If I lived in Milwaukee, I would come regularly!
WOW! That food was the best I've had in a really long time. We ordered the pork sichuan dumplings - so flavorful! Then the smashed cucumbers that were light and tasty. They came with peanuts which I had never had before but LOVED the combo. Then we had the Dan Dan noodles which were meaty, and the peppers were spicy! I really liked the flavor, it had more curry in it than I expected. Finally we ended with the beef chow fun. It had these thick, delicious rice noodles YUM in still thinking about it. I think the dumplings and the beef chow fun were easily the best. This place has peanuts in most dishes I would stay away from here if you have an allergy. ALSO, portions are big here - the staff recommends sharing everything and I totally agree. The ambiance is very nice, it's lower lighting and is great for a dinner with your girlfriends or significant other. I loved the decorations! Our server was super nice and the food runners were super helpful! I will definitely be back again.
The vibes inside are incredible & some of the food is great, some is average. We loved the flavors of the Mongolian beef but the pad Thai left something to be desired.
Most of the restaurants we dine at are usually the result of someone else's recommendation, so we typically have high expectations. I don't often give a 2-star rating to these restaurants, so I was sad that our experience here was so disappointing. We had 5:15 reservations on a Wednesday evening. There were not too many people there when we arrived, and we got seated right away. The last time we were at this location, it was the "Tulip" restaurant, which served excellent Mediterranean cuisine. Food: To start, we ordered a couple of specialty cocktails: the Island Magic #815 for me and Murphy's Law for her. Both of these were delicious. For food, we decided on the Dill Dumplings, Pad Thai, and Rice Cakes & Pork Belly. They serve everything tapas-style, so each dish should be at optimum temperature when it comes out. The Dill Dumplings arrived first. They were flavorful, with an excellent mix of flavors. I'm not sure if this is intended, but they are heavily seared on only one side. They need to be eaten whole; otherwise, the halves deconstruct and you end up having to chase the escaped meat around the plate. Is this a serious issue? Only if you want to keep all the flavors together for the most satisfying bite. The Rice Cakes & Pork Belly came next. On the first bite, you are overwhelmed by how salty this dish is. The flavors are excellent with the exception of the salt. The textures are good too, other than how rubbery the rice cakes were. The server noted this when we ordered, but instead of "rubbery," she said "chewy." I like chewy. This was definitely rubbery. This dish was painful to eat because it could have been just so much better. The last dish to arrive was the Pad Thai. It was good, but not remarkable. After our meal, we wanted to end on a high note with dessert. We love crème brûlée, and they had a mango version. Great combination! When it arrived, it was a BIG bowl with a nicely caramelized top. It had a satisfying snap when you pushed your spoon through it. But underneath, there was no firm custard. It was literally a bowl of mango soup. This is not an exaggeration. It was so loose that you couldn't keep it on the small spoons. So disappointing. Service: Everyone we interacted with during the meal was kind and pleasant. We enjoyed the service at our table. The server and the food runners did a nice job with our orders, drinks, and food. They were eager to answer our questions and make suggestions. When we mentioned the issues we had with our food, I wasn't sure they were enthusiastic about relaying our concerns to the kitchen. Both the Rice Cakes & Pork Belly and the crème brûlée were a bit of an embarrassment. Without us asking, they did offer to take the dessert off the bill. We are not in the business of negotiating the price of a bad meal, so the entire situation was uncomfortable. Atmosphere: The interior of the place is really well done. It definitely gives you the vibe of Asian food, but with a twist. I have not been to Asia, but I could imagine this restaurant fitting in. There are plenty of interesting things to look at, with hanging pictures, ceramics, and quirky tchotchkes. We were surprised by how bad our experience was. With the owners (Dan & Dan) being mentioned in many local food articles, I expected much better. With that in mind, we are not planning to go back.
My friends from Madison and I have been dying to grab dinner here so it was a big deal when our many texts about "dinner at Dan Dan" left the group chat and became a Saturday night reality. I'll start with what we liked - the ambiance, the location in the historic Third Ward (although finding street parking close by can be tricky on a weekend), the service. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu which is always appreciated and makes for a better dining experience. When we arrived we had a reservation so it was nice to have zero wait time. We were led back to our table and ordered drinks. The non-alcoholic menu was slim on options but the options were creative. We were told dishes are made to be shared so we ordered a few bigger dishes and the kimchi pancakes. When the kimchi pancakes came out it was nice that they were deconstructed so you could build your own as you like. Kimchi can be an acquired taste so I personally liked being able to control how much I had in each bite. The other dishes were large. These are not shareable dishes- they are legt. main courses. The Mongolian beef was ok. It had a lot of vegetables and color which was nice. The Mapo Tofu dish was a let down. It kills me to say that but it tasted funky. It was a strange flavor and not a good one. On the menu, this dish has three chili peppers next to it which the server told us indicated that it is one of the spiciest dishes on the menu. It had zero heat and zero spice. I asked for some chili crunch to add on top which I also thought fell flat on flavors. The flavors all around just weren't jiving for me. And there was fresh cilantro (maybe?) on top which did not help the situation. In hindsight the Top Chef coverage of Dan Dan and hype in the local media made us think every dish here was going to be amazing and unfortunately we didn't think so. I don't need to return any time soon.
Visited on a Monday night at 6pm and the room was packed. The sichuan pork dumplings ($15) and short rib potstickers ($16) were flavorful, but small in serving. The dough of the potstickers were dry and chewy like they hadn't been cooked enough, but were accompanied by an incredibly tasty sauce. The CUMIN BEEF SLAP NOODLES ($23) were 10/10 - changed my life. The beef was tender, not chewy, and rich in flavor which complimented the soft biang biang noodle. Happy chicken ($22) was spicy, as expected, with a sweet sauce, but not the most captivating dish on the menu. The mango crème brûlée ($13) flavor was too intense for me. It tasted like fake mango flavoring. Would recommend the island magic cocktail ($15) and lucky Buddha beer ($7). They were out of Sapporo which was disappointing for an Asian based restaurant. Our server, Nicholas, was fantastic - attentive and friendly! The ambiance is pleasant and cozy.
When you first walk into DanDan, you're welcomed with an abundance of plants where the host brings you to your table. We made reservations, so we were sitted pretty quick. Upon being sitted we were greeted and helped by our server, Peyton, who was beyond helpful. Gave us suggestions of the best sellers, as well as, his personal favorites. He was friendly and quick to clear our table or help us with anything we needed. My friend and I started dinner with the Sichuan Pork Dumplings and two mocktails; Company Refresher and Puttin' on the Spritz. The Sichuan Pork Dumplings were so good. Can't go wrong with Dumplings and chili oil. The sauce was so good, we ended up saving it to pair with our rice dish. The two mocktails were amazing as well. Of the two, the Company Refresher was my favorite as it, tasted like strawberry soda. For the main course, we got the Happy Chicken, Glass Noodle Stir Fry, and the Beef Chow Fun. All of the dishes were amazing! The Happy Chicken was not too spicy and was nice and crispy, it also came with a side of rice. My favorite was the Glass Noodle Stir Fry. The noodles were chunky and chewy. I loved the mixed of vegetables within the dish. The Beef Chow Fun was also an amazing dish. I felt like we had more beef than noodles mixed in it. Overall, everydish did not disappoint! Definitely will come back to try the other dishes and maybe some of their drinks!
I LOVE DanDan. The restaurant is such a cool concept and the food is amazing. I have been here many of times and have never tried a menu item I disliked. They have the best crab ragoons in the Milwaukee and I love the walnut shrimp. The service is always fast and the drink menu has alcohol options, NA options, and THC options. I also enjoy their Friday lunch buffet for those that want to try many of their food options.
It's my mistake for not doing my homework on a restaurant. In the past it's been mentioned that DanDan was a very good restaurant to patronize. But in my opinion $30 for a Friday lunch buffet is very very expensive and it's my fault for checking the prices before hand. No wonder it was not very busy plus the impression that I got was that you needed a reservation on the OpenTable App upon arrival Service was excellent for this timeframe It's all street parking but a parking lot is available after 5 PM for the dinner service Would I come back to try the dinner menu is probably not unless someone else invites and or treats me to dinner here plus 5% service charge is added to help pay for employees benefits but can be removed if requested Since there is no Asian restaurant close by they can charge the prices they want most likely
The 90 mile trip to Milwaukee for their Peking Duck medley was SO worth it! Maybe the best I've ever had. Just do it and don't look back. Hint: be sure to call a day or two ahead and reserve your duck as they often sell out! Thanks to Maggie for her help and mixology and to Annabelle for outstanding service and a great after-dinner reco!
We have been wanting to try DanDan after seeing Dan on Top Chef Wisconsin this past summer. The service was excellent, and the waitress was a stitch. Kept us smiling and well attended. We started out with potstickers and crab rangoons, the flavors and the sauce were wonderful, we both had a cocktail that were unique and good For dinner, we split a happy chicken, caramelized, spices with signature peppers were delicious. I have to admit I love spice for flavor and the balance of spices were wonderful ....Very flavorful and Not too hot. We opted for a shared dessert of mango crème brûlée ... Yum. Would I go back? Yes, was it overly crowded? No, we were seated quickly. Definitely five out of five.
Wanted to try something new in Milwaukee, and I kept seeing Dandan pop up on social media--so of course, we had to try it. We got there about 20 minutes after opening. The minute we walked in, a man sitting next to the hostess--who appeared to be part of the restaurant, not a customer--just stared at us. No greeting, no smile... just staring. The hostess also seemed a bit confused when we walked in. She asked if we had reservations; we said no. Then she asked if a high-top table was fine, as if the restaurant were packed. We agreed, assuming there would be a long wait for a regular table. But as she led us over, there were plenty of regular tables available. So right off the bat, the vibe wasn't particularly welcoming. As for the service, the waitress did a great job with the welcome and checked on us at a perfect pace. We also liked the decor--plenty of cute design elements that would make for great photos and draw people in. The menu was well done too: not overwhelming, just the right amount of variety in each category. Honestly, this part is why I gave the place more stars than I probably should have. As for the food, it was just okay for us--though that may have been due to what we ordered. There were only two of us, and we got three dishes: shrimp fried rice, beef chow fun, and kung pao chicken. We thought that would give us a good variety. The food had good flavor, but all three dishes tasted very similar. If you try these same dishes elsewhere, the flavors are usually more distinct. I do wish we had tried more of the appetizers and drinks--maybe that would have changed our rating a bit.

One of the first places my boss told me to try upon moving to MKE and immediately realized why. It feels like a modern and American spin on the Chinese food experience with some fun and bright cocktails. The food is what sells it however as the beef and broccoli was some of the best I've ever had. The crab rangoons and the Szechuan dumplings were equally amazing. Truly one of the better places I've had the pleasure of dinning at will be back as many times as I'm able to find my way to it. read more

We finally tried Dan Dan for the first time and man, we should've done that much sooner. Service was fast, friendly, no over bearing and really added to a lovely dinner. Plenty of options for all types of dietary restrictions and food allergies. We'll definitely be going back! read more
Veggie dumplings were the highlight of the night, very small serving but excellent! Crab Rangoon presentation was superb but flavors fell short. Pork belly was a huge disappointment, mushy texture and the meat wasn't crispy at all. Shrimp fried rice totally missed the mark #not fried rice. Hostess was rude. Server seemed like she didn't have time for us. Table were so close together. Bathroom was clean. Food runners were super nice. Cool place, we were sat at a high top, no choice given. Very small table but we made it work. Don't plan on going back. read more
Finally tried @dandanmke yesterday! How am I just now trying this place? Heaven. Yall, no joke, this was amazing. Asian fusion is a favorite of mine, so I have been dying to try this place for a while. It lived up to all of the hype. 1. Atmosphere: 10/10. The vibes were intimate, warm. Beautiful Asian decor, notes of red across the rooms. We have a two year old daughter, so they got bonus points for being so accommodating. 2. Service: 100/10. Will was our server, I have never met a server that makes you feel like a best friend. He greeted us with the most chill demeanor, checked on us just the right amount of times, engaged with our daughter and dealt with typical two year old behavior with charm. Simply amazing. There was also another waitress that talked with our daughter throughout our visit and brought her a "surprise" of fortune cookies in a rice to-go container. This made my daughter's day! My mama mind was so relaxed. 3. Drinks: 10/10. My husband and my mom got dirty martinis. I got the T-H-Tea "mocktail", which had 10mg THC, rishi black tea, lemon, and peach puree. It was so refreshing and delicious. It gave me the perfect "high", very relaxed and still able to function normally. Very important with a toddler 4. Food: 11/10. Like I said above, DELICIOUS. We shared all small plates and entrees so we could try multiple, different items. We started with the egg rolls (not our favorite, personally... but could see how many would love them) and the crab rangoons (okay, we could've ordered so many more of these. They were THAT good. The fresh crab flavor, which is rare for rangoons, put this dish over the top). Next, we ordered the shrimp fried rice (hands down, my favorite fried rice in the city. The fried egg was cooked just right, the aioli was perfection, the shrimp was fresh, and the flavors meshed so well). Finally, we tasted the orange chicken (comes with a very generous bowl of sticky rice, the orange flavor was divine) and the sichuan pork dumplings (such a fun twist on traditional dumplings that I am used to, but wow it was delicious. A bit spicy, but very bearable!) Overall, this place will be at the top of my recommendations list! read more

The experience was underwhelming overall. Most of the dishes were noticeably oversalted, which unfortunately extended to the service as well. My date and I arrived with high expectations and perhaps that set us up for disappointment. If you're simply looking to satisfy a craving for Asian fusion, this place might do the trick; however, I wouldn't recommend it for a special occasion or if you're hoping to impress someone. We ordered the Beef Chow Fun, as we were told it was the only dish with noodles made in-house. While the beef itself was impressively tender and flavorful, the noodles were disappointingly gummy and overcooked. Adding to the letdown, we requested an indoor two-top but were declined, despite those tables remaining empty throughout our visit. That kind of experience leaves diners feeling both confused and unwelcome. At this price point, one reasonably expects a combination of delicious food and warm, attentive hospitality. This is absolutely some of the best Asian I've ever had! For sure one of the best in the city, and I've tried manyyyy places. Everything is meant to be shared and they bring each dish out as they are done. We ordered the crab rangoons for an appetizer. They were a bit on the small side but the amount of filling made up for it. 8/10 I ordered the beef chow fun and it was so delicious. It was packed with flavor and the broccoli was cooked perfectly. 9/10. My boyfriend got the orange chicken which was also amazing. The chicken was really crispy and the sauce had a nice orange flavor but not super strong like some other places. 9.5/10 The service was decent. A little slow at times but the food definitely outshined that. I will be back for sure! read more

Cool vibe - chill music and lower lighting. Very enticing menu, definitely a lot I would come back to try. I think the Friday Buffet would be ideal - the dinner menu added up quickly for what we got. We have been looking for a new favorite Asian-fusion dinner sort in MKE for a few years now and had basically given up hope. However, we gave DanDan a try tonight...AND IT HAPPENED! We have a new favorite Asian-fusion spot and we CANNOT wait to return again in future weekends! From the moment we walked in, we were treated kindly and warmly welcomed by the service staff. And what an adorable space. From the decor, plants, and overall ambiance, you truly enter a holistic dining experience from the moment you enter. Reasonable prices, clean facilities, and great hours definitely exemplify DanDan! Once seated for our reservation, we knew that we need the Sichuan Pork Dumplings. They were so so so good, but full of spice. Yum! For meals, my husband got the Happy Chicken and I got the Mongolian Beef. We both loved our meals. However, we each had several bites of the other person's dish and debated whether or not we wanted the other person's dish. In the end, we just decided that the food is epically excellent and anything we could get would be delicious. Thus, we just needed to come back in the future and try additional dishes. Dandan isn't authentic chinese food by any means, more like a chinese fusion but still a good spot with a well decorated interior. service was prompt and our waiter came by several times to check on us. Smashed cucumbers were very different & a bigger portion than what I expected. Dumplings were mid, wish they were larger esp for the price point. Singapore noodles were good but REALLY salty. I was guzzling water and I've had much better char siu in my noodles. the creme brulee was probs my fav dish, would recommend ending this for dessert for a light option read more

I haven't watched Top Chef but had heard a lot of raving reviews of Dan Dan so when my friend was in town I decided to check it out. I loved the vibes of the place, the decor was great! It was super simple to make a reservation and even though we were 10min early we were still sat and didn't have to wait. Took some time to get our apps ordered but after that the veg momos came out pretty quick and they were delicious. We then got our drinks and put in our entree orders. Problem came with the timing of the entree delivery. I got the Mapo Tofu and he got the Orange Chicken and his dish did not come out for 8-10 minutes after mine was given. It was all DELISH but the timing being wrong made the awkward "I want to eat before this gets cold but don't want to be rude" look I had to give my friend. Overall great food but the timing of food arriving could be fixed. Would come back again but maybe get an order to go or just order everything at once! read more
We had been meaning to hit up DanDan since before the Top Chef hype and finally got the chance when visiting this month. We were there on a Friday and wanted to try a few things so hit the buffet. The staff, restaurant, and area around it are all fantastic and really nice. The buffet itself is standard "Chinese-american buffet" stuffs but done well. They keep the trays small so there's never anything sitting out too long. The downside is that they're often empty until someone notices and refreshes them. The crispy rice and cucumber salads were my favorites by far. An explosion of flavors and textures that made the whole eating experience pretty great. Next were a bunch of your standard lo mein, bbq sauced beef, fried rice, pad see ew, and kung pao tofu. All of this I'd call "unremarkable". It's just really heavy, sweet flavors used to pad out a buffet so folks don't eat too much of the expensive stuff. I'll say that the noodles in the pad see ew were a really nice texture. Nothing was spicy at all. The wings were super tender and had a nice dry rub coating that kept them crisp. I didn't have any of the egg rolls since they live along side rice in my "never eat at a buffet" list but I heard they were good. I'd be interested to try their real menu at some point but the buffet was decent. I'd recommend to try it once but probably won't be back unless they add a bit more variety beyond noodles and rice. When everyone is buzzing about a restaurant, I don't always believe the hype. I have to rely on my trusted foodie advisors beyond the Yelp Elite: my cousins! DanDan came highly recommended by these tough critics. The first time I came here, it was a bit of a rough night. Our server was awesome, but the kitchen was slow and backed up. Summerfest was going on and it did not have a good impact on the restaurant. Our food was decent, but I was a underwhelmed. But I believe in second chances. I came back with one of the foodie cousins and had an entirely different experience. Things were humming at the restaurant. We ordered lots of apps to share - crab rangoon, pot stickers, Thai chicken bao, and the wok fried broccoli. For our main entrees, we shared the Mongolian beef, fried rice and veggies. Cocktails were on point - I had Bulma's Delight. Yum! I love the look and feel of the restaurant. The decor gives a kitschy American-Chinese vibe - take out container, lucky cat, fortune cookie... This was definitely worth my second visit. I will be back to try the rest of the menu! read more

I was excited to try this place when visiting MKE for a few days. I made a reservation in advance, not sure it was needed on a weeknight but didn't hurt! We were seated quickly inside and the place has a super cute vibe - definitely bustling and thus a bit loud. We ordered drinks and several plates for the table to share. Food came quickly (though before drinks, ah well) and we enjoyed everything! We tried the cumin lamb dumplings, general tsos cauliflower, kimchi pork belly rice cakes and of course the name sake - Dan Dan! I would order all the dishes again with the exception of (shockingly!) the Dan Dan. It was fine - but lacked a little spice/flavor in comparison to the other dishes. read more
My fiancé asked me for my top 3 Milwaukee restaurants I want to go to, this was on my list after I rooted for Dan all season long on Top Chef. We came here for my birthday & it did not disappoint at all. Cool interior, cool place, great location, & amazing food....at an affordable price. We started with the Wok Fried Broccoli & it was delicious. Lots of sauce but not overly powering at all. My fiancé got the Pad See Ew with Chicken. Honestly never heard of it but the noodles were amazing. I had bites of hers & again great sauce but still not overpowering. I got the Happy Chicken entree & it was great. Large portion size & side of rice. I just mixed the rice into the chicken bowl. Delicious!!! Great cheat meal & large amount of chicken. Most restaurants would mix the chicken & rice to hide how little chicken you get. Here, you get a massive portion of chicken. One unique thing is that your food is brought to you when it is finished in the kitchen. They don't wait for both meals to be done to bring both. This is great because it will be arriving to the proper temperature. Only Down side is that I eat my food faster than my fiancé & her food took more time. So I had to slowly cut up the chicken so I don't finish my food so much sooner than her. Not an issue in the end bc we somewhat shared hers & she had bites of mine read more

Food: The Crab Rangoon at DanDan is, hands down, the best I've ever had. It's crispy and crunchy on the outside with a generous, flavorful dollop of filling on the inside. And it's served super hot -- no weird gummy texture that can happen to wonton wrappers when they cool down. The sweet and sour sauce was just that, and complimented the appetizer perfectly. We gave the Chicken Wings a shot for a second appetizer and they were solid. The rub packed just a bit of heat and the green sauce paired with it was a little spicy as well, but with a deep herby and smoky flavor. I wasn't totally in love with the wings, so I don't think I'd order them a second time. I went ahead and gave the Orange Chicken a shot at the advice of our server and loved it. The dish came with a side of sticky white rice, which was a great addition. Somehow the chicken was both crispy and hot while still being super saucy? I'm not sure how they pulled that off, but it was such a delight. The herbs, orange slices, and sesame seeds made for a beautiful dish. My partner, who I shared with, did point out that the breading on the orange chicken was a little bit hard in some points, possibly due to an uneven fry. I did pick up on that with my next bite but it wasn't a huge deterrent. My partner tried the Chicken Pad See Ew and said it was his favorite thing we tried all night. With so many colors, textures, and ingredients, the dish was stunning. Personally, I'm not a fan of shiitake mushrooms, so I didn't love the dish like my partner did. But he said he'd definitely order it again. Service: Our server Andrew did a nice job. It took a little bit for him to come greet us, but he was knowledgeable about the menu and was pretty attentive for the rest of our time at DanDan. Ambiance: The vibes here are immaculate. The restaurant is modern but more eclectic than sterile. House plants adorn the entire restaurant, giving it a really organic, comfortable feel. Things to note: We made a reservation for 6:30 p.m. on a weekday, and I would definitely recommend doing the same as we saw a couple walk-ins leave after hearing the wait time. We spent about $85 before tip for two apps, two entrees, and two sodas (no alcohol). There's no designated parking lot, so make sure you arrive a little bit early to find street parking. read more

DanDan is tucked away near Summerfest grounds. We booked a reservation for a party of two the day before (Thursday for Friday) and their first opening was 8:30. They seemed to have a variety of small and large tables. They have a red and black theme that says cool Asian fusion wedding. The server immediately gave us a whole thing of water. The serve was friendly, asked if we had ever been here, and if we had allergies. She did let us know that they encourage sharing and due to the high volume in resturant and take out they can't have all entrees in a party come out at the same time. I appreciate both the honestly and so I can manage my expectations. Also much rather have my dish 5 minutes later than someone's be not hot. As per often I asked the server to tell me their favorite from several options. She had a clear favorite which was helpful to indecisive me. We got the Happy Chicken and Singapore Noodles (pork and shrimp). Maybe 30 minutes for food. The happy chicken is complex flavor with decent spiciness. The heat builds as you eat. Lots of chili, garlic, onion flavor. Crunchy without being dry or too bready. It was good but not great. The Singapore noodle is what I call Thai bbq with the smoky flavor. DanDan has been on my list of places to try since September and then when I saw Dan on Top Chef, I needed to make sure to check it off the list sooner than later. This week was the week. The entire restaurant was packed, but the service was still impeccable. The portions are large and for sure shareable. Must try dishes include: General tso cauliflower Smashed cucumbers Cumin lamb dumplings Orange chicken I found the pad see ew to be a little overly sweet so could have done without it. I know I'm not the only one influenced by the newest season of top chef, but let me embrace it and say that this place is honestly pretty solid for Americanized Chinese food! Normally you would not catch me at one of these but on the off chance that your city is featured and one of the chefs on there has their own restaurant in said city... I'm going! Make sure you get your reservations in! This place gets buuuuusy. We started off with sesame chicken baos (4/5, really crispy and saucy chicken) and Sichuan pork dumplings (4/5). Both I thought were good and the Sichuan pork dumplings satisfied my cravings. I liked that the pork dumplings were in a more vinegar-y-based sauce, it helped cut some of the greasiness of the other foods we had! For main entrees, my friend and I split the happy chicken (4/5) and Singapore noodles (3/5, wasn't the biggest fan of this and a bit too salty). The happy chicken is not for the weak (those who can't handle numbing). I wouldn't say it was spicy but it does have that traditional sichuan numbing effect. Besides my tongue feeling all types of weirdness, I thought the flavor was great. We had a great time and We had a great time with super knowledgable servers! Arrived fairly late in the night, and was pleased with the service. The food was served quickly. The restaurant was really cold, thought it was just me but everyone had their jackets on, but I loved the decor! Ordered the crab rangoon and would say it was average with not a very distinct flavor/filling. The Kung Pao Chicken didn't have a whole lot of chicken and was more tangy than spicy. The star of the show was the General Tso's cauliflower. The crunch held even covered in the sauce. It was a perfect balance of the sweet/sour/spicy. read more
Surprisingly authentic vegan ma po tofu in Milwaukee! After seeing that their menu had a bunch of vegan options, I put in an online order for their vegan ma po tofu ($16 plus tax), which comes with rice, and it was waiting for me when requested. The portion is large, coming with the signature soft tofu, with plenty of Szechuan peppercorns, peanut, green onions, and ground homemade seitan that added a nice dimension. Moderately spicy, about on par for the dish. I was quite impressed. I'd definitely return to try their other vegan items, but I would for sure order this again. read more
We were visiting from Alabama and this was our number one spot to try. Highly recommend getting a rez but we missed that window. Walked up right before opening and got a table immediately. We started with cocktails and Szechuan dumplings and they were our favorite food of the night! We ordered three orders. Food is served as soon as it's ready and they recommend family style. I got the pork bao buns and they were huge!! I loved the sweet sauce. My husband had the salt and pepper chicken fried rice and it was heavenly. Perfect blend of spices and heat. I don't know if they do or not but I didn't have the usual msg feeling if there was.
Will you bring the hot and sour soup back soon? It's by far one of our favorites and all my boyfriend wanted after getting surgery :(
