I hate moving. I used to do it myself, but the older I get the less likely I am going to get help from my friends. They have their own lives and as we get older, payments of beer and pizza no longer hold any value. People want cold hard cash or a promise of a favor I will never be able to return. Then there's the issue of their wives/husbands and children. Who will take care of them while they're taking care of me? Not to mention I'm extremely out of shape, and I would probably break myself trying to carry a box of pillows up the stairs. I think I'm at the point where I need to hire professionals. I went against better judgement and called a mover who wasn't the #1 recommended moving company among my peers, mostly because their estimate was lower and I happen to be poor. I'm glad I did. It was a short move, just a few miles down Montrose. It couldn't have gone better. I had to reschedule my move and they had no problem with that. They called me the day before to ask if I wanted to change my move time earlier since they had a cancellation and I gladly agreed. I asked them to come between 9 and 10am and they came at exactly 9:00 and started on the job immediately. Three of them carried down all my stuff in two hours, and unloaded into my new place in an hour and a half. Mind you, this was a 3rd floor to 3rd floor move, so I can imagine how awful it was. So for anyone out there needing to move, skip the beer and pizza. These guys will make life so much easier. read more

We set it up a month before and agreed on a 1-3 pm time slot, and they never showed up. Although we confirmed early in the day, they said they were busy and would eventually get us out. Unfortunately, they never came. When we emailed for an apology, they failed to respond. This business lacked accountability and professionalism for two customers very happy to support a local business. Unfortunately, I have to recommend that you look elsewhere if you'd like a reliable moving company. Lastly, I would recommend filing with the Better Business Bureau, if this company takes down your Yelp review. Since they forgot to pick us up, I've noticed several bad reviews taken down for "violating terms and conditions". read more

We used Daly moving and I found Steve to be honest, fair and accommodating. I had three stops, the first stop was for a couch, the 2nd was my apartment and the 3rd stop was the new place. They do not charge a fee for each building you go to, just for the amount of time it takes, which I think is very fair. They movers were polite, fast and kind. I initially quoted 5 places and Daly Moving and Storage was the cheapest. I definitely feel that I got more than what I paid for. read more

I called them a few weeks ago and confirmed over the phone for my move this coming weekend. I called again this past weekend and their voicemail was full. I tried calling from a different number and the same man answered and said that I wasn't speaking to Daly Movers and that I had the wrong number. He must be the only employer that works there because I definitely recognized his voice. Please please please save yourself the time and don't count of these "guys". They're a joke. I'm so glad I didn't pay upfront, which no one should do without a contract. A good learning experience for sure though. Spend the money with a company that displays professionalism who also care about their business. FYI - I planned on giving zero stars, but Yelp requires at least one. read more

When i needed to have one of my offices moved, Daly moving & storage got me set up with a good day for me to move. They were accommodating in that sense, adapting to my schedule. When they did arrive, they moved all of my things quickly and professionally. I prodded minimal guidance and yet they seemed to know what I really wanted. Just as their slogan says, they made it seem like moving was just another day. read more

I was referred Daly Moving & Storage through Pack & Load Services when moving. This was a rough experience for my packing and loading services. They rushed and loaded my items, a 1-day job stretched out to 3-days. Steve Daly had informed me that he had other jobs, "high paying high priority," which is why my job was delayed for 3 days. Over all I was not pleased nor will I recommend Daly Moving & Storage for future business. read more

Contacted Daley Moving 2 times, trying to get information about available moving dates, rates, etc - nothing too difficult (I thought). BOTH times the owner said he was "on his cell - can I call you back when I get to the office? I can give you details then." Never heard from them again. Must be nice to turn away business. read more

Finding good movers is like finding the right hair dresser. Your stuff is important and you don't want just anyone tossing it from one place to the next. These guys were great, helpful, and fast. They were able to move all my stuff without damaging any of it, they were friendly the entire time, and extremely hard working. I've recommended them to others who I know are moving soon and will more than likely use them again in the future. read more

So surprised by the 4 star reviews. It must be hit or miss with these guys. For my wife and I, the experience was awful. We have worked with another company a few times, but they were booked for our moving weekend, so I tried Daly. Thinking that it would be nice to use neighborhood movers. First, we scheduled with them for second run on a Saturday. I was awoken to loud knocking on my door at 7AM (first run) the Saturday before we were scheduled. They said they must have "gotten the wrong ticket" and left. I wondered if they would even be back on the right day. Fortunately, they did come back, but with the smaller size truck, instead of the full-size we had booked. Long story short: it took two trips instead of one. We had three movers. One who was excellent. One who was OK, but who catcalled just about every girl who walked past our new place while he was at the truck. Great first impressions with our new neighbors. The third mover was "past his prime" with bad knees and constantly took breaks. I worked harder myself than during any of our other moves to try and speed things up. Some of our stuff was dirty and sweaty from their handling. It took more time than they quoted, which meant that it cost more (even though they did credit us half an hour for the second trip we weren't supposed to take). I would not use these guys again and would recommend strongly looking elsewhere for your movers. read more

My boyfriend and I moved in over Memorial Day weekend ad assumed the whole task would be daunting because we were moving two different places into one. Not only were the movers on time, fast, and efficient, they were friendly and pleasant. We even got a call from the owner, Steve, the next day asking us how our experience was. The next move, I'm totally using them again!! read more

AWESOME!!! AWESOME!!!! AWESOME!!!! These movers are off da charts!!!! I called Steve for a New Years Eve move from the west side of Chicago to round lake beach Illinois not only did my fantastic movers Dave, Joe and Matt have me packed up and ready to go within 30 minutes they completed the whole move including the hour travel time to round lake in under 3 hours the price with tip was under my budget. I will never hire any other moving company but Daly and if they no longer exist by the time I move again then I wont be moving... They are just that awesome!!!!! read more

I recently hired Daly Moving for my move. These guys arrived at 9am on the dot like we had scheduled. They were quick and efficient, completing the move in 3 hours. Very professional and friendly. Will use them again in the future. read more

They got to my place a few minutes early, which is a first for any mover I've hired in the past. They were friendly and professional, were very careful with everything and completed the move earlier than expected. I'd recommend them to anyone. Thanks guys! read more

EDIT TO ADD the names of our movers - Brent, Billy, and Steve!

Overall a great experience. The movers arrived early and began working very quickly. They were willing to disassemble or assemble any piece of furniture. If they didn't know where something went they asked. They also came within the quote range that i received when they came out to estimate. I would recommend them for any move great company to work with. read more

Daly movers was a class act from start to finish. We were able to book them on short notice (three days). We had a short move from Edgewater to Uptown. They were prompt and thorough, and very polite. They even took some furniture that we planned to donate because they said they had local charities that they made regular drop-offs to. We used them to move 2 rooms of furniture and it was about 3 hours worth of work. We live on a narrow street and the front stairs are better for moving, so they did have some trouble with the jerks in my neighborhood beeping incessantly at them, even though they could get around the truck if they just paid attention. I would definitely use them again as my go to moving company. read more

I recently had a moving disaster when the company I had previously scheduled for my move did not show up to the job. I scrambled on craigslist before getting a referral for Daly Moving and Storage. Steve was extremely professional from my very first phone call with him and I immediately knew that I was dealing with someone who knew the moving business well. His rates are very fair. You can find cheaper movers on craigslist, but you will not be getting the expertise that Steve has to offer. You will also not have the piece of mind that the job is going to be done RIGHT and ON TIME. Thank you to Steve and his crew for helping me (even on such short notice). I will certainly use you in the future and will highly recommend you to friends and family. read more

Hard working, professional movers. Their prices are very competitive. They were friendly, didn't waste time and careful during the move. Would highly recommend. read more

This was my first time using movers and it was so weird to stand by and watch other people move my sh*t. But at the same time, it was wonderful. The guys from Daly are the real Chicago deal, complete with accents and attitudes. Not only did they move my stuff quickly and efficiently - and without so much as a scratch on anything - but they kept me entertained the whole time. I hope I don't have to move again for a long long time, but I'd use them again in a heartbeat! read more

I severely underestimated the work of moving my place. Even still, Daly Movers were courteous, professional, quick, and efficient. I spent the whole night before DREADING moving day, and in the end it went easy and quick. The cost was lower than what other movers quoted me. I even threw in a tip because I appreciated the awesome work they did. They work hard, and I was really happy to give them my business. I will recommend them to my friends, and will use them again the next time I move. read more

We moved yesterday, it went like clockwork. The guys arrived on time, and after introductions Mitch, Brent, and Gary got to work. They were efficient, friendly, and hard working, they loaded the truck in little over an hour!! I will definitely be using and recommending Daly Moving. read more

Corey and Brent did a fantastic job with moving me to a storage unit this afternoon. They were very quick and friendly. Still impressed how they were able to get everything in that storage unit so perfectly!! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was there must have been some miscommunication about the start time, but after they got started it took them no time at all!! Will definitely use again!! read more

The best I ever used. So used them for a 2nd move and they were just as great. Will use them again. Nothing broke, they work fast and hard, very friendly, great prices. They did not try to cheat me, change the price in the middle of the move or overcharge me like has happened in the past. As a single female it happens often that people try to take advantage of me knowing there's no man to back me up. Really. Female equality is still a work in progress. ilana chicago read more

Moved a small 2BR on 1st floor to a bigger 2BR on a 2nd floor .5 mi away. These guys were ultimately really great. On a hot day, they moved very quickly and their experience was easy to identify. Organized, ready to adjust, and kept each other in a good mood and safe. They were gracious about the tips & cold drinks, communicated with us the whole time, made sure their choices about placement were OK, and all the other good things you hope for in a move. There's not much to criticize here, but I'll be clear about why it's not five stars: Half a star off for no confirmation email ahead of time, when Steve Daly promised it on several phone calls. I understand it's the busiest time of year, but when a business owner promises something to a client, they should deliver it. With all the horror stories all over the web about independent movers, a short confirmation email with the details would have gone a long way towards calming my anxiety. Steve was really great on the phone, even when he was clearly worn out from working, but I'm a big written record kind of guy. Half a star off for weird credit card behavior. On the morning of the move, when he called me to confirm (thank you!), Steve said credit cards would "absolutely" be accepted for payment. On arrival, leader of moving team tried to tell me he could only accept cash or check because "the machine [was] down". After I told him I needed to pay by card and that Steve had said it would be fine, it sorta suddenly became OK to pay by card. Sorry guys, but the fact that you take credit cards was one of the reasons I chose Daly Moving. Bait & Switch on payment method is not OK. Card was imprinted at end of move and charged same day. But honestly - I can't ding any more stars than that. These guys really had hustle, didn't seem interested in stretching out the hourly charge, and were really polite when things didn't fit where I originally wanted them. They really were a rockstar team, and are probably your best bet for a relatively inexpensive in-Chicago move. I don't hesitate to recommend them. Do it, hire Daly. read more

Daly movers were very helpful and I was very grateful. They showed up on time and they were very professional. They packed all my stuff which took them a couple hours and woulda took me days, they were very careful with my expensive items. They went above and beyond the things they had to do. I moved from a third floor to another third floor with no elevator they did the moves with no problem. The price for the packing and the two third floor moves was very reasonable. I would recommend them highly .So if you want to use real movers I would call daly movers. They are fast efficient and very professional . Thanks again for making my move stress less . read more

Daly Movers were a couple of hours late, and rather than call me to let me know I had to call the office. Whoever I spoke to in the office was obviously frustrated, and I think he expected me to be mad. I was given a new, exact time they would show up at my storage unit. The crew showed up on time, with one extra man, who I was not charged for. 2 hours later, we were done. 7 x 10 ft storage unit loaded completely on to a truck, and unloaded into my new townhouse apartment. Sofa, bed, dresser, table and chairs, mini fridge, aquarium, etc... No problem. These guys worked hard, they were fast, and they were brilliant in their packing. Nothing was broken, and everything ended up where it should be. It took 2 men and a truck around 6 hours to do what Daly Moving & Storage managed (without ripping all of my posters and snagging the carpet at the storage unit - which I'm sure comes out of my deposit. Thanks, 2 Men and a Truck and a bag of Weed) in 2. The crew was pretty hilarious, too. Dare I say, I actually enjoyed this 2 hour portion of my cross-town move? read more

I highly reccomend you look elsewhere! We called Daly Moving & Storage and schedued our move several weeks in advance and they told us they would be there between 12-2pm on the 1st. We called around 10am day of to confirm and were told again they would be there between 12-2pm once they finished with the move before us. When 2pm rolled around we started calling for updates. When we finally got ahold of them we were told they didn't have us booked and that when they confirmed at 10am they read the names wrong. They then told us they were working on a move and would be there by 4:30pm. Well guess again.... they never showed! Are you kidding me? I can only assume a more lucrative job came up or ran over since our move was just a studio apartment they just hung us out to dry. I ended up having to rent a truck and move myself. Just finding a truck on the First was a task in itself. If I could give negative stars for the poor communication and how badly they screwed me I would! read more

They stole all of our belongings after trying to overcharge us for storage. We paid them $300 up front for storage and moving thinking that they were also a storage company. After a week one of their workers, Matt, calls us saying that in order to keep our things in storage we would need to pay an extra $100 that he could pick up anywhere. On top of that, they wanted to charge us an extra $225 for moving our belongings to our new apartment. Because we refused to pay all those charges they took our stuff and threatened to use "voice recordings" against us if we filed a police report. We went ahead and filed it anyway. THEY ARE A SCAM. read more

Loved these guys!!! Great price and great service. It was easy to book the move date and the guys showed up with a huge truck and worked very hard and very quick. They took great care with our items. They were very friendly and professional. Would definitely recommend them to anyone moving! read more

I called Steve about a month before our move to get some information and pricing. He was super helpful and gave me a solid breakdown. Daly offers portable wardrobes for your closet clothes (no additional cost) and ask you to keep all your drawers packed (excluding any non-clothing items) which were two things I really liked. In addition, they have custom pads (included) so you don't have to worry about spending a fortune the day of because the movers say they have to use plastic or padding. The morning of our move Dave, Joe and Marty showed up at my condo in the Daly truck. Dave did a quick walk through with me to assess all the items being moved. The guys then immediately started the process of loading the truck. They were very fast and efficient and made sure to carefully disassemble any items requiring such measures to get through the doorways. All of the guys were friendly and you could tell Dave was very experienced and really knew his stuff! Once we arrived at the new house the unload was fairly easy, I had color coded the boxes for either kitchen, bedroom or family room so that made things pretty straight forward. Any larger or unmarked items the guys would ask for direction on and I would provide. They even helped me out by letting me wipe down a few things before they moved them in the house which I really appreciated. The whole move did take a little longer than I expected, but I take the blame on that. I think I am in denial about how much stuff I have ;) Steve had called me the day before to confirm details and see if I wanted 4 guys instead of 3 and I probably could have taken him up on that. To provide the specs: I moved from a 1 bed 1 bath condo in the city to a house in the suburbs and we started at 8:15 am and were done by 1:30 pm including an hour travel time (not bad at all). Overall, Daly was very professional, the owner and his guys really know their stuff and they work hard (don't forget to tip, I was sure to have cash on hand). I definitely recommend Daly highly and would use them again. read more

Just hired them last weekend and it was a success! They were super quick and got everything to my new place with out any damage. One guy carried an old school tv that must have weighed at least 50lbs on his back...it was insane! Very satisfied and the price was also reasonable. Compared to renting a Uhaul and doing it myself I would glady pay the extra money for them to help. Would recommend them to others and would def hire them again the next time I moved. read more

I used Daly Moving & Storage last weekend. They arrived on time, worked their tails off, and got my wife and I moved into our new place in about 2 hours. Their rates were fair and they seemed to really know what they were doing. I'll use them again for sure. read more

I used Daly moving last year, finally got around to write them a review. I was very happy when I found them. The owner was a no nonsense kind of a guy. They don;t charge separately for tape and boxes that kind of stuff. Their hourly might not be cheapest, but in the end, I think this is the cheapest and most professional option we could have gotten. They guys that moved us were nice and professional. They were real fast. I say we made a good choice. read more

I must say that i was very impressed with Daly Movers. They were on time, and very courteous and helpful with all of my needs. I highly recommend Daly Movers. read more

These guys are SNAKES! Don't waste your money!! We had them move us from the city to the suburbs. They stored our belongings for 1 month. When they came to deliver I noticed a hole in my brand new Crate and Barrel couch. Plus the bottom was torn. I told them on the spot that this couch was brand new and we needed to report this. They didn't hesitate which I thought was a good sign. I received a call from Steve a couple of days later to discuss the situation and was shocked by his response. He said, yeah my guys told me there was a tiny hole in your couch but you could barely see it. I was infuriated!! Yes it's a small hole in a brand new barely used expensive couch! So here we are 10 months later. My husband and I had to pay someone $500 to have that arm of the couch reupholstered and where is Daly? No where to be found! Avoiding us like the plague. What cowards! I'm expecting our 2nd child and have bills to pay and they have the nerve to run off with our $! I am preparing to sue because this is so wrong and so disappointed in the way they've handled this situation. Go somewhere else where they actually stand by their word. These guys suck and Karma's a Bi@ch!!! read more

Would NOT recommend this moving company to my worst enemy! Everything was easy going when scheduled until move day came and they NEVER showed up. Closed on a sale and waited for the Daly Movers to come, but never even received a call. I called after an hour past scheduled time and spoke to John. He told me they ran into trouble, but would be there in one hour. An hour came and passed with no movers and no call. I called again and was told, you guessed it, "an hour". That was there magic number. Guess what? Yep, no show and no call. The new property owner showed up and what a surprise that was for him to see me still sitting in the living room with all my furniture still there. Yeah, awkward. I called again and spoke to Steve who said John went home for the day ( I guess I wasn't that important). Four and one half hours later and still no show, no call. Luckily I actually found another moving company (Liberty Movers) who understood the terrible position I was put in by Daly Movers and sent a truck with three guys to do the move. Nine hours from my originally scheduled move time I was finally out and able to let the new property owner have possession of their place. Daly Movers advertise that they are Dependable. I wonder what dictionary they are actually using. read more
