At the end of the day they did their job and they did it well. But I wouldn't want to hire them again. The leader of our group, I'll call him J, initially refused to wear a mask, defended throwing boxes 6 feet, and he came inside yelling, arguing, accusing us of having a personal problem with him and his team, listing off his credentials like that should impress us, interrupting, and threatened to cancel the move twice. I had to gently talk him down from his agitated state so we could carry on. I felt completely powerless to this person who could cancel my move at any time unless I carefully navigated his angry outbursts. It was stressful and definitely not a customer service experience of any kind. That's the short version. Here's the long version. When they first arrived they started to come into the house and I asked, "Do y'all have masks?" J immediately was defensive and sharp, saying "No we don't have them. You didn't request it." At this time, delta is at its peak and there's a statewide mask mandate. They did put on masks but the argumentativeness from the get-go set a bad tone. J came inside to look around and find the large furniture items I put on my list for the quote. He had his clipboard and a puffed up attitude. All the other guys were chill and seemed nice. J pointed to a cat tree and said "That wasn't on the list." I said "oh I didn't think I needed to make a comprehensive list of every small piece furniture." He replied "yes you did!" If that's the case, okay my mistake. There's a better way to handle that than to act as if I was trying to pull one over on him. Generally the quote is for the number of hours and movers, and they base the time quotes on the number of rooms. I tried to explain this but he interrupted and argued, so I gave up. To their credit, they did end up moving everything and they did itquickly. About 20 minutes later I saw one of the guys throwing boxes out the front door and down the stairs for another guy to catch. They were also picking the boxes up and slamming them on the ground. My boyfriend talked to J and gently asked that they not throw the boxes. J initially started to defend himself, then backed down. But as we walked away he said "wow wow wow" and immediately got on the phone for an angry call with his supervisor. That's when he came inside to "have a word with us." He repeatedly asked if we had a problem with him and his guys. He wouldn't let us respond. Each time we tried he interrupted and dug in. He threatened to cancel the move, before discussing anything with us. I started to use my best de-escalation and active listening and eventually got him to come down. But during this outburst he said: - We had a problem with his guys. -- No, that wasn't personal, we just asked them to wear masks. - We were telling him how to do his job. -- No, we just asked that they not throw our boxes. That's the only feedback we gave him and it was very reasonable. The boxes were packed to be carried not thrown around. We also asked very gently and with respect. -He said in his 5 years doing this he never broke anything. He said we should look at his reviews - only 5 stars. - in fact several things were broken including a shelf we had to throw away. - He said "When I pick up a box, I can tell what's in it. I can tell if it's breakable." -- that's insane, and please don't throw our boxes. - He said that my boyfriend wasn't wearing a mask when they arrived and that was a reason for his guys not to wear a mask. -- That's completely useless argumentation because my boyfriend was outside on the porch of his own home and immediately went inside to put a mask on, which he didn't take off the whole day. - He threatened again to cancel the move. They did carry on, and J calmed down. He later seemed like a completely different person. But the experience was incredibly stressful. I had to work really hard to keep him on our side, and I shouldn't have had to do that. We were kind, polite, welcoming. We tipped, bought them lunch. We tried to stay out of their way. And, after all, we were paying them a lot of money to do a job for us, so if we want them to comply with a public health order and handle our things gently, that's a reasonable request. P.S. I'm posting this almost 2 years later, after moving out of state. I was scared that J would see this and come to my home. He was so angry and volatile, I didn't know if it was safe to post this when he knew where I lived. read more

I do not recommend Pack-Men. I used them because of the good reviews, but was very disappointed. 1) very slow movers. during the move, the movers were incredible unproductive. I had a 3 man team, but I've had 2 move teams in past moves than were much much more efficient. They did a lot of standing around, smoke breaks, and just long periods when I couldn't figure out what (if anything) had been packed up. Because of how slow they were, I cut the move short by asking them not to unpack (as originally planned). Despite, cutting this short AND me helping pack a lot of boxes and carry lots of stuff, the move ended up being 2 hours over the estimate. They did give me a partial refund after I complained - which is appreciated - but i would still not use these movers again. 2) i let the movers borrow by portable speaker so they could listen to music while they worked. The speaker never showed up to my house. when i filed a claim with the moving company, they were not willing to pay me the cost of the speaker. I understand that they cannot be responsible for full liability on everything that is part of the move, but I do think they should be responsible for STUFF THAT I LEND TO THEM. read more

Most important: they did not finish moving and just left mattress, sofa, coffee table, drawers (all these heavy stuffs..) in the garage and left!! We are stupid to pay liars in full before they finish the work 2. Their estimates are far off. We spent $1000 to move a 3 bed townhouse and it is unfinished. 3. We hired three men and a truck. Most of the time, only two men were moving. The third one just stood by and be a commander (i need labor work not a commander！！） 4. They are liars! They said they were tired and want to process the payment and then finish the work. We just want to finish moving as soon as they can. We have used Pack-Men for moves twice. The first move was great. This time, not so much. Now that we're getting settled in, we are discovering more and more items that were damaged, and walls that were heavily scuffed due to carelessness. A lot, and I mean A LOT of our furniture is scratched up. They only took the time to wrap two items. They refused to disassemble our bed frame even though we offered to help, and instead insisted on trying to cram it in one piece through stairways and doorways, doing a decent amount of damage to it and wasting a ton of time along the way. They also left a mess in our new bathroom, which is quite frankly disgusting. We didn't mind that they used it, but a simple wipe down would have been much appreciated. I am perplexed because a vast majority of the reviews and our previous experience point to friendly, competent, and highly professional service. To their credit, they did work hard, and the rates were very fair. Will look elsewhere next time we move. read more

Over all they were decent, but few things got damaged we are slowly discovering now while we unpack. It's mainly carelessness, you just have to instruct them on how to protect your furniture, for example stretch wrap then wrap with padding. I wasn't watching when they packed my couch they just loaded the couch without putting any protection over it. My dining room table got chipped (In the pic covered it with furniture marker) and after going back and forth with the head office they refunded us $75 only, also the tail light was broken off my bike. Then at the end they had to put our bed together, I get it, it was end of the day they were tired, it was a hot day but c'mon just finish the job right, I had to re-tighten the bed after then discovered about 1/3 of the screws missing...argh called the movers no response.... All in all friendly service quick response time. They arrived on time and was efficient. So my advice is get them to stretch wrap and pad wrap your furnitures then you're golden. They went over the paper work and got started right away. They managed to fit everything into the truck, which was impressive. A good friend recommended that I use Pack1Men Movers. I really didn't know what to expect given that I had not moved in 25 years. I really liked the online process for estimating the size of the move. The only problem with the estimate was me. I had no way to know how many boxes. I guessed 35-50 and ended up with over 100. I didn't realize the number of boxes until 2am Ayer packing and forgot to mention it when they called to say they were on their way. The rest of the estimate is as easy because I could just count. Given the information that I put in, they sent 6 guys and 2 trucks. The guys started with boxes and quickly realized that they could not take everything based on having 3-4 times more boxes. Absolutely the worst moving experience I have ever had, and I have moved a lot. Total bait & switch broker who get business by low balling quote up front and then adding to it significantly days before scheduled move knowing you are likely unable to secure another moving option. Tried to raise my quote by $1300...eventually doing so by $900 which was still significantly more then I should pay. Then they sent a different moving company then the one we had initially signed an agreement to use. The movers were horrible on both ends of my move. With the amount of items, they thought it would take 4 hours, but when they came, it only took them 2 hours, from start to finish, and that's all they charged us was 2 hours. So I recently moved and hired the Uber for moving company, Dolly. Let's just say they did a terrible job. Luckily my girlfriend had hired Pack-Men for her move. Everything that Dolly couldn't do for me, the guys at Pack-Men got done. I used this company for a recent medical office move. I had a terrible experience with another mover who had low yelp reviews but was cheaper (they never showed up.). I hired Pack-Men and got an estimate back within 20 minutes of making and inquiry. I was able to schedule a Sunday move within 24hours if the inquiry. The movers showed up ON TIME! They were polite to me (I heard them arguing with one another a little but that's none of my business.). They completed the work in the allotted time period. I tipped them and they were on their way. I got into contact with Pac Men because of a recommendation from a friend.The main thing that happened is that this company lost a box of my clothes (all my expensive workout wear and intimates). Around 1 to 2k worth of apparel. It's devastating and completely unacceptable-- they have one job and that is to get all my stuff in my next home. They're insured only for 30 cents to a pound, so obviously did not get too much back.. they gave me around 75 dollars refund. They also originally quoted me for 750 but ended up charging me 1100 because of time -- the movers took a break that cost us 45 minutes in the middle of the move. Overall, the customer service rep Jeanette was responsive and attentive but personally I think she was not empathetic to the situation. If your moving company loses (not breaks, loses completely) a box of your belongings they were responsible for, good customer service would provide a full refund. While I'm sure some people have wonderful experiences with them, all I can share is my nightmare of an experience. Would not book again. read more

It was time to downsize. I had no idea what to expect. I called and spoke to Jeanny the day before as I was freaking out! She was so calming and reassuring. She said 5 guys were coming with 2 trucks and they were allowing plenty of time. She said they would bring extra boxes and help with packing if needed. And thank goodness they did as my teenager started packing 2 days before! These guys were so friendly they immediately put me at ease. On top of quoting me $110 less than they actually charged, the movers broke my 7 month of Shark vacuum, my 4 month old Rumba vacuum, a crystal lamp from home goods, a DVD case that the guys flipped upside down and all the shelves fell out and cracked, and an Amika hair drier. These were the last 5 things they put in the truck because I needed the vacuums to clean after all my stuff was out, I used the blow drier to push dog hair out of the corners, and they moved the lamp and case last because they were easy to fit items. Between these 5 broken items I could have paid for the movers almost 3xs and I was refunded $0 even after submitting a broken items ticket Thank you for setting me back about $1500 in broken items. The day I was to fly out to Kenya, I searched all over for my passport and realized it was still in the drawer of my bedroom dresser! Panic set in and I left an early morning message for their staff. They promptly called me back, and the owner and his son left breakfast to pick me up going straight to the storage unit to find my passport! I had them assist me with a move 2 weeks ago. My $300 portable Bluetooth Braven855S speaker came up missing. The box is there but the speaker is gone and I had the speaker the day of the move. When folks say the cheapest thing is not the best thing, I now believe it. The price was pretty reasonable although they have now dropped the rate on their website for $10 less per hour than my original rate. Read everything before signing. If you do decide to go with this company, highly recommend getting additional insurance elsewhere so if your stuff comes up missing, you can get it replaced at cost. It is just a bad feeling to know that someone came in your personal space and took something. My bed and dressers did get chipped during the move. Jeanne advised that they are only liable for 30 cents per pound of the article, but they gave me $50 for the speaker. I would not go with them considering my speaker is gone but the box is left I've heard great things about two men and a truck though. They are a little higher in price. read more

I called a few movers since I wanted to relocate across the nation, but their prices were too pricey. After finding Packman moving services online, I requested a quote, and their initial estimate seemed reasonable. Then I told them just what I wanted to bring with me when I relocate. Packman s' first estimate increased from about $1700 to $2200. They provided a more affordable quotation than other moving firms, so I chose them.When the mover arrived and looked through the items I wanted to take with me on moving day. Price was raised from $2200 to $4100 by him. The mover explained that some of the goods were too large when I asked why the price had suddenly increased. I had already spoken to them and informed them of all the furniture and other items I intended to bring, so this statement seemed strange. The mover has abruptly increased the price by roughly $2000. The mover refused to remove some items even after I asked them to. I had thought that removing some items would bring the price down. The main lesson to be learned from this review is that it is better to work with a reputable business than to hunt for a less expensive dubious substitute. This business lacked honesty and went back on its estimate the day of my packing. The cheapest option isn't necessarily the best; look at companies with experience. read more

To start, everyone I emailed/corresponded with was polite and easy to work with. We were scheduled to have our movers come between 9:00-10:00am in the coldest day of the winter. I received a call 10 minutes before their arrival and once the crew was there, they got to work immediately. They were careful with all of our belongings and verified anything they had a question about. They also took apart our kind size bed frame and crib easily and placed it back together at our new place. Once we were at our destination they were just as quick and efficient. They moved a couch into a downstairs basement that I was sure would not fit without any scratches to the walls. Nothing was damaged when they were working. Salvador, Raul, and Carlos made our day of moving as stress free as it could be (if at all possible). They were polite and quick to work. I highly recommend using this company! My only complaint was the truck that was sent was probably a size smaller than we needed so our couches were strapped onto the back. It wasn't a problem- everything got to its final destination in one piece. My only word of advice is over estimate what you have when contacting them initially. I first used Pack-Men to help twice with moving and setting up furniture for a business that I used to manage in 2017. A few weeks after that move, I hired them for my personal move from Lakeview to River North. Most recently I hired them to move from River North to West Town. I worked with Miguel and Henry who were both professional, friendly and incredibly quick. They had everything moved out of my old apt in about 30-40 min and unloaded in the new condo in around 2.5 hours. They even graciously helped put together a bed frame before leaving.
