If I could give 10 stars, I would. If Yelp allowed fireworks, I'd set them off. These movers were hands-down the best moving company we have ever used & that's saying something because we're old and have moved people a LOT. They showed up on time (early, actually, which already felt suspiciously competent), wrapped everything like it was headed to a museum or being launched into space, and treated my father-in-law's belongings with more care than most people treat their own stuff. Not a scratch. Not a dent. Not a single "oops." My father in law had some physical limitations and used a cane to get around and they were so patient and kind to him. I've NEVER had movers that were so careful. We were blown away. Professional, fast, respectful, genuinely kind and they even gave us helpful tips along the way, which you never expect but absolutely appreciate when your brain is fried from moving logistics. No drama. No attitude. Just calm, efficient excellence from start to finish. I would recommend this company to anyone: family, friends, strangers on the internet, people I meet in line at Target. I was recommended A-Available Moving Company from my mechanic, whose shop is right around the corner. Initially, I was on the fence about using a moving company, because I have always done moves myself to save money and take as good of care of my personal belongings as possible. But I also lived on the third floor of a place with over 40 stairs, and there would be no way I would have done it myself, so I called A-Available. I felt their prices were fair, with a standard hourly rate, and they did a great job explaining what every charge would be before I signed for it. The quality of the work, though, that was simply fantastic. I have a lot of heavy stuff, including over 1,000 vinyl records, and the building I was moving out of had narrow walls and a winding staircase. The movers went out of their way to make sure nothing was chipped or cracked or broken, taking great care of all my stuff. The team came prepared, they worked hard, and they really knew what they were doing. We moved my entire one-bedroom from the third floor of my old place, all the way across town to the first floor of my new place, in three hours flat. What's more is they sent four men instead of the usual three for no extra charge, which made this move even easier for me. Worst moving company you can ask for! WHAT A DISGRACE!!! They were only 3 blocks away but they still way overcharged me. They started the clock in the beginning at the exact time, but when they finished they rounded up 30 min and charged me for their lunch! A 20 min drive took 1 hour and 40 min that they charge $120 per hour and double dipped by charging truck time $160 per hour. They lost many very important things I could never get back, dragged their feet prepping things, and on top of it, one of the guys had a bunch of bleeding sores and was wearing a white t shirt- bled all over his body and on my walls and things and even helped himself to my Q tips and cleaned his nasty earwax out in my bathroom! read more

I have moved twice with A-Available, plus my sister has had movers help her move out of her apartment from A-Available. My family and I have been nothing but supremely impressed. Everyone who works there has a positive attitude and is willing to go the extra mile. My furniture and belongings have always been wonderfully wrapped, moved well and nothing has ever been injured (in fact, I was hoping that some lamp shades would have been injured so that I could dump them without feeling guilty - haha!). The movers are always expeditious, but careful and have managed to get furniture in and out of really tight spots. We called them last minute about an armoire that my wife and I were moving downstairs but could not get through the narrow staircase. Luckily, A-Available had a crew nearby and sent them over very quickly. The crew attempted the same move but soon realized that it wasn't going to work, so they moved it out the window and down to the ground in perfect fashion. This was my first time ever hiring movers and I was a little overwhelmed, while calling around for quotes I was immediately impressed by how easy Mike made everything seem. They also offered three movers, rather than two, and their price was only $2 an hour more than a competitor. $2 for an extra mover is a huge bargain!! I'm not sure about some of the people who complained about their movers....these guys ROCKED! I contacted another company and got a quote that was about $200 more than A Available. I believe I spoke with Mike, and he laid out the charges and timeline for me. I called him the day before to confirm details and add an additional stop, and he was totally accommodating. The three man crew showed up 15 minutes early, promptly introduced themselves to my husband and me, and asked for their instructions. They took 90 minutes to clear out our 1 bedroom condo PLUS the storage unit we had in the basement, and another hour to clear out two storage lockers we had. All told, our move (with three stops PLUS the unload) took 6 hours, and came in EXACTLY on estimate. The crew we had were efficient and polite. I would use these guys again in a heartbeat! read more

It was then that I discovered my collection of vinyl records, my automotive testing equipment, and my coin collection missing. I did file a police report and am still looking into it. Tom and his crew are very dependable, John and Chris as well as the 2 brothers that work there are amazing! I had them for 3 days. 2 move trips and 1 additional to empty our Pod. After going on day 3 of moving, I had left my whole wallet open and out on my desk at the bottom of the stairs which they went up and down 50 times day 3 and had other things out and while I didn't mean to, just after an hour when I saw it, I wasn't alarmed. I just knew by day 3, and that Chris was with this company for 24 years and John 10, I was ok and sure enough my wallet had everything in it! Although we were not completely packed, Mike and his team were very helpful in getting the move going and getting the truck packed in a timely, efficient manner. As soon as my wife and I had our butts in gear finally, the move eventually went great. Everything arrived in great condition and the rates were very fair. They could not have been more friendly and easy going beyond the fact that they were, most importantly, efficient and quick. I only wish they would have stayed and helped us get our closets and cabinets in order. I have used this mover in the past, but recently, when I hired them to move me, they took one look at my move and turned around and left me high and dry - on a Saturday. I am an artist and I have a lot of stuff. They were under the impression I was going to be a quick and easy move, and they wanted no part of it. The movers did some packing for me and then moved me the following day. Their charges were reasonable,but the best part were the staff. The crew arrived early, and after receiving a summary of various needs, they were poetry in motion. BEWARE THIS MOVING COMPANY!!! We chose to go with them after several people had told us how utterly professional and fantastic they were.Even after being quoted with the help of two movers at $99 an hr. for a move literally across the street, we still agreed. What we got were too young men that were a half an hr. late (with no call) that cursed under their breath while moving,one of which was covered in jail tattoos. They broke the handle off our refrigerator because they had brought it into the wrong room and did not want to have to go back down the path to re-position it so they FORCED it through a small doorway!!! They spent 15 minutes searching for paperwork,all on OUR dime as they're paid by the hour and almost 40 minutes trying to place the fridge appropriately!! We're paying $99 dollars for you to fix your mistakes??? At this point they'd not finished moving nearly what we needed moving and been here for 2 1/2 hr.s. They told us they were leaving,they'd only quoted us for 2 1/2 hr.s and would ONLY stay for that amount of time!!! After cursing and fighting they up and left,with no word or papers signed,just left! 10 minutes later they drove back and told us they would "cut us a deal" and charge us half price for their time!! We told them that we were STILL willing to pay FULL price for their time if only they would kindly finish the job for us. We still had things to be moved and were being left in a major lurch.The main man said,"I will not touch another box", "are you going to pay us or not?" We informed them that until they fixed our refrigerator or finished with the moved they'd signed up to help with we would not be paying. They left with a series of loud profanities. The NEXT day,our house was very badly burglarized,the back door frame busted in,the kitchen window smashed through. We've lived in this house,in this neighborhood,for EIGHTEEN years and never before been burglarized. SERIOUSLY?! I know it's common to be broken into when moving,but the fact that they were SO angry,SO crude AND the head of the company NEVER contacted us about our lack of payment. We were referred by a friend who has used A-Available for 2 moves. We moved across country just five months ago and had a good sense of the time it would take to load us in/out. Our last movers took 3 hours to load-out, 2 in load-in. For this move, it was expected to take 5-6 hours and about $500. It took 8 hours and cost just over $1000 + tips. Pros: They packed the truck very well, wrapped all our furniture, and everything arrived at the other end unbroken. Cons: Because everything was packed and ready and as we knew exactly what we had from the previous move, we knew we were being taken advantage of. The 3 guys moved slowly, complained a lot, took a lunch break before departing our first place, and literally slowed to a crawl when unloading. The team was courteous but we didn't feel quite comfortable with them. The guy that was responsible for wrapping and sorting in our apartment complained and cursed the entire day. I'm totally liberal but I found it extremely unprofessional and grating on an already stressful event. We're a gay couple and after a few "fuck me in the ass" exclamations, we had enough. He also had the audacity to suggest we give a "good" tip because we "had so much shit." I hired a mover to move our "shit," not to comment upon it. We were very concerned about time and expense by the time we reached our new place so we asked them to just dump everything in the downstairs living room and we'd sort later. Without fail, every time they entered they asked where to puts things. It felt deliberate. On many trips, the guys carried in 2 pillows at a time or a single lamp. It was RIDICULOUS. We've hired dozens of movers over the last decade in 3 major cities and this was by far the worst experience and slammed our checkbook after buying a new house. I have no problem paying for a job well done, particularly for the arduous task of moving, or giving "good" tips. BUT my tip to you Yelpers is to find another company. read more

I used A-Available movers on August 1st 2009 to move from my apartment to our house. On August 5th as I was unpacking I noticed several (about 4-5) boxes of books missing. I did a thorough walk-through of my apartment before moving and didn't notice anything was left. I even called my former neighbors and had them look to see if I accidentially left anything in my previous apartment. A guy from A-Available movers came out to my house on August 6th to look for the boxes, which I kept telling them weren't in the house. The idiot even looked in places that no Medium box could have been. Low and behold the boxes weren't in our new house. To make matters worse he was very condescending during the whole process. I have been trying to resolve the issue with them for almost two months now. I just got a letter from them yesterday saying they are not responsible for my lost books (value around $1500). BEWARE--Their guys are a little shady. Some of my furniture was also damamged and I had to throw a few pieces out. They were fast but with speed comes damage. Plus the fact that I know have to replace half of my bookcase of expensive books. I have used Burrows before but I decided to try this company because they got ok reviews. I would NEVER use them again and I should have trusted my gut and just stuck with Burrows. I DO NOT recommend A-Available movers. They were ok price wise but I guess you get what you pay for. read more

Love these guys! They've moved us 3 times. Very fast and efficient. Can carry seemingly unlimited loads with straps on their backs. Never a word of complaint about the giant quantity of book boxes and the multiple flights of stairs. All our furniture and mattresses were carefully wrapped in plastic and blankets. read more

These guys are great. I've used them 3 times and have never had a problem. They come in and get straight to work. Very efficient and keep you aware of what's going on. Great communication and the guys tend to like to joke around, which helps lighten the stress of moving. They also aren't intimidated by Ikea bed frames and will dismantle and rebuild them without even batting an eyelash. Also, they consistently over-estimate my move times. This last time they initially quoted 4.5 hours but were done within 3. Gotta love those big pink trucks! read more

A-Available was great. They moved us from a 3 bedroom apartment in the middle of July to a 1st floor apartment. It only took 3 guys 2.5 hours to unload the 3rd floor apt. They have this amazing strap that allows each guy to take up to 6 boxes at a time. They used this for the filing cabinet, bookcases and our boxes. Amazing. They were careful with all of our stuff even having to navigate the tricky stairwells at the old place. Nothing was damaged or broken in the boxes. I have used A-Available Moving for 4 moves. These guys are GREAT. They are prompt, friendly, and...most importantly...careful. In four moves nothing has been broken or lost. Their time estimates were right on target. And when I say friendly, I mean it. When I called, Mike answered. He recognized my voice and said, "Oh yes, we moved you last year from La Grange didn't we?". On my most recent move, they showed up on time, took stock of what we had, what we were moving vs. what they were moving, and got right to work. They were very careful with everything. I handed one of the movers a box and said "Be careful. This one is fragile." Mark said, "It's all fragile...it's your stuff". And they acted that way. They worked quickly and efficiently, despite the fact that there was only one elevator. They reported to me when the elevator was out of service for a bit, apologizing for it (even though this was out of their control). They finished up straightaway and drove to my new place. I gave Mike the walkthrough and they got straight to work. They did not complain about the three flights of narrow stairs nor did they complain about all of my books. Everything was arranged perfectly. At one point, I asked them how much they had left. Mark said "We're done when you say we're done". Flawless. Bottom line: efficient, careful, priced fair, and friendly. I'd recommend them to anyone who wants to make a difficult task easier. Update April, 2015: I worked with Mike at A-Available again for my move to Oak Park. As always, he and his team were on time, efficient, professional, careful, and courteous. Mike and his team came highly recommended by friends and moved us out of our home and into our new home during the most stressful house closing and COVID19 pandemic. During an extremely stressful and anxiety provoking process (not having the dates we could move in and it changing because of closings), Mike was patient and flexible took care of every detail and communicated us through the whole process to save us the most money and get done the move we needed to. Mike spent a long time at our home prior to the move to give us a detailed estimate and also advised us on how to pack if we want to save on cost. I got estimates from other companies who made me feel like I was buying a used car. I immediately felt like Mike cared and was looking to help and not bullshit me. He was available and patient for my many phone calls as we needed to call him constantly to change moving dates. His guys arrived early and moved super fast. They were super professional and paid attention to detail of where things went and took care of our belongings. They didn't take breaks or waste anytime. They even called us "miss" and "sir".
