Updated review: while Eric and team packed carefully in Chicago, the items were placed haphazardly in the container, with cardboard boxes beneath plastic bins. A number of items were damaged, and a lamp destroyed. Thankfully Minimoves processed our claim swiftly and without challenges (we were reasonable, got estimates, set value based on comparable items). So in the end, it all worked out. Just wish they'd been more careful when they put things into the container. read more

The movers at both ends of my journey (Chicago and Brooklyn, New York) were great. They were professional, prompt, and took care of my stuff. The customer reps out of Chicago were also great. My only issue was the guy on the phone I dealt with when I got to New York. He was brusque and rude, and tried to push back when I told him I needed more than 24 hours notice to have my stuff delivered to my apartment, even though I had another 10 days available according to my contract. The New York phone guy is what cost MiniMoves a 5-star review. With that said, I still recommend them for multistage smaller moves. read more

Our famil y hired Mini Moves once to move from Los Angeles to Scottsdale in 2008 and then again in 2021 to move from Scottsdale to New Jersey. The first move was excellent thus we didn't feel the need to look them up (183 reviews - 3-stars - oof) on Yelp but we should have. Details: * Everything that we moved was professionally boxed or packed by an outside firm * We paid over $14,000 for the move * Included in the $14,000 was about $850 for $0 deductible "replacement insurance" * They dropped and destroyed an irreplaceable Italian credenza that cost $3,500. * They destroyed a well-packed oil painting by 90 year old, Santa Monica-based modern artist Julia Chu. The painting literally RIPPED in HALF. * They damaged a marble-top "server" and offered $175 to repair it - less than it would cost to have a plumber come out and unclog a toilet. Note: we bought REPLACEMENT INSURANCE but Mini Moves refuses to engage their policy despite taking $850 for it for just this type of damage. Upon our complaints, they've since offered $3,500 plus $175 BUT demanded that we didn't post on social media, go the the Better Business Bureau, Google or elsewhere. We rejected their offer as we'd rather share with the mindful consumers of Yelp to AVOID this firm at all costs assuming your personal items have any value to you and your family. To be clear: we accept that people are not perfect and that movers break things. That's just life. But that's NOT why we paid $850 for $0 deductible, replacement insurance. I would like to thank MiniMoves for the support they gave me in moving from Seattle to Chicago. My timeframe was short which made it all the more stressful. They contracted with Eco Movers to help wrap up my larger furniture at my house in Seattle, and those movers did a fantastic job. When my stuff arrived in Chicago, it arrived a little earlier than planned which made me happy, and the team of 5 men moved all of my stuff carefully and quickly into my new condo. The guys were friendly and respectful of my stuff. I was expecting there to be some broken things just because I know casualties happen when moving so far. But I haven't found anything broken. There are some dents and dings just from the jostling that comes with moving, but nothing was actually shattered or broken which shows how careful the movers packed my stuff, and then unloaded it and had to move it to the 15th floor of my condo building. I also wanted to say thank you to Vanessa Ellington for keeping me updated with the status of my stuff and Paul Hansen for the implementation of my move. I am honestly surprised at how much of a split review this company has received. I had to move a couple of antique pieces across the country and every other place that I inquired was charging such a crazy amount of money that I was starting to think I wasn't going to be able to make this happen. Mini moves was very reasonably priced and I never had a communication problem. They seem to have partner teams they work with throughout the country and even their partner moving service that did the drop-off was very communicative. The owner Steve was really great. Literally always in touch, providing updates, very clear on estimates. I would highly recommend this company if you need to move a small move. Researched ways to move an antique 3 seat porch glider from VA to NH and after talking with a number of moving companies decided on MiniMoves. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. The glider would be difficult to transport assembled because its heavy metal construction rocks when moved or carried any distance. Therefore, prior to MiniMoves arrival I dissembled it into its 3 component pieces, the glider seat, the glider base, and the seat support straps. The movers did an exceptional job of wrapping and protecting the individual components in heavy movers blankets and then securing them together and wrapping them as one unit for transport. Pickup and delivery was accomplished on dates specified in the contract by extremely competent and professional individuals. I was very pleased with the process and the results. If I could divide this rating in two parts I would. First off, MiniMoves is just a "middleman" business model, since they are not performing the actual move on either side -- pick up or delivery. They bid out to 3rd party moving companies and they just handle the logistics (poorly in some cases). If I could I would give 5 stars to both EcoMovers in Seattle and Cord Movers in St. Louis. They did a fantastic job. MiniMoves on the other hand was not fun to deal with once you sign the contract. First off, the communication is beyond poor, and get ready for angry Karen's to reply to simple questions around the arrival of your stuff with canned answers that point back to the contract. Second, you need to understand that the delivery windows can be longer than a month - yes you heard me right, it can take a month for a moving company to delivery your stuff from point A to point B. Four guys showed up (late mind you) and it took them 11 hours to complete the job. Two of the four guys were useless and could not have moved any slower. Do not use this moving company. My boxes mostly came crushed. I had almost 60 boxes and 20 of them were crushed. My nightstand, which thankfully was Ikea, was completely destroyed. I went with Minimoves originally because they gave me the cheapest quote, but they added many fees. They also count 7 steps as a flight of stairs and added an extra $28 when they found out that I lived on the second floor. There were many additional fees and it was a headache. I have moved several times before this, and have had multiple conversations with MiniMoves about my situation. 1. Their movers were supposed to call me with an arrival time. No one ever calls. I email MiniMoves but they don't offer to help. The movers show up at 7:45 am unannounced. MiniMoves doesn't offer to help me reschedule or see if they can come back later. 2. I am obviously not 100% prepared for this and the movers have to pack some items (I am charged $750ish dollars for this) and I have no time to separate out some items I want to take myself. 3. They then give me a 10 day delivery window that includes thanksgiving and Black Friday (which no one other than me seems to realize or acknowledge) for a move from Denver to Orange County. 4. My stuff arrives in LA on Wednesday, November 14, but they can't deliver it until Wednesday, November 21. 5. They literally broke the legs off of my entertainment center. Needless to say, this move has 1. cost significantly more than anticipated and quoted, including up charges that I didn't see coming and weren't my fault and 2. Taken an unreasonably long time. I've moved across country before and had it be quick and (relatively) easy. I say relatively because there are always issues when it comes to moving. Be sure to have them pack your boxes. If they don't pack them they are not insured even if you buy the extra insurance. After they picked up my items I was trying for weeks to reach them with no response. I then suddenly received a call that they were at my home to deliver without ever once being contacted to schedule. When I rescheduled the delivery for another week, they arrived 4 hours after the scheduled window. Despite the 1 month late delivery, they actually charged me a 1 month storage fee. So they will fail to deliver and then charge you extra ($600). I asked for a review of this multiple times and they completely ignored me. I asked for a claim form for my destroyed belongings (see photos). Every box arrived completely destroyed. It took them three weeks and eight phone calls to send me a claims form. I would not recommend using this moving company. I moved cross country last year. The delivery arrived weeks after the expected date range. There were several hundreds worth of dollars of damage to my possessions. The movers were rude and unprofessional. I filed a claim to MiniMoves and never heard back. Do NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! So I hired mini moves to move me from NYC to CO. I had 18 items. Getting a quote and setting up the pickup date was easy enough. My items were picked up on May 21st with a delivery date of June 12-14th. The delivery weekend arrives and I odcourse have heard nothing from the movers. So I call. No one can tell me anything. They say that my items are delayed and not gonna be delivered this weekend, and as of right now,, not sure when delivery will be.. she says she'll have someone calle back later that day. They never do.. This is where everything went super downhill. So I call back that Tuesday the 15th. Again no one could tell me where my items were, just that they "were definitely on the move". I kept asking what that meant and was told again someone would reach out. About an hour later I get an email from Michelle (the Customer service Manager) she informs me that my items HAVENT EVEN LEFT NEW YORK. so they've just been sitting since they were picked up. She says that they should be headed out tomorrow for CO and someone will be reaching out this week with delivery information. So I wait...Friday comes. Nothing. I call back on Monday, Michelle answers. Now she tells me that my stuff in "definitely in route" but no one can tell me where. Not a state. A warehouse. NOTHING. However, Michelle does tell me that since this delay is over 2 weeks past its due date (at this point) that she would be reimbursing me for this time. She tells me that they need to run my card now and that she will personally call me to check that my items made it in one piece and discuss compensation. So I pay, tell her thanks and again away my items. Enter the following Friday the 25th....STILL HAVE NOTHING!!!! No one has called.or reached out or said anything. So of course I call, because no one has reached out. They tell me my stuff is in CO at the "dock" but needs to be unloaded onto a truck to be delivered. They say it should be this weekend. So I wait around. Ofcourse there's nothing. So I call again. It's the first of July....they finally tell me that my stuff will be here July 6th. That that was the earliest they could do delivery. Ok, fine. Atleat my stuff is here. The 6th finally gets here and the movers show up....Guess what. THEY FEDEX MY STUFF TO ME!!!!! IT WAS NOT ON A TRUCK WAITING. IT HAD BEEN PUT ON A CRATE, BOXED AND FEDEX TO MY HOUSE, A WEEK PRIOR. Everything they said was all bullshit. Whatever. I was just happy to see my stuff since it was TWENTY ONE DAYS PASSED THEIR DUE DATE!! Ofcourse now that my stuff is here, Michelle is no where to be found. I've emailed and left a message and nothing. This whole experience has be awful. It went from a 20 day wait to almost FIFTY DAYS of living out of a suitcase. Since they use contracted companies to do their work it is often not accurate or what you had agreed upon in the estimate. Not only did our items arrive nearly a week later than the promised date, there were items missing, damaged, and we were overcharged $2,000. They will argue with you but in the end will never provide proof for their charges. The customer service is horrendous (specifically the "customer service manager") and extremely unprofessional. Went to schedule move based on their quote, was told it would be higher than quote. Everyone loves hidden fees. Still decided to proceed, was told someone would call to schedule/confirm as I needed it on a specific date. No one called. Followed up twice -- three days before and the day of the move -- and still no one called after being repeatedly told someone would call. Worst long distance mover I've ever worked with. I've made five previous cross country moves, so you'd think I'd know what I was doing, right? Ah, but that was before I met MiniMoves. I made the MONUMENTAL mistake of hiring them for my sixth (and hands down, worst) move. Some of it is my own fault. So I want to make clear what they don't: MiniMoves CHARGES BY NUMBER OF ITEMS NOT WEIGHT, AS MOST OTHER LONG DISTANCE MOVERS DO. Please be VERY aware of this. I was rushing, I signed everything, seeing what I wanted to see...that they were the same as everyone else (they proudly claim that they have "no minimum weight requirement" for their moves. Right, because they don't charge by weight). What did that mean to me? I had a solid quote from a national moving company, $3,800, came to my home and looked at everything. Included 100% reimbursement for damaged items. Probably would have been about $4,000 when I added in a small sofa I have. This was in line with what I've paid in the past, made sense. But the local affiliate's reviews online were awful. I had a higher quote from MiniMoves, but since the Minimoves quote was done by phone (which EVERY article about long-distance moves says NOT to do by the way), I figured the weight would be closer to the other estimate even out the pricing. Oh wait, Minimoves doesn't charge like other long distance movers. At the point I was looking their reviews looked good---since the first of the year I've seen a decidedly downward trend. Too late to help me unfortunately. So what did I pay for MiniMoves to move my two bedroom condo from Colorado to Massachusetts? SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS. That's right $6,000, when I could have paid $4,000. For a TWO BEDROOM CONDO. I don't have that much stuff. And that included the mandatory bare-minimum insurance. Did I pay for better service? God no, the service was horrible. No proactive communication whatsoever. It took just over two weeks for my stuff to get here. I had to call and e-mail multiple times to find out what was going on before and after pick up. They're all very pleasant mind you, they're just not great at actually getting things done. Did I pay to make sure everything got here in one piece? Nope. Sofa has one corner that is filthy and torn, and it's missing a leg. Leather recliner has one leg off, they just wrapped that up with the chair. One-year-old small sleeper from IKEA is filthy, and the back is all warped. Boxes are crushed. Dining room cabinet has two scratched legs. MiniMoves uses local movers to load and unload. No earthly idea what happened to it in between. Even the local movers were horrified by what they saw when they were delivering to me. So bottomline please, PLEASE think twice before using this company. If you hate all your stuff and secretly want a reason to get rid of it...and you want to pay a 50% premium to have it ruined, then by all means, use MiniMoves. But if not...you might want to look at other options. read more

I was very uncertain whether to go with Mini Moves because of the mixed reviews, but I think this might be a case where everyone who has a bad experience writes a review, and everyone who has a good experience doesn't. My experience was solid! I moved a single bedroom's worth of stuff from Seattle to Washington DC. The price was fair and much MUCH lower than any full-service mover. On the Seattle side, EcoMovers were great and picked everything up on time; on the DC side, All in One Movers were also great and delivered on the last day of the 10-day window. No damage, just a bit of scuffing on some items. The only reason it's not 5 stars is that minimoves initially tried to charge me for a bunch of extra items -- the shelves of my bookshelf, for example, or a tiny box that had the cords for my computer monitor. But I explained to the woman on the phone what was going on and she removed the charge on those extras (thanks Priscilla!). I did have to pay extra for my headboard, which apparently wasn't included in "bed frame". Would use them again for small moves. Just make sure that the local partners they will use in both cities have good reputations -- I checked that before deciding to go with Minimoves. read more

I moved from Philadelphia to Denver, and after the original booking, I did not hear anything from minimoves. I reached out no less than 10 times and was eventually escalated to a manager. Even the manager did not return calls or emails. The cost ended up being higher than quoted -- which was already higher than other companies. I used MiniMoves for a cross-country move earlier this year. The guys who packed for me on the Wisconsin side were wonderful. They were very careful with my stuff, worked efficiently, and helped sort my belongings into economical units to save me money off my estimate. Plus they were personable! If the whole move went like that, I would've gladly given them 5 stars. Unfortunately, their contracted partners aren't as good. Unloading for me was handled by Apple Moving. They were indelicate, slitting my mattress protector as they unboxed my mattress, and curtly told me to take complaints to MiniMoves. They were heavy-handed and unpleasant, and left in such a hurry that I didn't have the chance to give them an obligation tip... which I can't say I minded. All in all, the move was cheaper than quoted and not the disaster I feared. I was not terribly pleased with the contractors and wish MiniMoves kept better company, as the other end is half the moving experience, but at the end of the day the job got done well on time and under budget. read more

MiniMoves just completed my small move from the Bay Area in California to upstate New York. They moved 16 boxes, including a large TV, and everything arrived in good shape. Although it took a few days over the 12-22 day estimate I was given, I'm not taking off a star for that since it was such a long move and was over a national holiday, plus, I wasn't in urgent need of my stuff; however, it's something to keep in mind if you're on a super-tight schedule. She had already reviewed the details of my move, recalculated totals, and informed me that in addition to my original "overages" complaint, the team had miscalculated the final total and owed me around $550. I'm not sure if it was the original acct manager or the moving crews that miscalculated the final cost, but regardless, I appreciated the fact that the company cared enough about a bad rating to want to at least discuss and address it. At the suggestion of our local mover in Florida, we used MiniMoves for moving some household furniture to Minnesota. After MiniMoves confirmed the pick up date ( and I confirmed at least two more times) my wife and I made a special trip to Florida to oversee the pick up of our goods. Despite several assurances that the movers would be there, no one showed up. They did finally show up about 10 days later but since we were not there, not all items were picked up. When our goods finally did arrive, 6 of 24 items were either badly damaged or totally destroyed. All 4 dining room chairs had damaged arms. An antique Windsor chair was broken into 3 pieces. A lamp shade was totally ripped. A two piece pine armoire top looks like it had been dropped resulting in a sizable chunk of the bottom missing. The total value of these items was over $10,000 and MiniMoves only offered to pay $150. We hadn't taken out the maximum insurance because we expected only minor nicks or scratches. Delivery sums up how unprofessional MiniMoves is. The delivery truck finally arrives. Delivery people walk up to me and say, "I've got good news and bad news. Good news, your stuff is here. Bad news, they changed the lock on the truck and we can't open it. Can we borrow a sledge hammer?" Yes, I had to loan the movers a sledge hammer to open the truck. Beyond that, that price gouged us after pick-up, the movers weren't wearing gloves or masks (this was peak covid time), and I had to hound the company for updates on where my stuff was, they also left most boxes half empty and haphazardly packed. read more

DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY! Where should I start? The sales pitch and obtaining the quote is easy enough, but when it comes to moving day, its an entirely different team of people to work with. They are not responsive, they find ways to add on additional fees and they absolutely inflate the charges by not properly calculating the math. I had to correct their math for additional items in the move, storage fee's and elevator fee's. It seems their calculators don't work like mine. Just be prepared to micromanage every thing they do and everything they charge. Then be prepared to micromanage repeated requests for credits due because they don't respond and they find "additional" charges to justify the over charges. Rather than issuing a $51 credit that was due to me from their erroneous math for storage, they simply found (created) additional fees to charge me rather than do the right thing and issue the credit due. Michelle Gibbs, Manager of Customer Service and Move Management, tried repeatedly to make me just go away justifying their actions and charges. Seriously? After spending over $3400 with them, they are going to withhold a credit of $51 due to me from their overcharge in order to justify a $60.73 and tell me I owe them $17.72 more!!!! Are you kidding? Michelle then had the audacity to waive the $17.72, if I signed a waiver that I would not post any reviews about my experiences. I have been thoroughly inconvenienced by managing this situation for almost a month and they cannot for the sake of customer service issue a proper credit of $51 overcharged after I spent over $3400. The move, transport, storage and especially the customer service were a total inconvenience. Don't use MiniMoves if you want a smooth transaction, transparency or customer support. read more
