Visit Date: July 20, 2024 We came here to eat brunch after spotting it on the Michelin-hopefuls article written by Eater Austin. They have a very small parking lot, so you have to be lucky. I'm sure there are residential streets nearby you could use and then walk to the door. It is a restaurant with a cozy atmosphere, and great service. Fellow adventurous palate friends will adore this Texas sourced butcher/restaurant. The flavors in each item even down to the coffee served was bright and clearly well thought out. We started with coffee(Third Coast Double French), Palmiers, and the Cold Meat charcuterie board. Honestly the board itself could be a simple meal for 2 people on its own. Lots of different options and healthy portions of everything offered. Chicken liver mousse is always a win for me, but the real star of the show needed up being the wild boar rillettes. We then shared the delicious Sunday Chicken Fried Quail (again, another Full plate literally and flavor-wise) with a side of the Nilgai breakfast sausage because I just had to try it as I've never seen antelope on a menu before. A lean, good meat that reminds me of eating Elk back in my home state of WI. This would have been a 5 star review, but we had an uncomfortable brush with the hostess trying to seat us in a corner by the serving window when all but 1 of the outside tables were open. We had a reservation in advance for outside for my husband's birthday that day and I got some pushback when I asked for a table under the vine covered outdoor area. She tried to tell me that those were for larger parties, even though multiple tables were there same exact size she was trying to seat us at. The hour and a half we were there only 2 more tables were filled outside so I'm not sure why we got attitude, but it definitely started us on the wrong foot feeling unwelcome . I have very fond memories of Dai Due not just because of it's great food and atmosphere, but because it was one of the first restaurants my wife and I ate at when we first moved to Austin several years ago! I've returned countless times over the years, and each visit has been consistently delicious and amazing. Dai Due is Austin farm-to-table food at it's best! What strikes me the most about Dai Due's food is how clean it is. I've always left on a very full belly but never feeling gross or heavy. It's a testament to their commitment to high quality, organic, locally sourced foods and love they put into every dish. From original drinks like their Black Yaupon Iced Tea (yum!) to the Beef fat french fries (double yum!), this is everything quintessential Austin in a restaurant you could want. Biscuits and gravy ain't your momma's biscuits and gravy, as Dai Due's twist on it, includes nilgai antelope breakfast sausage. I don't even know what that is, but it's DELICIOUS and you must try it! Hot, flaky, made from scratch biscuits, with the antelope sausage that give a smokey, rich flavor. Sour dough pancakes are to die for and offer a unique, fresh take on a streusel. Apple syrup, cheddar ricotta, and brown-butter pecan is a unique flavor combination that will satisfy both your sweet and savory cravings. Fluffy, hot, and fresh, can't beat 'em! No matter what you order here, do not skip out on the in-house made Tallow-fried donut holes! These donut holes rival any major donut spot in the Austin surrounding area, including Round Rock Donuts glazed donuts, which is saying a lot! They have a more natural, frosty white glaze color, and a weighty thickness to them, so every bite feels is full and robust, but not overwhelming. Pairing this with a fresh cup of coffee gives you the perfect sugar + caffeine combo to get your day going. The interior can be a bit tight, but families of four and larger parties can be seated comfortably at booths easily. My rating is based upon a serious failure to meet the expectations of a Michelin Bib Gourmand recommended restaurant. I have been to Dai Due several times and I was always pleased in the past. Last night my wife and I were both quite disappointed. We each ordered a main course and a side of okra to share. The okra was very good. On the other hand, my pork chop was seriously overdone. Overdone so that it was tough, dry, tasteless, and there was literally not a drop of juice on the plate. It should have been rich, juicy and flavorful. I have been grilling meat for longer than their chefs have been alive, and a competent chef can tell by the feel of the meat when it is cooked to the correct temperature. They didn't bother or care how it was done. My wife's hamburger was also over-cooked and dry, very dry. This just shows a lack of caring and attention that one expects from a Bib Gourmand level restaurant. Obviously, quality controls have taken a nosedive. You do not earn kudos by being complacent. I know we should have complained and ordered something else, but we had time constraints, and my wife fears chef-retaliation when their work is challenged. Besides, it should not be necessary to complain at a really good restaurant. Food like that should not be allowed out of their kitchen. As a side note, the noise level is pretty high, especially hearing a chef yell out orders to the other chefs. I think there is some background music, but the overall din made it hard to tell. read more

This place does their mission statement so well! Everything is so fresh and good! I sat on the patio which was lovely and cool thanks to their control over air flow. The flautas were unreal and same with the tomato salad. I hadn't really tried boar before so the burger was probably not for me but I could tell from the other ingredients that it was a good boar burger! Dai Due has a pretty unique menu and restaurant space. There is a butcher shop in the front and the restaurant is back. All of their ingredients is local and a farm to table establishment. They have some unique items that you won't see at other places. They have a lot of wild game meat that makes this place a truly unique dining experience. We got the lettuce wraps and the breakfast sandwich. The lettuce wraps can also be great as an appetizer and is something that is easily shareable. The breakfast sandwich was delicious! With antelope sausage, scrambled eggs, onions, cheddar cheese, and hot honey. Everything worked really well together and the quality of the meat and the ingredients really set this place a part. I've been here several times over the last few years and have always thought it was a 10/10 experience. I do recommend coming with a reservation, because they are always pretty busy. However, I have come here twice in a group of 3 without a reservation and gotten seated quickly at the bar. Nevertheless, if you want a table, book one in advance! :) The menu does change pretty often, but I've tried a good amount and everything has been delicious. It's not a large restaurant so we made a reservation for brunch via OpenTable. Service was friendly! The food was pretty good, but definitely a bit pricey for the amount of food you're getting. The Nilgai Antelope wraps were delicious! A nice spin to the traditional Korean lettuce wraps. My brother ordered the Cemita Ahogada, which looked like a sandwich dunked in broth. They will not compromise - if it is not from Texas it is not served here. Example: I asked if they had cocktails. No, we can not reliably source citrus in Texas. So we had some pretty good Texas Wine from the Hill country. I knew about Dai Due, after a hunting trip when I was given a copy of the Chef's "The Hog Book" cookbook. The recipes were so good, I knew I had to go to the restaurant, next time I was in Austin. Glad I did. Our server, Kelli was a wealth of knowledge and helpful in helping select the right dishes and the proper amount of food for our group. There is not a question about the menu items, wine or Texas in general that she does not know. So to start, we had a delicious mezza platter with falafel, homemade yoghurt, hoummos, a feta and olive spread. The green chili pork stuffed chalupa simply divine. For the main course, a petite pork chop and Aoudad Sheep meatballs hit the spot. Each was served with separate accompaniments that really complimented the dishes. Roasted carrots with a Salsa Verde sauce exceptional as were the beets. Everything had remarkable flavors, perfectly spiced and seasoned. The kitchen knows what it is doing. Texas wine was served by the bottle or glass as well as craft Texas beers. Inside the dining room is well appointed and comfortable seating. The noise level was relatively quiet. Went for lunch with the family and it was great. We were looking for a local steakhouse (basically "Grandpa was visiting and wanted Texas steak") that was accommodating/casual enough to tolerate a 10month old. Food was good: good flavors & felt/tasted it focused on the quality ingredients rather than mixing trendy mixes. Service was fantastic: TBH I scrolled yelp prior to going so may have been biased to the service. I felt like our server was curt at first, but she was actually stellar. Water, food, silverware--you name it was all taken care of. She even asked if the baby needed anything (extra plate/silverware/napkin/etc). She was also very knowledgeable about the menu and the history of the restaurant. I will say: it is the type of restaurant that they know what they're providing you and they're providing it to you in the best way. A real live butchery with a farm to table menu made with all locally sourced ingredients. There's indoor seating with a view of the kitchen and outdoor seating with a romantic grapevine covered patio. There's a parking lot in the back but it's not that big, you may have to park on the street. Moving on to our menu pickings: Grilled confit chicken hearts with citrus honey and fried onions - if I could have ordered 5 of these and some hot white rice, I would have eaten this for dinner! Mixed greens salad with charred onion vinaigrette and winter vegetables - honestly, this was a lack luster dish for me. Possibly because everything else had so much flavor. Grilled achiote carrots w/ green garlic crema, pickled onions, toasted sesame seeds, mint & cilantro - good char on the carrots. They were soft but not mushy. Bruleed rye bread pudding w/ strawberry jam ice cream & Chanda cream sherry - I'm not a fan of rye but I am a fan of bread pudding. It was light & custard-y in the middle. That strawberry ice cream was a good balance to the rye bread. Brown butter strawberry blondie & pink peppercorn ice cream sandwich - the chewy dense blondie stole the show for me. The pink peppercorn ice cream had a good subtle complimentary flavor to the dessert. I will definitely revisit and be sure Dai Due is on the list to eat at again. Fans and misters were going to keep the heat at bay, and tabletop spinners kept the bugs away. Service was phenomenal, which made the dinner extra special. Really enjoyed our experience at Dai Due! All of the food was extremely delicious. I also tried the Apple Cider Sparkling Cocktail and it was perfectly balanced, and not too sweet. We started with the lions mane, blue oyster mushroom toast and it was incredible! Next the star of the show was the 16oz NY strip steak. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Not too salty!
