I was visiting Austin for an extended weekend and my cousins wined and dined me. Dinner at Dai Due was the star of the weekend! A real live butchery with a farm to table menu made with all locally sourced ingredients. There's indoor seating with a view of the kitchen and outdoor seating with a romantic grapevine covered patio. There's a parking lot in the back but it's not that big, you may have to park on the street. Moving on to our menu pickings: Grilled confit chicken hearts with citrus honey and fried onions - if I could have ordered 5 of these and some hot white rice, I would have eaten this for dinner! Ham cornbread dressing stuffed quail w/ crawfish sauce piquante and herbs - this was delicious, the combination of salty and sweet, seafood and poultry was a winner. I'd order this again. Wild boar confit in a chile bone broth w/ Steen's cane syrup, coal roasted sweet potato puree, radish cabbage onion cilantro mint & lime - if everyone in the city could try this dish, Dai Due may be able to help TX manage the wild boar population a whole lot easier! Dry aged wagyu double cheese burger (ground w/ Dai Due bacon) - what could possibly make a wagyu burger any better? Grinding bacon INTO the burger of course! Beef fat french fries with beet ketchup and chile mayonnaise - good crispy French fries. That beet ketchup was my favorite condiment. Mixed greens salad with charred onion vinaigrette and winter vegetables - honestly, this was a lack luster dish for me. Possibly because everything else had so much flavor. Grilled achiote carrots w/ green garlic crema, pickled onions, toasted sesame seeds, mint & cilantro - good char on the carrots. They were soft but not mushy. Bruleed rye bread pudding w/ strawberry jam ice cream & Chanda cream sherry - I'm not a fan of rye but I am a fan of bread pudding. It was light & custard-y in the middle. That strawberry ice cream was a good balance to the rye bread. Brown butter strawberry blondie & pink peppercorn ice cream sandwich - the chewy dense blondie stole the show for me. The pink peppercorn ice cream had a good subtle complimentary flavor to the dessert. I will definitely revisit and be sure Dai Due is on the list to eat at again. The farm to table menu obviously constantly changes due to sourcing ability. Our group of 12 had a wonderful experience at Dai Due. We reserved ahead to be on the patio, nestled under their ivy covered pergola. Fans and misters were going to keep the heat at bay, and tabletop spinners kept the bugs away. Service was phenomenal, which made the dinner extra special. I love the concept of only sourcing from in-state, and we had a lot of fun sampling the Texas fare, from the food to the wine. While we had a pre-arranged menu for our party, everything was delicious - my favorites being the mushroom toast appetizer and the mulberry (?) ice cream. Went for lunch with the family and it was great. We were looking for a local steakhouse (basically "Grandpa was visiting and wanted Texas steak") that was accommodating/casual enough to tolerate a 10month old. Food was good: good flavors & felt/tasted it focused on the quality ingredients rather than mixing trendy mixes. Service was fantastic: TBH I scrolled yelp prior to going so may have been biased to the service. I felt like our server was curt at first, but she was actually stellar. For those who have never heard of it, it is a restaurant and butchery that revolves around "using ingredients that are present in our region". The ambiance is dimly lit and there's booths, tables, and a bar area. There's also an area right in front of the kitchen behind a wall. My partner had never been to Dai Due made the reservation in the area by the kitchen. We asked if we could be seated somewhere else but the hostess said the other tables would be taken. The Wagyu beef tartare was good. I liked the contrast of textures and the chopped apples. I had the burger and beef fat fries. Both of which were also very good. The burger was savory. I liked the sauce that came with the fries. The only downside of this experience was where we were sitting. It was loud and there's people walking behind you every five minutes. It felt very claustrophobic. When we left, nobody ever sat at most of the tables that the server claimed people had reservations for so that was disappointing to say the least. What a wonderful place with a unique menu focused entirely on local Texas goods, from the meat to the wine. I am in constant pursuit of the 'best cheeseburger' and had heard great things about theirs as well as the rest of the menu. The burger was fantastic and my first foray into antelope which was paired with wagyu. We also had quail stuffed with blueberries and rhubarb, quite a combination of flavors but all went charmingly well together. I love all "pocket" foods and they had a crawfish variation that was just the right amount of bread to sauce to meat ratio. The brussel sprouts were excellent. The fries were okay, I probably wouldn't get them again - they didnt have the crispiness I look for in my fried potatoes. I reconfirmed I do not like Texas wine much but they have sparkling water and a selection of beer for those who also feel that way. There are three choices of seating options: indoor table, indoor counter, and outside. The kitchen is an open concept which is fun. You can see things being fire roasted. When we were seated the maitre'd mentioned that the server would bring kids menus and then the server said there weren't any. The staff is quick to take menus away. I really wanted to love Dai Due as I've been looking forward to trying ever since moving to Austin. Who could dislike local farm to table ingredients? We recently went to celebrate my gf's birthday with a reservation for inside. The worst part of the evening was when, even though the hostess acknowledged we were celebrating a birthday, the information was never passed to the waitress. Instead, she gave us a dessert menu. So I had to ask another waiter if they do a birthday dessert, and obviously that just doesn't feel as special. Should I have to ask? Maybe I'm in the wrong. Either way she seemed embarrassed when she came back. Leave an "Oh No" if you think I'm being too harsh. Okay, now for the food. We ordered the mushrooms, a pork dish, the antelope and the okra, plus two non-alcoholic coolers. All of the dishes were good, although honestly the okra was both of our favorites. It was sliced and medium rare. The cook was perfect and it was quite tender throughout. It came with some bacon butter but I was also adding some of that good garlicly okra sauce. I was in the area for some gluten free donuts from Lola's (right next door and a 6/5, some of the best donuts I've had!!) and decided to check out this location as well. My experience is limited to ordering from the butcher section, but the Wagyu Roast Beef is literally the best roast beef I've ever had. Absolutely PACKED with flavor and well worth checking out if you like roast beef (or just food in general). I also grabbed some Kimchi to go, but I haven't actually tried it yet, I just had to immediately share my thoughts on the roast beef. They also offer a sit-down restaurant in addition to the butcher selection. The menu regularly changes, which is NOT reflected online (per the employee who assisted me) as it changes too frequently and significantly. That said, they do have some items that carry over each time, so it might be good to call ahead if there's something specific you're looking for. Not too sure about any overflow parking, as I parked in the small lot in front of Lola, but parking in this location was very limited directly in front of the shops. The restaurant itself seemed a bit busy and bustling, but I was quickly assisted at the cash registers and the employee was very friendly. All in all, this is likely a place I'll visit again, even if the drive is a bit far for a specific stop. Maybe the next time I go to Lola's. That's a trip well worth making! read more

So I've been a returning customer for at least 1.5 years, but as of recent, I've been quite disappointed. They've changed their portion sizes, and are also now charging for simple things like a side of fries (use to come with the burger at no extra charge) or an extra 2 pieces of bread (at stupid price) with any of the boards. On new years last year we paid about $200 a person and the portions we got were less than half of what you usually get during regular meals which was super disappointing and felt like a rip off. Last time I dined in (about 4 months ago) I found a cricket in my salad and they just brushed it off and said "it's cricket season!" . I didn't get any discount off my meal or apology from anyone, I was so grossed out I didn't finish my meal. And I should have spoke up and not paid for my salad to be honest. I wasn't crazy about the gravy either but I think that was just a preference on my part. The biscuit was so good. Smeared some of the butter that came with the nilgai on it, chefs kiss. The beet ketchup was fine because I like beets but I don't know if ketchup was the right term for it. The service was really good. The food was very average. I wasn't a fan of the beet ketchup. I didn't really enjoy the sauce on the oysters that were tiny. The fries were floppy and not crispy. What an absolutely magical place! We went for brunch and the hardest part was deciding what to order. The coffee was strong and flavorful. Others at the table got the yaupon iced tea (contrary to the coffee- super mild.) The BLT was the best I've had perhaps ever. All the produce was super flavorful and fresh and the bacon was cooked perfectly. I believe it was on a sliced sourdough and that was also very good. Other items ordered for the table included the beef fat fries, the beef fat donut, and the Texas breakfast- all just wonderful and super flavorful. What was incredible is we all had a good amount of food but didn't feel heavy afterward- a great feature for a brunch place as you don't want to be too weighed down for whatever else you've got to do that day.
