Came in to check out the selection earlier today, had a great selection of meats not seasoned and unseasoned which all looked fantastic and very affordable! Picked up a 1lb pack of beef brisket burgers and 1lb of chorizo. Cooked the burger and it came out amazing! Nice flavor, good textured meat. They even had deer antlers for a great price for the dogs! Can't wait to try out the chorizo and other meats next time around.

NOT OPEN ON SUNDAYS AS ADVERTISED! Great product but the maps hours shows it to be open 9-5 Sunday.

Excellent selection of high quality meat products! Appetizing sides, at least appetizing to me, are available also.

I also wasn't much of a meat eater back in those days, so I mostly had tried their sides. Now we're both on keto, so we go for just the meat. The meat was some of the best I've had lately! If I had one criticism, the brisket was just the slightest bit dry, but it had the perfect amount of fat to still make it taste good, and the smoky flavor was perfect! The turkey was moist, and probably my favorite part of the meal. We didn't order sides, but the included pickles were better than standard. It was rainy when we went there, so everyone was packed inside. There were barely enough tables. Their outside seating is not covered. There was no line, and my husband had finished our order by the time I had shaken out my umbrella. The air conditioning was a little too cold for a rainy day. The parking lot is all designated handicapped parking, but we got street parking right next to the building. Since we live on the east side, Micklethwait is convenient, and it has earned a place among our favorite places to go eat!

I thought it was odd that they would be closed on weekends when people have the time to shop along with being closed before people get off work. But those hours make sense when you realize they produce for distribution, not dine in. There's almost 30 reviews so far, but I was surprised that not a single one of them included any photos. If you're coming to this part of town, parking is always a concern in this area. The good news is that there are about eight places to park at here, otherwise you'll have to park in the street, but at least there's no kiosks. As soon as you pull in, the air is filled with that familiar smoky aroma. However, once you step inside, you suddenly realize that this is not a place you can dine in. Basically the first 10 feet of hallway is where the customer service takes place. There is a cold case with all of their sausages on display, including a little beef jerky, and that's it. I have to admit I wish they had brisket and ribs too. They do make a tamale-based sausage for Christmas as a seasonal item. The prices are very reasonable and there is no tip screen. This is not just a grab and go operation, their sausages can be found in virtually every H-E-B. So the good news is that you can find them here or at your favorite H-E-B. Check out the nine photos included.

But unfortunately the BBQ, which should be the star of the show, just didn't quite hit the mark for me. I came in hoping to try one of their lunch specials, only to find out they had recently discontinued them. I almost left but the staff kindly honored the deal anyway, which definitely turned things around in the moment. I ordered the chopped beef sandwich with garlic parmesan fries. While the food wasn't bad, it lacked the depth of flavor I expect from Central Texas BBQ. Even with sauce it didn't deliver that rich smokiness or bold seasoning I'm used to. That said, maybe I just chose the wrong dish. Their menu does have some intriguing options like crispy duck, ribs, an elk burger, and a full bar. I might give them another try during happy hour or if I'm nearby, but I wouldn't make a special trip just for the BBQ.

I'm partial to baby back over spare ribs. Brisket was decent. Fatty slices were much better than the lean. Sausages were a star. Both were moist and great amount of fat. Pickles and red onion were a nice touch. Overall, a different spot than the norm and worth a visit. Prices are by the half pound and generous.

Got a spot right up front which happens to be the entrance to the butcher/shop area. Nice sign directed me to the rear of the restaurant for the host and was sat immediately for my 6:15 reservation as I arrived early around 6pm. Jordan was the person taking care of me and they did a wonderful job. Great recommendations. Started with the grilled shrimp and they were tasty and I can't put my finger on what made it taste different. Perhaps the lime zest? Devoured those quickly. Next up was the antelope leg and y'all ain't never had it before but would order it again. Cooked amazing, easy to eat and those fries?!? Bye, just bye. I could do a whole plate of those and not bat an eye. Dessert was the basque cake and as anticipated fell inline with the rest of the meal. As you can see no plate (even the shrimp) was returned with something on it. Sooooo good. If you're looking for a new place to try, do it.

We had a lovely arugula salad with garlic chips that were so good. We also ordered the beef cheeks which are normally gone by 12:30/1pm and I can see why. They basically melt in your mouth and so tender. Before your steak comes out they give you a smoker tour. We came at 5 pm and unfortunately they were out of brisket but we were able to get some of their other items such as barbacoa, chorizo sausage, tri-tip, pulled pork, wings, and regular sausage. Most of the meat was good, tender, and juicy! The sausages were fine - no large snap and it just tasted like sausage. The chicken wings were very juicy, tender, and satisfying but the flavor just tasted like buffalo (which I don't love), nothing special other than the quality. The barbacoa disappointed me; it was way too pulled and honestly just felt like mush. Lastly, the pulled pork was fine. My main disappointment came from the sides :( If you're like me, the entire meal makes the experience, not just the bbq or drinks, but the bbq AND sides. The kale slaw was good, pork hash and rice didn't taste like much, chri-papas were my favorite and savory, potato chips tasted typical, elote salad was nice and fresh, and the miso carrots were actually very yummy. I was surprised when they didn't have potato salad or mac and cheese but that's okay. I enjoyed that the meals came with pickles, onions, and a side of sauces. The sauces were soo delicious, tangy, and spicy!! Other than that, the vibes were good - I liked the natural lighting and decor of the place.
