Made a reservation for a party of 8 for 7pm. Seated promptly and very inviting. The environment was extremely loud,and the bar was two three deep mainly people waiting for tables. Because of that,we where constantly getting bumped in the back from wait staff and people trying to pass through. Service was super slow 25min. For the first drinks to arrive, then about the same for the waitress to return to tell us the specials for the night. Which all seemed very appetizing. Didn't Receive apps and salads until about 830. Iceberg wedge very fresh could of used some more dressing or maybe crumbled blue cheese, stated by both people that had it. The other apps where very good. Entrees showed up 915 which didn't come all out at once, with plates so hot and the tops of the food almost a crust from the heat lamp or sitting in a oven? Scary part is the easiest dish to make "dad's Sunday dinner" angle hair & meatballs, sausage came out last. About 10min after everyone else recd there meals. Half the party enjoyed there meals (because at this point think they where just starving) the other half not so much. Lobster risotto sauce way to sweet and I like sweet. Lobster little dried out (from sitting). a 22oz Delmonico special,black as the night,when it came to the table all you smelled was burnt meat. ordered med. parts so overdone the black char could be scraped with a knife. And the 22oz? more like 10. I guess grilled out the other 10+ oz. When it was sent back the waitress came back and stated that the "chef" states that is how a Delmonico cooks. As if it was her first steak. Or the other 7at the table that also agreed. they did replace it with a very nice shrimp scampi. They tried to rectify all issues with a round of drinks. But at that point not interested, just bring out the bday cake and wanted to get out. And that is the only thing that saved the staff. They served the Bcake that I brought and served it as asked(when I made the reservation I did ask if I could bring a cake) even though the waitress seemed annoyed when I asked for forks came back and literally threw about 20 forks in front of me. After this long rant. Bottom line they seem to overbook, which in return causes everything to move very very slow and the food and service suffers. If I was to try this place again it would have to be on there slowest night, and then I would still be leary. I really hate to bash a business but if they don't know the issues they will never be able to rectify the problems. read more

My husband and I have been to Cusumano several times now and I continue to look forward to each and every visit. The owners started greeting us personally after only our second visit which to me was impressive. This family business does cater to their customers, if they make it as a special and you give advanced notice that you would like to have it when you come in, they will make sure it is there for you. Some of my favorites have been their zucchini flowers (special), stuffed artichoke (special), Clams Cusumano (unbelievable), sea bass, and anything with their sauce on it. Even when I order something that does not have their sauce on it, I order a side of pasta only so I can get it. These are just my favorites, I have not had a bad meal there and as I mentioned, we have become regulars. I've already mentioned the family but the customers are also really nice. We typically come in early for a reservation to have a drink at the bar. WE have had some really nice conversations with other customers doing the same. We also brought a large party in to celebrate my husband's birthday. This was also a success. The service was extremely good just like it usually is. What an awesome place! Just had dinner on a Tuesday night and wondered if we would get a table! Although it's not on the menu I had the spicy calamari and would say it's the best calamari dish I have ever had! Come on...goat cheese!!! Really!!' Try it! Service was nice even the place was pretty busy had the bone in 24oz Ribeye...better than anything I've ever had in NYC. They say it's grass fed which makes it soooo much better. What a great meal. Now that I've been here a few times I feel comfortable with their review. All around nice atmosphere. Service is probably the most proper I've experienced in the area in a long, long time. Their menu is a mix of Northern & Southern Italian cuisine, and they also sell Old Forge style pizza. On each visit, every dish was prepared perfectly and staged appropriately. The food is very good but, unfortunately the drinks are the reason for a low rating. You receive a soda 75% filled with ice in a tiny glass and 25% soda, then you are billed for every soda. The pricing of this restaurant is pretty unreasonable with drinks. The service is somewhat slow. The host was miserable, we made reservations a week ahead of time and probably got the worst table in the restaurant... We asked to switch tables since there were open booths & she told us no due to other reservations. When we left those open booths were still not taken. Our waitress was very accommodating and nice but, that host ruined our time. I advise reservations and asking for a booth or table when calling. read more

I've had several decent meals here since they opened. One caveat that's kept me from returning since around March of this year is this: THE MENU IS VIRTUALLY IDENTICAL AS WHEN THEY OPENED. For the love of Pete, change the menu seasonally! We had a very lackluster Valentine's Day dinner there and were seated near where the employees were outside smoking. I went there on a Thursday night w/ a group of 5 friends. Service was great. Waiter was fast & very friendly. He checked back w/ us several times to see if we needed anything. I was very impressed w/ his service. Food was wonderful. We all ordered something different and everyone loved what they ordered. My only issue was w/ the check. They added an automatic tip to bill. However, we were not told this was going to happen or see it on the menu. Several of us added an additional tip because we paid w/ a card and there was a line for a tip. The automatic tip should be more clearly displayed to the customers. read more

I am a server in the restaurant business for many years and have never had such a horrible experience at a restaurant in my life. We were the first table in the restaurant and our waitress already had an attitude with our table from the beginning. We ordered drinks and appetizers and entrees because we had heard this place was amazing this was not the case. It took over an hour to get our food and when our food came out it was not edible the scallops were undercooked, the chicken Francese was over cooked and hard and the grilled chicken dinner was burnt and dried out. My two other joiners at my table sent their food back one saying she needed the scallops cooked more and the other did not want anything else just the francese off the bill after waiting over an hour for food we were over the wait. The chef came out and my friend just said she did not want anything else but that everything was okay. We ordered dessert and coffee because we were celebrating my graduation from college. We were handed the check with the francese still on the bill and when we asked the waitress why it was on there she said the cook told her to keep it on there, so we then asked them to make a francese to take home because we were paying for something my friend did not even eat. The cook said no. If that's not enough to boil your blood, they had four of their employees crowd our table and take the coffee and cake off the table before we were even finished. We started to get up we left the cash tip on the table. As I was getting up I had two workers of their establishment reaching over me in this pandemic where social distancing is supposed to be taking place that was not the case they were less than a foot from my face. We then left and looked at the credit card statement and they put on a 23 dollar gratuity even though we left a cash tip, when we called and asked about that we were told it would be put back on the card in 3 days for something that should not have been on there in the first place. I then called because I was not satisfied by that response to let them know for future reference that they made us extremely uncomfortable with crowding us while we were getting up, the young girl on the phone told me they have reservations set for an hour and a half, how are you supposed to enjoy a meal when it takes over an hour for your food to come out, I told her I completely understand and we were getting up but there is no reason to get in someone's face. I simply said some of us have immuno-compromised at home or elderly that live with them and for the future maybe not to do what was done to us. Her response in return was I have compromised people at home, she then asked if that was it and said bye without acknowledging the mistake they made and how uncomfortable they made us feel. I would never be back to the establishment there is no class or respect for customers and hope that anyone else who goes there does not have that problem. The food being horrible is one thing that we chalked up because you have off days in the restaurant business but the disrespect for customers was appalling! read more

I found this restaurant to be lacking in service and overpriced. Their drink prices from the bar were more expensive than in New York City. The food was just so so. Nothing to write home about. For what they are charging they really need to step up their game with so many other great restaurants in Old Forge that offer great food at a great price and a decent portion size. If you like good homemade food this is the place to go. I have seen them making handmade ravioli's and the pasta is to die for. This isn't like any other restaurant around its made from scratch and you can tell. If you want a fine dining atmosphere then eat upstairs it's great for date night. if you want a beer , pizza and to watch a game then go down stairs to the Cellar the bartenders are a great time and they make you feel like family. Was here before, this time i was slightly disappointed. Service was ok. A bit on the slower side. To start off me and the hubby got clams cusamano. Hmmmmm.....kinda strange. It was steamed clams with crumbled sausage on top and then doused in a pesto sauce........clams and sausage def go together, But the pesto threw it all off. Something didnt go together, it didnt taste right. I am not gonna lie, we ate it all, and thats just cuz we were starving! But would not order that again. Bread was good and crusty and hot. I like how they give you the evoo to dunk it in. They also give you this bean dip for the bread. I remember last time it was some garlic bean dip and it was so good. This time it was a sun dried tomato one.......not so good. Salad ok.....mixed greens with an ever too simple oil and vinegar dressing. I hafta say tho, my veal marsala was pretty good. We had an 8pm reservation and were seated promptly, but we waited 20 minutes for bread while staring at the dish of olive oil and red pepper hummus that was already on the table. Service was pretty slow all around. The menu looked wonderful and we ordered a few appetizers because we couldn't decide. The stuffed artichoke special and the lonza/provolone plate was delicious. The beef carpaccio was also delicious, but after taking the first bite my friend and I had to take the beef off of our pieces of crostini because they were totally burnt (black). The waiter took it back to fix it, but it came back with two out of the three crostinis empty of beef. I thought that was extremely tacky. The beef that we ate off of the burnt crostini was not replaced when the order was corrected. The entrees were underwhelming, the butternut squash gnocchi had a good flavor but was very dry. The brasciole over fettuccine was not very tender. The risotto was good, but needed a lot more salt. All in all, the appetizers outshined the entrees. With so many other choices for Italian food in this area, I probably won't be back. read more

It would be my fondest wish to be able to dine here weekly.  As a New Yorker, it takes a lot for me to fall in love with a restaurant, but Cusumano has done it!  A friend of mine from the area had been raving about it so I finally surrendered and made the trip.  Worth every mile and traffic jam on Route 80 to get there.  It was a busy Saturday night but we didn't have to wait long for our table...which was a good thing because I was salivating from the aroma and watching the gorgeous plated food that was arriving for the guests already seated.  Everything we ordered was presented perfectly and prepared to precision.  I am still dreaming of the lobster pasta and can't wait to return! read more

Dinner was excellently prepared and piping hot. We ordered the antipasto as an appetizer and would definitely recommend it. My entree was the gnocchi with Dad's Sauce and my wife had chicken parm. We both loved out dinner. On the down side, I thought service was slow. We were seated at 820 and received our entrees at 1015. I'm willing to wait for good things, but I thought that was a bit much. The dining room was also quite loud. We ended our dinners early to get wrapped and take home leftovers so we could save room for dessert. At that time of night, there were only two choices left on the dessert menu and neither of them were appealing to us. While I can't take points off for this because it's the luck of the draw, try to avoid the first booth-- we shivered all night with a cold blast of air every time someone came in or left. We will most likely return because of the quality of the food and will hope for service to improve. Cusumano's has very good food and drinks. However, they are waaaaaay overpriced for the area they are catering too. These prices may be cheap in say NYC, however in Old Forge, $8 for a simple salad is way out of line. Everything is ala carte as well. Again - not cheap. I'd give it five because we loved the place, the food and the service, but my veal in veal calabrese was dry and overcooked. The 'calabrese ' part was fantastic! My wife had wild boar parpadalle and loved it. Our anti pasto for two was enough for four with fresh mozzarella, fabulous meats, olives, etc. a meal in itself. Generous drinks and great bread and oil with a roasted red pepper hummus that they make that was fabulous. Service was great and what our waitress didn't know, she went to find out. Went to the owner for wine recco for the boar and though it wasn't on the 'by the glass ' menu, he opened a Belagaio (?) and sold us a glass. My tiramisu was well done but I'm used to the lady fingers being soaked, these weren't, kinda dry. Our 42nd anniversary and we've been out like this every year, we've dined all over, Seattle, Chicago, Dallas, DC, and many others, agreed this was in our top 5. Bad reviews here were about service, ours couldn't have been better. Oh and this is Scranton, everything is about families and friends. Turns out this place is owned by the same family that owned a local grocery store that opened a country mart out by us. First owners retired the kids now run it, but the original 'mom' owner still hangs out at the restaurant to greet regulars, and was next to us! Told her I missed their tomato sauce out at the country mart she said, 'maybe soon!' It's great. Will miss this stuff when we move. read more

The restaurant took over an hour to bring our first course and 2 hours to bring the main course. The second course came when we were about ready to give up and leave without eating dinner even though we were quite hungry. The food was just okay. We had a grilled vegetables, which were half raw. The eggplant and onions were not cooked enough to eat, but the squash and zucchini were at least edible. The caesar salad was very good. The chicken parmesan was good, although a little overcooked so the chicken was tough and the sauce was a bit salty. The fresh made fettuccine was very good. The server was great and was very apologetic that it took them literally hours to make our food. She comp'd the wine when she brought the bill since the food took so long. We were ready to give the place 1 star, but the server pulled them up another star for being so nice. With such incredibly slow food preparation, we would not go back. read more

We had a great time at Cusumano. I could not get over how accommodating they were to our food demands. One of us is a vegan, one eats no dairy, one eats anything, one is a vegetarian. Even though it was not on the menu, they made an incredible pasta dish for the vegan. We had sides of angel hair pasta with marina-delicious. Best was the grilled veggies, but if you eat no dairy, tell them to leave off the cheese. They were very accommodating about that. One of us ordered the veal Calabrese and it looked fabulous. It was my third time there and I have to say I like the fact that it seems friendly. They are very nice and if you people watch you can see that people at one table may know people at another table and it makes it a nice atmosphere. We had the Cusumano wine. Next I would like to talk about how amazing the bartender is on Saturday night he always makes perfect drinks and he is very very friendly. He makes the bar a great atmosphere to go and have a drink and stay for dinner at the bar. And by the way he's really easy on the eyes. I'm really bummed to write this review because I was really looking forward to enjoying the food we ordered from here. First I should tell you that I did order take out so I cannot give an appropriate review of wait times or anything. I will tell you that the place is beautiful and the staff was extremely friendly and got my food promptly. The food though was just not great I was a bit disappointed that there were no salads or bread included with the take out order. I don't know if it's common place but when I've ordered else where in the area those things are always included. Not a make or break point for me but still a bit disappointing. I ordered the chicken fetti alfredo and we also got chicken parm. It was not bad by any means but it was not great either. We thought the chicken parm was a bit too salty and the alfredo sauce was lacking, there just could have been a bit more for the portion. The pricing was a bit high for what we actually received. Having said this I will say I am going to try them out again. I believe that it may just be because we ordered out instead of eating it there. I look forward to trying them out again soon, maybe we'll order one of the other great meals we've seen reviews for. read more

My husband and I heard such wonderful things about Cusumano, and we could not wait to experience what so many people were raving about. I can truly say, we were not disappointed!!! My husband and I travel to NYC quite frequently, and I can say, this restaurant could compete with some of the best restaurants that we have frequented!! It reminded me of my favorite NYC establishment, Galli. We called for a reservation on a Saturday, and were told by the owner that the front dining area of the restaurant was booked, but that he would personally see to it that we had a table. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted by a lovely hostess and we were seated at a table in their back dining room. This room was just beautiful, with a stunning fireplace, soft music, and a décor that can only be matched by a restaurant in a bigger city! Our server arrived within five minutes of us being seated and promptly took our drink orders. We were then served warm bread with a trio of condiments, one being a tomato hummus, which was unique and very delicious. Our server returned to take our orders within 10 minutes after our drinks were served. The specials for the evening sounded scrumptious, so we decided to give them a try. Our first course was a dish called the Grand Antipasto, which had a variety of imported meats and cheeses, along with roasted peppers, artichoke hearts, Kalamata olives and a mixed field green salad to balance the dish. One of the best antipastos I have ever eaten, and the presentation could have come out of a magazine! We then were served our salads, which were very fresh, with just the right amount of dressing. A very professionally dressed chef took the time to deliver our salads, and to inquire about our first course! Amazing service! Our entrees arrived about 45 minutes later(quite prompt for a white tablecloth establishment), and we began to eat what would be one of the best dinners we have had in this area!! The crab cakes were just that, all crab!! No fillers, incredibly fresh and delicious! The veal osso bucco melted in your mouth with such incredible flavor. It was served with a marrow spoon to scoop out the marrow from the veal shank, something I would say is a very unique touch for this area. We tried the Gnocchi with a red Sunday sauce, which also included a meatball, this dish was outstanding. These were potato Gnocchi, not Ricotta and they melted in your mouth, The sauce was definitely a Sicilian recipe, with just the right amounts of basil, parsley, garlic and onion. Outstanding! Our dining experience from start to finish lasted approximately 2 1/2 hours, which I consider to be quite dynamic considering the level of cuisine we were being presented with . The staff at Cusumano were courteous, and very gracious, and we were treated as though we were repeat customers, or better yet, family!!
