Visiting our hometown area so we stopped for some pizza. We ordered red and two crust white. The red was very good. We didn't like the white. Salty with no rosemary. I remember the white with rosemary. I don't think there was anything wrong with the white. It just wasn't what I was looking for. After being loyal customers for over 13 years, tonight's experience was incredibly disappointing. My husband ordered the fresh fish special, yet after the rest of our meals were served, eaten, and cleared, his dinner still had not arrived. Only after 45 minutes did our waitress inform us the fish had actually been frozen, that was why it was taking so long. At that point, my husband politely stated several times that he no longer wanted the meal, as he had already eaten pizza from our table while waiting. Despite this, the staff continued insisting on bringing it out anyway. The situation escalated further when the chef came out and told my husband he would still have to pay half for a meal that never even touched our table. We have supported this restaurant for many years and never expected to be treated this way. Mistakes happen, but accountability and customer service matter. Unfortunately, tonight neither was shown. Not sure what happened to our beloved local dinner spot, but we will not be returning. read more

I have been going to this restaurant & getting pizza take out from here for over 20 + years. What happened to this place? What happened to their food quality? This restaurant had absolutely amazing pizza at one time. A few months ago I ordered pizza take out from here & I was really disappointed. The crust was like a piece of bread & the sauce had no taste. I thought this was maybe just a bad night for them & decided to wait awhile and then order again. After waiting few months I ordered a tray of red & a tray of open faced white. For lack of a better way of describing it , it was terrible. The crust of the pizza was just like eating a piece of bread. Not only was there no crunch, but the pizza itself bended when picked up . The sauce had no taste whatsoever & was barely there. And the cheese? Let's talk about the cheese! I have no clue what what going on with the cheese, but it looked and tasted like slices of American cheese thrown on & melted. Now for the open faced white: again the crust ( or lack thereof) was like bread. The topping, almost non existent. There was very little cheese, no onion, and to my amazement no seasonings. Not a piece of rosemary or any other type of seasoning discernible . I'm going to be forthright here: we threw both pizzas in the garbage. No one in my household would eat it after that first bite. And before anyone might question why I didn't call them to complain? I'll tell you why: because these people have been making pizza out of here for about 40 years. They know what they are giving to their customers. I do have to say that everyone I came in contact with who was working that night was extremely nice. However, based on my 2nd try within a few months with the pizza, I will not be ordering from here again. It's a shame really. At one time only the best ingredients went in to their pizzas & no tray went out of there unless it was perfect. Sad to see a legacy like this not preserved in the way it should be. read more

Mediocre at best. Eggplant Parm was trash, the dish was filled with greasy liquid at the bottom, tasted burnt and the sauce had no flavor. Pizza was not good. Ceaser salad lettuce was old and turned. Staff were friendly but took forever for service. Atmosphere was nice and cocktail well made. Recommended for drinks not bites. read more

Had my baby shower here was excellent we had chicken marsala, white wine, chicken, meatballs, sausage and peppers, and tomato garlic pizza. The tomato garlic pizza is unlike any other in this area. I am more of a Sicilian New York type of pizza person. I enjoy Classic New York pizza so in this area it is mainly old Forge but this pizza is flavored so well it makes you forget that it is old Forge pizza. The tomatoes are cut enough so that you can take a bite of the pizza and the tomato doesn't fall off the pizza Has also flavored very well. We had an excellent service. They even went out of their way to bring their own decorations. The regular pizza is also good. I think they might put very small minced onions in the sauce which adds to it being almost like a fried pizza even though it's still old forage it's almost like hybrid. I haven't tried any other other pizzas besides the regular and the tomato, but you can't go wrong with either one of them. read more

Random find, working a project nearby. So authentic inside, feels like 'Merica to me. Staff super friendly, and great pricing. Obviuosly a local favorite been there since 1981. As I was leaving a funeral party came in and it was obviuos this was a community establishment. Now for the Pizza...without a doubt the best Old Forge style I have had, and I have had many! Excellent, excellent, excellent. I asked Yelp for a top rated restaurant near the AVP airport and it paid off. Starting with great service from a friendly young lady who took my order promptly, got my beer, kept my water refilled, brought my dinner with a smile and made sure that my check was presented and returned quickly. I ordered the antipasto to start and I specifically asked for the small one. What arrived was enough food for three. And no, not all lettuce. There was more "stuff" on here than filler. sliced boiled eggs, beets, cheese, probably a half pound of sliced ham, cucumber, just a whole lot here. Main course arrived with a flourish. A huge bowl of rigatoni noodles in a marinara sauce with two large meatballs. It needed the cheese from the shaker of parmesan, but that was easy enough. I also added just a little bit of red pepper flakes. But that's just me. The sauce was nice and rich, the meatballs were tender and held together well, the noodles were just the perfect al dente. And so much of it. When the check arrived, I was a little surprised at the price. All this for $22.50? Wow! read more

I picked up 2 antipasto salads 2 days ago and was looking forward to enjoying them with my wife that evening. I was terribly shocked and angered when we opened them and began eating. I asked for red wine and vinegar dressing on the side. When I shook the container and poured it on my salad and began eating, I realized it was pure red vinegar. I had to add our own Italian dressing to the salad to make it edible. I soon realized, too, that there were NO eggs, NO red beets, and NO cheese or salami rolled up in the cold cuts. Much of the romaine was NOT fresh and some of it was dirty. I wound up throwing the salad away. AND THE PRICE I PAID for this garbage was over $40.00 for the 2 salads. I called the owner the next day and he answered my call by saying...."YEAH?" That was completely insensitive and unprofessional!! We've purchased many meals here at this Avoca Restaurant over the years, but this disgusting salad will be the end of our going there!!! I would not recommend this joint to anyone who wants a good Italian meal. The place has gone way...way...down hill. Even their pizza is not the same good-tasting pizza it used to be. It's drier and no longer has that unique flavor their pizza once had. read more

Wonderful Italian restaurant! We are NEVER disappointed here. The food, the service, the prices, OUTSTANDING! The fresh tomato garlic pizza and the shrimp pizza with hot peppers are great selections, just in case you're in doubt on what to order. We chose the crab stuffed portobello as an app to spilt as well as the soup of the day, Chicken pesto tortellini. The soup was delivered piping hot and was brimming with homemade goodness. The crab stuffed mushrooms is made Parmigiana style, you get fresh Italian bread with it. The bread you might think is overkill, no, you need the bread to sop up the amazing sauce. The waitress brought it to the bar her and I'm guessing was the cook we're picking through it not having a clue it was like shoe leather . BEWARE OF COLARUSSO,S IN AVOCA: May 8, 2021 - I called Colarussos's in Avoca at exactly 7:09 PM to ask if they were open, I was told that they were open till 8:00 PM. At that time i informed the person who answered the phone that we were coming from Wilkes Barre and should be there by about 7:30 PM. We arrived pretty close to that time. As my wife and I sat down we were told that they were totally OUT OF FOOD, All we could order was pizza. As a result that's the meal we had for Mothers day as it was too late to try for another place to eat. My wife asked for a salad, Guess what, All the salad was gone too. Hands down my favorite Italian restaurant in the area. Between the food and the old school atmosphere, what's not to love? The fresh tomato pizza is my favorite of all time probably. I haven't written a Yelp review in probably over a year, but Colarusso's warrants one. Never in my life had I had better gnocchi in pink sauce. They are the most fabulous, homemade, melt-in-your-mouth gnocchi I've ever eaten. I order takeout gnocchi for lunch and then eat the leftovers for brekkie the next day, because I'm fat. Their pizza is usually everyone's main squeeze when coming to Colarusso's - and there's no question that their pizza is equally as incredible and worth the trip. We've been going to Colarusso's for years,but moved out of the area a few years ago . When ever we get back to the area we try to visit the restaurant. Food is always great from pizza to pasta to tripe. If you've never had tripe as long as you don't know what it is and you have good Italian bread to sop up the sauce you'll go home happy. Our server Mary Ann, who we've known for years, is top notch. The only reason for the four stars and not five is they play 50s Do-Wop music. We are not fans but we endure for the great food. read more

Very disappointing. Went a few weeks ago for "Lobster Tuesday". What I got was freezer-burnt and not good at all. I complained with about half a lobster tail left, the waitress said "I'll take care of it" and took my plate, again with HALF a LOBSTER TAIL that I had paid for. I thought "Oh good, maybe I'll get a new one." After all, I left a huge portion of it, and she took it away. Well, that didn't happen. The way the waitress "took care of it" was to give me a free beer on tap that I never asked for. I was charged full price for the lousy HALF lobster tail I ate. I doubt I'll be going back. read more

Outstanding pizza! It's got this zing to it that makes it taste completely different from any of the nearby restaurants. And when the nearby restaurants include the famous Old Forge pizzarias, that's saying something. Service is friendly, but wait times can be long, even though there's plenty of seating. Plus if you order pick-up, you could be waiting a good 10 minutes longer than they'd said the wait would be. The worst part is parking. Their lot is small, and good luck trying to find somewhere to park on the street. Still, if you can get in, get a table and get some pizza, you won't regret it. read more

Honest to goodness stumbled on this place because just about every place else in town was closed at mid-day in this town. Boy O Boy am I happy we did! It was a great stop. We had the "new" salad and a Stromboli both were good and HUGE. The salad had all the ingredients of and excellent salad but it was not quite prefect. Apples should have been tart not red delicious and it was a bit on the fruit overload with oranges, apples, and crasins. That said...it was fresh and tasty just a bit overdone. Now on to the Stromboli....YES and YES! We ordered a small it was enough food for 2-3 people and stiffed to the max with the ingredients we ordered. Last I want to mention how friendly the staff and customers there were (took this review from a 3 to a 4). I'm mean the ladies at the next booth gave us a slice of their pizza because they saw us looking at it on the way by and had overheard we'd never been there before - THAT kind of friendly. If we ever get back we will order the pizza for sure. Nice community pizza/Italian spot. Oh and they have a full bar and lots of LOCAL IPA's in the fridge. read more
