My boyfriend and I came to their BBQ pit yesterday and it was awesome! It was my first time here and it did not disappoint. Service was good and it was all outdoors which was great on a sunny day. Very very Noisy. Took almost 2 hours 45 minutes. No dessert. We waited SO long after appetizers. They squeezed our party of 6 next to the bar. Middle people had a split table in front of them that was uneven. Yes we had a reservation. Poor waitstaff did the best they could. People milling around the bar right next to where we were eating. The reviews are spot on for this place. First the food was excellent. Taste, price and presentation were great. Drink prices were outrageous and even charged for soda refills. The glassware was covered in lipstick and was filthy. The place is crowded which makes the ticket times very slow and the atmosphere loud. read more

Every time I visit the area, I ask my friends to dine here. The atmosphere is classic white tablecloth, but you don't have to overly dress up (but you can) to dine here. Consistently great food & service. The clams Cusumano are my favorite appetizer. I've never been disappointed with any meal and look forward to returning. read more

I can't blame the racist, conspiracy nut patrons seated next to us on the ownership, that wouldn't be fair. I'm all for diversity including diversity of thought, but these people were ignorant bigots. Not a shock for the locale I'm sad to say. Anyway as for the food, service and overall experience, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't disappointing. For a town that bills itself as the "pizza capital of the world," the old forge style pizza at Cusamano's doesn't hold a candle to Arcaro's, a place that's caddy corner to here and not currently doing dine-in. We were passing through town and frankly weren't in the mood to eat this interesting style of pizza in the car on a chilly evening. Perhaps we should've been? After pulling into a One-way parking lot the correct way and nearly ending up in a head-on collision thanks to someone who couldn't read (even arrows), we walked inside around 5:30 pm on the Saturday after thanksgiving and the place was dead. Nonetheless, we were greeted by a hostess who made it sound like we were asking for an audience with the pope. She did "find a table" in the back room, and that's where our high hopes began to fade with every seated moment. We ordered a tray of red pizza with sausage & mushroom, along with a half tray of plain white pizza (read up on old forge style pizza if you aren't familiar, they don't do "slices" or "pies" 'round these parts). For an appetizer, we went with stuffed artichoke. Drinks were Diet Coke for the missus, and one of the cheapest red wines ($9/glass, at least the pour was ok and glassware was nice) from cusamano winery in Sicily for me. No complaints on the beverages, although they were a bit slow to notice my empty wine glass for a refill. Normally they're all over that like flies on...honey. I got a refill eventually. The appetizer? Well, it came out AFTER our pizza main course. Coincidentally, our appy was served at the exact same time as our microchip-fearing neighbors order of the same appetizer. That reeks of kitchen sloth, or "efficiency" at the expense of customer service. The pizza? If you're making a pilgrimage to this pizza capital for its namesake speciality, try somewhere else. The white pizza is a bland calzone in self-denial. See photos. It's literally a dough exterior stuffed with molten hot cheese and with very little flavor. No marinara to dip it in. We had to ask for larger plates, otherwise we would've been stuck with the tiny ones for bread. The replacements weren't much bigger. The red pizza? It was passable. The sauce was bland, no onion flavor or really any discernible taste there. The sausage was high quality and the mushrooms we could find weren't bad. Also, the crust was baked perfectly: crispy undercarriage and crust without being burnt. It supported everything else very well. The flavor sadly wasn't there. The artichoke? I don't care for it regardless of who makes it, but boo loved it. This speaks volumes as she grew up with a mother who packed artichoke for school lunch in the face of mockery from classmates. The chocolate cheesecake dessert was great and tasted like it was made on premises or at least locally in a basement somewhere . The espresso had an amazing crema to the point where I was concerned they put cream and sugar in it. Oh and the bread + oil served to start? It's standard issue. That's a good way to describe Cusamano's as a whole (handicapping for location): standard issue. Thing is, you can do better, even in this small town. Especially if you're going to hail yourselves as the pizza capital. Cusamano's is fools gold as far as fine dining or amazing pizza. To end on a positive note: Even pyrite has its shine!! read more

We were traveling from out of town and our hotel gave us some suggestions for dinner so we decided to try this one cause we heard so much about old Forge and the Pizza so we went to this restaurant and the pizza was amazing. Really amazing. The pasta was delicious. The atmosphere was very nice Cloth tablecloths a little romantic prices were good and we would definitely recommend going there if you're ever in that area the only reason I didn't give it a five was that the service was slow. read more

The service was excellent. I had expected more from the food. Granted...it was a Friiday night, and it was jammed...non stop turning tables. The peach martini was excellent. I had to stop myself after 2! Nice size glass and smooth as silk. If this review were based on bar service and table service, it would have been a 5 star review. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. I had the veal marsala, which was small pieces of veal with ALOT of mushrooms and heavy brown gravy that was rather tasteless. The side of pasta I had was good, but their red sauce on this evening was slightly bitter. But..because the veal was small, I ate all of the pasta. Hubby had the shrimp risotto. The shrimp were very good, but the risotto was sticky and lacked flavor or spices. It was not creamy with a flavorful broth as a typical Italian risotto. Don't be fooled, this is among the most impressive Italian cuisine that you can find in NEPA. I was telling people this all week--Cusumano could compete with many Italian restaurants in big cities. The prices are high but there are not many parallels... you can't just walk in to any other place in Old Forge and insist that it's better without explaining what the specific comparison or portion size is. The gnocchi dish for $18 was divine and anything else I've had in the valley is laughable in comparison. Only issue is that service was very slow. read more

To be honest, I wasn't going to write a review but the management needs to understand that they are failing their entire staff. Having lived in major metropolitan cities on both coasts and working in some of the most popular/busiest restaurants and cafes for over a decade with talented FOH and BOH coworkers, I've come to expect a certain level of professionalism and service when dining out. Even if it is in Old Forge. My experience at Cusumano can simply be described as disappointing. We arrived just before 7pm this past Wednesday evening after a long ride from the Newark Airport after an even longer day of travel. I requested a table for three on the enclosed patio. We were seated. From there we ordered drinks and after they were delivered, we placed our food order no later than 7:10pm. (And that is being generous with the time) There were three tables of diners in our section: 2 two-tops and us, a three-top. We watched the others order, eat, and leave before our main dishes arrived and before anyone came to ask if we needed more drinks (or anything else for that matter). By 8:15, I went into the main restaurant to request that someone please check on our food. It was only after that interaction when someone came to refresh drinks. Our food finally came out at 8:30pm. It was not worth the wait. Tough, almost boiled, meat. Perhaps a crowded pan was the culprit? I don't blame the servers I encountered. They were very polite yet clearly under trained. Management is responsible for educating FOH on many facets of service, including adequate communication between FOH and BOH and most importantly- guests. Does the kitchen have anyone on Expo? Is the line losing track of tickets? Is ONE 10-top really enough to throw the entire operation into disarray? They had to have made a reservation and so the staff should have been prepared for it in advance. All of these shortcomings fall on management. If not for enjoying our conversation, we probably would have taken to the kitchen and assumed control of the operation like a gang of Somali pirates- "I'm the captain now!" Dining out is an experience. For whatever the occasion and of all the options in a given area- restaurants, fast food, delivery, take out- owners and staff should be grateful whenever guests choose to dine at their restaurant for a meal. Complacency kills. Restaurants had an extremely difficult past few years. We're lucky to have been able to weather the storm. Don't spit on the graves of those that went under by not delivering a reason to dine out. From the head chef, the line, expo, servers and bussers and runners (oh my!) on down to the most important position- the dishwasher- it's a skill. An art. An art that can be taught and cultivated which then culminates in a diner's experience they will remember for all the right reasons. read more

I don't think it gets any better! Cusumano has the best traditional and modern takes on Italian cuisine. The Wild Boar Ragu and the Chicken Calabrese are my favorites. This is my favorite spot in Old Forge. Best pizza in town in my opinion. Crust is always perfectly crispy brown on the bottom and there are some pretty unique options too that I really enjoy (hot anchovies and ricotta onion are both great). But there's more then just pizza. The dinner options are also outstanding. gnocchi with pesto cream sauce is one of my favorites. Good sized portions (especially the chicken parm) and if your looking for some different traditional Italian dishes this is definitely the place. The sofritto the tripe and the veal and peppers are all excellent. The cellar is downstairs and features a really cool bar that also serves food and has some great outdoor seating. I have been here twice, the first visit I ordered a dinner special it was a pork chop. It came with nothing but a deep fried pork chop no sauces or sides a very plane meal for a restaurant of these prices. My wife ordered a lobster meal that was excellent but the pork chop was a disappointment. We just went back again recently. Both meals were excellent but this time it was the atmosphere that blew it. The bar filled with Bud drinking loud mouths that seemed to think they were at TJI Fridays or somewhere similar. It was so loud in there and out of control that I could barely here my wife talking. Restaurants have off nights where things just don't click and I get that. But this was beyond anything I've ever experienced and talking with family & friends from the area, this was not at all an isolated incident. As a party of two, our meal took over 3 hours from the time we were seated until the time we left. And we didn't order anything extraordinary - an antipasto for appetizer and 2 entrees, 1 being a pasta dish & 1 a chicken dish. No dessert. I learned quickly that if you order any type of alcoholic beverage (I started our long adventure by ordering a glass of wine which was clearly a mistake), the wait staff will purposely delay your meal in order for you to continue ordering drinks. We didn't see our waitress for an hour & a half after we finished our appetizer, but the bartender "checked in" on our table at least 4 times in that duration. I asked her multiple times to please ask our waitress to bring out our entrees, but nothing. At one point I left the table to use the ladies room (knowing it was directly across from the kitchen) and our waitress was sitting in the kitchen eating cheese. I made a reservation for 8pm and upon arrival was told I did not have one. I told them I made the reservation at 2:17pm and gave first name and last initial. The waitress then took us to a table on the patio and wiped the table down but left it wet. She then came and dropped our menus on the wet table. She then came back and basically threw our bread and water @ silverware on the table loud enough that ppl turned. I then told her no one should be treated like that especially customers that were going to drop $100+ dollars for a dinner and drinks. We got up and left. Plenty of parking, there were no seats at the bar so we sat at a booth. The staff was very nice and no rush to turn the table over so we were able to sit and enjoy coffee and desserts. Our meals were all excellent I had eggplant and it was tasty and fresh. A friend had the shrimp risotto and said it was very good. The presentation would b better if the plates were not so big but I guess that didn't matter since we all enjoyed it so much. Truly one of the best meals I've had in a very long time. The ricotta stuffed squash flower appetizer was very lightly floured and delicately fried and was delicious. The wild boar ragu had perfectly cooked meat, tender and tasty, on top of homemade pasta with a delicious homemade sauce. Even my wife's filet, which she orders "ruined" (medium well) was tender, juicy and delicious. Desserts were great. Cocktails were generously poured (dirty vodka martini with gorgonzola stuffed olives), and they had a decent selection of craft beers. You can tell that they run this restaurant with passion.
