Culinary Dropout located in Austin Domain area prides itself on its service. You may have heard that the food gets you in the door, but the service brings you back, or something like that. This gastropub is eclectic on its overall layout, food and the people who work here. The place is a combination of indoor / outdoor with seating in both inside and the outside area where the outside consists more of ping pong table, for eating, with high top seating, casual table and bar seating. The outdoor area you can play corn hole, ping pong, fuse ball and they also have designated band nights. On the cold day's they let down the clear plastic shielding to keep things cozy. The inside seating is separated by a pass through bar area that allows seating on both sides. I have to say the build out is an eclectic design that fun and festive. The menu is easy to follow and is sorted by antipasti, soups and shareables, salads and sandwiches and entrees. On this occasion I came during brunch and got the egg sandwich. When it came out it wasn't a fried egg but more of an egg beater type. They quickly changed the sandwich without any fuss. Same thing for my cocktail. It was very nice of them to take the extra steps for care and custody of the whole experience. If your ever up in the Domain, definitely give Culinary Dropout a try. This is my new go to favorite spot. First of all, I was having an issue making a reservation on the app, so I sent a dm to the business. Within minutes, Dusty answered and had me call! He squeezed us in for an 8 pm reservation, which is a perfect dinner time. My 2 friends and I had such a wonderful night. This place is very lively and energetic. There are lots of TVs and yard games to enjoy and use when hanging out. I also loved the open glass showing the kitchen. For drinks, I had the room service. So fruity and bubbly! For an appetizer, I had the pretzels and fondue, and the crunchy bread. For dinner, I had the cheeseburger. I really liked the pretzels and fondue. The crunchy bread wasn't my favorite. It was over powered with the mix of balsamic vinegar and garlic. My cheeseburger was cooked to perfection and yummy. Overall, I had a great experience with amazing food and outstanding service. I don't even know why i came back here. The attitude and fakeness from each employee is beyond me. Everyone thinks they live in L.A. where it's ok to act uninterested or even bored with what they're doing. The food isn't even that good. I'm gonna go ahead and stop suggesting this place to friends from out of town. Having brunch on a Saturday and wondered into a domain fateful. My first time but lots of people have suggested this place. Me and my wife had a great visit out siDe beautiful day. This used to be the place you could find me if I wasn't home. I will forever crave their Soft Pretzels & Provolone Fondue. The pretzels are like little clouds and when you dip them into the fondue of pure gold happiness you can't help but smile and dream of unicorns. I would even sometimes order them togo if I was having a bad day. They will turn a sad day upside down in mere seconds. The main course, my husband and I usually split The Pub Burger. Nothing fancy, but everything on the menu sounds regular. Its not until you put the item in your mouth that you realize it is not normal. All of their items are far from normal. They are amazing! And of course, you need something to wash everything down. The best deal is to do the brown bag special. It is like Russian Roulette, but there is no losing. Yeah, you might get a not so great beer, but drink it down quick and order another. Next time you might get a better one. And keep on going! After reading many reviews I decided I would try the spicy vegan curry and wowww I was so glad I did! It was amazing! I scraped the bowl clean. Really good. I would agree it is more "soupy" than most curries, so I ordered a side of the crusty bread and it was just perfect. To me, it was not spicy whatsoever and it had more of a Thai coconut curry soup taste than an Indian curry. Especially delightful with the chilly weather last weekend. And no, I am not a vegan or vegetarian. This place was an overall hit with everyone in my party. Plenty of indoor/outdoor dining and there are heat lamps and tv's outside. I saw this place and HAD to go check it out, so I managed to make it a work happy hour/dinner type thing. Initially scheduling the reservation gave me some concern as I was told that a party of 12 had to be arranged though their off-site booker, but then the booker told me the restaurant is supposed to manage reservations for 12 people and under. Not a very inspiring start to be honest, but we got the reservation. All was good. When we got there, the vibe was nice and seating outdoors was not bad at all. Big shoutout to the covered patio and fans they have. It sounded like there was a live music (couldn't find the person performing though) and it was a little too loud to easily have a conversation. These were to be expected for the location and time we went though so. What made me upset, was the fact the burger I ordered was SO dry. Now, to be clear, I am not one to usually complain. I even cook my own food a bit on the dry side just to have peace of mind that I'm not eating anything raw, but this was burnt. I couldn't finish it and my coworker who also ordered the burger couldn't finish his. Luckily, there ended up being some confusion among the waitstaff and we ended up with an extra Katsu sandwich (which looked amazing; I wish I had ordered that instead). The appetizers we ordered and my other coworkers meals were/lookedgreat though. The ribs were a popular choice and they were all gone by the end of the evening! Suggestion to make a ressy if you can but they do take walk ins! The bar is also open seating and there is a lot of it. In true Texas fashion the place is also quite big. Food thoughts: the pretzels were amazing. So was the green chili stew. Their beer list is great, as well as their crafted cocktails. Other things on the menu look amazing, the only thing we were disappointed in was the peroigis, it is a sharing plate yet the portion was very small. This place has a great atmosphere. We were here tonight and were treated like trash. We got here pretty close to 11, which is when they close, but they were rude to us from the beginning. They prioritized white people who got the there way after us (and way after last call) and made us feel like we didn't belong. We were the only brown people there and they made us feel less-than. I really hope a manager reaches out because this is unacceptable. Not that it matters, but we are educated professionals and they made us feel like children at a playground. read more

Came for brunch/lunch today with family. The place was busy, even at 11am, but we were able to still be seated early for our reservation. The layout and decor are fun and unique. There are windows open to an outdoor area with tables and games (ping pong, cornhole, foosball) and then the indoor area with a cool tile bar and a casual retro/rock vibe. Even with the windows open it never got too hot indoors...wonder how much they pay for that! The service was great and the food exceptional. We started with deviled eggs and the crunchy bread appetizers. I only had the eggs (solid choice), but the others RAVED about the bread. For an entrée I ordered the M.A.C. Burger with no bun, which is basically their take on a Big Mac. Best burger I've had yet in Austin, and FAR better than the much-overrated Hopdoddy burgers. It came with a small Caesar salad which was great as well. I also snuck a bite of my son's Captain Crunch French Toast. Sooo good! I mistakenly thought it would have a crunchy layer of cereal crust, but it was like normal French toast with a subtle Captain Crunch flavor...all the best part of the cereal with none of the negative aftereffects of a torn up mouth and filmy taste. Oh my goodness, this has to be one of the best places to eat in the Domain. My fiancé and I came here the first day we moved to Austin, and it was such a warm welcome for us! The staff are all very friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere is super cool. They have a nice rotating selection of craft beers, which we really enjoy sampling! My fiancé is obsessed with their fried chicken, and I cannot live without their spicy vegan curry. If you're in the area, definitely give this one a try! read more

Walked by many times thinking this was a outdoor sports bar. Half the place is a big open area with a large bar, ping pong tables, etc. the other inside half is a typical American pub-ish place. We made reservations on a Thursday night to meet some folks for dinner and drinks. Had to wait 40 minutes for our table to be ready. Seating was a bit cramped when we finally got a table. They did comp us a couple of appetizers for our wait which was nice. Food was mixed. My chopped salad was unique, good but very light, nice if you are looking to stay away from the mostly heavy menu. The rest of my party had the fried chicken, meatloaf, tacos and green chili. General consensus was solid, but nothing we would return specifically for. Drinks were on the pricey side. Have to say our waitress was very good. Didn't stay for dessert Overall, go,here if you looking for a bar with food. Nice place, great atmosphere, not my favorite menu, but cool place and good service. I've been here a couple of times for lunch and gotten fish and chips each time. Each time service has been pretty quick and courteous, especially considering they get pretty busy for lunch, and for a group of people they're fairly fast. The first time I got fish and chips they were pretty good, with about 3 decent sized pieces with some coleslaw and fries on the side. The second time I got them it wasn't as good, more salty, smaller pieces, and a bit overcooked, but not bad. I did have to ask for lemon and malt vinegar (which I feel should have been provided upfront) but not a big deal, so the consistency is a bit off but it could just be a one-time thing. It's a nice place but for me the menu is a bit too American and not many options for gluten-free eats. It'd be cool to get to hang out outside and play some of the games, especially when it's nice weather, but so far I've only gotten to try the food. Their other food looks good so it's a bit disappointing that they don't have more options. read more

This place is just not good at all, you know that feeling when you enter and something is off? First when we sat it was a very weird bad smell throughout the restaurant, but since the spot was packed and the wait was 30 minute we decided to give a shot. Well we usually split our meals, so we ordered kale garden salad and prime rib deep. Garden salad: The salad was described as heirloom tomatoes, avocado, grilled asparagus, tahini lemon dressing, pine nuts. Sound nice isn't it? Well. The restaurant split the dish already for us and these were two tiny bowl, like tiny tiny. There were no heirloom tomatoes in it at all, barely any asparagus, just bunch of kale and dressing, they also added cucumbers which were not in the ingredient list. So it was just bunch of kale with some pine nuts, one cherry tomato for each of us, two small pieces of asparagus, two tiny slices of cucumber and a BUNCH of dressing. Well okay you can fix anything with bunch of dressing. Cool. Next the dish: French prime rib deep. Well I even took a picture. This portion is a joke. I noted to wait that our portion looks so tiny, just bunch of bread. She said "well, it's made for one person", we ordered two dishes and shared. That's what we always do. Dong go there, don't waste your time, money, and enjoy other places with better food and adult portions. read more

I met up with a few friends last weekend for dinner. I made a reservation since it was a Saturday night. I had issues making the reservation on Open Table so I had to actually pick up the phone and call in, but I digress lol... I haven't been to the Domain in years, so I had a bit of trouble finding it when I parked. I should have just followed the sound of the music. I didn't realize that they had live music. My friends were already seated at the table when I arrived (glad they didn't have to wait for me). Our server was great! She explained the menu and how the ordering process worked. For apps, we had deviled eggs, asparagus, and the beets with goat cheese (I didn't have any of the beets and goat cheese). Ordering apps is similar to ordering sushi rolls. There's a paper and pencil and you mark down what you want to order. For my entree I had the rainbow trout. It was sooo good. The skin was crispy and seasoned and the meat was tender and flaky. It went great with the almonds and green beans. To drink I had the Soiled Dove. It was tasty. The portion of the entree was generous. I had leftovers for the next day and it was just as good. My only complaint (and reason for 4 stars) is that it was incredibly loud. We were near the band and it was hard to hear each other across the table. The music was pretty good, it was just loud. They have a great patio area and I think there may have been games like corn hole, but I can't remember. This would be a great patio to hang out for brunch. Tip: If you're looking for this place on the Domain's website, make sure to look on the Domain Northside. I had no idea that Domain Northside is completely separate from the Domain. read more
