    Algae in full bloom
    Todd Y.

I've used Crystal Clear for 10+ years, so I don't give a 1-star lightly. Was very happy with there service for several years, but a few years ago things started downhill sharply. - Technicians started simply not showing up to service. We'd still get billed, and it would take a lot of phone and email to get a credit. Sometimes I just gave up and took the hit, as long as the pool wasn't in trouble. - One tech (Lewis), when he did show up, left cigarette butts in my yard, and frequently neglected to clean. - Another tech (Jordan) failed to show up frequently; didn't backwash my filter for 2 months; emptied my skimmer baskets on my lawn; and one time called to tell me he couldn't make it because of traffic that day. Which would have been fine if I didn't see him through a window parked next to my house as he called me. The last straw was when all this turned into an Epic Algae Bloom. Jordan (the person servicing it!) commented on how bad it was, and that I (!) should do something about it. I tried calling them a few times, finally got them to say they'd come out sometime, and then nothing happened. By the time a tech came out, I was handling it myself. I've seen where the owner reads and responds to these reviews. Rather than comment to me on how the relationship could be salvaged, I'd suggest you look to your team. It has been clear for the last 2 years that they have no interest in making your business successful, retaining customers, or providing a quality service. Example? I wanted to buy a $4k heater off of you. I was told they couldn't get one for 5 months. 2 weeks later, I had a running pool heater from another company. And I have given them many, many 2nd chances on the issues above.... UPDATE: CCP&A are the only people that have done my chemicals. I've since learned that my cyanuric acid is at 189 PPM (should be ~50). I now have to dump almost my whole pool because their techs couldn't be bothered to check or manage the chemicals.

I started using Crystal Clear Pools & Spas to service my pool toward the end of 2017. Their reviews overall are pretty good. In spite of this, we started noticing spotty service. We got billed once a month for a full month's of service, but the technician was not coming every week as agreed. We would call and complain, and things would improve for a little while, but then the service would fade again. Finally, we made a pretty big stink because we had our pool resurfaced in September of 2017, and now it was already stained because they weren't keeping it clean. Once we made enough of a fuss, we were told they fired the guy who was supposed to be cleaning our pool. They said it would be no problem to remove the stains, and not to worry. I wasn't worried, until I got a bill for over $500 for stain removal -- stains that were only there because the guy did not clean the pool, which I had also paid for. Over the next few months, our new pool technician was consistent, so we paid the fees and started to regain faith in this company. We got through most of the summer without any issues. But in October/November, we started again noticing that the technician was failing to come for weeks at a time. We would call and complain, then they would clean the pool. The next week, we didn't complain, dirty pool. It was fall, so we had lots of leaves, and with some heavy storms, twigs and branches fell into the pool, where they sat for weeks. It is easy to recognize the same branch in the pool for a couple of weeks in a row. Of course their website says that they perform "comprehensive pool maintenance services including the following: Vacuum and Leaf-eat pool Remove Surface Debris Brush Pool Wall Surfaces... They didn't do any of this, again, for weeks at a time. The holidays were a busy time, so I ended up letting it slide until January. Then, I called and firmly complained. I explained that time and again I am having to pay for service that I am not getting. The next day, my pool was spotless, but they said that "because there were so many leaves in the pool gumming everything up, we will have to clean the filter." You guessed it... another $500 charge to clean the filter, which was dirty because they had left the pool unattended for weeks at a time. I spoke to the manager firmly and told him enough was enough, and this was his final chance. He assured me he would randomly check on the house himself to ensure that the work was being done to their specifications. He didn't refund any money for work that I paid for but didn't get, but he did strongly reassure me that I would never experience this issue again. So, as January becomes February, I went out of town for a few days. My pool day is Thursday. On Saturday, I came home to find that the pool was green with algea and plugged up with leaves. Clearly no one had cleaned the pool again this week. But, there in the mailbox was a bill for $313.93 for the work they didn't do. I called first thing Monday and told them they are fired. They say they vacuum the pool, but their guys don't have a vacuum on their truck when they come. If they come at all, they spend at most 10 minutes at the house. They do balance the chemicals, I guess, but they don't do any of the other things listed in their comprehensive maintenance service list. When their neglect gets to the point where the pool is totally disgusting, then they charge you again for actually cleaning it. That may not be everyone's experience, but it has been mine. The only good that came out of the interaction is that they agreed to cancel the bill for $313.93. Look at the attached pictures to see how my pool looked on Saturday. Again, Thursday was my scheduled cleaning day, so this was apparently how green a pool can get in two days. You tell me if you think they were providing the services they were charging for... I have switched to another company. The new company cleans the pool weekly, and then sends pictures of the clean pool to verify their work.

Hector the pool guy is so professional and does an outstanding job. Thank you so much for all your hard work

The weekly pool service is generally fine, but if anything goes even remotely wrong (which it will because they're scaling rapidly and training new folks), Patriot is nowhere to be found. In the time we've been using them, they've incorrectly cleaned our filter twice, stained our white pool tiles, and caused our skimmer to operate incorrectly. It has been pulling teeth to get them to return to fix it - many calls over many weeks, and at present, our skimmer and pool tile are still not resolved. In the case of the skimmer, our pool has an in-ground cleaning system and generally stays crystal clear throughout the spring months. Twice now, Patriot has come to clean the filter, and the skimmer has stopped operating immediately after. The first time, a tech returned a week or so later and told us their filter crew had forgotten to switch something to do with the skimmer back on (it was immediately fixed once he corrected it). This time, it stopped operating correctly immediately after the filter-cleaning again (same timing, same issue) and Patriot (after failing to return our calls, then sending people who weren't trained to investigate or resolve the issue three separate times) is telling us there's nothing wrong. This has been going on for well over a month at this point, and apparently we're going to need to pay someone else to come out and fix it. In the case of the pool tile (see pics below) Patriot acknowledged fault for the issue, and tried a number of tactics to resolve it, none of which worked. So it seems we're stuck with the stains. There are lots of pool companies in Austin. I'd recommend you go with a company that stands behind their work and fixes their mistakes.

HARD PASS. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL!…read more Moved to a new house and shopping for pool service. Submitted an online request on their website Wednesday around 9 AM. Out of the 5 companies I submitted a request to, they were the 2nd ones I reached out to but the last ones to reach out back to me (excluding the auto-generated "thank you" text which the other pool companies sent as well). Lisa from the office called me Wednesday at 5:38 PM and said she could have a tech come out the next day to give me a quote. Jose came out Thursday around noon. He was super nice and professional. He said he would get me 3 different quotes for the 3 type of packages they offer by the end of the day or the next day (Friday) in the morning at the latest. By Friday at 4:25 PM, I had yet to receive anything so I called and spoke to Lisa and she said they'll send it over shortly. They sent 2 quotes (not 3) at 4:40 PM. Monday morning at 10 AM, I called to discuss the quotes for further clarification, especially since the links weren't working. Lisa said she's going to call Jose and call me right back. She never did. Tuesday morning at 8:28 AM, almost a week after I had initially reached out, I called saying they never called me back and asked to speak to a manager. She put me on the phone with Jose and he was a totally different person than the guy that came out to the house. He kept interrupting me and talking over me. He was rude saying I didn't know anything about pools (that might be true but this is not my first house with a pool and that's not something you'd say to a prospective client), and making excuses for their lack of responsiveness. If they're this bad when they're trying to earn my business, I can't imagine how bad they are once they do earn it. Reading some of their other reviews, I should've just never reached out to begin with. TLDR: Unresponsive, unprofessional/rude, overpromise/underdeliver. Ended up going with a different pool company that responded right away and was able to get me on the schedule immediately.

They were tasked with emptying our pool's sand filtration system, and as per the line items on the agreement it SAYS 'remove sand and haul off property." So what did these guys do? They DUMPED the entire sand contents onto our grass property next to the pool house. I was livid. We were not informed they'd be doing this (nor did we want random sand spread ALL over our lawn!?), and then they just left like we wouldn't notice mounds of sand?! It wasnt even dumped in one spot, it was SPREAD all over our property like someone was building a sand pit. They left trash next to our pool and around our pool house area (zip ties, cut tubing, screws). I have a 1 year old who eats everything so as a mother, this is obviously insane someone would leave choking hazards around. Not to mention leaving trash in general is unbelievable unprofessional. It was packaging for the pool lights. Oh boy lets talk about that! They installed new pool lights, tested it extensively while here, only for my husband and I to try them out and realize 1 of them flickered like crazy and flat out stopped working. What on earth was this guy testing all that time during the day!? One guy came to do all the chemicals in the pool after fully draining it to pressure wash the pool, he didn't even have a vacuum to remove all the dang sand. He CLAIMS he was informed of it too late and he was already on his way. Don't care, unprofessional, yet again. You mess something up, you fix it immediately. Any respectable company would do this. It's been a week and they said they'd be back to vacuum up the sand on monday. Come Monday, did anyone show up? NOPE. Not even a phone call saying they cannot make it. I'm so pissed Ace Hardware has the audacity to display these guys' business on their front doors, btw. The Ace in Georgetown. Laziest worst communicating business I've ever encountered. These guys are the absolute WORST bothersome stressful group of men I've ever seen run a 'business'. I've lost sleep over how awful these guys are. UPDATE: they came today to "clean up the sand", check the photos. Plenty of sand still present. They clearly didn't vacuum it like promised. I saw the beardy employee just sweep it around looks like he used dirt and leaves to spread it around on top of the sand still present. This isn't even fine sand, it's incredibly thick! What a joke.

Freedom Pools - Pool Cleaning Review (1/5)…read more I had my pool fully renovated in April 2024, investing over $23,000 in repairs. Following the renovation, I continued using the new brand "Freedom Pools," as Sandy was a part owner involved in my renovation project. I trusted the continuity would ensure quality -- I was wrong. Over the past two years, I've had to spend an additional $2,400+ in repairs from outside pool service representatives just to correct issues that Freedom Pools should have handled. There were stretches where my pool received no service for weeks at a time, leaving me to deal with problems that only compounded. I had surfaced the issues showing employees not coming for weeks at at time, while I still paid for service. To Sandy's credit, when I raised concerns and he finally responded, he acted to get service restored. I'll admit, I wrongfully held on, hoping he would make things right long-term. I continued making the wrong decision by maintaining my loyalty to Sandy and his team, giving them chance after chance. But here's the core problem: his team shows up for 8-10 minutes per visit - verified by cameras. That is simply not enough time to properly service and maintain a large and deep pool, especially one with a $23,000 renovation investment behind it. The work being done in those brief visits is surface-level at best. Getting leaves out and adding chemicals. Occasionally back-washing but not vacuuming or determining root cause issues. Today was the final straw after the fourth need to externally source and pay an external pool provider -- yet another event requiring an ad hoc service call, and yet another exorbitant charge ($800) from a repair service to fix what should have been caught and handled during routine maintenance. Looking back, I could have paid the right person a higher rate from the start and avoided all of this -- the headaches, the repeat repairs, and the thousands of dollars wasted trying to save a few bucks. Lesson learned. Bottom line: If you have a pool, don't cut corners on maintenance. Freedom Pools may seem affordable, but the lack of thorough service will cost you far more in the long run.
