The food here is as close to New Orleans as I have found, and I'm very picky about good creole food, travelling to New Orleans at least twice a year. I usually get the gumbo and the shrimp po' boy. For the po' boy to me a little more authentic, it should be served on a french bread, rather than a sub bun, but still very good. The only negative thing is that it is in the safest part of town, and there is little to no seating indoors. I know they are working on adding an indoor seating area. read more

We went here based on the Yelp reviews. Let me start by warning you, to put it nicely, that this place is in desperate need of urban renewal. A crack whore and her pimp were walking down the road, there were drug deals going on in broad daylight, menacing looking groups of people hanging around everywhere (white, black, Spanish) this is not a race thing. The white woman in the car next to me asked for cigarettes and money from us. Anyway, if the food was excellent, maybe I would venture here but the food was just not good. I had blackened chicken. It was tasteless, was not blackened or even seasoned and was sitting in a pool of tomato tasting water. I'm not into tasteless waterlogged chicken. The dirty rice is made with chicken livers instead of sausage so I didn't get it but got the "cajun rice" which was spicy in an almost good way. I got the potatoes which were also borderline okay. The place itself looked like it should be condemned it was so dirty and run down. The woman who helped us was not the least bit friendly but sold us food out of what seemed like obligation. When I miss NOLA, and I do ALOT, I fill my belly with Crawfish Ettouffe or something equally authentic legit and the ONLY place to get fill your heart/soul/spirit with food full of love in every bite in all of Franklin County Ohio and possible further. They are SO successful where they are located, it's part of who they are, I really wish they could branch out to a 2nd location as well one day, as I am not comfortable going one my own for carry out at night. I do believe they serve the community well where they are and a great business like this is a catalyst to positive change for the whole community. Ordered online for lunch and time was changed and then arrived and they didn't have my order - meaning they were not paying attention to their online orders and made me wait another 10 minutes for jambalaya. We finally found some excellent Cajun/Creole food in Ohio! We lived in New a Orleans for three years and this is pretty darn close to the food. We had seafood gumbo which was delicious, then seafood jambalaya and crawfish etoufee. All were great! You can choose the level of boom (spice) you like 1-5. We chose 3 which was pretty hot so I suggest 1 or 2. They also have beignets which were amazing! You can eat in or take out also. read more

I have been looking for a good restaurant like this, they do it right. Large portions, excellent tasting food, excellent food, and reasonably priced. They have a Toni Po-boy which I ordered the guy told me I would need a nap after eating it and he wasn't kidding the sandwich was huge. The food is great! And the prices are great. However the business inconsistencies are such a turn off. I've never dealt with a business who does not answer 90% of their phone calls. There are no clear hours for breakfast listed anywhere, so the information I've been told is all over the place; I've thoroughly checked their website, social media sites, and physical location. I've been to this neighborhood place several times when I lived in the area because they were open and there. Reality is that the food is horrible. They are always out of stuff, today it was chicken wings. The fried oysters are marble sized and the cornmeal breading is always burned. The fish is usually burned as well and it seems to me it's due to the oil in the deep fryer is burned. That leaves me to believe that it's old and not changed often. Anyone that goes to the restaurants website is in for a rude awaking when they see the condition of the restaurant itself. An absolute shining gem in a very hidden neighborhood. Hard to find (from Mt Vernon, looking at the plaza, last unit on the right), but well worth the search. Delicious po boy subs, the catfish portion on my sandwich was as big as my head. I also got a side of mac and cheese that was on par with any high class restaurant. This summarizes what it's all about, good food, with little cares for the shop. The chef here knows that he doesn't need to advertise, or even put up a marquee on the store. This place is so yummmmmy!!!! I ordered my order ahead because I'm a piglet and I need instant gratification. I ordered the crawfish etouffee and jerk chicken wings. I had mac n cheese and collard greens as my sides. When I finally got back to my hotel room (i'm traveling for work) and in the safety of my room without any judgements I proceeded to scarf down what was the best meal I've had on this trip to Ohio. The crawfish and brown sauce was so good it hurt to throw the container away. The mac n cheese was perfect and the collard greens was perfect with the spicy crawfish. ( I got a heat of 5 which was spicy, but not so much that you couldn't taste what you are eating) The jerk wings were in jerk sauce and I prefer dry rub wings, but they were still tasty and full of flavor. I've visited twice in the mornings for beignets. They place them in a styrofoam to go container with a little foil. This lets them travel well from one side of town to the other. I've got some Cafe du Monde brand coffee grounds at home. Brew up some Cafe au Lait, have some piping hot beignets, and I am mentally transported to Jackson Square, N.O., and I never left Columbus! read more

We decided to eat here, after having read a review that convinced me to try it instead of Da Levee. I was so happy that I did give it a chance. I ordered the shrimp po boy, which was far better than the one I had in New Orleans, and my boyfriend had the gator, which was equally delicious (don't knock it 'til you've tried it). There is some sort of Eggs Benedict dish here that will make you wonder why you ever ate the run of the mill Eggs Benedict... I think it's only available at certain times, but I nearly cried eating it, it was so good! (And this was after waiting a while too, the chef was incredibly busy that morning.) When we drove from Polaris down here for lunch on the advice of one of my co-workers, you knew we really wanted something authentic. On this my first visit I had Jerk Wings and an order of Seafood Fettuccine. Yeah - what was I thinking. . I could have been full alone off of the jerk wings. A crazy amount of food was given to me and it was some of the best eating I have had in a long time. You can vary how spicy you want your food - which I like. Everything was cooked to order and I did not mind the wait. My cat at work stops there and gets breakfast now and then which means I get to hate on him the entire morning. Amazing Po'boys. Not sure how authentic they are, but who cares? Probably one of the best sandwiches I've had in Columbus; and you can't beat the value. One sandwich lasted me like 4 meals for just ten bucks! The rest of the menu looks solid too but I have yet to try. I'm definitely going back though. The Food: FREAKING AMAZING. Husband had chicken jambalaya... no part of this was not delightful. So good it hurt. Andouille sausage slices, veggies, rice and just plain good stuff. I had the crawfish etoufee, with sides of dirty rice and the potatoes. So. Stinking. GOOD. Well seasoned potatoes that didn't argue with my etoufee but complimented it just right, the dirty rice was bright and peppy, and I asked for a 5/10 on the spice of my etoufee and it was just about right for me, enough heat at the end that I could taste it, but not enough to obliterate my palate. The crawfish were perfect, tender and you could actually TASTE them!!!! Perfectly made, and each entree was cooked to order. Takes a little longer but worth it, worth it, worth it!!! So cheap, stupid delicious. The jambalaya full order will feed one person for three meals easily, so consider this before going all out and ordering the full sized :). If you leave this place hungry it's because you weren't trying. And every bit of food I had was perfect. We will be coming back, often and with glee. This is seriously some of the best Creole I have eaten, including places in Louisiana. The sweet tea that is local that they serve here is great too!! The Staff: Super nice front of house staff, friendly to everyone, welcoming. They were crazy busy so he was a little rushed and curt at first, but it was understandable. The Chef chatted with us for a minute when he wasn't working 8 pans. :) Southern hospitality all the way. The Ambiance: This is designed as a take out place, so if you are looking for a sit down restaurant, move along. They do have some seats and we ate in. If you are a snob and feel uncomfortable in an ethnically and economically diverse neighborhood, also move along. You might be approached by a homeless person, but you're not going to get stabbed. People keep saying they wouldn't go there at night, and I guess I get that, it's not a 'nice' area in that there are empty buildings and some run down homes. It's not Easton Mall. But it's also not like it's in a war zone or there were muggings and drive by shootings occurring at lunch. It's not like folks were shooting up in the parking lot. Seemed like most urban areas that had a manufacturing base, a little run down, in need of some TLC and new opportunities. I'm super irritated when people confuse the terms "run down" and "dirty". the front counter is a little beat up, and the floors could use a coat of paint. But this place is clean! It's a KITCHEN. There should be the occasional bits of food or flour on the floor, cause folks are working. But I have worked in lots of kitchens and if you think this place is dirty, you'd heave your socks if you went to the back of the house at your local chain restaurant. But if you're missing this place you're missing out on some seriously great stuff. read more

Went today for lunch. The Hostess, waitress, staff were all very friendly and helpful. The new dine in section is clean and moderately decorated, very nice atmosphere. We shared a cup of gumbo, wonderful, a lot of meat, just enough spice. We wanted Gator bites but they didn't have any today. I ordered blackened chicken pinot, my daughter had the fried shrimp poboy. The sandwiches were so big, we could have ordered one and shared. Yummy, both sandwiches were awesome. We will go back, trying breakfast next time. read more

I ordered the shrimp po'boy. It was not good, and was not my idea of a po'boy. The shrimp were fried, but the coating was not seasoned and not crisp - it was really soggy. I tried one of the shrimp off of the sandwich just to see if it made a difference, and it did not - it was really bland. The sandwich was "fully dressed"; it had limp shredded lettuce, lots of spanish onions that really overpowered anything else (I took them off after the first bite), a ton of banana peppers and a transparently thin slice of tomato. Period. No sauce of any kind, not even mayo. The ratio of shrimp to bread was way off - I put all of the shrimp on 1/2 of the roll. Cost of the sandwich was $12.
