    Hush puppies and fish!

I finally after so many years of driving by stopped in with my mother to get lunch! And it felt like we had took a step back in time. With the cool ordering system your order was delivered through a microphone and the people prepared it in the back! We got the platter for 10.25. Which included the fish and chips and hush puppies and a drink! Very tasty. The place was clean and really laid out nice. They had a full house!!

This is my second time here. First off, the service is great. Everyone is friendly and accommodating. The young man working, even came around to the table to make sure everything was good and to see if I needed anything. To be honest, it didn't initially appear that kind of restaurant. Pleasantly surprised. On Saturday they have an all you can eat special, so I lucked out and tried it. It included fish, chips, hush puppies, slaw and a drink. The slaw and fries were so good. The hush puppies weren't my favorite. They were a little too sweet for me. The fish was good. Overall it was a good deal. Did I mention the service? They came around with fresh extras. You didn't even have to get up from the table to get seconds. The place was busy, so it seems to be popular.

The fish and chips platter was really good. I would dare say the hush puppies were excellent. The service was quick and the prices were extremely reasonable.

It is with great regret that I have to remove a star from Marino's. Marino's fries would probably hold a spot in my top 10 fries in the city. HOWEVER, when I went today, they changed the fries they used. They are much smaller than before and are not nearly as good either. I hope this is a temporary thing, because if not, I will probably come here less often. I ordered the Crab Cake platter today, because it was on special. I wasn't overly impressed. Once you have had crab cakes in Maryland, it is hard to be pleased elsewhere. So, along with the change in fries, my experience was not the best. If I do decide to return, I will ask about the fries before purchasing them. Customer Service 1-5=4. Crab Cakes 1-5=3. Fries 1-5=3. Tartar Sauce 1-5=5!

Do not, do not, DO NOT let the low rating fool you. EVERY SINGLE 1 AND 2 STAR RATING IS OVER 2 YEARS OLD!!!! Yet, every single review after those have been raving, for good reason. You won't find a 5 star meal here. Hell, you won't even find a Chili's style dining experience. What you will find is a lot of good food, for cheap, made by a nice family that have done this for decades. The backdrop of the place itself, with its vaguely diner aesthetic and small but gallant display of award plaques, is secondary to the view of seeing 30 people crammed into this place for the lunch rush. Normal, every day people getting their usual lunch. That's the type of place this is. You won't ever find this place in a fancy top 10 list, but it'll be top 10 in my heart.

Very nostalgic fish place. It was Arthur Treachers in an old Arthur Treachers shop. Everything was fresh and hot. The cole slaw was very good. They make it onsite. I liked the hush puppies. They were fresh and sweet. The tartar sauce was a little different from what I'm used to, but still good. They have an "all you can eat" including fish, chips, hush puppies, Cole slaw, and soft drink on Saturdays. I'll bet they pack the joint for that offering. I will be going back at some point for that!!!

This was my first time coming here, it's a great Friday spot for Lent if you are someone who participates. The Fish sandwich had a nice crunch on the outside and soft and flaky on the inside. It came out fresh and hot just like the fries and Hush Puppies. The macaroni salad was very tasty. The people working are very friendly and very good at getting your food out at a pretty good pace. The outside and the area are a little bit of a dive but I am not one to stay away from dives, I think they have the best food. But, when I went inside the place was very up to date, clean, and very on brand with a fish place. It did not smell like fish inside, and there were plenty of people eating inside so you know it must be a popular spot with people in town. I would highly recommend stopping by and giving this place a try if you haven't already!

My first time in Columbus and I drove by this place and the signage caught my eye. Very old school and it looked like a staple in the community. I didn't know if I would get a chance to try them out but I did. I had some time to kill before heading to the airport so I dropped in. The customer service was good the food comes out fast and was fresh. They had all the condiments you needed from malt vinegar to tater and cocktail sauce and of course ketchup. Consistent traffic coming through and plenty of places to sit down and eat if you have the time. I would come back.

Tried Marino's for lunch to try their fish and chips. Two fish, 2 hush puppies, and chips for just under $10. I'm not a hush puppies guy but these were tasty. The chips were wedges and ok too. The two fish pieces were nicely fried but I got the feeling it was pollock fish and not a nice firm piece of cod. But with a little tartar sauce, I was good. There's other seafood to try but I test every restaurant first with their most basic dish, this time fried fish filets. The combos are priced very well so it was no surprise that the restaurant had a packed lunch crowd. Of course I'm spoiled by the fish and chips place I had in a neighborhood place in London, England. Two huge pieces of cod there. Maybe not fair to compare real fish and chips to any place in the States.

It's a throwback of the old Arthur treacher's fish and chips it's really a nostalgic thing for me however I found out on Saturdays they do all you can eat fish but just go check it out have a good time the hush puppies are probably the best but the fries and everything is just like old Arthur treacher's fish and chips. Don't get the crab cakes they are not good at all . Service is with a smile. Ambiance is the same as the old Arthur treachers

So I always read how Marino's is a Columbus staple and its been on my list for quite some time. I finally hunkered down to try it and I definitely waited too long! Its a very unassuming shop, decked out like a little time capsule and probably very easy to miss. However the food was excellent and affordable! I got the seafood platter and a side of fried oysters, cause why not? The fish was so crisp and light and it held up to a trip back home too. The fries and oysters were also quite nice. The scallops and shrimp were ok but again, for the price it was great! Even though I only had fried foods, nothing felt greasy and I basically ate my weight in food. If you're craving fried seafood of any sort, Marino's is a high recommendation!

I first went to Marino's when I was in college and living just around the corner on Chambers. It taste the same as I remembered, I feel it's the best fish n chips spot in the city. You have to eat it fresh I have never gotten it for take out. Its like Cane's for me if you don't eat it fresh the quality of it just drops off a cliff IMO. I don't think this has anything to do with them but just the nature of fried food. Maybe if you throw it in a air fryer when you get home but forget all that. Get the real experience eat it there. Get all the tarter sauce you can ever want to go with that crispy delicious fish. They have tarter sauce, ketchup and cocktail sauce in pumps. You can just pump out as much as you need. I like the fries not sure what kind they use, never really seen that kind of shape before at other restaurants that serve fries. My only complaint is the mac salad wasn't for me. Maybe I should have went with the cole slaw, in general I'm not a big of cole slaw either. The only mac salads I like are from the Hawiian BBQ spots. Will try the cole slaw next time. I don't remember if I have tried it in the past. But that isn't the star of the show and if I don't recall it even if i did try it probably wasn't something I would write home about. Service is fine they take your order you food comes out fast. Dinning room has a very old school vibe since the place has been opened for a long time. I am very glad Marino's is back opened. I didn't get a chance to go before they closed but I made sure to go today and support. Hope to see them around for many more years.

My favorite place to get fish and chips! Affordable and a step back in time!

Is this restaurant still in business ? Saw on google that it is permanently closed.

Closed for good, they retired. But Arthur Treacher's is going in there soon.

    What is the address?

    1216 W 5th Ave Columbus, OH 43212

Anyone know what's going on with Marino's tonight (Friday, Dec 28, '18)? We were craving fish, but it was deserted...dark, no cars. :(

Not sure as they were open today 2/26/21

The quality of food and service has really dropped. Went there for an annual and traditional holiday lunch with a friend--we've been doing this at least 30 years. I checked the menu online before I went so I could decide. A lunch menu was online. When my friend and I were seated, my friend commented that the prices had greatly increased. It was the dinner menu. When I asked our server whether they had discontinued the lunch menu I saw online--he said 'they must have forgotten to give it to us.' He returned with the lunch menu. I ordered the tilapia bianca. It was awful. The shrimp was steamed/broiled but the tilapia was fried. Who puts a buerre blanc sauce over fried fish and pasta? The pasta was lumped together under a third of the plate instead of under all of the food. I ate half, and boxed half because I didn't want my friend to think I was ungrateful, and threw the rest away when I got home. This was on a Friday at lunch time. Unlike when it was a Mitchell's restaurant and full on Fridays--there could not have been more than 8 other diners. I noticed that the host was still seating people with dinner menus. Due to a mix up a week earlier, I was unable to meet my friend and he stayed and ate. He told me they gave him the dinner menu that day too. I don't think they 'forget.' I think that business is slow because the quality of the food has declined, and so they make up the difference in the lunch sales drop off by hoping people won't notice that they've not been offered the lunch menu. I am unlikely to return.

Hubby ordered the fried tilapia which came with fries and three hush puppies. Those were two big pieces of fish. He also enjoyed it. However, for the price point, he felt they should have better hot sauce, at least Texas Pete, not generic. They do have a private parking lot and we sat in the car and ate our food. I used to enjoy all you can eat fish at Old Bag of Nails, but I just don't go there anymore. Do they even still do AYCE? LJS is its own thing. And when I saw the horrible reviews and very low stars here, I hesitated. But then I went and looked at all the other LJS locations in the area, a couple of which I've been to, and they all get horrible reviews. And I know that at least a couple of them are decent. Again, it's Long John Silver's. It's not high quality, English pub fish and chips. It's cheap fried fish. It's an occasional guilty pleasure. Most locations are paired with a Kentucky Fried Chicken, so you can get chicken of all sorts, plus fish, plus the sides. You can mix and match from both menus. I got a combo: one fish, one chicken, two shrimp. Comes with a couple of hush puppies, which I liked more as a kid. And a side, and I kind of like KFC's slaw. The fish and chicken and shrimp were pretty good; at least, on point for LJS. If I'm rating them against the best fried fish I've ever had, they are definitely on the bottom half of the scale. But as fast food, fried food, cheap food, they're not bad. The coleslaw was fine. The drink, Midnight Madness or whatever their yellow Mountain Dew version is, was horrible. I think the drink tastes bad plus the mix was off. Oh, and no crunchies. None! I've noticed fewer and fewer the last couple of years, but dang. And the whole experience, well, the heat wasn't working in their building. They were kind of slow considering they weren't busy. Friendly, and the order was accurate. Price was actually reasonable: $10 for a lunch combo. It wasn't bad. It wasn't great. Which pretty well sums up LJS. Cheap, fast, okay fish. That's what I wanted and I got it.
