Omg the cream gravy on the biscuits and gravy is sooooooo delicious! It is Full of cubed ham and bits of bacon. Creamy delicious and not greasy. It's served over 2 or 3 huge fluffy buttermilk biscuits that are amazing with better on their own. Their breakfasts are huge and are probably the best things on the menu. The omelettes will easily serve two people. Prices are really reasonable for the amount of food you get. It's also a great place for burgers as they are huge as well. And I have to say they do a good cup of hot coffee. Highly recommend this place. This morning, I was starting a long drive from Palm Springs to San Francisco. Never a pleasant trip. I decided to do a little research, and found a perfect spot for a classic, on the road, meal, ahead of time. My research paid off. A nice, local experience, the antithesis to the anonymous chain meal. My go-to diner breakfast is a chicken-fried steak with poached eggs and hash browns. Crazy Otto's delivered a satisfying rendition thereof. Not the best I've ever had, but, hey. They are a well priced place. And, that early in the morning, I ain't too demanding. Staff was very personable, without being cloying. To be honest, my server never came through with the biscuits and gravy, or even the water. Somehow, I got by without either. It was a very pleasant experience, and I highly recommend Crazy Otto's. To be honest, I truly hate the snarky, and petty, reviews, that permeate Yelp. I can't imagine having to deal with the unrealistic expectations of "the public". Your mom is not waiting to pick you up in the mini-van with a juice box. read more

They have a great cook there, but three weeks ago had mistake on my order. I didnt see until I got home. Thank goodness it wasn't "uber order" waitress requested me to bring order back to correct. Which I can't do in "uber world". Luckily, it my household, but literally had to take away from others eating. The correction went horribly, but I left knowing it was handled, over or so I thought. I've pardoned two other times without incident until today. Sat at the counter started to place to go order, then bamb change of waitress, one who was there 3 weeks ago. She retook orders. The waitress was rude and condescending to me. All in view of the owner he did nothing. Today my order amount was almost 55.00. I was going 2-3 times a week. Can't anymore. One thing I love about Crazy Otto's is there consistency. It is typically pretty easy to get a table sometimes a little bit of a wait their portions are huge they are very accommodating the stuff is kind. The biscuits and gravy leave a bit to be desired but that really is a small detail overall I love that if I just want to go and get a good breakfast I know for sure I won't be disappointed. I have been going to them for years and do not have any complaints other than the biscuits and gravy not being up to my taste. Amazing! This was my very first time here. I just got over an illness that prevented me from enjoying food and being able to visit restaurants... When we pulled up, I was not too thrilled with how packed the parking lot was - but we found parking instantly. Given that I've been sick for years, I wasn't in the mood to wait or be uncomfortable. Once we walked in, my eyes freaked me out at how busy they were - I absolutely hate crowds... but again - we had no wait and were seated right away. We weren't rushed, our orders came out pretty quick, was hot and perfect. Our waitress was Kim and we loved her! We tipped her the same amount as the total of our bill. Crazy came through with flying colors with the biscuits and gravy, but fell way short on the chicken fried steak. First bite tasted totally like liver. THIS POST IS REGARDING THE CRAZY OTTO'S ON 1228 West Avenue I Lancaster,CA Besides the slooooow and weird service...............................however, this place is awful. They told us that we would have found fresh and HOMEMADE food. Now, maybe we don't know exactly what "THEIR" HOMEMADE means.... But the food was terrible, DRY/overcooked/hard; with no flavor and seemed OLD ! Their famous Roast Beef that we ordered, almost turned to powder when we cut it. The Au jus tasted like it was from a cheap bouillon or a nasty can. We complained about this (after we waited for 45 min. for our dishes) and the manager/owner said it was our imagination and that the food was FRESH and FINE. He also had a sarcastic attitude, treating us like we were stupid. Well, for sure they lost 4 customers....... PS: The blinds surrounding the booths of the restaurant are sooo full of dust. It's OBSCENE !!! I wouldn't go back even if they paid me ! Pss: Their abondigas/meat balls soup was good, if you like to have it out of a TEA CUP !!! (Such a small ridiculous portion). I used to eat at the first Crazy Otto's when I was a little girl. I remember train tracks and some kind of wheel where you could win stuff.... Anyway, I just ate at this one a couple days ago while visiting my mom. I almost forgot it existed!!! It is less than a mile from her house! This place is awesome!!! If you go, go HUNGRY. If you eat like a regular person, order a half. Trust me, order a half!!!! They feed the hell out of you!!! If you ate here every day and ate a whole entree they would have to lift you out of your bed with a crane. In fact, while I was there, my mom mentioned that people were very "healthy" up in there. I cannot rave enough about the food - best place to eat American breakfast in the AV, period. It's funny because I'm from the OC where the restaurants are generally health driven. I got a latte at Crazy Otto's and asked for nonfat milk and she was like, uh, no.... I was like what about sugar free syrup? She was like, nope. So I got a full fat, vanilla latte and it tastes good drinking bad every now and then!!! Let me start by saying that my low rating is specifically regarding the quality of food we received. The service was great... Breakfast is my favorite type of food. I can eat it for any meal at any time of the day. The food here is beyond disappointing. I had high hopes for this place with the reviews I read, the history behind the establishment and the pictures I had see of their food. Such a huge disappointment. My wife had the chicken fried steak and eggs. The scrambled eggs were over cooked and the chicken fried steak was really tuff. The gravy was the only good part of that plate. The meat itself was not prepared in the standard fashion. They given up this huge patty that does not look like chicken fried steak at all. In was done on the flat top rather than being fried as the name of the food states. The cook over grilled it and the patty was burnt on the outside and way over cooked on the inside. The cook tried to cover it up by adding more gravy to hide the actual meat. Fail on all levels. I had the Eggs Benedict. Another complete fail... First off hollandaise sauce should be a light pale yellow and be silky smooth. Their hollandaise sauce was banana yellow and clumpy. Most places don't serve real Canadian bacon when the serve this breakfast. Most places use a thick cut of ham. This place states it's a thick cut of ham but it came with a single layer of sandwich style cut ham. This thin little strip of ham with this clumpy hollandaise sauce, it was just horrible. Then I had also asked to make my hash browns a little crispy as I hate soggy hash browns. The cook so over cooked them that I just had to sift through it to find pieces that I could actually eat/chew. Then I was charges $3.95 for a small glass of orange juice and $2.95 for a cup of coffee. Over priced menu that they try to say it's because they give such large portions . Wrong Response!!! The portion size does not matter if the food quality is below average. Again the service was great, but the food was so horrible I can't even chalk it up to the cook having a bad day. One of the worst meals we have had. We will not be giving them a second chance . read more

If you are really hungry, and hungry for good food at bargain prices...check out Crazy Otto's. The two in my local vicinity are quite different in certain ways but the food is equally proportioned and satisfying at both places. The One on 20th is small and a bit claustrophobic so I prefer the larger, more spacious diner on Avenue I. Crazy Otto's food is well made and the portions are quite ample, you will more than likely take home some food even if you come very hungry. I love that about good diners...food for lunch the next day! Yippie ! They have a funny train on a track that circles the room at the smaller diner...at some point...I forget exactly why & when it does that, but...I'm just not much into kitch I guess. Still...this place will save the day when you are sick and tired of being ripped off at the local Dennys or IHOP. The Breakfasts are faarrr better over at Crazy Otto's, and the butter won't be rancid, like some of the joints (around here) I have tried breakfast at. Crazy Ottos does great with any meal but many love the breakfasts there, available all day. The burgers are so large I have to cut em in half to get a bite. There are also T-shirts and hats, for sale which when you wear there to eat, will get you a 20% discount anytime you wear them in the future...for everyone who is wearing something...so buy yer future discount if you love it there & plan to return often...there are coffee mugs for sale also. Okay - it doesn't look like much when you drive up, but at 7:30 on a Saturday morning, there were a number of cars already in the parking lot. That is generally a good sign. Inside it has that old-time diner/pancake house vibe - booths, license plates on the walls, menus in plastic, etc. My friend wants pancakes and bacon. The waitress asks if he wants the "Senior Portion," to which he replies, "No. I'm really hungry." His pancakes were plate-sized. He managed to eat one. Plus several strips of bacon. (Lesson learned - their portions are for big appetites!) I had hash and eggs with a pancake instead of toast. The hash was excellent and my eggs were poached perfectly. My pancake was hot, cooked through, and very tasty - even if I couldn't eat all of it. The staff was really friendly. All of the waitstaff stopped by our table at one time or another to check on us. In searching for Crazy Otto's I found two listings here on Yelp. Why don't people check to see if a place is already reviewed before adding it? I hate redundancy! ANYWHO... When my friend said that we were going here for our New Year's Day hangover breakfast, I thought he said "Crazy Otter's." I kinda wish that were actually the name. I pictured a wacky woodland-creature theme for the place, sort of like Clifton's on crack. As it turns out, I wasn't far off... The interior is all old license plates, wood beams and truckstop decor. Very rustic and yet cozy. It's no surprise the portions are huge. I mean, huge even by American super-size value meal standards. The omelets are made with 5 eggs and are roughly the size of, say, a small river otter. I had a half-order of the Popeye, which has spinach, bacon and cheese in it. A half order means 3 eggs but the same amount of fillings, so it comes out the same size but the eggs become a thin tortilla-like wrapper instead of like your usual fluffy omelet, which is kind of strange. The spinach had a weird taste to it, like it was canned or something. The best part was the hash browns, which were perfect. The individual potato shreds were buttery and firm, not all mushy and stuck together, and perfectly browned to a crunchy crust on top. The biscuits and gravy were on a par with Denny's, which is not saying much. My boyfriend got the prime rib and eggs, which turned out to be a good choice. The prime rib was succulent and flavorful, cooked to a juicy, tender degree of pink and served au jus. They only have the prime rib on weekends and holidays. I don't know that I'll be driving out to the Antelope Valley on a regular basis to go there, but if I'm ever in Lancaster after a night of heavy drinking again, I'll probably end up at Otto's. read more

I sent them my confirmation number but no that still doesn't work for them and they refuse to refund my $23 for an omelet and fries. I don't like diner food anyways, so take note of that while reading this. Apparently, this is THE place for breakfast in Lancaster. Dinner is not even served at this location. They have a pretty neat history and hold the world record for biggest pancake, or was it omelet? Yeah, omelet. Like, over a thousand square feet. And that should give you a clue to what sort of food they serve here: big-servinged, lumberjack-feeding, America-is-the-fattest-country-on-earth kind of food. It wasn't very tasty. My eggs Benedict was (were?) pretty ridiculous. And I think the Hollandaise sauce began its life as a powder from a packet. Moral of the story: if you have the sort of appetite that will eat small Japanese villages out of their food, causing a gang of samurai to arrive and chase you out of town and/or kill you, then Crazy Otto's is the place for you. My wife and I hit this place up with two kids and a crazy Italian pilot. Everyone was super hungry and one kid was about to lose it. As soon as we walked in, we got served immediately. We put in the kids' order right away so that they could stuff their faces while we talked about boring adult stuff like paint, catheters and our inevitable demise.
