Karen's kitchen is a spot that I had heard of for sometime now. My brother and I took a trip to Quarts Hill area to experience the food. The diner style interior is very well lite, clean but a bit smaller than I anticipated, they do have a good sized outdoor seating area and an ample parking lot in the back side of the building. The food, we ordered a Reuben Sandwich and a Cheeseburger. From what we had seen, the food looked great. The burger had lettuce, tomato,union, cheese, that oddly was not melted, a nice sauce, pickles and decent looking meat patty, unfortunately the last few bites of the meat patty had a funky taste, like it was a little old, hence the 3 star rating, the burger is also served with a decent amount of fries. The Reuben looked and tasted amazing, also served with a large portion of fries, one of the nice touches on this sandwich was the grilled Pastrami, this was a nice touch, its also served with sauerkraut & Swiss cheese on Rye. I do want to return to try the amazing looking breakfast options, they seem to have a huge variety of options. There's no taste to it and she gave me ketchup packets. I never put ketchup on my burrito. I prefer 3 containers of pico de gallo. The service was ok. But I will not come back here. I'm not sure if they changed the cook, but it's different. First few times there everything hit!!! So I was hungry and went there again to eat and was sorely disappointed. Service is great, place is clean, but the food was not worth the money. First, home fries were undercooked with no flavor. There were no eggs in my huevos machaca, cold tortillas and burned tasting coffee. My daughter's bacon was also undercooked. When we said something our friendly waitress took back the bacon and had them cooked all the way, gave us hash-browns and frijoles so that we could Eat something. I think she could tell that I was frustrated. I took everything to go and recooked and seasoned the food. I'm going start cooking, but it's just sad when you spend your hard earned money on something that you can make at home yourself (and it is way better). read more

My partner and I ordered the chilaquiles and unfortunately they were my least favorite chilaquiles I've had in AV so far. We ordered them with over easy eggs and the eggs were well done. The red sauce was less of a red sauce (the way enchilada sauce usually is) and more of a chunky salsa, they also were definitely heavy on the salt to mask that there was not any real flavor to it. And the chips were just so soggy, at that point I don't know if the over easy eggs would have just hurt the dish even more. Also, it said it came with cheese, and in my head I'm thinking cojita cheese or queso fresco, but no. It was just melted cheddar cheese, also no crema, no cilantro. From what I'm told the other food is good, but if you're a chilaquiles person like myself, theirs are not worth it. The hash browns were really good though. read more

We came for the first time and not only did they give us great service but they treated a gentleman in a wheelchair with the most love and kindness helping him with his straw and counting his change and every server knew his name and said good morning. So I see there is a bit of controversy with the new ownership/changes made. Me personally am very happy with the new improved Karen's kitchen. By comparison the there is better seating, and finally not a cash only option. Great menue options, have not had anything that dissapoints so far. Good portions, Friendly service overall a great experience we will be back. The only con I would note and agree with others on is the coffee cups are way too small, a couple sips and you need a refill, otherwise i have no complaints. read more

Today we passed through Quartz Hill on our way home from seeing the poppy's in bloom. We were hungry. On Google, we found Karen's Kitchen.
