Staff was nice for dudes that look like cholo ex cons. Old Dennys location, changed to look like grandma style cafe. With grandma wallpaper and ceramic chickens and pigs on tiny shelves on the walls above our booth. Very cozy feel. One obnoxious loud talking regular. Prostitutes pimps, drug dealers in the parking lot. Standard for Sierra Highway. Saw one customer come in with a prostitute. At least someone buying these working girls food. We went there because of all the great reviews of the Steak and Egg Special. The steak was ok, but I asked for medium and got well done. The gravy on the biscuits and gravy had a strange color no flavor. Tasted like flour water and a dash of pepper. Very bland. Biscuits tasted like cheep bread biscuits from Walmart. Got a Country omelette with sausage mushrooms, onions, cheese and tomatoes. It was not good, not bad, just ok. Got home fries that looked like they were run over by a truck in preparation. For the positives, the prices are good, the menu selection is awesome, the service was kind, and definatly cute decoration to give it that small diner feel. Also the salsa tasted very fresh like home made. Negatives, the food was bland, we ordered several different things so we could try a few things and none of it was great, not terrible but nothing special. The biscuits and gravy sauce is very peppery. Also keep in mind this isn't the best part of town, and a couples relationship drama outburst was very uncomfortable while we ate. There are certainly no shortage of breakfast joints along the crusty, dusty asphalt line of former US 6 through Lancaster. Maybe it's the older population living here that keeps them in business, but I'm not sure how the area can support so many diners like this. But I'm glad this one exists, because it was one of the best breakfasts I've eaten in a long time. I did not expect much and this place keeps it relatively simple. Really, when I come into these places, I expect grease and meat - just something better than the hotel - but it was all done really well here. The biscuits and gravy was good. They will give you salsa with your eggs. They have grits. The bacon was great. The service was excellent. The price was much cheaper than I expected for what I got. The crowd is older. There was a group of gentlemen at the counter, chatting about things that older men tend to chat about, then a few others sitting alone at the booths. The servers knew pretty much everyone. The food here is bomb and I love the portions. This was my first time eating there, I did order for pick up instead of eating there so I didn't get serviced. However the portions for each meal I ordered were perfect, it was very tasty and delicious. I personally ordered the corned beef hash for breakfast and a side of hot cakes. Everything was freshly made, and I'm a big fan of their pancakes - buttermilky, fresh, and delightful. Will be coming again. read more

So sitting in this old Americana spot, when you hear the train toot nearby on its journey to who-knows-where, it just takes you back to a different America and some decades back in time. Almost makes one feel a bit nostalgic. However, the food doesn't. It is what it is. Instead of the chicken fried steak with white gravy I wish I'd ordered a breakfast item. I would try the place again, but I would not be expecting much, but the prices are very reasonable so go and order the daily specials or something else that is very coffee shop-ish like a patty melt or something. The mashed potatoes come out of a box but Mr. Picky thinks they taste OK... I don't. I liked my French Fries the best of everything on the plate, nice flavor! Mr. Picky kept stealing them. I think we'll come back if we see another 25% off coupon. I am not sure how this restaurant has gotten the rating it has. My husband and I went here 10/28/2017. I had the Chicken Fried Steak, 2 eggs scrambled, Home Fries, Biscuit with Country Gravy and he had the Rib Eye with Mashed Potatoes, Corn on the Cob, Garlic Toast and a Salad with Blue Cheese Dressing. His salad was served first and the salad was your typical bagged salad, very fresh but the dressing was mayonnaise with some small pieces of blue cheese, very disappointing. Sadly this was the best part of his meal. The mashed potatoes were terrible, obviously instant and the gravy was mostly flour and water with a weird taste that was not identifiable. His steak which he ordered medium was well done and full of gristle. The corn was over cooked, mushy and served with margarine, the garlic toast was a completely flattened bottom of some kind of bun that was dry and browned with no hint of garlic. My chicken fried steak and my biscuit were smothered in a white floury 'gravy' with no hint of sausage or other flavoring. It tasted like water, milk and flour. The biscuit was dry and poorly leavened. The chicken fried steak was a bit gristly and tasted like a pre-made frozen patty. The scrambled eggs were excellent as was the salsa served on the side (make sure you strain some of the water off). The Home Fries had potatoes and onion (no peppers), and were extremely dry. They gave very large servings, the wait staff were very sweet and very slow. Our water was not refilled and we were not checked on during the meal. If we had been we would have ordered some coffee. The check was brought without comment about 1/2 way through our meal. Sadly barely mediocre, we won't be returning. read more
