I came today 07/23/2026 around 12pm my server was Noemi she was a very polite and on it kind of server didn't have no issues with anyone and honestly was very great made sure everyone was taken care of and satisfied I was that's for sure! She did have this little hiccup with a lady that came in the restaurant already very noticeably upset and with a very nasty attitude. I didn't really hear to much but I did know she was one of those people that tried to pull a "race card" basically making it seem to be what it wasn't like Noemi was just being racist that's why she was upset but clearly it wasn't that the lady was just already upset and something else and brought it with her to the restaurant! From the parking lot and through out the restaurant there are bears everywhere. They have a variety of bear items for sale. The restaurant was bright and clean. We chose the wrong day for our first visit. It was a Tuesday mid-morning (10:00am). There was no one at the register and no hostess ( we were told she didn't show). There was a couple waiting to be seated. They had entered the restaurant before we entered the parking lot. After waiting a few minutes I asked the woman how long she had been waiting. It had been ten minutes. The restaurant was not that full. It was several minutes later before someone seated the couple and a couple of minutes longer to seat us. They have a large menu with lots of options for breakfast. As we had entered the restaurant there was a large sign which advertised a Steak and egg breakfast for $12.99, Mon - Fri. The prices in comparison to Dennys were comparable. My husband ordered the 2 egg combo with Ham, potatoes, and toast for $15.39. The ham steak was thick and very large. The potatoes were abundant. He commented about the potatoes being under done and the second half of his ham was a bit fatty. I ordered the 2 egg combo with chicken fried steak with gravy, hash browns, and a biscuits for $15.99. The biscuit has real butter and honey accompanying it. The chicken fried steak was well done with the right amount of gravy. The hash browns were good. The biscuit was HUGE. It was tender but kept falling apart. Whether using my fingers or the fork it was hard to get the biscuit to the mouth. I will definitely return to try other menu items. read more

The service has really gone to s#!t at black bear, I have always had a great experience at all the locations that I have visited, I came in for lunch with a colleague and it was not that busy, we had an hour to eat lunch and get back to work. The drinks came quick the food did not I actually had to go and find my food and when I picked it up from the heat lamps I was not happy, that mind you was approximately 35 minutes after we got there. After the waitress came by to see what was wrong I basically said hey I want my check to pay for my drinks the manager came over and said they were super busy and she was sorry she comped the drinks and we headed out to go find some fast food from Sonic's. This is my experience I wouldn't recommend this locations to anyone but if u wish go and see for yourself I hope u have a better experience. read more

The waffles are delicious. It wasn't not to long ago I started ordering the waffles here. Food is good and portion size is well served. What I do get disappointed is the wait time for my order to be taken, refills and for my food to be delivered. Also on Friday, I came in for the unlimited fried fish but was told that the kitchen sold out. Upon looking around the Resturant I couldn't believe that they ran out. Was my 3rd time at this Black Bear Diner. Because I have a mixed review is the reason I give it three stars. My first and third time here I got the pictured fried steak, eggs, and side. The bad: My second time here i got hash and eggs. The hash was lackluster and small in portion size, I waited a very long time on a Sunday after noon (to be expected) but unfortunately we got lost in line. me and my girlfriend were skipped, arriving before "coupled" guests that got seated quickly and1 very large party. Couldn't have been reservations cause I watched the receptionists write names down. Soon after complaining we got seated after a short wait. It did feel busy that day, but nothing out of the ordinary for a Sunday after church. I hate writing bad reviews and I was honestly so upset writing this and this is my second time coming to this location and today was just not it. The first time I came it was amazing and today was just beyond terrible. It took over one hour to get our food, the food was not cooked how we asked for it, it came out cold! Cold and honestly my party didn't to complain but I was already upset. my pancakes were terrible they were dry and had grease you can tell they were reheated , the bacon was not cooked how I asked, the eggs were cold and the worst part, I observed plates being reheated in the microwave!!! That's was the tip of the iceberg. Honestly this was the most terrible experience I've had. I went to black bear in Tarzana on Friday and it was not how it was today, the other location did a great job and this one did not . It infuriates me that we are paying for a good fish and plates came out cold. Honestly this was just so upsetting. I understand that the kitchen can get backed up but it was not acceptable that it took an hour and the food was just terrible. Please work on your kitchen and expo times and make sure food is taken to tables promptly and not just there sitting in the heat lamp for it to go cold and dry. read more

My family and I truly enjoy coming here, whether it's after church, for a special occasion, or simply because we're in the mood for a great meal. I personally love their bread pudding! it's one of my favorites. The atmosphere is always calm and welcoming, and the waitstaff are consistently friendly and attentive. While there can sometimes be longer wait times, it's understandable given that the restaurant offers such delicious and unique meals. On occasions when the wait is around 30 minutes, we may choose to try another place that day and simply come back another time. We got the chicken avocado sandwich and a breakfast option with pancakes, eggs and chicken sausages. The only thing that was good were the pancakes out of everything. The sandwich was horrible - We got iced coffee as well in both vanilla and mocha, it was ok very watered down tasting and the mocha just tasted like hersheys syrup. I was upcharged almost $8 added to $14.99 just to sub chicken sausage (which were gross) and to add bananas and whipped cream on my pancakes - that's an outrageous up charge, there shouldn't even be one. 8/13/2025: Our first time trying Black Bear Diner. I'm so glad that we decided to check them out in spite of negative reviews we've seen, because we are pleasantly surprised! I had fasted labs done in the late morning, so hubby and I thought it would be nice to go out for a late breakfast. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the doors and seated right away. Before leaving the table, our server asked what we would like drink while we look over the menu. Very efficient! We decided to share the Big Bacon Breakfast because.. who could eat that all alone? Thank goodness we shared because when the plates came out, we were shocked! We still had leftovers to take home. The bacon was delicious, the cat head biscuit (IYKYK) with southern sausage gravy hit the spot, the hash browns were golden brown and the eggs were perfect with runny yolks! The decor inside was cute. They've remodeled the former Souplantation and made it their own!The motif is adorable but not overbearing (see what I did there? ) I'd go back, but not without someone to share a meal. Arlinda is a terrible server. She was slow to seat us, slow to bring a straw for the orange juice, slow to bring more coffee creamer. Slow to bring the toast she dropped (the replacement toast was cold). How hard is it to go to the server station and grab what the customer needs and bring it right back? Food wise, it wasn't bad for a chain restaurant. My chicken fried steak was hot. The gravy a little bland. The home fries were good. My daughter bear pancake was way smaller than what we thought. And $3.99 for a kids 6oz orange juice....ridiculous. As for the resultant itself, it's decorated nicely with lots of earth tones. You can tell that it is very Bear forward. The sever Noemi was great. It just took almost 30 minutes to get our food. The order was a wrong. Server wrote everything down so I guess the cook got it wrong. Wanted cheese inside my grits and on eggs. Nope. Hubby asked for spinach in eggs. He got a lump of spinach onto of his eggs with cheese. He didn't ask for cheese. The grits tasted weird. Not the best..the spicy sausage was DELICIOUS !! Bacon was good too. When we arrived it was barely anyone there. By the time our came, it was really crowded with large parties. Very nice and clean. Seems like this place has gone down hill. When it first opened everything was fine, my last visit with horrible. I thought it was a joke. As we are being sat the waitress says, " we dont have bacon, fries, chicken tenders" and walks off. Okay, that was random. The restaurant was damn there empty aside from about five tables but it takes our waitress over 15 minutes to greet us. We order our food and our drinks take another 15 minutes to come! I watch her serve drinks to family who just arrived while I am still waiting on a tea. Everything she provided us was DIRTY! The cups had hard food on the inside, food on the outside, the straws were delivered wet with food on it. The utensils had dried food on it. I tell her my cup is dirty and she says really and looks inside. I receive my tea and inside the cup is dirty again! Just keep it. My food finally arrives to the table, a egg scramble, and it appears to be wet. The waitress says they can cook it longer. It came back 5 minutes later looking exactly the same. I taste the eggs and they don't taste real. Perhaps powder eggs but there is a puddle of grease underneath. I ask the waitress what kind of eggs did they use to make this and she said "liquid eggs". She said they use regular eggs per request.... Wow, yeah, no, take all of this back. No thanks. Maybe its this location, but until things change. I'm out. read more

The grease on the ham and bacon had set from how cold the food was and to top of the horrible service I found two long strands of hair in my son's meal. Sunday March 16, 2025: Our Server was Brianna! I have to say that she gave the BEST customer service we have had in a long time. This young lady was amazing! The Food: Sadly the Food quality was not great, especially for the prices. Pancakes: They were bland and perhaps the flour was missing oil and a pinch of salt. They were dry and flourish. Syrup was thin and liquidity. Chicken Fried Steak: The pattie was very light compared to other's I've had. It wasn't bad at all. The gravy had a nice light flavor to it as well. Two people could share as the portion size was truly a Big Bear. Country Potatoes: They were almost perfectly except for the part where some of the potatoes were well done and crunchy inside. But they were still good. Eggs were typical...No complaints Fish and Chips: Fish was terrible. No flavor and like rubber inside. Definitely fresh out a deep freezer and the grease may have been too hot for the fish to cook properly. Very BLAND indeeded. The Fries were typical ... perhaps a little overcooked. I got broccoli instead of Slaw; it was typical. The Tarter was perhaps missing Dill and Pickle. Coffee was good. Pepsi was a little flat to taste but okay I guess. I really had high hopes for this place but sadly the only reason we would visit again was to have Brianna service us. She was truly amazing.
